We were passing thru Toms River and stopped at Dood's for coffee and donuts. They are great! Everything there is made to order and there's a terrific selection. My wife had a maple glazed donut and I had the Samoa, a takeoff on the great Girl Scout cookie. Both were very good although the Samoa was fantastic, a meal in itself IMHO. The tiny place is staffed by two live wires who gave us guidance on what to do and see in Tom's River and were quite entertaining. Much better than the usual chain donuts in the area. You cannot possibly put into words the magic that is Uncle Dood's. FRESH donuts, right out of the fryer, made to order, with fresh glazes, icings, toppings, and fillings. My suggestion- GO EARLY or you will wait a while because, as I said, everything is made to order. Another secret tip for you is that they'll make you your own custom donut- not into reindeer poops or the fruity pebbles (which is delicious by the way)? Geez where do I start?? Is it the aroma of fresh donuts as you walk in...or the super friendly owners...the donut menu that changes monthly...or the best hot donut I've EVER had? I happened on Uncle Dood's on Yelp looking for good chinese in Toms River (btw- NEVER going to find that) and while searching I came across this new donut shop and had to try it. The first donut I tried was French Toast...and it was warm with a crispy outside with a warm soft inside, the topping was perfect just enough sweet and cinnamon flavor. Indulged and bought a mix of 9 for today and a mix of 9 (the Sept flavors) for tomorrow. Thank you Uncle Dood's for the indulgent donut...how about helping me find a good chinese take out now? Was glad to find this very unique donut shoppe! The set up for purchasing donuts is really cool! Plexiglass allows you to see the plain donuts ready to be hand dipped to order. The gentleman that takes your order is very courteous and friendly. You pick from 12 flavored of the month. He told me that next month will be People's choice, where a Facebook vote will take place to choose selection. Really hip, current , and a welcomed addition to TR downtown . I was driving down Water St, and noticed this small white building with a line. What? A new doughnut shop? I had my 3 kids with me and we headed in to check it out. You could see this guys genuine love for his business in how he was so happy to see each and every customer. No fake smiles no sighs or eye rolling as my kids tried to figure out the menu--and then decided go make their own. Blueberry icing with bacon. Gross. But they were thrilled they got to do it. A few more high school kids joined in, and it became a joke. The kids loved the doughnuts and ask to bring them to every morning play date we have.
