Uncle Mutt's is a fast-food BBQ joint, meaning that the food you consume will have been sitting under old orange heat lamps for an indeterminable length of time. Don't get me wrong - I come here once in a blue moon. But I usually wish I'd driven the extra few miles to Mumphord's. The dining area is dark, with a dirty 70s vibe (as in, it's only been maintenance-cleaned since the 1970s), The portions are SMALL for the price. It costs about $10 per person for a decent meal, and most of the time, the sides make the meal a filling one. The sauce is meh. It's nothing special. The meat is hit-or-miss, sometimes it's good, sometimes it's very dry. They do have good sides - we love the fried sweet corn (usually) and the roasted potatoes. All in all, if I have a craving for BBQ (or just the fried sweet corn) and I'm in this part of town, I might stop in. But it's not a place I'd recommend as the best in Victoria. read more

We hadn't been to Uncle Mutts in years but decided to try it the other night. OMG! It was so good. They had a 2/$25 plate deal on a Friday night. My husband had brisket and it was so tender and flavorful. He went nuts over the spicy black eyed peas and pea salad. I had the bbq chicken which was ok. I had dinner here a couple weeks ago while visiting the area for work. I had the chicken with pinto beans and potato salad. The chicken was moist and flavorful. Overall, I thought the food was good as as the service. The building is older but that didn't takeaway from my experience at all. Not the best, but not the worst... For the most part, other reviewers have summed it up: An older place that may seem a bit dirty inside, but serves some ok to decent food. I had a two meat platter with brisket and sausage. The sausage was the better of the two, but the sauce used was rather soupy and not too spicy. Did like the new potatoes that they used, as they had a bit of an extra kick. My girlfriend got the BBQ brisket sandwich which seemed to have better cuts of meat and a thicker sauce. We arrived close to closing time. Hubby and I travel all over the US and this is some of the best smoked meat we have had. The brisket was moist and tender, the ribs practically fell off the bone, the sausage was delicious. Apple cobbler - oh my gosh good! The people are super friendly and the service was great. Took family who were visiting here for some good texas bbq. We were NOT disappointed. I got the 3 meat 2 side plate to share with my 3 children and it was the perfect amount. We had the brisket, chicken, and mashed potatoes. My husband got the 2 meat, 2 side plate. Pork ribs, sausage, potatoes, and coleslaw. All of it was soooo good. Good prices too. I wasn't impressed. We ordered the special which included a chopped beef sandwich, chips and a drink. They were out of Diet Coke. That was disappointing. But the bigger let down was the sandwich. You could squeeze the grease out of it like a sponge. Chopped beef is going to have SOME grease but this was excessive. The sandwich had a Smokey flavor, but there was no sauce, not on the sandwich, not on the buffet, not on the table, and not on the condiment table. NO SAUCE! First customer of the day. I got the 3 meat 2 sides plate and a drink for $19.14 total. Ribs - 7. The flavor was a seven. Tenderness was a seven. ---- Brisket - tenderness -7 Flavor 6- kinda bland . They need to find a way to get the flavor into the meat during the cooking process. Not just slather it with spices on the outside. Meet lost its tenderness when taken out of the heat and sat on my plate while I ate my ribs. ( it looked juicier initially) Perhaps leaving a little of the fat on it would help. My pieces of Brisket were very lean. ( or offer a choice of lean or fatty brisket.) Barbecue sauce- 8.5 A little spicy with a hint of sweet. Very good. I would have bought some if you had it displayed in bottles to sell. ---- Turkey meat. Disgusting! Gross.... I can't explain enough! I decided to see what all the talk was about so I went through the drive through... They got my order wrong first. Well I ordered a chopped beef sandwich. Gross the meat was hard and had a smoky flavor but hard to chew I mean hard. The sauce was not what I expected. Mumphord's is the best BBQ in Victoria, but Uncle Mutts is not bad. Their chopped BBQ brisket sandwich is really good and I have always loved their fried corn fritters. Oh, and a little secret is that they can make a good ole fashioned Dr. Pepper with added vanilla syrup. read more

I ordered the sliced brisket plate, beans, and potato salad My wife ordered the chopped brisket sandwich plate. Let me start this...the brisket was ok. The beans were ok. The potato salad was not good at all. It was bland. My wife said her sandwich was very salty. She thought the beans were ok but the potato salad was bland. The inside of the restaurant was not very clean especially at the ordering station. I should have walked out at that point but I said I would give them a chance. The portion size was not very good either they had Mrs. Baird's bread which was good and a salad bar with fixings which was ok and had jalapeños, pickles, onions, etc. Oh and their Barbeque sauce was simply ok. Mine and my husbands top choice restaurant to eat at in Vic....not only is the brisket tender and amazing with the sauce but all of the sides are soo good, I have a hard time only choosing 2 for my plate and often times will order an extra, the mashed potatoes with gravy and the fried corn nuggets make my mouth water, service is also pretty quick. read more

I must admit the food was very tasty, but eating here scares me. The ribs, sausage and brisket had great flavor. The sauce and sides were delicious. BUT....the food was only luke warm and there was more mold on the soda machine than the shower stall in a cheap motel. Talk about let down. I'm new to Victoria and pride myself on trying bbq in any city I travel to. Uncle mutts served me cold brisket that looked laser cut and tasted as if it had an affair with liquid smoke. The macaroni salad was awful, they could have had a lighter hand with the mayo.
