'Glamping' is a generous description as my family has glamped in Goleta / Santa Barbara, Calif. where safari tents have electricity (heaters throughout the evening), mini fridges, and microwaves. The site has a general store as well as a market/deli Under Canvas is closer to camping than glamping for the following reasons: 1) It took effort to start evening fires in the wood stove, but we didn't appreciate waking every 1.5 - 2 hrs to maintain the fire... and overnight / early morning temps were 37* F - 40s * F. 2) Other campers were loud and didn't respect quiet hours starting at 10pm. We're sympathetic with families with children. However adults are capable of speaking in lower volumes, cheering / shouting, etc. and committed to the guest agreement. (Mgmt. likely anticipates this, so ear plugs and eye masks are available for free in the lobby.) 3) The on-site breakfast restaurant (back of house in particular) isn't prepared for the number of diners. If you bring your own food, your vehicle serves as a rodent / bear box food locker. We didn't mind the common bathhouse, with locks that show which units are occupied / vacant. Each unit affords more privacy because they feature sink, toilet and shower (water is heated by a propane tank). Each unit has electricity and is temperature controlled. Highlights: a) Complimentary hot coffee, hot water, tea bags, decaf coffee packs are available in the lobby as early as 6am daily. (Half & half and oat milk and sweetener condiments are available.) The lobby features commercially packaged food & drink items, in addition to merchandise (apparel, games, maps) b) Despite the cold temps, the beds are comfortable and the 6-layers of bedding kept us warm. Hot water bottles are available upon request. Furniture inside and outside tents encourage rest. c) USB-charged lanterns and power banks to recharge personal electronic devices are available. Exchange the power banks at the front desk as needed. d) Multiple cornhole sets available and a children's play area nearby, in the open space adjacent to the lobby. e) Fire pits and s'mores ingredients are available nightly if you want to partake. A no-host (you pay) happy hour drink trailer is also available in the open space adjacent to the lobby. f) Daily activities planned for children, in addition to a live singer-songwriter during a happy hour once or twice a week. g) Friendly staff on a work exchange from across the U.S. They do their best... Campers are advised to text the front desk to seek assistance. This site is less than a 15 min one-way drive to the town of West Yellowstone. The Food Roundup store is great for groceries if you want to stock a cooler for lunch within the national park. I recall one father asking the UC staff if milk was sold on site. read more

I had a nice experience here with my wife last week on a quick one night stay. I would echo pretty much everything that Brandy C. said from almost exactly one year ago except that we had our own rudimentary "bathroom" in our tent. If you read Adriana's review before that one, you may be mistaken because while much of the staff is young here, I think they would handle an emergency just fine and their enthusiasm and dedication to ensure a positive guest experience is clear. Furthermore, if you are expecting glamping to control for the elements, you haven't read enough about Under Canvas or glamping in general. When we visited it was close to freezing in the middle of the night. Like Adriana we also woke up some when the fire burned out in the middle of the night. On the other hand, we also experienced the great pleasure of creating a roaring fire that, for most of the night, kept our tent very warm, and created a peaceful backdrop to reading in the comfy chairs in the tent. It was also so windy we felt like the tent might blow down but it was fine. The elements are part of what you except when you sleep in nature. Compared to our stay at Under Canvas in Paradise Valley at the other end of the park it was slightly cheaper here. Perhaps it is because there's more competition nearby as it is much closer to a population center (and entrance to the park) with the town of West Yellowstone. Like Brandy, we also heard more noise outside (Paradise Valley was silent) but otherwise, the feel and overall arrangement is very similar of course between the different Under Canvas.' If you are visiting Yellowstone and focusing on the Geothermal parts of the park on the Western side, Under Canvas could be a convenient option for you, although for the price, I would also consider just staying in the park as there so many beautiful (often rustic lodges) and upon checking just now, even for this weekend, most of them were cheaper than Under Canvas. Of course you can't compare the glamping experience but you should also consider how much time you have too as even from Under Canvas West Yellowstone, you will add an hour often times given the traffic getting in and/or out of the park each day and could just stay in the park. read more

Scenic camping location. Being able to lounge in a warm king size bed with a wood burning stove in the morning is a magical experience. However, with the price of this place, I expect the bare bone amenities to be provided. At check in, 2 out of 3 battery powered lamps were dead. 1 out of 2 battery packs were dead. Called the front desk twice, and no one picked up. An element outside of management's control is the other guests. Given your proximity to other tents and paths next to your tent, you are at the mercy of other guests' etiquette. If they sneeze, you'll hear it. At the crack of dawn, someone was trying to scare children by banging on their tent, and the children were screaming. There was also a loud beeping that went on for a while. Overall, I am glad that I stayed here and had the experience. I would just caution you to completely lower your expectations. read more

I very much enjoyed glamping at Under Canvas. It can be a bit pricey, but it was nice being outdoors and sitting by the fire in the common area. Luckily my tent was near one of the bathrooms, so it was convenient enough. The staff were very helpful and friendly throughout our stay. I enjoyed when they scheduled an acoustic performer to come out to the property and entertain those that were interested. I also appreciated that the coffee, tea and cider were complimentary each morning. There were several fire pits and tables to sit by outdoors. There's also an indoor area where guests could play board games provided by the property. The one downside is that you can hear everything. People walking by, golf carts driving by, talking, etc. they do provide ear plugs and eye masks, but it was still bothersome at times. If you're planning to visit, consider staying at a time when it doesn't get cold at night. We didn't get as much sleep due to having to keep the fire going in the tent. The fire would burn out every 2 hours or so. Overall, I appreciated the experience and would consider staying at a different property in the future. read more

This is camping, NOT glamping, so you be aware that you are paying Ritz Carlton Hotel prices for a tent that is so close to others that you hear everything including crying children and guests who might be less than aware of the noise they are making. Be prepared that there is very little sleep to be had at Under Canvas West Yellowstone. The tents are aesthetically pleasing and the views are stunning but they are in fact just tents on a wood platform with a basic toilet, no electricity; pull chain water; battery powered lights that you have to continually charge and which we had 1 out of 3 that never worked and had to request new battery packs day two. We understand that weather cannot be helped but we experienced terrifying wind and cold temps that burned the wood in our stove so fast that we were stoking it every 45 minutes on nights that went below 30 in late August. We never could get our tent heated. But the biggest issue we had was that we booked three very expensive excursions through Under Canvas for a booking fee and did not receive full details. We did receive confirmations upon booking with basic information including start and end times which we thought was all we were getting. Of course, having never done this before, we didn't even know that we should be expecting more emails from Under Canvas. We ALL were under the impression that we would get more details when we arrived. This led to us missing our first excursion on our first night which cost $750 plus a $50 booking fee. We arrived at the main tents which is where we understood we were supposed to be meeting for all excursions this one being the Western Cookout and horse ride excursion. Upon arrival to the main tents at 4:45 pm for what we understood was a 5 p.m. start time, we were told that the excursion actually took place off property and 30 minutes away. We were further told that we had to drive ourselves, and that we were already too late for the horse ride which began at 4:30 p.m. This was so disappointing as we were really looking forward to it and was the kick off event for our West Yellowstone vacation. We did drive frantically to ranch where this was to be happening only to find that the horses had, in fact, left one hour prior and the wagons were all full with families. We immediately began calling Under Canvas for a refund and three weeks later we are still waiting for the refund they promised us on that night. We also signed up for the fly fishing experience which we were told included transportation but we ended up having to drive ourselves because the guide told us he didn't have room in his car for us more than two people. We signed up for four people three months prior so he knew we were a group of four and we were never told that we wouldn't have transportation. Under Canvas has not taken any responsibility for these issues and instead has said it was our responsibility to know that we should have received detailed emails for each excursion. Further, they told us that the fishing guide did in fact offer to drive us but that we declined. This is an outright lie. They should not be offering excursions that they book on your behalf if they don't follow up with complete details before arrival AND upon check in. Had they done this, we would have at least been informed upon check in and we would have had a completely different experience. We did encounter a couple of really nice staff members (Kolbie was a sweetheart) and one very sour person who shouldn't be in hospitality. The bottom line is that if you are going to charge this much for basic accommodations, you should go above and beyond for service. Under Canvas West Yellowstone just hasn't figured that out. If we were to go to this area again we would stay in Big Sky at Lone Mountain Ranch or Rainbow Lodge where they offer beautifully appointed log cabins, abundant hospitality, activities and gourmet dining for less than the cost of a night at Under Canvas West Yellowstone. read more

We had a wonderful experience at Under Canvas West Yellowstone. We had been wanting to stay at one of their locations for a long time, luckily this time availability and our travel dates matched up. This site is not too far from the West Yellowstone entrance so it was perfect. We arrived early in the evening and chilled in the main outdoor lobby area. They had live music going on with S'mores and fire pits to keep you warm. It was perfect!! They also had a jewelry making session for kids but we too tried our hands at making one :) it was fun. The activity tent has many boardgames to play. They don't allow food inside the tents but you can keep it in the car. Carry your snacks in the car, because the ones they were selling on the property were too expensive. Car parking isn't tent-adjacent, so you might have to walk some from parking to the tent or their golf carts can help you with it. Tents were minimal, a little more decor or bigger rugs will go a long way for the glamping feel. For some tents restrooms, bathrooms are shared. They were pretty clean though. The staff is very friendly here and keen on helping. Overall we had a good stay here read more

Under Canvas was honestly one of the most beautiful places I've ever stayed, but also one of the worst experiences I've had. The scenery was incredible and the location was breathtaking, but we were absolutely freezing. It was around 30 degrees at night, and I don't feel like the experience was really thought out for those temperatures. I expected glamping, but what I got felt like full-on camping. The staff was friendly and helpful, but they seemed very young. While everyone was kind, I couldn't help but wonder how an emergency or difficult situation would be handled, especially given how remote the location felt. I'm not a camper, which is why I chose glamping in the first place. Instead, I felt like I got the raw camping experience. We spent most of the night trying to stay warm, and honestly, at one point it felt like we were on the Titanic. The property itself is gorgeous, and that's what makes this so disappointing. The beauty of the place is a 10/10, but the comfort level was not what I expected. If you're going during cold weather, be prepared, because this is much closer to camping than I realized. read more

My husband & I had the pleasure of staying at Under Canvas in June for my birthday. The experience was perfect for our first time in Yellowstone. The staff were so nice from check in to check out. We stayed in the Stargazer. The staff explained how the showers worked, what we had at each nightstand and how to start the fire. This was very helpful as the first time I tried taking a shower the water was ice cold. I contacted the guest service number and right away, the maintenance team came over and got the propane tank replaced. Our stay was very relaxing and we had a short 10-15 minute drive into town and the West side entrance. I would definitely stay here again. Plus some elk and a deer came up to the fields by our tent. read more

I need to make it clear in my review that I HAVE been camping. Like real camping. Tent camping in the wilderness and RV camping. Loved the concept of Glamping. Mixing camping and staying in a hotel? Yes please. The people were beyond friendly, it was an extremely welcoming environment. The amenities were nice, coffee bar in the am, s'mores in the evening, board games and local musicians make it a great place to just chill out. The tent was great. Enough room for the three of us, very comfortable. The wood burning stove kept the tent warm at night and the shower in the tent, while it was chilly out was nice and warm! My complaints are minimal but being that I have been camping before are kinda a big deal. There was standing water in my tent which should have been addressed before our arrival. The trails through the campground were rough and riddled with puddles from rain. However there should have been way more gravel as to avoid potholes and standing water. I have been in cheap cheap campgrounds before and the trails/roads were in way better condition. Here I'm paying a lot more for the "camping" experience and it's worse? No I should be walking on the finest gravel, graded often for the snobbiest of clients. When paying this premium I should not have to concern myself with mud puddles. Upon arrival we had requested a cot which we waited around for over an hour to get. Finally we decided to leave to get food and upon return the cot was not delivered because we had locked our tent... Why did it take over an hour initially? We mentioned it in our booking. This is just something they need to work on. Don't let my ramblings fool you. This place was amazing and I can't wait to get back here. The people, the views, the atmosphere, this place is amazing and well worth the $$$ read more

Would give a 3.5 if I could. Super cute accommodations and really friendly staff. They explain how the pull down showers work, give a fire starting demo, have live music & s'mores in the evenings. They provide coffee & tea at all hours as well as fire starter kits, towels, ear plugs, eye masks, and makeup wipes. They do have merch like raincoats, shirts, hats, sunglasses, sunscreen, etc. available too. If you're here in late August, prepare for chilly nights. The fireplace does help but you will have to tend to it throughout the night and it was in the 40s. We were placed near the bathrooms which was convenient but very noisy. You can hear people talking in surrounding tents, golf carts zipping by, and anybody who walks by. If you're a light sleeper I'd consider asking for a tent far away from the bathrooms. We stayed on a Saturday and Sunday, don't believe there are quiet hours bc Saturday night kids were screaming and I mean screaming until 11pm near the lobby area. Love kids being kids but needed a good nights sleep & that was irritating. Sunday was quieter. The restaurant was log cabin like and just okay. Again, really nice staff. read more

A nice alternative to genuine camping or staying in a motel or inn near West Yellowstone. The kids enjoyed the novelty of it. We enjoyed the nightly live music and fire pits at the main tent. FYI: It does get cold at night. The stove is pretty small, so it won't keep a fire going all night. You will need to toss a few logs in it throughout the night. The bedding keeps you warm during the night, but once you get out of bed, the room can get chilly. Parking: There are a few parking lots throughout the campground, so plan on walking a short distance to and from your car with luggage, etc. Dining: There isn't an onsite restaurant, it is just outside the property at the ranch next door. We had a few meals there and it was good, not great. read more

We stayed at Under Canvas in Moab several years ago and I loved it. A year ago we wanted to go to Yosemite and I mistook the Under Canvas in Yellowstone, for Yosemite, where they had announced they were going to build one, which I accidentally took for already having one in Yosemite and selected "sign me up", paid and then not ten minutes later, realized I had made a mistake. I called immediately upon recognizing my error only to find out that they have a strict "no refund" policy. They eventually agreed to move my reservation to May of the next year. At some point May was a conflict with a business commitment so a travel agent friend of mine called on my behalf. They moved it until July and relayed that they were not moving it again. The next representatives I tried to talk to about this, when I called to inquire about the several hundred dollars we were charged for the date move, said simply that " wow, I see they did change your reservation in spite of our "no change or refund policy". Making it all the more evident that I was going to get nowhere with this. So we went to Yellowstone. It was freezing as it turns out in july, and we could not get any hot water to come out of our faucet in the bathroom sink of our tent cabin suite. Also, I have a new appreciation for toilet seats in heated bathrooms. My poor husband stayed up all night feeding wood to the wood burning heater in the cabin. I woke up in the only warm spot in the middle of the bed. As I listened to the last of our kindling into that wood burning heater, I realized we weren't going to stay there much longer than the time it would take to get our luggage back in the car and head to the nearest, available, clean hotel room with a thermostat and hot water in the bathroom faucet. After all the fee additions when the dates were changed, the Under Canvas Tent Cabin Suite charges were up to over $800 per night. I can stay at my favorite beach side hotel in Laguna Beach for that price. This was not Laguna, or the four to five star accommodations one would expect to experience at that price point. I promised my husband I would never ask to go "glamping" at Under Canvas or anywhere else, ever again. I was happy to do it. read more

I stayed here a reprieve from 5 days of camping, however, it was not that experience for me. Cons: I was absolutely freezing during my stay. They have a stove that took a bit over an hour to bring the temp up in my tent, then only continues to warm for 2 hours. The next morning I went to the front desk and asked for a tip on how to get to burn for longer. They said that's just as long as it burns and you have to just keep fixing it throughout the night. My second night I was so cold (the ground was frozen outside) after it burning out the second time I just went to my car instead to warm up. There are bathrooms with showers, but you can often expect to find all of them occupied and wait out in the cold and rain. Pros: the staff are absolutely lovely and helpful. I also went whitewater rafting through a company they work with and that was spectacular. For over $300 a night, don't stay here if the nights are still cold. I imagine in the summer it would be manageable, but still very pricey. There is no electricity in the tents, just charging blocks you get from the desk. Bathrooms (communal) are pull chain to start water and keep pulling to keep it going. Hope this helps people not have the bad experience I did! read more

Located in West Yellowstone. Under Canvas is also known as Glamping. This review is way over due we visited Yellowstone last year in July and our first stop was here at Under Canvas. Check is super easy. You check in at the big tent in between all the other smaller tents. Parking is around this location also. There are bathrooms and showers which is great. Within reasonable distance from your tent. The tents have various options from a small text to safari tent. Inside our tent we had a very comfortable bed, drawers, coat hanger, and fire wood with heater to keep us warm. I love the solitude. Even though it was already crossed off my list of places to stay it is well worth coming back to again and again. read more

Glamping typically involves more comfort and luxury than traditional camping. If you are looking for a true glamping experience, worthly of the very high cost you are paying, DO NOT stay at Under Canvas West Yellowstone (UCWY). UCWY is a disaster. My flight was delayed and I arrived in the dark of night at 10:30 p.m. The sign for UC doesn't have any working lights, so I drove past it twice before I figured out where to turn. Once I got to the lobby I checked in and was taken to my tent in a golf cart. Once we got to the tent, the woman barely pulled on the zipper and told me to have a good night as she was walking off. It was very, very black in the tent and I had no idea where anything was or what to do. I suggested she come back and help me, which she did. It was very, very cold and foggy so I asked her to get the fire going and turn on some lights. She struggled with the fire and it went out 10 minutes later, so that didn't help. Considering the high cost of UCWY, and the fact they knew I was driving from the airport, you would think that they would have prepared the tent before I got there; started a fire so it was warm and welcoming, and turned on some lights, but apparently, this is beyond them. I was miserable and tired, so I did my best to get some sleep. The following morning I could see my breath in the tent. I texted the front desk and asked for someone to come start the fire. Now, I know how to create fire but this ugly metal tube is a totally different experience. The only way to build a fire in it is to get on your hands and knees and lean over to look inside. The other option is to sit on the floor and pray the fire keeps going. A very nice man showed up and he had the same struggle as we did the night before, but he got flames going, for about 10 minutes when it went out again. Still freezing, I finally got out of bed and put layers of clothing on, not a great morning. If you want a hot shower, you pull on the chain once so the water will heat, once it heats you pull on it again and get wet, soap yourself up standing in the room you can see your breathe in, and pull the chain again to rinse; the showers in the Air Force where better than this. If you are used to actual camping, and you have sooooooo much money you are willing to flush it down a toilet, I guess you could stay here, but why would you. There wasn't even 1 glass or cup in the tent, so I had to struggle to even take my medication before I went to sleep; Motel 6 will at least provide a plastic cup. The West Yellowstone area has a large number of hotels and I left UC first thing in the morning and went to the Hibernation Inn where I had a fireplace I could start with a wall switch, a full kitchen, a shower that worked like normal, a very comfortable bed and it cost much less than UC. Under Canvas was an absolutely incredible experience. I like camping but I like Glamping even more. What can I say, I'm a princess but I also like the outdoors. When my friend and I went to visit Yellowstone national park, we stayed at Under Canvas. We had a teepee set up where we had two cots and they came with all of the works: warm blankets, pillows, and a sleeping bag. There is a decent bathroom situation that has multiple stalls and also has showers. There was also a cute lodge/restaurant nearby where we were able to eat, have hot cocoa, relax and they also had some board games and books. It was absolutely wonderful to be able to feel like we were camping without having to set a ton of equipment up, bring stuff with us, and deal with a situation without running water. It was so nice to be out in nature and have an incredible view of the stars. I would happily stay again at any Under Canvas where ever they have them. read more

So we were not in a tent, but the log cabins. The cabins are adorable. They need some work, i.e., poor lighting, etc., but overall fine. What was NOT fine was the exorbitant daily $50 'resort fee'; why not just add it to the nightly price and be honest? Or, not charge since there were no resort amenities as the pool and restaurant were closed for the season (Sept stay), they do not provide bear spray so wandering the property is out (they DO have a helpful sign warning about grizzlies), and they tack on 10% to any offsite activities with which they partner. So what did the $50 cover? A s'more kit of a marshmallow, a graham cracker, and a mini Reese Cup. read more

The tents themselves were a unique blend of cottages and tents, featuring ensuite bathrooms with hot, running water, king-size beds, and even a wood-burning stove for chilly nights and the nights gets cold. We were there in August and we kept the stove going at night. The river flowing through the campsite added to the rustic charm, while the forest and mountain views were breathtaking. The dirt roads were a bit of a challenge, getting very dusty and muddy after rain, but it was a reminder that we were camping despite the luxurious accommodations in our tent. Our tent was close to the parking lot. If yours is further, you may be looking at a longer walk to get to your tent. The main lobby and adjoining patios provided ample communal space for meals, reading, connecting with friends and family, and learning. While we did not have the opportunity to take advantage of the complimentary yoga classes and crafts, we enjoyed the acoustic live music and outdoor games every night while we indulged in evening s'mores around the campfire with a glass of wine. Even thought restaurant staff was friendly and the overall ambiance good, the food was OK. Next time, we may try different restaurants around which would require quite a bit of driving. Waking up to the sounds of nature and getting ready for our daily adventure to explore America's oldest national park was priceless. Overall, Under Canvas provided a unique camping experience that was both comfortable and close to nature, making it the perfect retreat for anyone looking to disconnect from modern life and reconnect with nature. read more

Very disappointed. The only reason for 2 stars was the location in relation to the park entrance and comfortable beds. Our family was so excited for our one night staying at a suite, but upon leaving, we were thankful we only had to stay the one night. Tents: The smaller of our two tents was easy to heat considering the cold nights. The larger, master tent with the restroom was considerably larger, but the heat source was not. It definitely needs either a second heat source or at the very least, a larger one to be comparable to the tent size. We were out of fire materials before daybreak. We were provided portable chargers. These apparently were not charged beforehand and our phones/smart watches did not charge. Common/Lobby Area: Live music was nice, but, like other things, ended too early. It would have been nice to at least be able to purchase wine after the sun went down. Food/Dining: Gross. Waited over 2 hours for burgers, salad and some chicken fingers. Burgers were nothing more than a school cafeteria frozen patty. Fries and burgers were cold. Chicken fingers were good and fresh, but the ranch served as a dipping sauce tasted soured. Salad was the best meal. Drinks were not offered for refills or just new drink over course of meal. Sadly, breakfast was underwhelming as well. French Toast had scrambled eggs on bottom, little scrambler was inedible as was avocado toast. Many options from sample menu were not offered. Breakfast sandwich was fairly good. Cleanliness: Linens were fresh, floors/porches swept, main restrooms near lobby were clean. There was men's underwear--not ours--in our private restroom. Overall--this was not the luxury experience we were expecting. We would not do this again. read more

With half of Yellowstone closed and ALPS in place we have a day to spend in west Yellowstone, and it will be a great time to explore the campsite and town. Plenty of activities offered, trails and the option to just hang out at the river in a hammock if you like. The kids are enjoying the nightly activity and we are loving the entertainment and bar car. Proximity to town is amazing as well as close to the park west entrance. Last night we turned on one of the many propane fire pit tables that are scattered randomly around, grabbed a blanket and had a cozy spot to watch the sunset with a beer before bed. Experienced campers will find it luxurious for camping standards but if you are not a camper keep in mind you're still in a tent with a wood burning stove that needs feeding every few hours if it's cold. read more

Staying here was a very unique, interesting experience. There are some things I had wish we had known before booking: - The heat of the tent comes from a pellet stove that is fairly unreliable. The girl who set up the room could not get it to stay lit. As neither of us have much experience camping, we struggled as well. My boyfriend got up multiple times throughout the night to relight it as it does get cold at night. - Try your hardest to check in during daylight. We got there at night and it was stressful because you can't see anything. The girl trying to get us to our room got lost multiple times. They drive you in a golf cart and we are holding on to our luggage for dear life the whole time. - Regarding checkin, make sure you take a picture of what they make you sign regarding safety. You sign your name on a whiteboard, which I understand is for eco friendly reasons but after staying here I wish I had taken a picture of the liability form as I did not feel safe and secure here. - The showers you have to hold with one hand and bathe with the other. We had warm water. At night it is very cold, so when you get out of a shower wet you will be freezing, especially if your towel is damp from the night before. - Same thing with the sink, one hand only, except with only cold water. Best of luck shaving. - They should tell you this important safety note, but they don't. Do not put anything on the pellet stove. You will burn it and your tent will become very smoky. - You cannot bring any food into the tent because of bears - Going off of safety, anyone can unzip your tent as there is no lock on it. I felt like this should have been disclosed. I put all our valuables in the car. - There is no service or internet - All of this being said, the location was beautiful. The beds are comfortable. The stars at night are amazing. The staff is friendly (though most are fairly unknowledgeable. Most are teenagers/college aged). Overall, it was a unique experience. My main frustration is dealing with all of the above at the price point of 350+ a room per night. It is completely outrageous. If you are comfortable paying that given everything above, you will have a wonderful time. read more

The restaurant is nice and so convenient to have. The staff was super friendly and helpful. Our young son was incredibly enthusiastic about this place. Under the canvas is cool but definitely not worth the money your spending. We got a stargazer-which is the most expensive canvas that was offered and we couldn't see a single star. It was cloudy, but we figured it would clear up at night and we could see a couple stars- this wasn't the case. It started to rain at night and we didn't end up seeing anything. We tried talking to the receptionist the front desk to see if we could get a portion of our money back- but she said that we were warned the weather could effect our view from the star outlook, and in all fairness we knew this but we were still disappointed. Our neighbors said they couldn't see anything the night before either so this might be something to think about before booking! Also we didn't have any towels when we first got there, and we called the receptionist to bring us some along with some ice and they said they would- it took about four hours for the towels which is ridiculous for the amount of money we spent and the receptionist said it's because they ran out of towels-how can there not be towels at a place that charges $800/night?! Under the canvas just started in May, so it's a fairly new company in Yellowstone, but some of these kinks should be worked out after the first week or two of the business opening. The restaurant food was not as good as we thought and service was very slow- the food expectations didn't meet the prices. The reception does offer free coffee and tea as well as a small selection of grab and go salads/meat and cheeses for purchase. The highlight of the trip was the free s'mores that were offered- there were a couple of bonfires that were going at night and families were sitting by the fires which was nice and cozy- everyone was very friendly by the fire as well. The view was very nice and they did have a horse stable nearby. Overall the staff was nice but after our one night at the stargazer, we probably won't come back since it's not worth the money- also no WiFi! Luckily we had service but we were surprised. read more

Our second under canvass stay stay as part of our summer road trip. It's a much larger site as compared to the Grand Canyon. It's vast and beautiful but the weather can be very unpredictable. It rained the whole time we were there, not to mention the cold. Regardless, we had a great time. The amenities we're good and they provided a lot of firewood. It got down to the mid 30s at night and having the firewood is a must. As long as your fireplace is kept burning, it's really comfortable and cozy. However, the shower, even with hit water, can be a bit nippy. I could only imagine when the weather is good! Not really much to say other than I'm really impressed with under canvass. I'm felt compelled to write a review BEFORE my family and I have stayed at Under Canvas. We booked our tent via Hotels.com. We received an e-mail directly from UC stating they were full. We asked for them to keep our money in case a cancellation came up. They agreed. Today I received an e-mail that a tent did become available and we were able to officially book. Jolie, the Director of Reservations, was nothing short of amazing. In a day and age where customer service is being replaced by computers there is a personal touch or face of a business to reach out to if a problem arises that is lacking - and needed. Wow!!! We LOVED our stay here. If you're looking for luxury camping, off the grid a bit, this is the place. We had a stargazer tent, which was amazing for watch the moon. No electricity in the tent, but there was a wood burning stove to keep warm, two electric lanterns, and they provided a battery pack for phone charging. The tent was super clean and well appointed. We spent the early evening at the center tent, listening to live music, having fire roasted s'mores, and drinking a bottle of wine from the little horse trailer bar. We had breakfast at the lodge and, boy, was it delicious: an aioli breakfast sandwich and French toast. You couldn't ask for more than this unique experience. Edit: This is not a hotel. The tents have pull showers and press faucets with one temperature. I've seen the other reviews that complain about the amenities--so you should know that this is a "nice roughing it" experience. The staff was amazingly generous, offering us a Stargazer tent upgrade, a handwritten card, and they covered our dinner at the adjacent Bar & Restaurant at the ranch. Out of all the places we've stayed this past week... Ritz Carlton, The Lodge at Jackson Hole, a few Marriott's... this was by far the highlight of the trip. Beautiful ranch, unparalleled views, and truly upscale camping. We can't wait to explore their sister locations at other National Parks. read more

Beautiful, quiet, happy ranch that feels like a private slice of Yellowstone. This location has a large stream for fishing / swimming, ample room for biking, and is surrounded by distant mountains. The tents are comfortable and reasonably separated to you can maintain privacy. They might do well to make a section of the camp adults only, but I found the property large enough to make your experience whatever you like. Shower facilities and other communal areas are all well maintained, clean and well appointed. I really enjoyed the nightly fires and ability to easily socialize with other people at the camp. Overall, we look forward to coming back and really loved this beautiful setting! Quick tip: Try sites 9, 10 or 11 for max solitude. read more

To Under Canvas West Yellowstone, By far the greatest experience for my daughter and I. This place is magical and if you are looking for a disconnect and a reconnect, then this is your place. Staff were nothing short of amazing; my daughter and I are incredibly lucky to have come across some of the best group of young men and women in the hospitality industry. This is not quite glamming nor is it camping but it is the right mix of the two. If you are not in though with nature then this style of lodging is not for you. So please do not come with expectations of a hotel! However come with expectations of an in between hotel and camp ground. GLAMPING to the max!!! Loved loved loved it! It's pricey, but totally worth it! Great service! Everyone was friendly and helpful. The kids tent is sooo cute but I wouldn't let any kids under 10 sleep in there alone. It was perfect for our 21 and 14 year old. We got the tent with our own restroom, but the bath houses were great and since we had a big family, half of us used bath houses and the other half used the one shower in our tent. It was clean, water was hot! Pulling and holding on to the water string is annoying...but it guarantees that no one's shower is over 10 minutes!The lobby is great with drinks (water, tea & coffee) and cute games to play. It's a nice lounging area. S'mores is also great! The fire pits get crowded but we're nocturnal so we waited for everyone to leave and just enjoyed by ourselves. Don't forget to send free postcards! Our family had such a great time! Claire was our greeter and she was a sweetheart. Made sure we were settled in properly with all the info we needed. Clarke also helped us out. Gave great honest advice about navigating Yellowstone and getting us the supplies we needed. Olivia helped us with check-out and was also very helpful. read more

We visited Under Canvas in West Yellowstone to kick off our Honeymoon. What a waste of $500. We upgraded so we had a bathroom. We were only there 1 night and there was no hot water in the tent but otherwise it was fine. The staff were friendly but they were so understaffed and you could feel how stressed they were. The bar didn't open when they said it would, they ran out of s'mores, there was no hot water in the lobby every time we checked, the place looked like it was under construction, it was just an all around terrible experience. Great location but you'd be better off at a motel. For $500 a night, we expected the amenities that were promised to be available, and they were not. We were so disappointed. read more

Awesome "glamping" experience! As a girl who has been camping often, this offers many many advantages over typical camping experience. For one thing, the teepee-like tent is already set up, and the inside is pretty spacious with room for 2 fold-able chairs and a small table. The sleeping bags kept us warm, at some points, almost too warm. This is quite a feat given that temperatures drop below freezing at night. The bathrooms were pretty clean and there was a closet for towels, which I appreciated a lot. We had the chance to talk with some of the other campers over the nightly campfire, and there were ample stargazing opportunities. The Milky Way was astonishingly clear. The only downsides might stem from the location. It takes about an hour to get into the main loops in Yellowstone through the west entrance, though it's a beautiful drive. One other note: you have to take a dirt road to get into the campground, and there are a number of cows that graze nearby who sometimes wander onto it. I found this rather hilarious. read more

The restaurant was really underwhelming. They don't want you to bring in food to your campsite because of bears. There isn't cooking equipment for you to use. So, you would need to bring your own food, equipment and table to prepare dinner yourself. You don't park next to your tent. You have to walk about 100 yards to your tent. It's a pain to back everything to your tent. Bring a small bag for a change of clothes and basic bathroom items and just pack that to the tent. Leave your suitcase in the car. So, we were really looking forward to dinner. We checked out the upscale menu online. We were excited after a long day in the park. It's ran like a snack bar. You have to wait in line to place an order. For anything. A drink. Ketchup. Napkins. Water. Food. And you have to wait in this same line to get seated. So everyone is in this jammed up line in the entryway of the restaurant. It's just not a good look. They have a full bar with $100 bottles of wine. But, no one is going to bring that to your table. You will have to order it in the snack bar line. The food is ok. If it was bad, it would have been a pain to try to get it corrected. It's really not overpriced. It's better than what is offered inside the park. I would have played this differently. Sit at the bar and the bartender may give you better service. Or just eat in West Yellowstone before check in or go back to West Yellowstone for dinner and a better dinning experience. read more

Under Canvas called at 3:40 PM the day before our 3 night stay began to cancel. They did not care we had driven from San Diego and were already in Montana. Left us scrambling to find replacement accommodations with less the 24 hours notice. Asked to speak to their "executive team" who made the decision and was told no I could not. Asked for the names and contact info of the executive team and was told they would not give it to me. Worst experience ever. What was the compensation offered? A free nights stay if we ever come back. A definite avoid. Complete lack of customer service, sincerity and just plane poor business. read more
