The bigger lady with the glasses and greasy hair who was at the register wasn't knowledgeable at all. Any question we asked about their oysters we were told "well I don't know". There was no initiative to help us or get the answers to our questions at all and it was like we were bothersome as paying customers. We saw that she was dismissive to the customers in front of us too. They have great products though, so it's a must visit for fresh oysters when we're in the area. This used to be my favorite place to buy oysters an and they were always very fresh. I recommended them to family and friends. Last couple times we went there we were sold oysters that were close to their pull date and had a funky taste, reminiscent of mutton. When we went in later this past spring and spoke to the woman behind the counter about it (requesting a quart of oysters with a longer pull date) she was defensive and said:"well you DID eat them, didn't you?" Yes we ate them; there was no other plan for dinner, (and I would not be a fan of oysters if they all tasted like that); but I wasn't asking for a refund, so her attitude was completely inappropriate. I'm not tempted to go back, as much as I love oysters. So sad it doesn't seem like the same place we used to love. read more

Outstanding fresh oysters. A tiny store, part of a processing plant, near the marina in Winchester Bay, Oregon. Smelly of rotting oysters, or could that be the old smelly fishermen I smell, huge piles of "oyster bones", and good honest fresh ocean air. They sell unshucked, shucked, and oyster or shrimp cocktail. A quart jar of sweet, fresh oysters will put you back about $25. A large cocktail, $5. A bargain, really. Picturesque spot, laid back attitude, no restaurant. Cash only! And plenty of camping facilities nearby. If you love to fish, this is a good place to launch. read more

Read Wendy's review from 4 years ago and it still holds true. We stopped by because we were told during a lighthouse visit that it was worth a visit. We chatted for a bit with an employee about the possibility of them setting up a few barbeque pits and selling all the accoutrements required for opening and barbequing oysters. They used to do that at Drake's Bay Oysters in Point Reyes and that place was always packed on weekends. Anyway, we asked for 1/2 dozen oysters shucked. She actually apologized that the oysters were large. Bring them on! Then she told us that they grabbed a few extra because sometimes the oysters aren't as nice as they should be but since there was no problem today, we got 9 for the price of 6 ($2 each). She also presented a basket of sauces that we could choose from to dress our oysters. YUMMMM! read more

We always plan a stop at what we call "that Winchester Oyster place" when we visit Florence. It's been disappointing the last few visits to find them closed. There's no better oysters anywhere in our opinion, not even in New Orleans! We always get a package of Pride of the West batter mix (which they sell there) and pan fry the LARGE PLUMP oysters to tasty perfection. We look forward to this gem of a business reopening after COVID. read more

Tempted to give a 3 star, but I think that would be unfair considering it's a bit of a personal preference thing. They offer 3 sizes of oysters for take-home shucking, but even their smalls I think most people would consider quite large. I'm told they sell their actual small oysters to local restaurants, but quite frankly, I'd actually pay more money for them. The quality and freshness of the oysters is unquestionable, but a lot of people have a hard time taking down a raw oyster that size. Pricing is actually very reasonable as well. We just won't be back because they don't sell small enough oysters to the public. read more

I came here for the oyster shooters while driving up and down the Oregon Coast in July 2019. While there, I saw the insane size of the jumbo oysters they had there and knew I just had to bring a dozen home. I coated the oysters in cornmeal and pan fried them in vegetable oil---delicious and fresh! The oyster shooters I had there were fresh and the tray of hot sauces they give you to go with the shooters was AWESOME. Service was friendly and very informative; the prices are great for some of the freshest oysters on the coast. I's a shame they had a fire recently and are still trying to rebuild. But once they're open again, I'm going to make a trip to Winchester Bay just to pick up some more oysters. I highly suggest you do the same :). read more

Best oysters on the coast. I put some on the bbq and some fried. Paradise. I had never done these on bbq before, but the lady at their store suggested I try. Next time I will do more on bbq and avoid the mess of frying. Of course having a big green egg helped. read more

Found this place while visiting the lighthouse and shore (thanks yelp!). We were hoping to get plenty of oysters on the half shell, but they ran out of the "small" so the woman said we couldn't get any on the half shell. They only had the bigger sizes. You can watch the guys through the glass cleaning and packing oysters. She said we could buy oysters by the pint "which is the same." I don't think she eats oysters, because they are definitely not the same. Oysters on the half shell are freshly open and cut, whereas the oysters in the pint were cut some time ago and should not be eaten raw due to increased risk of getting sick and will taste fishy. We were already there and very hungry so we bought a pint and a chilled cooked Dungeness crab. We also had to buy a jar of horseradish, because they don't serve any sides. However, she was nice to give us two big lemons. We sat at the one picnic table right outside of the place. As stated previously, oysters in the pint should NOT be eaten raw. Tasted bad. They are meant only for cooking at that point. I was so disappointed to be so close to fresh oysters and not being able to have them how they should be enjoyed. The Dungeness crab on the other hand was delicious! So sweet and tasty, it did not need any lemon or sauce at all. We actually ended up buying two more haha. The crabs were about $21 each which is reasonable. read more

Best I've ever had! We BBQ them. Got the medium size and they were huge! Perfect for BBQ and the flavor and texture was awesome. Any bad reviews were people that don't know how to cook so shame on them. read more
