We made a point of stopping here, since we had followed the story on Undercover Billionaire. We had Burnt Ends, and Pretzel Fries, and knew, immediately, that these folks know their barbecue. Additionally, my husband had the three meat platter, and I had a pulled pork sandwich. Everything was delicious, including the sides (baked beans, potato salad, and mac and cheese). The platter was loaded, and the pulled pork sandwich was a mountain of succulent, smokey goodness, piled on a quality bun, and all three sauces were delicious.You can really taste the bourbon in the peach bourbon sauce, and the regular sauce is sweet and tangy. The huckleberry habanero had a sweet heat that was outstanding. Well worth the price and the stop! read more

Went for dinner for first time tonight. Excellent food, ribs, brisket, pulled pork, mac and cheese, baked beans and corn bread. Food arrived quickly. Down sides of event, hostess seemed like he was lost trying to do his job. Waitress never came back to check on us until we were done. One of the cooks, got us take home boxes. read more

I have lived in Erie, PA my whole life and was a big fan of the show. My husband and I finally visited the restaurant. The parking lot was full. We ended up parking in the lot of a neighboring business. The restaurant was packed but they were able to seat us right away. Everyone was very nice and friendly. The service was fast with hardly any waiting time. The food for the most part was very good. The ribs were delicious. I agree with a previous review that the brisket was a little dry. Their bbq sauce was very good with just the right amount of sweet and spicy. We were lucky enough to meet the owner Glen Stearns and his wife who just flew into town that evening. He was very gracious and nice. They spent quite a while talking to us. Really made my night. read more

Amazing BBQ! It was worth the two hour drive for us just for the brisket cheese dip! That is an incredible recipe. Smoked deviled eggs are fantastic. The burnt ends are the best I have ever had. This place was amazing!!!! I love BBQ but do not cook it well. I love that the meat is cooked and brought out dry so you can season with your own choice of BBQ sauce. The appetizer brisket ends were mouth=watering and all the meat was so tender, it fell off the bone. And, the servings were generous enough that I had enough for 2 more meals. I chose potato salad and baked beans as sides. The potato salad was unremarkable but the baked beans were surprisingly good - not too sweet with a smoky undertone. We had never seen the show but found this restaurant after a morning at Presque Isle state park. We started with the Cajun-style pork belly burnt ends appetizer. The seasoning was more sweet than spicy and reminded us of Lays BBQ chips. The pork belly was tender and held the flavor well. We did a 3 meat platter with the brisket, pulled pork, and ribs, and the Mac and cheese and battered fries as sides. We also ordered additional green bean and cornbread sides. The meat was flavorful, moist, and smoky. The brisket was literally pull-apart-with-a-fork tender and the peach bourbon bbq sauce was our favorite on all of the meats and the battered fries and cornbread. The battered fries are the way to go, beautifully crispy and a perfect sauce conveyer. The Mac and cheese had a nice dry crust with a cheesy base and the green beans were delicious. No idea what it's cooked in, but perfectly seasoned to accompany the meats. We ended with a strawberry sundae cheesecake - flavor was excellent with real strawberries and the crunch strawberry ice cream bar topping, and the texture was moist and fluffy (if that's what you like compared to Cheesecake Factory's more dense style). Had 2 meat platter with ribs and brisket. Not too smoky which I like. The star of the meal was the appetizer I had. The burnt ends pork belly. Nice rub (they call is rust belt rub - maybe someone can explain why they call it that) deep fried crunchy outside and nice and meaty. Not dry at all. Try the peach BBQ sauce. They were sold out. Collard greens are exceptional and the green beans were very fresh and buttery. When I'm near here again this is my go to place. Got a really nice Underdog BBQ hoodie. Im pretty picky about my BBQ and will give Underdog a 4 star overall. Brisket was very good. Tender. Ribs not as much. Too much tug. Sauces are pretty food. Atmosphere wasn't great. While traveling to check out a business opportunity in North East we stopped in at Underdog since we had heard so much about this place. the sides were typical but nothing to cheer about, but the actual BBQ meat was underwhelming. First thoughts while tasting the pork was " i'm Chevy Chase and this is my Christmas Vacation meat. Recall the turkey that explodes open dry in the movie. We then had gross under- fatty burnt ends. The ribs were just OK. and would bet the farm leftovers . Quite Friendly folks here, but we were really disappointed given BBQ food. Usually you see a lot of love go into BBQ meats with special wood smoke flavors and unique rubs then finishing sauces. The meats here were treated like unwanted redheaded stepchildren. We paid our bill and about 1/2 hour down the road then we all have farts and loose bowels. Drove 90 mile an hour to a gas station and barely made it to the toilet. Two of our party threw up and a 4th not so lucky member of our group full on dukied his pants and we had to reschedule or business apportionment. I know the older meat we ate was the catalyst. By luck the gas station had pepto bismol and while purchasing we mentioned the cause and the man selling the Pepto to us laughed and said " Yah they got me to" Wont be back anytime soon read more

Full disclosure I stopped here because of the show...this was not worth the exit from I90...I started to call the restaurant after this take out catastrophe but am not sure they would have believed me, so here goes on a review that I will apologize up front is not a good one... As for my platter, I did not expect beef jerky as a stand in for the ribs...tell me these weren't the ones that won the great Erie Ribfest...so dry...the sauce would have been nice but the amount given to me could only spread out on half of the half rack...if you like Bush's baked beans then you will be in heaven...but someone please tell the cooks that the collard greens are not supposed to be more bitter after the cooking then before...just add a chunk of bacon and you will get something that has some southern flair...and for the cost of this platter you can spot me a piece of cornbread, not make it a side item... My better half's platter of pulled pork and brisket was just DRY...and again, not enough sauce to ever help it out...unfortunately for her, she had doubled up on the collard greens... The follow up episode that just happened needs to go back, send in people to test the food randomly and make sure you are really ready for the franchise opportunity.... This was my 3rd time visiting Underground BBQ and it'll most likely be my last. My husband and I were chasing the quality of food we purchased during our first visit, which was prior to the T.V. show being aired. Simply put the food quality has drastically dropped over the last 2 months. My husband and I both ordered 2 meat plates, My husband ordered the ribs and pulled pork with the mac & cheese and collard greens, I ordered the pulled pork and brisket with double fries for my side. So let me first comment on the service which was the worst this visit. The waitress was also bar tending and she simply didn't feel like working much, we had to go to the bar 3 times to get refills and sauces. The meals arrived fairly quickly but the food was only warm at best. Like the meat is under a heat lamp and that is all.... As for the quality of the food, I'd give it a 5 out of 10. My brisket was about 40% fat and so rubbery I couldn't chew it, the ribs my husband received were small and over cooked-these ribs surely did not win any type of rib fest award. The best thing about either of our plates was my French Fries. I should of retuned the food but it was a hassle getting the waitresses attention! So in closing it's safe to say that with the bit of popularity that the restaurant received with the airing of the show the food quality and service has dropped drastically (I'd give the restaurant a D- and a value for the restaurant at about $100,000, nowhere near Glenn's projected million). I was finally able to add the picture of brisket I got from here, so much fat and very little meat! read more

I ordered this premade steak and got it in one day. Plenty of meat for dinner for two or in my case three meals for one person. I took the time to look up how to reheat steak that is already cooked and that added to how nicely my meal turned out. Have lots of sauce left! read more

Let me start by saying my husband and I ate here a little over a year ago and it was dreadful. We decided to give it another shot last night for dinner and we are so glad we did. It made a 180. The food was hot and packed away nicely in to go containers. We both ordered the three meat plate and got ribs, pulled pork, brisket and two sides. We both got macaroni and cheese and potato salad. FANTASTIC! The ribs fell off the bone, the pork and brisket were super tender. Macaroni and cheese was fresh and really cheesy. The potato salad was made with red potatoes that were a mixture between smashed and cubed which I love. We also got corn bread and dessert and were pretty blown away. Corn bread was moist and had a sweet taste and the strawberry cheesecake and also really good. Bravo, Underdog! We can't wait to come back! read more

Pros: Great atmosphere (this place has a great style, gorgeous patio), server seemed knowledgeable and service was quick. Food wise, the beans, pulled pork, greens, cornbread and sauces were tops. The price was a little higher than Federal Hill, but Underdog had overhead with servers and I like that they're offering jobs. Cons: Smaller, less juicy meat portions than Federal Hill for higher price. I got three thin slices of (dry) brisket with my meal. Glad their sauces were good because it needed them. It was also underseasoned---I wanted some salt. The slaw, advertised as creamy slaw, was dry--the slaw sauce all sunk to the bottom and while the taste wasn't bad, there was nothing special about it. Mac and cheese was gritty. I assume this is because they use real cheese (awesome!), but something needs to be done to find balance. The Strange: 3/4 of our sides came in different sizes containers. The slaw in a 4 oz ramikin, beans in a glass cup, and mac in a french onion soup dish. My recommendation? Make these all the same. I hope management reads this! We plan to come back in a month and try again! read more

I understand that meat is expensive and when it's good there is a price that comes with it. That being said however, the prices here for what you get are outrageous... 1) $9 for (Qty: 5) burnt ends that are about 1" cubes... 2) A double meat lunch $16... not bad, but when the menu says a 3 bone rib and both of us got 2 bone and then the brisket is not only dry, but is sliced to about 1/4" thick and you only get 2 pieces. I was hopeful for a good BBQ place near me, but with the high prices, small portions and dry meat I don't see this lasting long. read more

I wanted to try the BBQ sauce (three choices in every table) and thought I'd have to sample it on the mac, but was delighted that the chef offered to make a jackfruit sandwich for my vegetarian appetite! Delicious! We had a 4 day weekend and decided to come here from Long Island NY. We watched the undercover billionaire and when it ended we said let's go so we did and I saw some reviews people weren't happy with the food but we definitely were. The atmosphere was hopping the decor was nicely done staff was friendly and we met the 2 guys from the show. We got the ribs, burnt ends and yummy mac n cheese all were delicious. Would definitely recommend to check it out if you live there or are visiting. We def would go back if we are around there. Oh yea I got the tee shirt also lol great job guys read more

Got take out from here about a week ago. The Mac n cheese, baked beans,and pulled pork nachos were very good. The bbq ribs were good but I believe there is much better in Erie. The sauces were very good. I really like the peach. Now for the bad part. The French fries were undercooked and cold (so I'm told). The wings were absolutely inedible!! They must have been cooked way too long. No meat just crispy skin on bone. Like eating dust. Both fries and wings went uneaten. Overall it was ok but better (and cheaper)choices in Erie won't have me coming back here at all. read more

Stop there for the first time last night. My wife ordered the burnt ends and I wanted to try their two meat dish. I ordered the rib and brisket comb with cole slaw and baked beans. Everything came out slightly above room temperature. The wife's burnt ends were dry and tough. My ribs were dried out and had the consistency of beef jerky. The brisket was overcooked and dry with no smoke ring. The only thing on my plate that was half descent was the baked beans. With two draft beers the bill was over $42. Amazing BBQ, a true front runner in the Erie area. Had the brisket and it was really tender, melted in my mouth. The other guys had the pulled pork and they said it was just as good. Burnt ends were spot on. This is one of the best spots for lunch now. Very affordable, awesome service, and great atmosphere. Can't wait to come here when I can have a couple drinks.
