Not the best mexican/tex-mex restaurant on the planet but it's certainly tasty and good. The service is friendly and helpful. I usually prefer the local restaurants over chains like this but as far as chains go it's pretty decent. Drinks are great and usually strong. Chips and salsa are top-notch. Shrimp fajitas are great lunch item although you do get smaller shrimp but that's offset by the melted butter dip that reminds you that eating good is fun even if it's going to kill you. read more

The bacon wrapped shrimp, steak and chicken (in that order) are my favorites. I haven't really ventured out with anything else because I go there when I need to satisfy my fajita craving. I've tried the enchiladas which are tasty but I can't seem to stray from my old faithful. Table side guacamole is a cool sight, being able to see them make it is an experience added to dinner. And you can customize how much of each ingredient you'd like to fit your preference though there has been times the avocados didn't taste quite right. Not impressed. Menu is classic Tex-Mex, but preparation was mediocre and menu is over-priced, given the quality of food. My daughter's meal was delayed long after the rest of us were served, and her grilled vegetables tasted smoky and acrid, as if they'd been hurriedly prepared on a too-hot grill. I also suspect they put wheat flour in almost everything, making this a totally unworkable place for people like me, who must adhere to a gluten-free diet. The tortilla chips, which should be gluten free, may have been cross-contaminated. I didn't feel well after eating them. There are far better places for Mexican food. read more

Ventured out to try the chocolate pinata for a Birthday party on a Friday afternoon. For $25 I guess chocolate pianata's with churros and fruit inside were decent tasting. Other than that this place gets one star. Entrees were easily $15 and up, but the taste is bland, bland, blad. My friend's dishes were pretty much the same, just bland. Food is poor for the high prices they charge. Cocktails were weak and very pricey for even happy hour timing! Lots of kids were there, so it was a kid-friendly place. Our waitress was nice and friendly. I won't be coming back here ever though. My friends and I still can't understand how we ended up spending like $50 a person there! So I went to lunch with my mom today. Was sat by the bathroom. Big no no. Asked for the tamales with no meat, chicken.was told they were pre made, and couldn't get them that was. Really? Lalo the server was fab....exceptional. Had Juanitas platter....not hot enough....and too much food. Joined the loyalty club to get the free guac.....too much with what I ordered. The swirl was great tasting but not cold enough...liquidy. I personally don't think Uncle's is as good as it used to be....salsa seemed not as flavorful....no chile rellenos at all....seemed odd. I really like this location! I LOVE their food!! They have the best fajitas & frozen margaritas!! My favorite is the strawberry frozen margarita! The only thing that this place is lacking is the speed of the service. It always feels like the servers are always in a hurry. Kind of like they don't have enough time to take care of their tables. There are signs that this chain is slipping...badly. Takeout from the Reston location demonstrated that the signature salsa was badly mishandled in the kitchen. Too much heat, no smoky flavor. The salsa was much darker than normal. Then last night...we had to request FIVE replacements of the napkin-wrapped silverware because of caked food and filth on the knives, forks, and spoons. The special last night, chipotle chicken quesadillas, were far below Uncle Julio standards....tasteless chicken filling, gummy, heavy dough, Something is very wrong at this DC chain. The service at Uncle Julio's in Fairfax Corner isn't the best, but the food is usually good and consistent. Really like the jumbo shrimp Camarones Diablo entree and the frozen margaritas are awesome! The atmosphere is very casual and good for large groups since its pretty loud inside. The outdoor patio area is also nice to just unwind and enjoy a cool frozen margaritas on a summer day! Overall not the best place to eat but when craving for some Tex-Med and its convenient location, I would say its still a place I would continue to go. read more

Three different enchiladas, but the flavor was almost the same for each of them! The sauces may look different, but it didn't have a big difference in terms of taste. I love Uncle Julio's! I have been going for years and I get the same thing every time, the Carne Asada. You can also ask for the Queso Flameado although it is not on the menu. The restaurant is usually busy but the service is consistently good. Tortillas are made fresh and come out hot! They previously had regular flan which was delicious and then changed it to coconut flan which was delicious as well. Recent visit informed me that Uncle Julio's took flan off the menu. Please bring back the regular and/or coconut flan! :-) Overall great place, will still go back for the Carne Asada! read more

This might be the WORST experience I've ever had. Patio is first come first serve, we had reservations but after arriving and noticing two tables getting up, we decided to wait for the table on the patio. We stood next to a full dirty plated table for 8 minutes without acknowledgement. Then after the server cleared the table, didn't wipe it down, waits another 7 minutes. Meanwhile the dirt ground of food has 15-20 flies all over it, and it never got swept. We were finally seated, and waited another 6 minutes before being welcomed. The busboys were coming out and exchanging the full tubs with dirty ones. Not rinsed. We then before leaving without eating, we decided to try it again inside...I hope they figure out how to manage these simple things to create a good experience. I chose to try out Uncle Julio's because so many co-workers mentioned that it was really great. I must say that they were all right on. This place is delicious and very reasonable. Adding double meat to your tacos yields some of the biggest tacos that I've seen. There are some interesting meat choices too. I ordered one chicken and one carne asada taco both with double meat. The chicken was good, but the carne asada was unbelievable. The two double meat tacos (more like 4 tacos) and a beer were about $13. Typical mediocre, Americanized "Mexican" food. I put Mexican in quotations because real Mexican food is much tastier and healthier than what Uncle Julio's and its fellow-travelers offer. You'll find all the usual suspects: flautas, burritos, chimichangas, enchiladas, tacos, and quesadillas. None are terrible, none are particularly good. They're all heavy and greasy. Like any high-volume, low-quality restaurant, there were typical missteps; the chicken & steak combo fajita platter came out cold. The service was good, given the venue, however. They promptly corrected the mistake. The salads are primarily lettuce and little more than that. The menu is wholly uninspired; the most interesting item was the frozen margarita, frozen sangria swirl. If you can eat anywhere else, do yourself a favor and skip Uncle Julio's. read more

My girlfriend and I went to the restaurant for the first time, and it was outstanding! The food was amazing! The ingredients were extremely fresh and delicious. The cowboy queso dip was on point - the bacon and steak in the dip could have been meals by themselves - the quality of each was that good. The chips are extremely fresh and light. Our waiter was Bryson, who honestly went above and beyond - he definitely made the difference on our first trip to Uncle J's. All the food was extremely tasting and fresh - I can't stress the fresh part enough. The deserts were really great as well. We will definitely be going back. I first went to this local chain in the early 90s when it was opened in Arlington. I really like it at the time, but over the years it went downhill. Around 2008 or so I tried the one in Reston and had an on and off opinion. Then last year I went to Arlington again, and man... it was bad! Last night I gave Uncle Julio's Fairfax Corner location a try. I have to say that the experience was much better. If you go for one of the specialty margaritas, they are good. Fresh lime juice and a nice amount of tequila. The frozen marg still tastes like a powder mix, but it is in fact super frozen and easy to get used to. The guacamole made at the table is a nice touch. It is big and fresh, and very nicely done. I had enchiladas. The salsa very was not so good. I also tasted another enchilada dish with the red salsa - the red salsa was very nice with a strong mesquite taste. With all said, the service was excellent. Our server was very friendly, quick, and I did not think twice about throwing a 20 percent tip for the meal. The atmosphere is also very nice. one final observation - the fresh chips.... They need to ensure that all the oil has been drained. Oil still on the chips ruins them. Price - the overpriced drinks ran up the bill, but $90 is too much for a place like Uncle Julio's read more

FAJITAS! Their fajitas are the best I've ever had. When I think of the best Mexican dish I've ever had I think of these fajitas. I normally do chicken but the steak fajitas are delicious as well. When we have family visiting from out of the area we take them here. It's a little more pricey but worth it to go there every once in a while (birthday dinners, etc.) The service has always been good for us! The environment is very upbeat and tex-mex.
