March 2026. We help a group social at JP's at Bolton field. We had a large private meeting space that could easily have seated twice our group of 30 men. We had a buffet that included BBQ chicken, pulled pork and ribs. Sides included potatos, Macaroni salad and more. Everything was served hot and on time. The quality and taste were very good. The owner herself came in multiple times to care for us. She was wonderful and truly demonstrated kindness and caring. Price was a bargain and we plan to make this a regular meeting place. read more

A friend of mine suggested JP's for lunch. We went there and got a wide range of items. The one thing that can't be denied is you get a good amount of food for the price. I got the full rack of ribs with the fries and baked beans. The sauce they put on the ribs was not bad. I tried their spicier bbq sauce, but, it was very runny and not my favorite. The ribs themselves were not the best I have ever had, but for the price, I enjoyed them greatly. My friend got the ribs and quarter chicken. I wish I had as well. The chicken looked amazing and rather juicy. That will be what I get my next trip. The only thing that friends were somewhat disappointed by was the au gratin potatoes. They stated it was like a potato salad more than true au gratin. As for the setting, it is quite nice. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The indoor is very interesting and looks like it hasn't been touched since they opened the place. The outside is not far from the airfield. This was nice because we got to watch small planes taking off and landing while dinning. Overall, JP's was a pleasant experience and I will definitely be going back. read more

A gem of a restaurant. I would show a photo of my salad with chicken but I ate it too fast. Friendly employees, especially after they get to know you. There are tables with umbrellas laces outside so you can eat and be able to watch planes along the airstrip. read more

I enjoy flying it to try different airport restaurants and this is one of the best and some of the best BBQ pulled pork I have had. It was served on a sub bun and had the perfect amount of BBQ sauce. I ordered with a side of applesauce which was amazing... I not only ate all mine, but bought a pint to bring home. Yes the applesauce is that good. In hind site I should have brought home some of their BBQ as well, but since I plan to come back again many times, I don't think that will be an issue. Now I know I have to start working out with food like this not far away. If you live close and haven't tried this place, you don't have to be a pilot, you don't have to fly in. I hadn't had JP's for years, and was reluctant to try them again after seeing the reviews. Last time I went was 10-15 years ago at the east side location (which I guess is closing soon.) I also had it at a wedding reception about 20 years ago. I remember it as being above average. This time, I was kinda close to the Bolton Field location so I swung by. Hey, an airport? I can watch planes! Well, except it was pretty dead that day. This really ought to be two different reviews, for JP's as a BBQ joint and as an airport cafe. As BBQ, it was decent. I'd waffle between 2 and 3 stars. I've definitely had better, but it wasn't crap. I had a half rack dinner. The ribs were meaty and had decent flavor, though not much smoke. The sauce was, well, sauce. Nothing stood out about it. I tried the regular and spicy. Meh. They came with a good roll, average baked beans, and very good onion rings. Pop in a bottle. As an airport cafe, it is a solid 3, almost 4 stars. Nothing fancy, but decorated with aviation items- and not in a "grab something with a plane on it" way, but an organic collection of mainly local items. Pix and shirts from solos, posters, models, etc. A decent range of menu items, at reasonable prices. A view of the ramp. Very good service. I might be back just for the airport atmosphere. Hours are limited, bathrooms are in the ops building next door, there's a patio and a party house. read more

Stopped here after hiking at Darby Creek. I was hoping for more. The beef ribs were OK. But the sides seemed to have come straight out of a can. Beer is limited to Budweiser products. City BBQ is a better option for the food. But sitting at the airport and watching planes land and take off is interesting! read more

My first Cross Country Solo lead me to JP's BBQ. I had no idea it was here, and apparently my CFI who knows of my BBQ love sent me here as a surprise (thanks justin!) The restaurant itself is right next to the terminal and has a large playground attached. It's a small room, probably seats around 20-25 and I was the only one there. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The menu is decent, lots of different BBQ options, yet surprisingly, no brisket. I opted for the 1/2 rack of ribs with the cole slaw and beans. I figured it was a solo flight, so the beans wouldn't mind. The rib's were a tad chewy, and weren't fall off the bone. They were decent, but not the type of dry ribs I typically prefer. The cole slaw was OK, but nothing to write home about. Overall, it's an OK restaurant, and definitely a good destination for a $100 Hamburger. It's just not the best BBQ in Ohio (That's BBQ Revue in Cincy). read more

On a whim, I decided to try out JP's on a beautiful afternoon. JP's is located at Bolton Field Airport. When you pull in and park, you'll walk to the backside of building-- There should be some signage to guide your way. The inside is just a couple rows of tables with a lot of airplanes and aviation decor. There's also random photos on the wall, which shows this place is definitely a family run and owned establishment. The staff here is extremely friendly, which is a plus. It was a little disappointing we were on the only people really here, but this place I imagine is more popular with folks flying in, than to be first on the top of your mental listing of available food choices in the area. The food was average. The ribs indeed did not "Fall off the bone" as so many like to judge their ribs. The meat was slightly tough not hard, but not enough to ruin the entire meal. We also order the quarter chicken, which was pretty tasty. I will say, I was pretty disappointed that they were a 1 sauce shop. I typically prefer a hot variety of sauce, but what they supplied was texas pete. With the BBQ arena growing-- I didn't see much innovation with this tiny hole in the wall. I can see they are heavily focused on group events and catering. My experience personally was not awful here, but I can see why others may feel let down. For the area, it hits the spot, but for those traveling miles and miles looking for BBQ amazement, you may want to lower you expectations just a tad. I still left with a full stomach. Would I return? Went here for a special event last night. Had half chicken...so tough and dry we could not eat it. What a disappointment as well as very overpriced. My friend had a chicken sandwich...all bread and a tiny piece of very tasteless very dry chicken. Would not waste my time giving them a second chance. read more

JP's provided a great venue for a flying event this past weekend. Really good, FLY-IN eating and convention locations are extremely rare. JP's checks all the boxes. I had the ribs. They were tender, meaty and plentiful for lunch. I prefer a sweeter sauce, but that's me. Awesome place for big groups. Carol and the rest of the crew do a great job of making you feel welcome and providing great food. We took 20 golfers there last night for an end of the year feedbag and JP's delivered. Ice cold beer and great ribs and chicken. Wings were good too. Asked if they had a cupcake or something we could put a candle in for an impromptu birthday celebration and they provided sliced cake for everyone! Great place and great people. read more

We went for their Valentine's Day event. We paid almost $100 for two people. It was a buffet style - ribs, pulled pork, cakes etc. DJ that played all super old music. The one time he played music from this time, it was cut off immediately like it was an accent. The host was cool and friendly - but it was more older people (40-70) then young (20-30) I guess we were a little disappointed since we saw the flyer and it looked like it was gonna be lit. We almost $100 to still pay the photographer $25 for our photo and pay for our drinks. "Fancy beer" white claw was $6. White claw isn't fancy beer. We ended up leaving with $70 tab on top of the $100 tickets we purchased. Smh not worth it. I'm in that case next valentines we'll just go to a fancy restaurant and pay $170 to get more out of things. read more

Worst barbecue of my life. I tried to like it, but it was so overcooked and mushy with little flavor. This was one of the worst meals I've eaten in years. I didn't eat much of it. Seems like a cool location, but wish they'd pay attention to the barbecue. read more

Ah, where should I start? The people were nice, the BBQ was so-so. It wasn't falling off the bone like so many other places. The sauce was okay. It was cheap enough. A half rack of ribs with two sides only cost me $9.95. Considering the drive out there and the quality, that was probably more than it was worth. I got two sides. One was au gratin potatoes like none that I have ever had before. They looked like potatoes in orange soup. The other side was cole slaw. They purchase their cold side dishes and this tasted like it. I have been going here for years, and yet to be dissatisfied once. The sauce reminds me of Arby sauce, but JPs is better. They arent the best BBQ place in town, but for the price they can't be beat! They are good and the recipes have been the same since they opened years ago. They serve pork ribs so don't expect beef ribs here. They are hardly ever packed. They offer catering, and Valentines Day specials which I might add is awesome. I attended the V Day special a few years ago and it was fun and filling. Offering plane rides and an all you can eat buffet. Definetly worth the visit and money. read more

BB Q sauce is outstanding. The rib quality is kinda hit or miss. Sometimes the meat is fall off the bone and sometimes not. Would have been 5 star if meat quality was always falloff the bone. the staff seems a little occupied with other tasks which is sometime questionable when we are the only table in the place. We sampled most of what they had. If you like good bbq, this place will just make you angry. It sucks. Nothing tastes smoked. Their pulled pork comes already sauced like your mom used to make in the crock pot...except mom's was probably better. The menu says they make it with wine and spice and serve it on a hoagie bun with lettuce and onion. It may actually be pork, but it doesn't taste or look like bbq. The ribs have potential in flavor but are tough and a little pricey ($25 for dinner) for a place where the duck tape plane is hanging from the ceiling using apple earbuds (no joke). The chicken breast was thinner than the scalloped potatoes and had italian dressing dumped on it. I really hate to be harsh, maybe picturing owners who like owning the place and like making food, but they need to stop taking people's hard earned money, ignore the in-person positive comments that are just mere flattery and get passionate about bbq or food in general again, because its obvious no one care about it now. read more

Fun little hole in the wall. Food was good, not great. We plan to get the pork next time. The experience with our kids was wonderful. The staff was super friendly and want nothing but to make sure you are taken care of. They also have a great party room that will hold maybe 100 or more guests. They also had an old little FREE putt putt course that the kids loved. The kids enjoyed seeing a few small planes as well. We will definitely go back. read more

Overall a good barbecue place. Columbus is not exactly the city to find seriously good barbecue, so I can't be too hard on JP's. It's worth getting at least once in a blue moon. read more

Just wanted to say I have been going to JP's for over 40 years! I have followed them to Bolton field location and it's always worth the drive! I have attended the Valentines Day Party for the last ten years ...not only a great valve but it's lots of fun ... a great mix of people young and old ! And the fantastic food and deserts just keep coming! So during this time I saw a post from JP's thanking everyone through the years... so I decided to get take out ... once my friends heard I was going to JP's ... they all ordered as well! Carol who is the owner was as friendly as can be as always! She helped navigate the menu, and what heated well! I have to say not only was the food spot on ... all the orders were correct and packaged for reheat! Her recommendations were spot on! My belly is full and satisfied! Well, THAT was an experience. Pretty sure the sauce came from a jar. But worse was even though they weren't busy (only ONE other table had people) - tables were dirty and we had to wait for a seat - unless we wanted to ask the one other table of people to move, so some of us could get behind the loooong row of tables/chairs lined up (or, I suppose, sit in a line, beside each other). Only 4? tables had "table cloths," and all of them were the cheapo plastic (which is understandable considering what you're there to eat) but they were worn out. I happen to know that Meijer is selling cheapo plastic table cloths for $2.99 each. $12 would go a long way, JP! Then the staff person acted like she was doing us a favor cleaning off a table (wiping all the food from the prior guests onto the floor with a big towel, leaving the table sticky and certainly not clean) and taking our orders. One of us had noticed the price discrepancies in the prices of the sides, and she said she didn't know why there were price discrepancies. (crickets....) Our meals came and there were two rolls placed on top of the meals and they were obviously not freshly made, not warm, just bleh. The sides were a JOKE. They came in these tiny little cups & approximated 2 tablespoons full. It didn't matter though, because they were absolutely TERRIBLE. The baked beans were indeed not baked, and had the same jarred sauce as the ribs. The potatoes au gratin were cooked beyond recognition and I doubt made that day, and I certainly doubt made from scratch. We had no silverware, had to ask for that. We all got one napkin each. At a BBQ restaurant??? No wipes. We asked for more, didn't get them, so one of us "stole" some from one of the loooong row of tables/chairs. No one asked if we needed more drinks or if we wanted anything else, if we were happy with our meals, nothing. The one good thing I can say, is that the ribs were tender and not overcooked and were pretty good, considering the "typical" tasting sauce. For three people, for what I just described, it was $64. SIXTY FOUR DOLLARS !!!! Stay home, folks. It's such a shame too, because the restaurant is at a small airport and not in an area over-populated with restaurants ... the atmosphere COULD be really cool, the food COULD be really good, and the place COULD be packed with hungry, appreciative guests with people standing in line to get in the door. JP (assuming there even IS a JP) and at least the one staff member appear to JUST NOT CARE. It's a real shame. read more

I had read that JPs was one of the best BBQ restaurants in the state of Ohio. I found the sauce to be good and the Pulled Pork sandwich to be enjoyable but not exceptional. I enjoyed that it was located on the field at Bolton Field in Columbus so flying in for the meal made it more fun. It is a good place to go for sure if you are an aviation enthusiast. Though, be sure to have some wetnaps so the inside of your plane is not a mess afterwards. read more

Well the Mothers Day Buffet.... we were a party of 4 First off we were told we had to share a table with strangers, ah no...Then we were roasted by the heaters, but they finally turned them off. We went to the appetizer table first what a mess... drippy chocolate sauce with strawberry chopped up???? The hot meal those potatoes were terrible! Frozen green beans,the chicken well enormous legs that were frozen tasted like sugar gravy, the frozen meatballs with salty gravy and the rolls were a hit! Pulled pork was ok the men liked it they were looking for buns!! Ok the ribs they had been frozen and you could taste it they were bought cheap and cooked the week before and froze then heated with cheap bland bbq sauce. 2 stars were for dessert and the can pop! Attended an event here and was very underwhelmed. Food was not very good at all. BBQ chicken was dry and the ribs were terrible. Couldn't even cut the meat off the bone the ribs were so tough. Is there a smoker on site? Didn't taste like the meat was smoked. A must for great barbeque! Side dishes were boring and the rolls were not good. Basically if you want to eat inside a glorified garage, this is the place for you. read more
