I believe that Uncle Dave's car repair to be the worst in Shelby County. They so called repaired my friend Jeep Cherokee last year and paid over 2000 to replace the radiator and it is still leaking antifreeze and overheating. My car got towed after an accident and the woman with brown hair and glasses that was helping had a terrible attitude and was clearly just trying to make my day harder. I had been taking a car there since Oct. 2023. The strike slowed things for several weeks to get two motor mounts delivered. Repairs continued for several leaks. A deal was made with the owner, Dave, for a vehilce he had purchased at an auction. We set a day to finalize. I went he no showed was left two messages with his staff. He never called and left a message of apology or explination. Just thoroughly disgusted. I had already had an offer on my car just 30 minutes Fter listing it. After I placed my call to road side service, Evan from Uncle Dave's arrived to assess the problem and help me out. When I checked my paperwork, I realized I got exactly 5 years and 2 months off that battery. When Evan's diagnostics showed the battery was DOA, I was wondering what my next move would be. I am new to the area and don't have a mechanic. How delighted I was to hear that he had the battery my Jetta TDI needed on his truck. With aplomb and professionalism Evan replaced the battery. Had some done on my car there a couple of times and service was good. But I went there to inquire about some vehiles they were selling and found a real nice one I wanted to buy. They were working on it as I was looking at it and told me it would be ready the next day. I called the next day and it still wasnt ready and they said it would be ready the next day. I call the next day and it was ready and when I get there they sold it to the same guy who was working on as I was looking at it before and tood me they thought I was looking at a different car. The same guy that bought was right there working on it as I was looking at it and tried to pawn of some other car on me while playing dumb. I dont care that he bought it but I really wish they would of been straight up with me and not wasted my time going over there for nothing after 2 days of waiting around for it. My daughter had an accident and Mr. Personality showed up to tow it. (The police called them - NOT ME!) He rudely informed me that I would need to pay him $150 in cash before the vehicle could be towed. He told me I could go to the ATM while he was hooking up the car. HELLO! We were in the middle of a 6 lane road with HEAVY traffic all around. Why not follow me to the ATM to get us BOTH out of harms way. This would have sped up the process which would allow him to get our job done and move on to the next one. OR... better yet, how about accepting credit cards.. HELLO! this is 2021. Why not get a cube for your iPhone and move into the 20th century. read more

The battery of our old car died & we knew this also old battery had to be replaced. We live in Fayette County. I was ambivalent about 2 things: giving the car a battery jump from our other car & attempting to drive all the way to Uncle Dave's to buy a new battery. What if the battery died again en route? I also did not want to use 1 of our annual AAA service calls just for a battery. Uncle Dave's resolved these concerns by bringing us a new AAA battery w/o AAA service involvement if we paid $55 for the trip charge ourselves. We were given the new AAA battery promptly & all seems fine. It helped to give someone the VIN # to check &make sure it was the right battery. They did what they said they would do. read more

I know of the folks there to be reliable and trustworthy, and they treat customers with fairness and honesty. They know their customers on a first name and personal basis. If I could give negative stars, I would. I waited 5 hours to get my car towed! In addition, after Joshua, the tow truck driver, towed my truck to dealership, he called me to tell me that I owed him money. It was news to me that I owed anything with AAA. But, he said I owed him $30 bc he drove 5 miles past the 5 miles AAA allows. I looked on the map and i told him it wasn't that far and he was overcharging me (and he was). Joshua told me if I didn't pay it, he would impound my car. Can't overstate how horrible this company is! read more

If I could give a zero I would. I contacted AAA for a tow at 9:15 p.m. They gave me an estimate of 3 hours but said the tow company would give me the accurate time. The dispatcher from Uncle Dave's Towing called me at 9:42 stating that the driver would call me when he was on the way. At 10:55 I call the dispatcher and she informs me that it will be 280 minutes because they only have one truck. So why did you accept the call??? Unacceptable. A single woman In the middle of nowhere at 11:30 p.m. trying to get towed since 9:15. No thanks Uncle Dave's. Shame on you AAA for accepting that time lapse and poor service. read more

Would not recommend !! Shady business!!!! Will say something is wrong just to bill you!! I didn't let them work on my car after they said my CV axles were broke and leaking because I didn't have $800 for them to fix it. I spent so much money on towing and Uber rides while it was in their inspection. And I had to pay a diagnostic test!!! Worst excuse of a place I have been to. My brother got into a wreck a few days ago and his car was totaled and was towed to this place. We are from Charlotte NC and were visiting family so on our way back we tried to stop and get a few of his things out of the car and the receptionist/secretary refused to work with us because the car was listed in our father's name instead of his (same last name so pretty obvious). We offered to put him on the phone and she refused and then yelled at us to leave once my brother got a little frustrated with her. He has a few things that he needs for work back in Charlotte, yet she just refused to even work with us. I advise, if it's in your control, never use this place. read more

They misdiagnosed my car and then charged me $100 for just the diagnosis and I spent $400 on parts and labor off of what they told me and it was something completely different. The money i spent there was already ridiculous, I have never had anybody charge for a diagnosis. On top of all this my car belonged to my late father so not only did they ruin my car but a precious heirloom passed down to me from someone i will never see again. read more

I had a flat tire with no jack, so I had to call AAA for assistance. Uncle Dave's was the responding service provider. My issue is with the service I received. The first responder did not have the equipment needed to change my tire. He called a second employee to tow my car. The second employee scraped my bumper while loading and unloading my car. When I tried to get it resolved through AAA, Uncle Dave's denied everything, despite the fact that the first responding employee had let the owner know that my call had not been handled correctly. I never received a call from him. I gave them two stars instead of one because the first employee did drive by my house to make sure I was okay. He helped me as I was finally changing my tire by myself after getting home and getting a jack to do the job. I was completely unimpressed. read more

I had an inkling coming out the door having been told in a dire tone that my AC compressor was kaput---not holding pressure and circulating apparently disintegrative metal frags throughout the cooling system as it all cheerily imploded---that the mechanic's grave "diagnosis" should be challenged elsewhere. It was---and found utterly without basis. My AC system proved quite fine, albeit a can of coolant low after five years without any topping off. Nothing was awry and it's been ice cold now for weeks beyond its being pronounced comatose unto death. I would have shelled out $1500 to have the full system replaced. I'm retired and on a fixed income. The confronted shop owner chalked it up to a "one in a hundred" miss on diagnosis. Got my "diagnostic" fee refunded. Maybe when you visit Uncle with an automotive issue you'll be one of the "lucky" other 99. read more

I was getting into my car after a long day's work and saw I had left my lights on and my battery had died! I setup a service call through AAA and Calvin from Uncle Dave's showed up within 30 min. He was very courteous and professional. He hooked my car up and determined that I just needed a charge! He told what to do and that everything was going to be OK! I used AAA for towing service, and Ty picked me up. AAA operator said it would be less than 55 minutes, which was disappointing considering it was 32 degrees outside. However, it only took 15 minutes for Ty to get there. He even got out and asked what was going on and wrong with the car, popped the hood and gave his advice on what the problem may be. Then he made sure the temperature inside the tow truck was fine for me. He was great and I would definitely recommend Uncle Dave's Auto Repair for any towing service. read more

I called AAA today. I sat on the side of I-240 for 3 hrs and 40 min before an Uncle Dave's wrecker showed up. This is totally unacceptable. I had to call AAA back and call Uncle Daves before I got any traction on my car. The girl answering the phones at Uncle Daves was not pleasant. I only gave them one star because the driver was very nice and a hard worker. He deserves a raise. Uncle Daves needs to either step up and add more trucks or give up the AAA contract. I called AAA last year from almost the same spot where I had a flat and a wrecker showed up in 30 min...not Uncle Daves by-the-way. Again, hats off to the driver....not Uncle Daves or AAA. read more

So incredibly upset with their towing. One of their drivers almost wrecked into my car and pushed me on the other side of the road. Thank god there was no oncoming traffic. I honked my horn multiple times to try and get their attention and I could just see the driver smiling in his rear view mirror. Disgusted. I could have been severely injured and I'm shaken. He gave me a thumbs up when I finally caught up to him through traffic. I can't believe how they are allowing their business to run. Hopefully the driver will see this and realize how he's putting others safety at risk. read more
