I was really looking forward to trying this restaurant after hearing so many good things, and as a fan of historic homes, I was excited to see how they utilized the space. Unfortunately, the ambiance fell short of expectations. The charm of the outdoor seating area is overshadowed by plastic shielding, and the interior is dominated by a poorly placed bar decorated in Hawaiian luau décor--an odd choice just two weeks before Thanksgiving. That said, the bartender was charismatic and friendly, though clearly stretched too thin, which led to slower service. The menu itself was a bit underwhelming, but everything I sampled was enjoyable. I especially recommend the wine flights; the selections of Spanish wines were excellent. Overall, I get the sense that this spot shines more in warm weather. We went for the restaurant weeks to check this out (1st time). The service was nice, we had expected the 'menu' to be a nice deal but it wasn't, so I got the menu w/ tapas, entree and dessert $38. We both were hungry for Chicken Piccata so got 2 of those. Unfortunately the Chicken Piccata had no sauce on it ! Too strange, so we were not pleased and will never order that again. The cheese cake was wonderful but waitress said it's not normally on the menu (but Flan is and she said it was similar - so we'll try it next visit). They had several deals on the menu like $7 Tapas for happy hour (but not what the hours are) so think this will be a good place for drinks and tapas. Found this little gem tucked away in Roswell. The tapas was amazing. My favorites were the dates and the artichoke dish, although everything we had was good. The service was outstanding! The atmosphere was fine. While what some reviews say that it is better in warmer weather is probably true, that's no reason to not go and enjoy the wonderful food! Took my wife here for Valentine's Day since it's one of our favorites. They are under new ownership and for some reason the vibe just wasn't quite the same, maybe it's because of the time of year or it could have just been me this time. We typically go in the spring and summer time and the place was always popping. BUT, the food was delicious and the overall experience was good. I brought my family here for some tapas and paella. It's a really cute place with some indoor and lots of outdoor seating. It was a bit cold, but they had the heaters on for outside. We started with some drinks - the espresso martini was my favorite. Paella takes a while to cook, so be sure to put that order in first if you want Paella. We also got some tapas. TAPAS Patatas Bravas - not as crunchy as J usually like, but the sauce had a nice spice to it Octopus - one of my favorites! The octopus was cooked perfectly and the potatoes and olive oil are a really simple, but delicious combination Gambas Ajillo - nice garlic spice, but I also with there would have been a little more. I cant remember what the tapas with simple bread and meat are called but they were good as well. PAELLA We got the full Paella portion which was great for our table of 5. There was a lot of seafood, rice was cooked perfectly and it had great flavor! We finished with dessert. My favorite was the cheesecake! Quaint setting off the busy main street of Roswell. The food is a very good, tapas restaurant. They specialize in paella . They have 3 different varieties and a small and large of each. Very good charcuterie board, outstanding sausages , good cheeses, it comes with a basket of fresh hot bread with an amazing garlic aïoli. Very good smoked old fashioned, but wait, made with a Spanish rum that you would not know it's not a bourbon. Located in Downtown Roswell, this hidden gem is the best Spaniard restaurant in the state. EVERYTHING is phenomenal here. This is our fourth time with my husband and the service and food stays consistently great. It's THE BEST mixta paella in Georgia. They have a full bar. They have a sangria flight in case you want to try all three. BUT they have a cava sangria that is AMAZING. You can only get the pitcher, and it'll easily serve 4 to 5 drinks. They add cava and some brandy, you'll be a little buzzed afterwards but so happy. If you decide to park directly in front of the restaurant you will have to pay through the app. I paid 5 dollars for about 3 hours. There is a free parking lot around the corner though. This is a great place to meet friends for dinner, bring people from out of town or a date. read more

The first 2 times I had the shrimp and a meat plate with Spanish ham etc! Both times it was pretty bad! The third time just I had Spanish beer because I don't give a restaurant 3 chances for food! I had spent a semester in Madrid when I was in college, so I decided to check out this hidden gem near Canton Street in historic Roswell. I decided to order two of my favorites tapas, Tortilla Española and Patatas Bravas. I've tried these small plates in many restaurants in the US, and none of them compare to the real cuisine in Spain. The Tortilla Esapñola here didn't exactly look like our taste like the dishes I ate in Spain, nevertheless it was really good. The tortilla tasted super hot and very fresh. It was made with multiple thin layers of potato, egg and tortilla. It's definitely not like the ones I have eaten in the past, but it was delicious and quite memorable. The Patatas Bravas we're not as good. First, the curled, seasoned wedges of potato didn't resemble the dish in Spain in any ways. They look like a trendy or stylish rendition of a classic dish. The menu described the tomato sauce as hot, meaning spicy. I asked the server how spicy the sauce was. He said it wasn't very spicy but suggested having the sauce on the side. I guess I'm a wimp when it comes to spice because it was a little too spicy for me. I remember the red sauce being more savory than spicy. The white sauce, a garlic and parsley aioli, complimented the potatoes well. It's typically served on the side with the red sauce on top of the potatoes. Dak, the server, was friendly and fairly attentive but it was a little harder to get his attention near the end as the patio became busier. So, the place is cool and has a good vibe. They have Spanish music playing in the background. I enjoyed hearing the Gipsy Kings and other flamenco styled songs. I'd definitely come back for more Spanish Tortilla, but I wouldn't order the Patatas Bravas again. Was getting my hair done next door and came in here at 9 pm assuming I was out of luck. Nope. This quaint Spanish tapas restaurant and bar welcomed me in and helped me find what my "I love Mexican food" mind would like. This was awesome! Wanted a bite not a huge meal this late in the evening. If the Madrid Spanish Taverna is closed for siesta when you arrive, definitely wait! It is worth it! The live music outside on the patio with dancers made our meal especially festive. The tapas options were plentiful, as were the gluten free options. I love that the mark GF options directly on the menu. We enjoyed two specialty drinks - the strawberry fields mule a sunny orange drink. The pulpo (octopus) was the best I ever had, and the Tabla de Jamon Iberico was super high quality and amazingly delicious! Our Sunday brunch turned out egg-strodinary! Everything from the sensational smoked salmon Benedict, fantastic Flamenco Spanish Breakfast with Chistorra sausage, warm cornbread waffle, cool Queso de Cabra, stellar sangria flight and perfect pina colada, all came together beautifully with authentic Spanish flare. Plus, you have to sit on their expansive outdoor patio on a nice sunny day! What we had: the Queso de Cabra is a tangy goat cheese paired with a sweet fig jam and crunchy bread for a delicious sweet, tangy, sweet, and crunchy bite. Vegetarian option! Then, the Smoked Salmon Benny is savory and salty with a tangy, and creamy dreamy aioli. All on a rye bread for a little extra flavor. Pro tip: make into a sandwich for easy eating!! Plus, the Cornbread pancakes are amazing! Cornbread batter with crunchy corn mixed into the waffle and juxtaposes the warm syrup and creamy butter. Yum. On the traditional side, we also got the Flamenco Spanish Breakfast. Traditional meat, egg and potato dish with Spanish-inspired flavors. We got the Chistorra which is a spicy sausage that really added flavor to the plate and the sauce for the potatoes was stellar with a definite kick. Was it all down with a Sangria flight: get to try them all! White Sangria is tangy with hints of pineapple and OJ. The Rose Sangria is heavier with a ton of passion fruit flavor and the Red Sangria is juicier with same hints of orange juice and pineapple. MUST TRY: Now that's a pina colada! Pros: cute location, valet parking of which you're supposed to get your money back if you spend over $25 (I'll expand later), staff are all very kind. Cons: parking scam...the attendant (no fault of his he was actually really nice). You pay $5 and if you spend over $25 the restaurant gives you $5 off the meal. That actually never happened. Waitress gave me my bill there was nothing off...she brought back another receipt same price. Then she showed me something on her handheld showing $5 off but it wasn't even my bill. The food was just okay...Spanish cuisine isn't really my scene so this may just be a personal choice. I ordered a drink that was terrible the bartender said she would take it away and give me something else. I get the bill with both drinks on there. I wish she would've told me I would be charged for both otherwise I could've kept my nasty drink or also been content with paying for two. She said she "asked the a manager". I'm sure she just took two lapse around the bar and told me there was nothing she could do about it. I will not ever be back not worth the $51 I paid. And all I got was what is pictured below. We stopped in early one afternoon and we're served by the owner. The food was delicious and her recommendations did not disappoint. We had a few cocktails, a tabla, montados, a paella, croquetas, and dessert. Everything was remarkable and flavorful. If you are looking for a nice tapas restaurants look no further. Made two visits on back to back days. Both were very different. Visit one at the bar was great. Got the shrimp tapas plate and a ground beef wrapped pepper. Both of these were great and the drinks at the bar were great. 5 star visit. Day two, the drinks were not up to snuff and we got the prawn dish with rice and the story on that was completely different, they used imitation crab, the prawns were way over cooked and we all felt the drinks were not right. 2 star visit. After evening #1 I was ready to come back but I'm not sure I would based on evening #2. Will update if we decide to go back, because the patio area really is beautiful. Would give zero stars if I could. Based on other recent reviews we may have lucked out in not getting to eat here. I can only comment on the reservation and staff experience upon arrival. Table of 11 ladies on Saturday night with a 7:30pm reservation. Many emails exchanged over the reservation with management. We asked for 11 people at 7:30 and were confirmed 11 people at 7, emailed again correcting to 7:30. We did arrive 10 minutes late at 7:40 (due to cashing out next door at Deep Roots from our pre dinner drinks). Upon arrival and lots of confused looks from the staff, Maria (manager?) arrives and informs us that our table was given away. Apparently there is a 10 minute late policy. No mention of that before. There was no attempt to reach anyone before giving away the table. No politeness. No attempt to accommodate our group. Just blatant rudeness from Maria leaving even her staff to look embarrassed on our behalf. Looking around there was no where for us to sit anyway. Cramped restaurant with barely any indoor space. Outside is a hodgepodge of small bistro tables that did not look comfortable at all. I am really not even sure where a table of 11 would have been seated. We probably dodged a bullet with our mishandled reservation. Thankfully we were able to walk directly across the street, be accommodated as a walk in and treated with awesome service by a neighboring business. My two cents .... Skip this place and go elsewhere. The rudeness of management alone sets the tone for the entire establishment. What should have been a wonderful evening turned into a fiasco We wished to repay friends for giving us tickets to a New York theater production in Atlanta and asked them where they wished to dine. Looking for something different, they selected Madrid, a Spanish Taverna located off Canton Street in Roswell. My wife called early in the week making reservations for a party of six to guarantee that the restaurant could accommodate us. Upon arrival, we were ushered out to a gazebo with a wooden park bench, wrought iron tables for two with matching chairs without cushions even. Although the gazebo had plastic surrounding it with a zipper entrance, it was 37 degrees on this particular evening and not-with-standing the heater, it was still freezing. We asked to be seated indoors but were told that there were only tables for four available. They would try to accommodate us but we would have to wait an hour. We really couldn't leave and go elsewhere because 8:00 PM on a Saturday evening is a prime dining hour and we wouldn't have been able to gain a table elsewhere. We were finally squeezed around a table for four located in a corner between the rear entrance door and the door to the kitchen. A member of our party was disabled with a walker and it was extremely difficult for her to maneuver into her seat. When we asked the owner to explain the outdoor seating during the current weather, her response was, "Sorry." "Our indoor seating normally accommodates four." We were not advised of this in advance when reservations were made. We ordered four kinds of tapas (serrano ham, Manchego cheese and eggplant, Spanish dates wrapped in Serrano ham, and Piquillos Rellenos) along with our drinks. The wait staff constantly ignored us and Larry had to get out of his chair to chase down our server. After our hors d'ouvres (tapas plates), we proceeded to order our mains. Everyone chose to go with various paellas. Greg ordered the Carne - Valencian rice, salted pork, bacon, chicken, and chistorra (a fast-cured sausage from Aragon), and saffron. Larry chose the Mixed Paella which was a combination of both meat and seafood with the same ingredients. I chose the Marisco - seafood paella with shrimp calamari, clams, green pimenton (a type of pepper), mussels, red pepper, and saffron. All three dishes came out dry as they had been under the broiler too long. This was not the moist, aromatic, and tasty with fresh ingredients Paella Valenciano that we remembered from our recent trip to Spain with Greg and his wife. The meal ended with a shared flan that was made with coconut flavoring that gave it a weird taste. It was more of a custard than a flan and was not our "cup of tea." There was inconsideration all around and at no point did the owner offer to comp us for anything in response to the lack of facilities to properly host us under current weather conditions. It's a very welcoming place that is well run and has a lot of promise - I can see it from the owners - who are present, care, and are on top of things. Some thoughts here Location - it's a surprise and a good one - it's right off Canton street in a cool little complex. The back patio is magic - you sit out there at dusk, with a vibrant crowd, listening to some music - there is a little street and across sits Vin 25, and next door a wine store - don't want to be so dramatic - but it feels like you are somewhere else - away from hustle and bustle. It's nice, relaxed, fun, and a good crowd. Service - VERY good. Again, you can always tell a good owner - it starts there. They are present, walking around, making sure things are OK. Our server (Seriously - when he's not serving at Madrid, he is on Stranger Things as the Billy character :) - looks just like him).....He knew the menu and drinks. They have a selection of spanish reds, some whites and rose. Sangria is the thing. I have to be honest - I didn't love the Tempranillo I had - it was super dry and warm....and the sangria was OK. But the cocktails were awesome. So Fresh So Cool is my new favorite. Anyway - that's my preference, but it seemed people were enjoying. The food was excellent. We got 5 tapas plates - Patatas Bravas (OK - pretty good, spicy), Octopus/Potatoes - very good - flavorful.
