Uh oh... After…read morespending more than $15000 to have a new, metal, insulated garage door put in, we've reason to wonder if we made a bad mistake. Everywhere else we go in any of 4 vehicles, we can open garage doors from as far away as 1/4 of a mile; the same applies to gate security devices. This brand new garage door motor and master control unit won't open the door from any of the four vehicles parked outside in the driveway, 4 feet from the master control unit. Each of the technicians who has come here to troubleshoot the system have literally worn out the door-opening units in our vehicles, repeatedly blaming the vehicles. Blaming our vehicles? The vehicle is too old. No. One of the vehicles was purchased a week before the new garage door was installed, and its door opener works at three different houses and five security fares. The vehicles have an incompatible type of garage door opening software/hardware. No. One of the houses we go to has a newer master control unit built by the same company. Bravo Sierra. We were also sold numerous exterior and interior security cameras : half of the outdoor cameras refuse to work more than momentarily. We spent $700 to obtain what should have been the hardware fix for this problem, but guess what? Our hardware is the problem: a little research has shown that the manufacturer withdrew this model of camera 3 1/2 years ago, so I guess A1 Garage Door had to clean out their stocks... Worse yet, the AI receptionist reports that the company does not service these cameras which they sold to us and installed recently. What wasn't revealed until A F T E R we signed and paid for the contract was that we have to pay $62/month for software and services to run those very same cameras. No mention of it before, verbally or in writing. No disclosure whatsoever. Caveat Emptor. Let the buyer beware. A few very good technicians. Some very good products. But now that the question about company integrity has been answered... .

When it was time to get a pro involved I reached out to Zero Fox, along with a handful of other local businesses. Several companies responded quickly and seemed eager to get my business, but Zero Fox was the only one to demonstrate an understanding of the specific problems at hand. I have a general mistrust in big businesses and salesmen who unnecessarily upsell you or recommend replacing serviceable components to take advantage of their non-expert customers and pad profits. Zero Fox was the only business who seemed to actually read the diagnostic information I had collected and reported while working on the system myself. Emilio listened to me and thoroughly investigated our system and components. before recommending action. He clearly and patiently explained what he was seeing and how he thought things would play out in the long term with and without intervention. It was clear that he understood the system components and how they function together holistically. It was also clear he was really trying to work with us toward an ideal long-term solution and not just take our money. As I suspected, the motor unit was at the end of its life. We scheduled time for Emilio to come back the next day and install a new one. He had not yet taken any payment, but when he left that day he had already tuned up our door significantly so that it was opening and closing more smoothly (I had been manually opening it for a few days after the motor unit began failing). He made sure that the door, hinges, rollers, tracks, and spring were clean and functioning better so they wouldn't put unnecessary strain and wear on the new motor.
