A Disappointing Experience We have always enjoyed Madeline's, which is what makes this visit so disheartening to write about. My daughter and I both ordered the cod, and from the first bite something was clearly wrong. The fish had a strong, off-putting taste -- reminiscent of bleach or ammonia -- and neither of us could eat it. We told the assistant manager, who was apologetic and told us she would remove both meals from our bill. We trusted that and didn't push further, assuming it would be handled. The bill arrived with only $5 taken off. When I brought this back to the same assistant manager, we were told the most they could do was 10%. No explanation, no escalation, no offer of a replacement meal or even a gesture of goodwill while we sat there having eaten virtually nothing. We paid nearly $90 where one person in our family ate. The fish was inedible, a manager's word was not honored, and we left hungry. To be fair, our waitress was attentive and kind. The rest of our table enjoyed their meals without any complaints. I understand that kitchen mistakes happen -- that's not the issue. The issue is how it was handled. A simple follow-through on what was promised would have gone a long way. Instead, we left with a bad experience and, quite literally, a bad taste in our mouths. We definitely won't be making the 40 min drive again. read more

Just about everything could use improvement! Service was terrible and the food was at best just OK. Waited over an hour got out order , mine being the Prime rib After everyone else that came in after us got served my med rare prime rib was pretty much well done. I brought that to the servers attention and she stated that all the med rare cuts were gone.... Yeh only after our hour long wait for our order to arrive were they gone. This was the second time we went and waited forever for our order to arrive. Never will go there again.,,,,,never ever! Too bad the old Crowleys is gone. A relative recommended this restaurant so we decided to check it out. From the front it doesn't look like much then once you walk in there is a nice bar. Through the bar it opens up to a beautiful dining room which goes into another large room with big windows and a fireplace, over looking a pond with an outdoor area. We were fortunate enough to sit right by the window. Our waitress Shelly, who was very nice and helpful explaining the menu. She provided us with great recommendations. We got the pita chips and spinach dip, and the chips were awesome! I then decided to order the cheesesteak with onion rings and a side of NJ's sauce. All of it was really really good! My wife had the chicken salad sandwich with fries. She said it was excellent. If I am ever in the area I would definitely come back to this restaurant! read more

I always knew this place as "Crowley's Restaurant", so I didn't know what to expect from the new management. I was NOT disappointed!!! Even with a wedding outside, the front dining room and bar reserved for a private party and an influx of Homecoming kids with dinner reservations, we STILL found a quiet spot at the back bar overlooking the pond. And even with all of that going on, the service was unfaltering, courteous and fast. The staff worked together the way a good staff should - they all helped each other out to get through the rush. All the while, I kept sipping on Tito's & tonics and never missed a beat. The crowd grew quickly and the whole place was packed solid, and we STILL got our drinks and food quickly and always with a smile. The Old Bay Lobster and Shrimp Dip was unbelievably good! I especially love the wedges of bread served with it instead of chips...it gave an entirely different play and possibility on seafood dip that a lot of places seem to ignore. For my dinner, I had with the Beef & Beer Sandwich with a side of Roasted Red Potatoes. Outstanding food! The Beef & Beer is such an inventive twist on the same ol'-same ol' sandwich. So good! So good! Even with everything going and how crowded the place got, we had such a great time! It made for the perfect Saturday evening in every way! While visiting family, we thought we would try Madeline's. The inside was very cabin like, but nice. We were seated quickly, server was very nice. Service was quick once we ordered. We ordered the spinach/artichoke dip- it was delicious. We also ordered the Gorgonzola steak linguine and a Pittsburgh salad with steak. Everything was good. Steak was ordered well done, and it was perfect for my liking. While dining a man from the local lottery gave everyone tickets, that seemed weird, but maybe that is normal around here. Went for the first time since it became Madelines from Crowleys. Went for Sunday Bruch. They've done a nice job keeping the place looking good. Seems they've focused on events and there was one going on when we were there. They are in a separate room so there's no big impact on the regular dining room...OTHER THAN..the kitchen seems like it got backed up pretty good from the event. The brunch is surprisingly good. Decent selection includes pancakes, French toast bake, frittata, eggs, very good sausages, sausage grave (real good), fruit, salad. The biggest problem with the buffet?? NO LIGHTING. The area has a single very dim light. You can't even get a clear view of what you're taking. And from the people I saw there, there are a lot of elderly. I would think they would be doing a great service to their clientele by $20 and a few cents a day on electricity to help folks see the food. Our group also ordered soup. Real good. Burgers. Great! Nice thick burger, cooked well. Onion rings were burnt. All in all, a very good experience. Surprisingly good quality food at reasonable prices. Will definitely go back. Okay steak house but nothings special. Stopped by and thought I would try this location out. Had their special of the day the prime rib with house salad and roasted red potatoes. The salad was good more than just a iceberg lettuce salad. The crust of the prime rib was amazing however the meat itself was flavorless with the au ju as flavorless. It was like they didn't developed any flavor for the prime rib or the au ju. And the roasted red potatoes had a good sear but were undercooked in the middle. So the ambience is nice and maybe it was due to me being there at the start of the special however the the wait staff was moving in the back with the front just standing there. Ran out of my drink halfway thru meal and didn't see the waitress til the bill time. Might try again to give a chance but won't have my hopes up. read more

My wife & I dined here for the first time on Sun., 03.28.2021 at 5 p.m. We were given a friendly & prompt greeting then shown to our table. The atmosphere is "cozy country" with a gas fireplace & lots of natural woodwork. We were seated where we had a nice view of the grounds. Lisa S. was our server & did an excellent job throughout our visit. My wife had gluten-free cheddar bacon macaroni & cheese which she said was very good. I had the 12 oz. New York strip with mashed potatoes & cheddar bacon macaroni & cheese (non-GF). My food was good but not great. The price points are average/acceptable but I can understand the objections of those whose meals may frequently originate from the Country Fair 'dollar dog' rotisserie. I was cautious about trying this venue given several negative Yelp reviews regarding the timeliness of service but nearly all of them were quite dated & not recommended. However, we were one of only four parties served from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. It's my hope that guests on Fridays, Saturdays, & other peak times have the same attentive service we did. This is the worst place to eat. We hadn't been there in two years because of the service and food. We tried again and again the meals did not arrive all together and I NEVER received mine. This was the fourth time eating there over a few years that they did not bring my dinner was not made at all. The other people at the table was not impressed with their food either. We arrived around 6:30 on May 4th. We were greeted by a less than cheerful waitress going by that someone will be there shortly, which there was. The hostess sat us and gave us menus, but that was the last interaction we had with any of the staff. We sat there for 10 minutes and none of the other waitresses or staff would not even approach or make eye contact with us. After 10 minutes or so we got up and left. As we were leaving, there was a waitress leaning on the hostess stand chatting with hostess, she said have a nice night as we were leaving, then I informed her that no one ever waited on us. this was a tough night. two thin steaks were well done. they refired a new one for one which was fine after. the other was eaten and they removed it from the bill. service while nice and fun was very slow do to the kitchen, we think. so the servers were great but hampered by the back of the house. they were out of prime rib and other stuff without notice on the web site or on the door. surprise! one of us came just for that. on the upside, the place was nice. this was the first time we've been in since crowleys closed. i'd have an event here. read more

This was our first time eating here since the new owners took over. The service was excellent. Only had to wait 10 minutes for a seat on a busy Saturday. Our server was top notch. Madeline's is rustic venue a bit out of the way. Definitely not a chain spot. Dining room overlooks a lake so it a beautiful view. There was a bridal rehearsal going on while we were there. I wanted to come back the next night to see the wedding. My Fig & Pig sandwich was good. Smoked ham, pork loin, Brie cheese, chunky apples, & fig jam on a ciabatta roll. Kind of a German slant on a Cuban sandwich. I chose cole slaw as my side. The cole slaw was the kind I prefer... rustic not creamy. I would definitely have it again. My dining mates had Lasagna, Salmon, Prime Rib and Cod. Lasagna looked awesome. The other 3 got OK reviews. My suggestions would be to serve bread with the meals....especially the lasagna. I am not one to normally leave reviews, but I have to applaud excellence. My daughter had her wedding reception at Madeline's this past weekend, and they were amazing. The food was great, the service fantastic and quick and the staff was phenomenal and friendly. The location is pretty great, too. The manager, Jessica, was responsive to questions and crucial to a smooth operation. I don't think it could have gone any better. Highly recommend them for this type of function and I thank them for all the effort they made to make it a special day. read more

Went there with family for mother's day and they were only serving a limited menu. There was no kids menu for my son to choose a meal from. I guess my son was supposed to eat a $25 steak with sides that he normally wouldn't eat. Definitely won't be returning. read more

Only 3 min from I-90 off the Girard/Platea exit. Absolutely beautiful dining room. Family friendly (I took 3 kids aged 11,7,4). Reasonably priced, lots of variety on the kids menu. Adult menu had a lot of creative options, felt like high end at the price of a family restaurant. Had the steak Gorgonzola and it was excellent. Kids ate everything (not a common thing). Good service. Definitely recommend for date night or family night out. read more

We have given the new ownership 5 chances. We were there today. Service was perfect ( Taylor ). Food was good but you get about half an order. And we are not big eaters / buffett folks. Previously, we were there for father's day with our friends. They were taking reservations but, "only for 5 or more people." It was stated that we would not have to wait. Got there and told it would be 20 minutes. Turned into 40 minutes which FINALLY turned into an HOUR. Shoulda' just got drunk and went to a McDonald's ? We did FINALLY get seated. Took a half hour for our food. People who came in AFTER us were getting theirs before we did ! ! I should mention that we all wanted prime rib. Guess what the hell they were OUT OF ? Even though we were friendly / cordial to our waitress, she seemed to make herself INVISIBLE. It was a bad situation. Loud drunks too. My wife and I do NOT mind high prices, in dining out. With this "joint" they want top buck and give you kids portions. Example today ? I got a half a corned beef / reuben for $12, w/ fries. My wife got a 1/3 of a fish filet on a bun - again, $12. And this is a small LUNCH. McDonald's fish is bigger for $4.75. Guess we need to go THERE. We sure do miss Charles and Ginger Allen who owned it as Crowley's. They are / were great folks. I think those, in PA, who dine out are weird, rude, and ignorant too. All done here, and with Madeline's. Sad. VERY sad situation. read more

You know how sometimes the entree you've selected just doesn't taste good... well that happened to me but despite that, I'm still giving Madeline's 5 stars. With the exception of 1 main dish, everything and everyone was excellent. The chef felt so bad and I couldn't even articulate the taste. Chef went over and above on offering me another dish and taking off more from the bill than the entree cost. The apple BBQ awesome; the lobster dip incredible, the Brussel sprouts were perfect. Stopped in when we were passing through town on a Saturday night. Meal was great. Craft beer selection AMAZING! I had the half rack ribs and boyfriend had the perch. I wanted to try the Pig &Fig sandwich- next time- because it sounded delicious and unique. The bar had an exceptional selection of beer s and upscale liquor. The food was presented very well and the quality of the fish was over the top. Great meal. Not a good meal a great meal! I stopped by Madeline's last Saturday for a quick bite to eat while I was back in town. I was initially impressed by the attention to detail that went into their remodel and the clean and updated yet classic and rustic look they were able to achieve. I ordered the porto "steaks" and the roasted brussel sprouts. Both were delicious. The portobello was cooked perfectly and the gorgonzola and creamed spinach sauce/side was so good I could have just eaten a bowl of the stuff!
