Outstanding fresh oysters. A tiny store, part of a processing plant, near the marina in Winchester Bay, Oregon. Smelly of rotting oysters, or could that be the old smelly fishermen I smell, huge piles of "oyster bones", and good honest fresh ocean air. They sell unshucked, shucked, and oyster or shrimp cocktail. A quart jar of sweet, fresh oysters will put you back about $25. A large cocktail, $5. A bargain, really. Picturesque spot, laid back attitude, no restaurant. Cash only! And plenty of camping facilities nearby. If you love to fish, this is a good place to launch.

Read Wendy's review from 4 years ago and it still holds true. We stopped by because we were told during a lighthouse visit that it was worth a visit. We chatted for a bit with an employee about the possibility of them setting up a few barbeque pits and selling all the accoutrements required for opening and barbequing oysters. They used to do that at Drake's Bay Oysters in Point Reyes and that place was always packed on weekends. Anyway, we asked for 1/2 dozen oysters shucked. She actually apologized that the oysters were large. Bring them on! Then she told us that they grabbed a few extra because sometimes the oysters aren't as nice as they should be but since there was no problem today, we got 9 for the price of 6 ($2 each). She also presented a basket of sauces that we could choose from to dress our oysters. YUMMMM!

Not greasy and not dried out. Just enough for the 3 of us to get our taste buds going. The elk burger was so tasty and juicy with a flavor that left us craving more. Medium rare with added avocado was the perfect mix. The burger was not so filling that you got the after burger taste and wouldn't have room for anything else. The Marionberry Crisp topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream was enough for us to share at the end as well. Headed up perfectly and delicious! The service was great and the wait time was not long to get a table. Outdoor seating is also available and the inside keeps it nice and cozy for small parties or the occasional big family feasts. We'll definitely stop back here again!

Want some weird crusty stuff on top of your clam chowder that makes it hard to eat the clam chowder? Yuppers, they do that too and you get no crackers, which I love to crumble into clam chowder. Fries and garlic bread? Nothing special here either folks. That friend had a half pound burger and found it decent so 2 stars instead of 1 star. Much better seafood can be found on the Oregon coast.

Finally, with friends visiting from Washington, we made a special trip up to Reedsport, just to try it out. Best dining experience for a long time, for each of us! We called in for reservations, and the host nabbed us a table by the window, with an incredible view out across the bay. Upon arrival, Ron greeted us like we were family, and promptly offered us a tour of this very unique facility. The remains of a retired Coast Guard cutter, the entry way brings you into what looks to be a steel galleyway. Portholes peek through to the bar area and dining rooms. Up top, guests can reserve a private dining room, built from the original Bridge Cabin of the ship! Ron's original artwork adorned the walls of the place, and were quite unique - definitely adds to the decor. We sat down with the menu, and were pleased with the excellent variety of items available. We started off with the Clams Portuguese appetizer, and all LOVED it! In my opinion, it could have included a few more wheels of the Linguica, but the flavor was perfect. The drinks menu was very inviting, but considering that we were all extending our Dry January tradition, opted to try them on another visit. For our main course, my partner ordered the Beef Stroganoff. Being an aficionado of this dish, and having her own special recipe herself, she really loved how the flavors blended. Our guests ordered the Spaghetti di Frutti di Mare, and the Shrimp Louis salad. Both were delicious! I requested the Huckleberry-glazed Salmon, and was delighted with the consistency. The turmeric rice side dish was fantastic as well. Our favorite item was the Flowerpot Bread - a dense, two-toned baked roll, with a crusty shell. Very nice for wiping out all the delicious sauce residue from our meals. The parking was just a minor challenge; it is shared with the restaurant next door, so we ended up parking in what seemed to be boat trailer spots. Fortunately, there were no boats coming or going that evening, but it could be dicey during salmon season. We will definitely be back soon, however, to try out some of the other excellent-looking menu items!

Last night we celebrated our 45th anniversary and sat in the main dining room, which is very pleasant. We had the most wonderful waiter; he and the owner seem to work together seamlessly to make your drinks and take care of your every need. We started with the Crispy Brussels Sprouts which was an appetizer I remembered fondly from a previous visit. I'm usually not a fan of that vegetable, but I would order them time and again! I chose the Kismet Tips which was delicious, and my husband had the Petite Beef Tenderloin Steak with Mushrooms and his was done to perfection. Sides of vegetables and mashed potatoes were good too. We shared New York Cheesecake with fresh strawberries for dessert. It was made fresh in house by the owner and it was a lovely ending to our meal. I'm an experienced home baker and cook so I will admit, I'm sometimes hard to please; no worries at Kismet. The food is excellent from start to finish, and the service impeccable. We live in Florence, but we will certainly be back and we'll likely bring family when they come to visit. This restaurant is such a gem, and not to be missed.
