Tonight we celebrated a Georgia Tech Doctoral graduate of Mechanical Engineering with a dinner at Umi and it did not disappoint! Service was on point, the classic cocktails were fabulous and the celebratory champagne was cold and sparkling! Umi has an extensive menu and can be quite overwhelming. Fortunately a friend and former employee of Umi gave us menu suggestions and I'm posting a photo on my review. We order everything she recommends and it's always wonderful! The ambiance at Umi is relaxing and lovely with low light and small table lamps. A great place to unwind after a busy work week, or enjoy a romantic or a celebratory dinner! We will return!

Umi was everything I expected and more! I came here for my birthday dinner and had the most amazing meal and will never stop raving about the hospitality! The food was absolutely delicious. For appetizers we got the tuna tataki, salmon yuzuviche, spicy tuna crispy rice, and seaweed salad. The crispy rice is a MUST. Absolutely packed with flavor and amazing texture. For mains we got the Black Cod Misoyaki, Rock shrimp tempura, spicy tuna box roll and the hurricane roll. The black cod misoyaki simply blew us away, not an exaggeration. The spicy tuna box roll was not only yummy but also beautiful!! For drinks we got the Paloma and Kyodai-- both great and strong. And since it was my birthday they brought complimentary chocolate truffles with a candle! I can't wait to come back. Parking- Umi will validate the valet and it is only $2.

Umi is absolutely an Atlanta must-try. We went for Valentine's Day and honestly couldn't even tell it was a holiday because the service was that smooth. Service was a 10/10, ambiance was solid, and shoutout to our server Patrick who really made the night. The only real downside was finding the restaurant at night, which was unnecessarily frustrating. Also, the menu is very extensive. If you're Type A or new to sushi, I highly recommend reviewing the menu ahead of time so you're not overwhelmed once you sit down. Food-wise, there were clear standouts. The Wagyu beef carpaccio was unreal. Truly one of the best things I've had and a must-order starter. The miso soup was comforting and flavorful, perfect if you're cold. Drinks were well balanced and not overly sweet, especially the lychee martini and benihime. Sushi and rolls were a mixed bag depending on personal taste. The eel avocado shrimp tempura roll was a favorite, and the American tuna roll was solid. Some nigiri textures just aren't for me yet, but my husband loved them, especially the otoro and salmon options. The baked lobster tempura wasn't bad, just not particularly memorable. Dessert was decent. The angel food cake was enjoyable, but the donut wasn't my thing since it was filled. That one comes down to preference. Overall, the quality, service, and experience make Umi worth the hype, and I can't wait to go back. Just plan ahead, know what you want to order, and let the kitchen do its thing.

I finally was able to make it to Umi. I've heard soooo many amazing things but of course had to be the judge myself. As a sushi lover I had VERY high expectations and they exceeded in every aspect. From the moment you walk in, the ambiance strikes the perfect balance between upscale and inviting dim lighting, sleek design, and an energy that feels special without being pretentious. The service is consistently top tier. Knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely passionate about the menu, the staff makes thoughtful recommendations and times each course perfectly. You never feel rushed, yet everything flows seamlessly. We started with the jalapeño yellowtail, which was bright, fresh, and perfectly balanced with just the right amount of heat. Our server recommended the Sake Aioli nigiri, which was an absolute standout. Rich yet clean and beautifully layered. The classic salmon nigiri was melt in your mouth, and the spicy tuna crispy rice delivered the perfect balance of crunch and flavor. We also tried a specialty roll recommended by the server, which did not disappoint and rounded out the sushi selections perfectly. From the hot dishes, the Lobster Toban-Yaki completely stole the show. The presentation was stunning, and the flavors were just as impressive luxurious, rich, and perfectly executed. And you can't forget the greens. We had the Brussels sprouts which were the perfect mix of tangy and crunchy, cooked just right with a light char that didn't overpower the dish. 10/10 overall I can not wait to come back!

Umi is located in Buckhead Village, and comes highly recommended. We decided to head over there and the ambiance was super nice. Parking options are the self parking deck or valet. Being a sushi fanatic, I was super excited about this place. The server was super nice and helped us pick a few items from the menu. We ended up getting the Kamikaze roll, Hurricane Roll, Saki Aioli Nigiri and Otoro Caviar Nigiri. I was super underwhelmed! I could not believe it, the sushi, the fish, the flavor & freshness was subpar. For the price and the experience, I was expecting something out of the ordinary. I will not be returning to Umi.

Umi is one of the better options for sushi in Atlanta. The location is ideal. There's a green space outside of the restaurant that is so nice in any season but winter. It's usually a bit windy. The door to Umi is unassuming and can be easily missed. When requesting a reservation ask not to be seated on the patio in winter. It can be quite chilly even though it is enclosed and it is VERY dark. The main dining area is the most desirable. By all means, let them know you do not want to sit in the area by the hostess area. It is a very busy walkway and you can feel the cold air every time the door is opened. The waitstaff is very friendly and accommodating. They are quite knowledgeable about the different sushi. They also have vegetarian options. The rock shrimp are amazing and we've never missed the opportunity to have them. Always a favorite. The edamame is ok. It's nothing special, but good for snacking on. The Brussels sprouts are phenomenal. They are spicy, sweet, and simply wonderful.

Food was delicious! We dined here while visiting from out of town and let's just say it exceeded our expectations. We had omakase but would definitely order just off the menu next time. Everything looked/is amazing. The staff were super friendly. It was recommended to us to make reservations, so we had reservations plans prior to our trip that was at least 2-3 weeks in advance.

I'm into fitness.. like fitness whole sushi in my mouth~ :P From the moment I walked in @umisushiatl, the ambiance set the tone--elegant, modern, and sophisticated, yet still warm and welcoming. Omakase by Chef @kazuosushiboss was another great Omakase experience in the books! Each course was thoughtfully curated. What stood out most was not just the impeccable quality of the fish but also the harmony of textures and flavors. Each bite had its own story, and the pacing allowed me to fully appreciate every element. The uni was my personal favorite. It was so fresh & clean. Arigato & I learned a new word to prepare me for Japan "Itadakimasu" meaning "I humbly receive." Highly recommend for sushi lovers, special occasions, or anyone wanting to indulge in a truly elevated culinary experience.

I loved my experience at Umi in Buckhead!! We tried a variety of dishes, and I highly recommend all of them! We had the spicy tuna crispy rice, yellowtail jalapeno, eel avocado and shrimp roll, lobster, and otoro nigiri. I also tried the lychee martini which was perfect, not too sweet but also not too bitter!! The service was great, our server was very sweet and quick, the interior is clean and decorated beautifully with dark, intimate lighting, and they have so many different dishes on the menu to try. I definitely will come back for more!!

The main entrance is easy to miss, but once we found our way inside, we had an excellent dining experience for our anniversary. My favorite dishes were the nigiri (sake aioli and madai - red snapper) and the tuna carpaccio starter. Everything tasted incredibly fresh. For some reason, the restaurant is very loud. It was great for an anniversary dinner, but would be terrible for a first date. The servers were very nice, and I appreciated how promptly they grabbed plates to create space at our small table. Parking is either valet or in the Buckhead Plaza deck.

Umi in Atlanta is it for top-tier sushi in Buckhead. The whole place has this dark, moody vibe with an orange backlit glow that makes everything feel sleek. Started off with the thinly sliced yellowtail jalapeño and the spicy tuna crispy rice, which were both very good. Then came the rock shrimp, which were little bites of crispy, creamy perfection. But the real standout... the scallop and the lobster. Absolutely unreal. They cut everything so beautifully that it's almost too pretty to eat... I said almost. If you're into high-quality sushi with flawless presentation, Umi is the move.

Yes, if available, so your mileage may vary. Always best to call ahead.

It took about 5 minutes for a server to greet us. At this point I was able to ask for a physical menu. Nothing was explained about the menu or the drinks, this would have added to the overall experience. As for food, we ordered the Red Samurai Roll. This was my favorite out of everything we ordered. Very refreshing but thought the tomato was unnecessary. The spicy tuna and fresh tuna complemented each other nicely and the ponzu sauce added the right amount of sweetness that was not too powerful. Very flavorful. We ordered two other rolls, the hashtags roll and the shinobi roll. Both were more on the savory side compared to the Red Samurai roll. Personally not my favorite as the sauce on the hashtags rolls was too powerful, covering up the taste of the actual sushi and the Shinobi roll tasted strange with the seared filet mignon on top. I personally did not think this complimented each other well but this could be up to personal preference! After 3 rolls between 2 people, we still didn't really feel full so ordered the Kampachi Serrano, which was lacking a lot of flavor and the frozen ponzu sauce did not add anything to the dish. The picture online looks better than the actual dish. Lastly, we ordered the Salmon toro nigiri, salmon belly. The ambiance was very nice, low lighting, good date night spot. Twice they delivered the wrong dish to our table. I would try other sushi places in Atlanta before coming back here. For the prices, the service was not up to standard with explanations and speed. Also no refills on Diet Coke and the only options for parking are a $6 valet or self parking which is also $6. They do not validate. The Red Samurai roll was really good though and definitely the standout for me of this meal.

Law of supply and demand. But given the elevation in quality of life this establishment has provided me with across the years, I feel I owe them some good marketing through a review. If there was a sushi coefficient of freshness, quality, quantity, and cost, this place wins everyday. C= (Fr*Q*q*c) Fr: 9 Q: 8 q: 10 c: 10 C(Yokohama)= 7200 Don't get me wrong - the competition is fierce for delicious sushi (Fudo, MF sushi, Nobu, all the Omakase scenarios popping up in town). What this means is the cost (c) is way too high, giving it a low 1-5 in the equation. Also, quantity (q) is low, about 4-6. So, the resulting coefficient is very low overall. From my understanding, the fish here only comes from Japan, so it's good stuff - and they really load up the rolls (a lot of the time), and they have this deal on weekend for special rolls (25% off I think). So you do get the quality, quantity, and decent price (about $12-15 per specialty roll). The regular rolls are good too, and loaded with fish. E.g. spicy salmon/tuna. The Samurai Roll was substantial and I appreciate the generosity of the roll. It was topped with salmon, and usually when rolls are topped with fish, it's usually a pretty thin slice of fish, but these slices of salmon were quite thick in my opinion. The pieces of sushi themselves are also fairly thick - it was a big bite for me to eat each piece in one. I made a reservation in advance and the staff already had my table ready even though I was a little early. The table was already dressed with menus, chopsticks, and some small plates/sauce dishes. The yellowtail was especially good, I dont always like yellowtail. All of this for only $26 I think is awesome. I will be back!

Place was pretty empty, but I've seen it busy on a Friday for happy hour. The salmon usuzukuri dish was quite good, nice subtle truffle flavor. The pickled wasabi was good too. The Karaage was pretty standard, most pieces were juicy with a couple of dryer ones. Could've had a harder fry, as they were only a little crispy. Sake to me baby roll was definitely the best roll, the smoky rich flavor of seared salmon always hits. Sadly the Natsu roll was pretty mid, it mostly tasted of fried shrimp and none of the other flavors really stood out. I wish the crab flavor had been stronger. I have felt this way about the yellow brick road roll as well. We got a small portion of hamachi carpaccio on the house because it was our first time and it was quite good! The fish quality here is nice, nothing tastes overly fishy. Unagi San was pretty good, the tempura eel was really well cooked but I wish there was more of an eel flavor. I think the biggest detractor for the sushi here is the rice. It doesn't have a very fragrant flavor the way it does at other great sushi restaurants, and the grains themselves were a bit cold instead of being closer to body temperature. If the rice was better I'd probably rate this 5 stars, especially because of how good the service we received was. I will be back for happy hour again though!

I had the gnocchi, which was their vegetarian dish, and was able to add salmon to it. It was really, really good. My partner had the burger, and everything just felt high quality, well put together, and thoughtfully prepared. Definitely not what you typically expect from airport dining. The service was wonderful too. The wait staff were knowledgeable and attentive, and the whole experience somehow made you forget you were sitting inside an airport. Even the music was great. They had some of the best '90s R&B playing, which made the whole thing even more enjoyable. Great food, great service, great music, and such a good time. Definitely the perfect exit to our Atlanta trip.

Omg... I never received a sushi menu. Bummer…read more I ordered a Chicken Cornet: cone shaped, pastry shell, epis seasoned chicken, peppers, onions Firstly, the overall presentation........ nothing about this is even conical shaped. Don't mention it then?? I will admit that the food was good, but really not what I was expecting, considering that I am at a predominately Japanese restaurant.... This entire dish was heavily influenced by Caribbean/Haitian spices. Drink was lovely, it somehow came last. I've been in Atlanta 8 years now, One Flew South is definitely gonna be one of those, "I tried it. Let's get that trash Varsity because even that would be better.

Upon sitting we were greeted, given water and told the server it was our first time. We received no explanation of the menu or dishes and were left alone for roughly 15 minutes. We finally were able to put drinks in, only after our server was rude about the type of sake my friend was trying to order. We let it slide but we waited another 30+ minutes before we were able to put in food! We had already been sitting at the table for nearly an hour. The food however, arrived promptly and was delicious. We enjoyed everything we ate. We did have to ask to receive refills on our waters and to have our plates cleared. Overall our experience felt disjointed and incredibly unorganized. If it weren't for the food being excellent this would be a one star review. Beauty full space, excellent food, abhorrent service.

Had to get some drinks of course and I am a sucker for a lychee martini which was delish. To start we got some classic edamame. We also decided to try the croissant with the mapo tofu which was essentially a spread but yum. We got the scallion pancake as well which was so good we got 2. For sushi we did the yellowtail jalapeno the wagyu and the spicy tuna. While I love the yellowtail the spicy tuna was my fave. And wagyu is always great! The negitoro was good but maybe not worth the splurge Make sure to save room for dessert because they have so many sweet treats. We of course had to another pastry and the espresso martini soft serve which was stunning!!! And then the matcha brownie for the show. They validate parking as well so overall such a great experience
