It was a weekday and not too crowded, so I had the chance to speak to the owner and hear the background story of the store. I'm so glad I stopped and am now officially converted from Obcos. I liked the jersey devil the best (chocolate and spice). The others were fabulous too. You can almost create any donut flavor combination you would like with the varied monthly donut selection ingredients.I am more of a purist with going mostly for the plain with chocolate icing and the cinnamon sugar this donut brought me back to my childhood of waking up early on the weekend and stopping at a certain donut shop on fisher blvd (before the new owners or new recipe) and getting chocolate frosted donuts and cinnamon sugar donuts and making into island beach state park just as the sun was coming up! These are some of the best donuts I've had in my life - and to top it off, everyone who works there is friendly, easy going, and fun to talk to. Parking isn't ideal but more than enough; there's a small lot behind the shop, and a couple metered spots in front. Across the street is the Public Parking Garage. Get the maple bacon donut! Now for the "product" and oh what a product! I got a box of 9 (one of each flavor) on orders from my fiancé which has yet to be cracked open. I did grab an extra 3 for my long day sitting in an ambulance. That was an hour ago and they are gone... First bite of the Cereal Killer donut I exclaimed I was content enough to die. Second was the Beach Sand donut and I exclaimed a few grotesque vulgarities in joy, which my partner promptly posted to Facebook. Lastly, but certainly not leastly, was The Bart donut. Frosted with chocolate and covered in crumbled butterfingers, I didn't say a single word. I simply enjoyed the deliciousness it possessed. We recently visited Toms River for a week. We heard so many good things about Uncle Dood's that we decided to check them out on our last day. We bought a couple dozen to take along with us to give to friends we were visiting north of Newark. It was a 1.5 hour trip and after only 20 minutes we'd eaten a half dozen of the donuts ourselves! We had to stop the car and lock the donuts in the trunk so there would be some left. That's how good these donuts are. It's almost impossible to describe the rich, creamy, delicious texture that makes Uncle Doods different from any other donut you've ever tasted. Our friends couldn't believe how great the donuts tasted and were fighting over them on our way out the door for dinner. I had to threaten to lock the donuts in the trunk again . We've only been home for two weeks and our friends already made a 3 hour round trip to buy donuts. Thank goodness we didn't discover Uncle Dood's until our last day or I might have had to buy two seats for the plane trip home. Donuts were really good wish I could say the same for the service, I drove back from NY to get a box to share with some friends and waited on line on Sunday a little before 12:30. There were only 2 people ahead of me. I guess one of the customers ordered 4 dozen and I was told by the staff they were closing in a half hour and they were sold out.
