Our last night in Dahlonega, we decided to try Underground. So glad we did! The selection of street food all sounded delightful but we settled on the Birria tacos and pierogis. Excellent food, the food had some surprisingly delicious pairings and or presentations ie, a Crustible style sandwich (like the one we serve to kids but elevated) we were told a pastry chef comes in daily. Great selection of bourbons and beer. The staff were very friendly. (We were asked several time how our experience was) We are visiting friends who live in the area and they told us it is one of their favorite places to eat. Had a small cockroach on my napkin. Bartender was less than concerned, flicked the bug off, got me a new napkin. Manager stood close by. No apology, no effort to try to make it right. Was never checked on after we received our food. Shouldn't have eaten it after seeing the bug but we're definitely turned off by the service and lack of concern. read more

What a great addition for Dahlonega. Loved the food, atmosphere, service. Nice bar on the inside and cool covered patio outside with heaters. Really enjoyed the birria tacos and the chicken kefta. I was in Dahlonega with a couple of work coworkers. One said they had heard of a new place. They wanted to try. I'm sure glad we did! Really cool restaurant bar in downtown Dahlonega. They have a really nice outdoor patio area. Service was excellent. The food is definitely the star of the show we all got appetizers. I got the chorizo empanadas and the risotto balls. Everything came out hot fresh and super tasty. A table next to us got the French bread pizza, they they looked really good! A great place to eat in Dahlonega. Lots of unique options on the menu. Overall food is good. Not much for picky eaters/vegetarians/gluten-free. Menu is very small print and hard to read, did not include a space for sides, dressings, or beverage options. Server was super nice and friendly. She didn't mind one bit to grab whatever we needed, answer any questions about the menu, or grab refills. From the dining room we could hear the kitchen staff conversations talking loudly/yelling. Tried this restaurant today for the first and last time. With the upscale choices along with normal fair I thought it was a good choice. Ooooops! Dirty silverware was not inviting to start. Birria tacos were so dry the meat was hard to the touch and the consume was more like thick gravy. See pictures. I asked waitress what was popular and went with her recommendation. Excellent restaurant in the heart of downtown Dahlonega. Our server and bar tender were very attentive. There wasn't any drink options on the menu that I cared to try so the bar tender made me a delicious old fashion. We started our meal with the crab puppies, my daughter had shrimp with rice and I had the crab cake and rice. We finished it off with warm fluffy beignets. We were in town for a wedding and if for some reason we go back to this cute little town then this place will be first on the list. Kudos to the owner(s) chef and their service staff! read more

Wow! Very cool menu, definitely not your typical bar and grille. Nick was our server, fantastic service and had great recommendations. I asked him to select something that he would want for lunch and he did not disappoint. The Pork Belly Steam buns were everything and more. The bun was freshly made and fluffy. I asked too many times for a cocktail. The people at my table were finished with their cocktail while I'm still waiting on mine. A complementary cocktail was sent to us by the owner who was in a fabulous euphoric mood; then we were charged $14 + for it anyway . The friend I was with was ignored; I assume it's because he was black , but I was too, because the two waitresses spent the entire time digging through the trashcan in the back while I'm waiting on one of them to show up at my table . I called before going to verify that I'd be able to get dinner and they told me they had full kitchen until 11 PM which was not true; it was a lie, kitchen closed at 10; I had spent hours looking forward to a steak but I was one minute too late having arrived at 10. And then when I go to pay, I was told they could not accept my cash. I would have appreciated it if I were told this before I ordered.. . Was told that maybe I could find somebody else in the bar to give them cash to get them to pay for my meal instead ; and how screwed up is that ? For the money I spent it wasn't worth it; too expensive and unmanaged. This place needs a grown-up in charge and should leave the kids out of it. This restaurant was suggested to us from a local shop owner and wow! We were so happy we tried it! The food was fantastic! The outdoor patio was so comfortable! The service was a little slow but the food was totally worth the wait! I ordered the Brria Tacos (5 comes with the plate) while my husband ordered Arayes lamb Stuffed Pitas (3 comes with the plate). The dishes are one-dish plates meant to be shared which is what we did. The flavor of both was phenomenal! We had leftovers and ate them later. Our server was great! I had high hopes for this restaurant was very disappointed. While the staff and our server were nice, they shared that a few menu items weren't available (almost half of the appetizers). When my meal came, the chicken skewers were a bit fatty and the side item (a special tomato salad that uniquely paired with the Indian dish) was missing. When I asked about the salad, they said "sorry, we are out of that too!" This was late December and very busy season for Dahlonega so it was surprising how many menu items were not available during a peak tourism month. read more

The bar staff needs to learn what Customer Service really means. Sat at the bar and both bartenders completely ignored us for 10 minutes. Never even made eye contact. Instead they looked at their schedules in a book and fawned over a couple sitting near us. When we left without ever being served no one ever acknowledged we were even there. We found out later that evening this place has a reputation for not catering to new comers. Hope that philosophy helps them when the regulars get tired of sub par service. It's a nice-looking place, but it was nearly empty at supper time. That was the first warning sign. Odd menu, which is not a bad thing. The chicken i ordered was so overmarinated, that was all you could taste. I think it must have been frozen and microwaved thawed out. I ate about 1/4 of it and decided i would rather be hungry. My friends' meal came with undercooked gooey french fries and he only ate about 1/2 before he gave up. The service was slow, and we had to ask for our check after waiting for someone to check on us. This place is SUPER cute very rustic and loved the live music ! The food is very good and delicious it's creative and I recommend the filet with the delicious sauce! What an unexpected delight! Wandering around Downtown Dahlonega, I happened into Underground. And let me tell you, it was one of the best experiences I've had at a bar in years. Here's why: First, the vibe is spot on. Cool decor, muted lighting, indoor/outdoor seating options, and a handsome bar set up (accented by a good looking group of bartenders that immediately make you feel at home.) Live music sets the tone and the energy is high. When the whole joint is singing along with the band,, you know it's something hot. The food is the biggest surprise. One can't imagine a more varied menu. While Tex-Mex seems prevalent (Empanadas, Birria Tacos, and queso on lots of things), Asian influenced dishes and an occasional Italian favorite (Atancini) are also on the menu. Wings and French Bread Pizzas are found along Chilean Sea Bass and Wagyu beef. Lastly, the service was simply great, with highly engaged bartenders like Vivian and Kloee taking good care of you. In short, Underground is a breath of fresh air and a welcome addition to the Downtown dining scene. read more

First of all, I work on the square part time so I'm pretty familiar with all our restaurants. I'm quite often asked by customers/visitors for recommendations. I will now add Underground to my list! The place is beautiful with a huge covered outdoor patio and 2 bars! We sat in the smaller quiet bar off the patio. Loved the ambiance! My husband got the French bread pizza, very good! I got the Arayas, which is Mediterranean meat stuffed baked pitas. It is a memory of my favorite Lebanese restaurant in my hometown. It was very good, however; no need to drizzle (balsamic??) over the pitas. It is meant to be eaten with your hands. The pitas were soggy as a result and had to be eaten with a fork and knife. Next time I'll ask them to skip the drizzle and yes, we will be back!! read more

Cool spot but should stay opened later to cater more to the UNG college Thursday night crowd! All these downtown Dahlonega bars are missing out on great opportunities to provide a lucrative and lively experience by being so close to the college but not taking advantage of it. A DJ or fun band on a Thursday night until 1:00 am at least would do wonders! Students could walk and not worry about driving. I just don't understand why more places are not providing these fun opportunities for college students In Dahlonega one night a week at least! read more

We were SO impressed with Underground that we had to go twice during our weekend visit to the wineries. The ambiance is excellent, the staff as well as one of the young owners we met are super friendly, they menu is diverse, & the food we had both nights was excellent (found out their chef/part owner was the former head chef of Montaluce, as well as a personal chef for some "wealthy" people). To top it off both nights we went there was live (& really good) music. We will definitely look forward to going there again anytime we are in the area! read more

I've lived on this planet for awhile, but I dealt with a first when I visited this place. When you google this establishment, a website comes up with the opportunity to make a reservation. We did so. We get to the restaurant and are advised that the website is incorrectly linked to the restaurant and is actually for a restaurant in Canada, and that somehow management in Dahlonega has not been able to straighten it out with Google. And despite this gross oversight, no accommodations were made to seat the people who were bamboozled by this website with haste. Very sad and they need to fix this ASAP or they will lose SO MUCH business. read more

LOVE this place! Been twice and had a great experience both nights. Food was great, vibe is great. Went on the weekend and there was a live band. This is exactly what Dahlonega needed.
