Weird experience at Uniboil today. Was seated quickly as it wasn't busy. Quickly ordered via QR code then waited and waited and waited some more. Flagged down the one server in the place and he said the food is coming right up. Waited and waited some more. Finally rang the table bell and the same server came out to inform us that the kitchen was super busy and we have the option of canceling the order and leave. When I asked how long is the wait, I was told 10min. We decided to wait but then the food came out in 5 min or so. Not sure if the kitchen simply forgot to fire the ticket or something else was going on. The beef noodle soup looked excellent and meat was tender. However it was quite salty. The tomato udon soup was quit good. Price is ok for what you get. Hopefully this experience is out of the norm for the place. read more

The food is nothing to brag about and if you don't mind sipping your soup with a plastic coffee spoon (because they ran out of spoon), or no greeting or services (because there's one table runner and one clean up worker), no sauces or spices. Our first time eating here and went for dinner. The reviews in Yelp and Google Maps were very good. It is a casual restaurant. There is a barcode on the table where we scanned the menu. It was easy to order and the online app had pictures & descriptions. I had the Universal Seafood hot soup and my husband had the Curry Fishball soup. The soups came piping hot and big portion. Decided to try this place out while I was in town. I'm so happy that I did. It was so good!! I highly recommend it! It's mini, so I would recommend to order your own entree unless you don't eat much, then share it! You would need to wait a few minutes for the meat to cook because they bring it out raw, but we didnt mind. It was fairly quick. The food here is phenomenal. Coming from Rowland heights and 626 area, I've had a fair share of hot pots in my life. I've never been to the uniboil in any other location, but I will soon. I ordered the G2, it's the kimchi soup. It came with a lot of cabbage, meat and ramen and a few others I can't remember. They give a lot of meat with the soup too. The portions are huge and delicious. The only thing I have to say that needs improvement is the service. Service was nice and friendly but not attentive. The restaurant has a button at the end of the table you press if you need something. I feel like the employees just rely on that button to give service. They won't check up on you unless you press the button. But other than that, I have no complaints. read more

Had a nice experience here. Great food and great service. The menu offers so many choices. I ordered from the mini hotpot selection, picked Szechuan Pepper Number Hot Soup, love its soup base, all the vege and meat included absorbed the broth so well, especially the cabbage, which tasted very rich after boiling for a few minutes, and the crispy texture of the lotus root was a plus. The restaurant also connects to a boba tea shop, a nice place to study or hang out with friends, and the fruit tea I ordered there was delicious and refreshing, highly recommend going with the hot pot! I've eaten here a few times and I do really like their food! However, there's reasons why it's a 3 star rating in my book. There was a Uniboil in my hometown, but I never bothered to try it until they opened in Goleta. The uniboil back in my hometown also made it a 2 concept store with Phresh Teas as well. I've tried their Sichuan spicy broth and healthy tomato, both are solid. I personally pick beef as my meat. Popcorn chicken is the best in SB!! Tastes how it's supposed to be, but over priced at $7 for a basket. Esp since chicken thigh is a really cheap cut of meat! Issues with the store: My 1st visit, I came with my boyfriend and they ran out of popcorn chicken at 5pm....we did end up trying their drinks, also known as Phresh Teas. My gripe is that they don't add enough toppings in their drinks when it's a 50 cent upcharge. There was literally only an inch sized layer of topping. I ordered a Hokkaido milk tea, 1/2 sweet and I saw that it was powdered, so nothing special. However, even at 1/2 sugar it was still really sweet as if it was regular sugar. It's probably because of the Hokkaido flavored powder containing sugar already. This is coming from someone who grew up in the 626 and got boba everyday after high school! My bf got the fruit tea, which is good and what I've had before in the 626. Got lychee jelly, but was the same one inch amount inside. Personally I'd prefer chopped fruits than whole though, since it means less of the tea! The chunks are huge and you can only really eat the watermelon spear inside. It's usually lime, lemon, orange, and watermelon, but I'd suggest they mix up other fruit combos as well. 2nd visit, I came with friends and there was plenty of seating. We wanted to sit in against the wall where there was a cushioned bench on one side, but we were told to wait for a table with all chairs. Took over 10 mins to set up one table even though the store wasn't even busy.. The girl wiped the table clean but it was still soaking wet and my friend made a remark about it and the employee just said "oh it means it's clean!" I felt that she didn't piece it together that she needed to grab a dry towel to wipe it...so we did end up eating at the table while it was still wet. 3rd visit, I came with friends who were fans of uniboil back in Monterey Park. We ordered and one of my friends wanted the korean army stew, but substitute pork with beef. The manager said we couldn't do that, but my friend stated that the other uniboil she's a regular at are ok with it. The manager said she needed to talk to the other owners if it's allowed, but I don't see why a simple meat swap would be such a big deal. Anyways, she did end up giving a side of beef on the house, but the restaurant could have saved $$ by just substituting? we were confused, but at least we got extra meat?....haha Anyways, I am glad that more authentic asian businesses are coming in, and as mentioned I like their food here, but there's some stuff they can fix! The last couple times we've had an issue here and this is the last straw. I asked the girl working how much longer it would be for our food- we waited a good 45 min and we were patient bc of COVID and staff shortages and she completely blew me off. Then asked again 20 min later and at that point another guy stepped in and asked where we were sitting and said we forgot to put your order in- like how? The girl was on the handheld device assuming she was putting in our order. Was she texting instead of writing our order down? Once our order was taken, it took forever to get our food. 2) understaff and lack of management! Under staff I can understand due to labor shortages everywhere else. I LOVE eating hot pot and I love the Uniboil in LA. However I'm just really disappointed in this Uniboil. The holder for the hot pot, as you can see in the picture, is EXTREMELY DIRTY. It looks like it hasn't been cleaned in forever. I don't understand how they can just not clean it and serve food on top of it. Also, half of the hot pot is cabbage slices, which is also unbelievable compared to the one in LA. I understand that cabbage can be a way to save money, but I just don't think it's reasonable to put these much cabbages in a hot pot. Other than these, the food still tastes pretty good. I really like this place but man is it expensive! The menu is a little bit confusing. To break it down, they pretty much have sizzling rice plates, set hot pots, or hot pots you can customize. I decided to customize mine and got pork with the Tom Yum soup. They actually give a pretty good amount of sliced pork but I felt like the soup had mostly veggies instead of a mix of other fish ball stuff you usually get in hot pot. However, I appreciated that the broth was extremely flavorful. Overall a fulfilling meal. Also got the tea here which I really like how they have! It was good because you can taste the fruit and it's not watered down or overly artificial or sweet. read more

They get packed pretty quickly! I went with a friend right when they open at 11:30 and by time it was 12:15 all the tables were taken! The customer service here is okay, I feel like you always have to ask them to come over when you need something, but the food is delicious! They said it would be done in 20 min When I arrived 30 min later it wasn't ready yet. The guy made a matcha without milk and I asked for him to change that to what I ordered. Then he made a jasmine green tea milk w boba (also not what I ordered) and when I asked again for the correct thing I wanted milk boba w matcha) he wanted to charge me for that - so I paid for 2 bobas only to get one (nice customer service) waited an additional 10 min for my lunch total of (40min) when I finally arrive home and have no time to eat in.... I realize I have been given a very spicy soup with meat in it (I can neither eat meat or spicy) so I wasted around $35 and my afternoon and after all of that - I now have to continue working without having any lunch to eat!? Stopped by on a Thursday night with my boyfriend because we were craving hot pot and this is seriously the ONLY good quality Asian place in the Santa Barbara area. We always come here for a delicious meal whenever we're craving authentic Asian food :)) My overall experience: They're taking COVID guidelines very seriously! The tables are separated at a good distance and it's also nicely surrounded by a white fence. They have string lights hanging around and nice music playing so the atmosphere is wonderful for a peaceful dinner. The waiter was also super friendly with helping us pick out our order and recommended us some of their popular items! Food experience: I ordered the Angus beef hot soup and my boyfriend ordered a Sukiyaki hot soup. It was so perfect for a chilly night and I definitely had that warm feeling you get with the first sip of soup. I absolutely love the sauces too that you can mix around on your own to adjust to your own taste. It's literally a must every time I get hot pot because I love dipping all my hot pot items into their sauces. My boyfriend also loved the Sukiyaki because it came with so many items like fish balls, clams, and udon! I wish we took pics beforehand but we devoured everything before I could even think of taking any pictures :'( I definitely recommend coming here especially since nights are getting chilly now and a nice hot pot meal will undoubtedly warm you up! Considering how new Uniboil is, I am pretty impressed. The only reason why this place didn't get 5 stars isn't even related to the food. To get the bad out of the way first, customer service could be better, but that should come with time when servers become more experienced. For one, I noticed that responsibilities were delegated to servers already working on something else, and as a result, one server was waiting on another server to help us and ultimately, nobody did. The flow of customer service could also be better; our servers were genuinely nice and apologetic over the inconvenience, and suddenly two of them were helping us at the same time, and it became a bit overwhelming. We just got our food, and were asked how the food was before we could've tried it. Once these little awkward kinks are gone, it's all 5 stars! I got A1, their signature pepper numbing hot soup (ma-la) with certified Angus beef. The meat was of good quality, and the broth was rich and reasonably numbing without being overbearing for most customers. There was a good amount of hot pot food, including veggies, corn on the cob, assorted fish balls, and tofu. Some places give a shabby amount of vermicelli with your order, but Uniboil gives you a good amount, and it's of the thicker, more substantial variety as well. G2, the Korean army stew hot pot, was also well-received amongst my friends. G3, the sukiyaki pot, seemed to come with less items in the pot, and having tried the broth of those pots myself, I personally liked the numbing hot soup the most. I'm glad Goleta is finally getting a wider variety of Asian food, and what makes it better is that Uniboil didn't disappoint! It's a good example. read more

Attention Goleta, Rowland Heights has officially arrived! It has been 2 years since I graduated college and left the SGV area to come to work in Goleta. It is a hustle to drive back to LA every month, so that I can have tasty asian food back home. No more, finally, uniboil has opened in SB. Thank you asian students who come to UCSB every year, it is you guys that keeps coming that attracts those kind of restaurants to open here in Goleta. A guy who works here long term wouldn't be so much happier that I no longer have to drive 3 hours to RH in order to have something like this.
