Being from the nyc area, I have pretty high expectations for bagels, and I was expecting stop and shop quality when I walked into Uncle Jon's, but I am pleasantly surprised. The bagels good, better than my local place in Fort lee, a little stingy on the cream cheese but that's okay. The service was good, everyone was friendly and eager to serve. They seemed happy to be at work, unlike most soul sucking chains with clock watching under paid and under appreciated employees. The atmosphere was nice, free wifi. I've been a long time patron of Uncle Johns. It's been a great place to mingle with the neighbors, hear John's sailing stories and enjoy a good coffee, bagle or panini. I was worried to see a drive thru Dunkins move in down the street and was concerned how that would affect the small town charm of Uncle John's; I am thankful to say it hasn't. The prices are a bit high, but nowhere near the beating you take when you enter the pearly gates of Starbucks. Nothing beats an asiago cheese bagel made on the panini press from Uncle Jons. When I spend time at my parents vacation house during the summer - I get one every morning and never get sick of them. It's a ritual in our house as soon as we wake up, first act of the day is a trip to uncle jons. The bear claw is addicting. Don't get one unless you plan on always getting one. The only thing making this a 4 instead of a 5 is that the service isn't the best at times and it's a little pricey. The only other comment is that they really need to realize how popular they are! Half the time they sell out of the asiago bagels before I get there. So disappointing. Excellent coffee, I had their dark roast for the day and was happy they had organic sugar and cream instead of half and half. I also had a cranberry muffin which was just outstanding. No one can pretend the service is competent or the operation efficient. But the food is typically tasty and it's almost the only place in town so I guess they think we have to deal with incompetence. I went in this morning with plenty of time to spare. Only one person was waiting on an order so I was excited I wouldn't have a crazy wait. I ordered a six dollar sandwich and left a $2 tip and waited. After a bit I realized people behind me were getting their food. I looked closely at the prep area and didn't see anything resembling my order. I flagged down one of the workers and pointed out that my order hasn't been started despite having been ordered 15 minutes ago. She told the inept girl working the prep area to start it. She didn't. Then they started to get slammed. The guy who took my order and thanked me for my generous tip noticed me still standing there. He asked me what I was waiting on "The sandwich I ordered 20 minutes ago." He then turned to inept prep worker and told her again to start order (which he recited from memory with no assist). Oh ya, in the five minutes since the last person told her to start, she still hadn't started. So she finally put my bagel on the grill and awkwardly just starts moving it around, ultimately just burning the bagel beyond recognition. While charcoaling the bagel she took the sausage, egg patty and cheese from the fridge and put them on the prep surface. She took burnt bagel off the grill,put cold unwarmed food on burnt bagel, and had the audacity to hand it to me. So I paid $8 for an inedible sandwich. Why didn't I demand my money back or make them do it right? This has now gone on for more than half an hour, and it made me late for an 8am appointment. Never an apology, never an offer of anything comped, not even an effort to actually fill the order properly. This was just a huge and unacceptable F you (to a 33% tipper). Uncle Jon's is a mixed blessing. It is great to have a nice coffee shop in such a small town. It isn't great to watch too closely when they prepare anything. I've observed: - A barista who was washing something that spilled on the floor when I came in, put his rag from the floor on the food preparation area, only to have the rag pushed to the side and cream cheese added to my bagel on the same same surface - A sandwich maker cough directly on someone's sandwich, wipe her nose, and then wrap the sandwich and hand it off to the customer - Bagels sliced in hand towards the palm of the person doing the slicing (this is their standard approach - come on...invest in a $10 holder before someone slices themselves instead of my asiago bagel) - Dairy products sit on the counter for over an hour, unrefrigerated It's frustrating because I want to love this place. And the food, although expensive, is generally good. There aren't many options in Marion. read more

Great place to gather with friends. Indoor and outdoor seating! The coffee and food are a little on the pricey side, but well worth it. The coffee is amazing. The food, although pricey, far exceed the mega chain coffee houses. It is also very personable. "Everyone knows your name" comes to mind. The owners and the staff are pleasant & work hard to make sure you are not waiting too long. I like when the managers/owners stop and help the customers, shows that they actually care. read more

I have been here a number of times and have come the conclusion that it has gone downhill from the first time I've came here. The coffee isn't the best. it is also an overpriced spot in town. The food isn't worth the price especially because it's low quality and you walk in and see flies and fruit flies sitting on the pastries it is completely foul. Another thing is the management of this place is ridiculous. The manager seems like she has no idea what she is doing and is rude towards her own employees I can not support a place that doesn't have respect towards their staff. I come here all the time for a good iced coffee or latte, and the bagels and wraps are great too. I would highly recommend the Thai chicken wrap. Sometimes it gets slow or congested in the morning or around lunch time, but it's worth the wait! The coffee and food here are really good... if you get what you ordered... on a good day. I've only been here about half a dozen or so times, but it seems to be really hit or miss. I've gotten cold coffee, really weak coffee, amazing coffee, tuna melts with no cheese and random mustard caked on the outside of the bread, then an amazing tuna melt, then an amazing milano panini, then a burnt coffee... I just can't decide if I like this place yet. My advice: give it a shot, but taste what you ordered before you leave the place! read more

The coffee here is perfect. I buy the beans and make it at home as well. Uncle Jon's has become a fixture of Marion and I couldn't picture the town without it. It's the perfect place to meet friends, meet clients or bring the kids. How many places can you say that about? I have so many favorite foods here from the curry chicken salad to the risotto cakes to the amazing goat cheese, candied pecan salad. I have posted positive reviews on Uncle Johns before, but today was a really disappointing experience. My husband and I came in for a rare few minutes to eat and chat without the kids. While my coffee and sandwich came out great, his sandwich took 10 minutes, included cold sausage and no egg :( Really bummed. We did mention it to them and they refunded our money and gave us a free pastry. Disappointing but we will give it another shot because of the solid reply. Good quick bites at fair but not great prices. Here's the catch: management/ownership seriously needs to get off their butts and paint the patched up walls and buy basic standard items. I think the walls have been like this for over a year! They actually put their coffee creamers, milk, and sugar in drinking cups and they're empty half the time. The cons are seriously making me think about avoiding this place. I hope they read this review and fix these glaring problems. Wonderful local place. Always friendly fast service, and everything we've had has been yummy. Awesome grab and go lunch selections, especially the salads - I love the curry chicken! Coffee always strong and good, and lots of variety. Worth the tiny bit of extra time to run in - it will make your soul happier than getting a bland coffee and stale pastry at the Dunkin' drive thru. If you are from mass you know what coffee milk is. I went into Uncle Jon's coffee for a coffee and came out with coffee milk that was $8. I watched the employee make it and fill the cup 80% with milk and put a splash of coffee in it. I am not one to complain so I didn't but I will no longer be going to this shop. I would rather go to Dunkin and pay $3 for a coffee with an espresso shot to get my morning started then go back here and get "coffee". I have been here many times before and it was great but the last few times haven't been too good. read more

It's not a Starbucks, and so I am immediately sympathetic towards it. Pastries are good but not good enough to make this place a destination. Coffee is like wine; much of the hype is driven the Emperors new clothes psychodynamic. Spectacular wine and coffe, however, are always crystal clearly apparent when you taste it. My espresso was served in a tall paper cup. This is egregious. It's like getting your sushi cooked. Espresso should be served in porcelain demitasse or at least in a paper demitasse cup. Also, my espresso did not have crema. The place functioned like a Starbucks run by well intentioned high school students. Marion needs a serious cafe where true espresso can be served. read more

I go to Uncle Jon's on a regular basis and have for years. Lately, I have seen the level of service go down over that time. More than once, the wait staff has gotten my order wrong which again happened just a few days ago. And I don't order difficult drinks or food. Just the simple stuff. I asked for a hot green tea and somehow ended up with an iced tea. The cashier was rushing through the orders and as I waited for my food, I saw that someone else's order had also been done incorrectly. I think the issue is that these young people do not listen. When I was ordering, the cashier kept saying " Your total will be ..." instead of "Is there anything else you would like today." Since I had two people in my party, I had to interrupt her to keep her from totally my order so I could add more food and drinks. Listening skills are important in any industry, but especially in the service industry. Working hard to get the order correct and complete is also very important. To improve service, I think management needs to conduct some training and oversight activities. read more

We ended up regulars here. It was not bad for the first year we started going (late 2016) but seemed to go downhill over time. A high turn around of teenagers working the counter which I guess has to be expected, and usually they're doing ok. It's expensive - maybe that too is to be expected for the cost of rent/lease in Marion. The food is usually quite good. Coffee is decent but overpriced. We used to get panini sandwiches and they'd come with a little bag of Cape Cod chips. A month ago I got one and when the girl didn't give me the chips, I asked. She said "oh they don't come with chips anymore." Awesome. Price didn't go down though did it? So even less value for your money. AND - last but definitely not least - its frequently dirty in there: counters and tables, even when you walk in and there's no customers, and 4 girls behind the counter standing idle. I've also read a few other Yelp reviews saying the place was dirty, so I guess the owner doesn't care. Watch out owner - there are other places to get coffee! I'm happy with Cumberlands' bigger coffee for $1.06! read more
