But, no, a nice little small town diner. Nothing fancy, but comfy and clean. Lots of breakfast items, but I was too late for them. The special was shepherd's pie, which I love, so easy choice there. For lunch there are also sandwiches and salads. The shepherd's pie was like homemade, though it was less solid than some. Not a slice of a casserole, more a couple of scoops. Potatoes, sausage, cheese... Great comfort food, hot and filling and a little peppery. Sided with old-school slightly overcooked green beans, and a fresh salad (with real tomatoes, as in, probably from someone's garden.) Service was great and friendly. Prices are reasonable. It's a bit out of the way for me, but there seemed to be regulars and I hope more locals come in. For $9 for a full meal, compared to the same amount for crappy fast food, it's a deal. The name appears to be Cafe 559 now, at least on the menu and signs. There is a bar next door, so I'm guessing the restaurant closes when the bar opens? Cash only. There is a cellphone dead zone around the town, at least for Verizon, so once I got close I couldn't even use GPS. It's near the main corner.

The hamburger bun is a little thicker than most burger joints. The onion rings were very good, fried perfectly and not overtly greasy. The onion rings come with your choice of sauce. I chose Culver's signature sauce which is a white sauce, mildly spicy, and has a pickle taste in my opinion. I highly recommend. I don't remember feeling pushed to order sauce the previous time,and I don't use much dip or sauce with my meals. But other fast-food restaurants automatically include dip/sauce with certain items like onion rings, so that is why I asked about a different sauce than the cashier was pushing- for my onion rings. But because of the extra cost, I chose not to order any sauce. It probably wouldn't have bothered me as much if I hadn't noticed how the cashier girl kept pushing the boom boom sauce to every single person in our party, but without mentioning the extra fee. With budgets getting tighter & tighter, we're having to be more careful with our money. Thirty-five cents (or more) may not seem like much, but If everyone in the family orders 1-2 sauces, it can (and has in the past) add several dollars to your bill that you weren't expecting. We've been eating out a LOT because of a renovation we're working on. We've eaten at this Culver's quite a few times and until yesterday, all the cashiers have been pleasant, helpful & cheerful. I can't say yesterday's cashier wasn't pleasant, but it felt forced. Like she wasn't truly a pleasant cheerful person or really didn't want to be there. Most other cashiers in the past have been extremely friendly & helpful & seem genuine. Anyway, between the extra, hidden costs of sauces for your meal, the overall cost of eating out (anywhere; not just here) and looking at the ingredients lists online and (not surprisingly) finding MANY MANY food products containing and/or being fried in soybean and canola oils, we will be making eating out a rare thing ASAP- for out budget and our health! But the food does taste good. And I was pleasantly surprised to see ACTUAL BUTTER. Butter in the buns and if you get a butter packet, it's actually butter- not margarine or a blend with crappy oils. So that's a positive.

I LOVE Uncle Beth's! We live down the road, so it's been our favorite go-to since it opened. Beth is an absolute sweetheart who greets everyone personally and makes you feel immediately at home. The rest of the staff is always welcoming and I have yet to leave disappointed. I know so many people who drive hours to get their brisket on Saturday. They recently renovated and added an extension, which helps because business has been BOOMING lately. I couldn't pick a favorite food because it's all so good, but I'm a sucker for any of their desserts, which are homemade and change daily. I can't brag enough about this gem of a restaurant, but I'm very proud to have it as a part of our little community. I highly recommend you try it, you won't be disappointed. read more

This place was in a rural setting, a rustic building, that appears to be a log cabin. Excellent smoked meats here. I enjoyed the fantastic smoked brisket and tasty cheesy biscuits. The ordering is done at the counter, where you pay, and then find a seat, seems to fill up fast. We left about 4:30 and the line was out the door. read more

I ordered the Brisket Sandwich with Macaroni and cheese, smoked cabbage and baked beans. The Macaroni and cheese was a creamy cheese version that was really good. The baked beans had a really good smooth taste to them. Good stuff. One of the stars was the smoked cabbage, this definitely a must if you're ordering from them. I could have ordered several of these. Delicious!! On to the star of the show. The Brisket, OMG!!! This has to be in top echelon of Briskets I've ever had. It was super moist with a nice tasty pepper crust. It was phenomenal all by itself but you do have some bbq sauce included to add a little more flavor IF you want. Mike is use 3 different smokers for different options for making his products. He is using cherry, maple and hickory for smoking his products.
