The place is really clean and in a nice location. It is by the water/ harbor. Service is good and food came quickly. The staff is attentive too and checks on us if we need anymore sides. However, our tofu soup was on the saltier side and not as flavorful as other Korean restaurants we've been going to. We had the Bbq rib lunch, lunch box with Gangjeong and tempura, tofu soup, bbq rib by itself. The rib/ galbi is good too but not as flavorful as I'm used to. Yelp lead me to Sura. I saw the great reviews and the best health inspection score when I was searching for Korean food in Oxnard. I have eaten at Sura twice this week and had the lunch special choosing tempura and beef bulgogi. Both times the service was better than average. Both times the food was delicious. The tempura reminded me of the tempura I grew up eating in California with the exception that they used panko crumbs on the shrimp. Nice! The veggies had tempura batter. Beef bulgogi is so tasty here. And the rice with beans reminded me of the Korean meals I had frequently in Virginia. The salad was fresh with a refreshing dressing. The radish soup was comforting. The bachan here are tasty. And the potsticker is nice and crispy. Best sit down Korean place I have been to in California. I've visited this quaint Korean restaurant in Oxnard a few times over the last few years, so a review is a bit overdue....so here goes. I love Sura's lunch and used to come here often, but since COVID-19, I have had fewer opportunities to have lunch there. I've been here a few times since then, but this time I came here for lunch for the first time in a while. However, I think prices have gone up overall. It's a shame that the lunches, which used to be reasonably priced, no longer feel like such a good deal. The taste hasn't changed, but whereas there used to be a lot of side dishes on the side, there are now only a few. That's unfortunate, but in these times of high prices, it may be unavoidable. However, knowing what the lunch was like before, I no longer felt like I was getting a good deal. Whenever I come here I always order the spicy seafood tofu soup. You can adjust the level of spiciness, which is nice. The soup comes with Korean purple rice. The service is friendly and good. It's located on Seabredge, so you can dine while watching the boats. The location is great. I often take a walk around here after a meal. There is ample parking in front of the restaurant. If you like Asian food, you should try Sura. read more

My family had a very nice and relaxing lunch on a Sunday afternoon here. We were seated right away and the restaurant smelled amazing. It is also very clean and warm. The service is very friendly and quick. The restaurant got filled up pretty quickly after we arrived at noon. Our lunches came out very quickly, too, and the servings are just the right size for adults, but too much for children (they don't offer a children menu). All of our lunch entrees were good, but the Chicken GangJeong (orange chicken) was a little on the spicy side. The price is a little high for a lunch, but the serving sizes and quality service makes up for it. read more

I came in for some soup to go... Great location at Sea Bridge near Vons, the UPS Store and Blenders etc. They have a small dining space and you can see the marina from their large windows. Lots of parking available too. The young lady who helped me, recommended the soup, I was having a hard time deciding and she said the Mandu was her favorite... thanks for that! Very very expensive soup!! 2 Mandu soups (their dumpling soup) $58 holy schnikey! **WORTH EVERY PENNY!** Oh my gosh! The best! Most flavorful soup! VERY generous helping LOADED with glass noodles and many of the yummiest dumplings! The filling is so tasty-a blend of minced beef, pork and veggies! They kind of look like giant fluffy potstickers :o) It also comes with a side of their colorful brown rice! On the side they also give several little containers of things you can add to the soup, a kimchi, a pickled spinach, a container w/some chunks of a squash like things? And a container w/these fishy cake like noodles? They look a little like the won ton strips you put in salads. Anyway! This was by far the best soup I've had ANYWHERE! My husband loved it too! Sura was pretty good. We walked in to quick and friendly service and were seated quickly. Nothing about the inside decor really stood out to me but it is on the Oxnard Harbor so that's pretty cool. It's suitable for dates, friendly or family gatherings. The food was good, I got chicken wings and japchae for the table, and then we all ordered different "lunch boxes" which is a choice of two meats and it comes with rice, salad, radish soup (excellent), kimchi, potatoes, and gyoza. I also noticed lots of people ordering the Stone Bowl soup. It's a boiling hot pot and the presentation is pretty cool. I'll be back to try that. This was our first time here. The staff are so friendly. The radish soup was very light and flavorful. We then had the rice stone bowl with beef ribs. There is eggplant, corn, radish, zucchini all very thinly sliced. They serve a fried egg on top. You mix it all together and add their house sauce and enjoy. We then ordered the beef ribs dinner. The tempura was very light and crispy. The beef ribs are tender and well seasoned. The sides they bring were fresh and helped with cleaning the palate. We will be back for sure. read more

Great to find a little diversity in Oxnard- Actually in this shopping mall you will find Korean, Japanese and Mexican food. All nested along the canals of Oxnard. We decided to take in some Korean food on a Saturday afternoon just as they were opening at 11:30. We were the first into the restaurant, that looks to be quite clean in the dinning area. The restaurant features small booths and tables. Unfortunately no outside seating along the canals. Sura offers both lunch an dinner specials/combos. The lunch specials with the soft tofu soup or one of the other two choices with a side protein, rice and more will run you into the mid 20s. A bit pricey for lunch but the meal was very satisfying in taste. The food was ample in size, but my friend said the meal use to be bigger and cheaper. As we all know everything has gone up since covid, except for pay check. Anyways the flavoring was spot on. My spicy tofu soup was very good and spicy at medium- you can select your level of spice- don't go too crazy! Plus I had some flavorful chicken on the side. The food was popping hot! And the service was very attentive. And before we left on a Saturday afternoon the restaurant was filled. As mentioned, I was very pleased with my meal and its flavor. I used to love coming here. The portions were great. I always ordered the soft tofu with seafood and it was always delicious and well ratioed with seafood. Today I ordered it and it was disappointing. It barely had any seafood. It was mainly tofu. It's a pricey soup, and it's definitely not worth it because of the lack of seafood. I told the server about it, she was nice enough to talk to the chef. She took my bowl to the chef and the chef said he put the same amount as he always does. I told the waitress I have gotten this before several times, have been coming here for years this used to have more seafood. The waitress then talked to the owner. The waitress said the owner said the portions are the same as always. I told the waitress there is no way this has always been the same portion. I have always been happy to get this soup and I have never complained before until now. I showed her that every time I spooned my soup all I kept getting was only tofu. There was sadly nothing she can do. 3 tiny pieces of squid legs, 3 tiny clams and one shrimp is a joke and a total rip off!! Don't lie to me and say the portions never changed. I love this restaurant ever since I have lived here on Oxnard. We always go here for the soft tofu soup ! It just go so well with the purple rice. The bulgogi was very tender and flavorful . Service was good, our water glasses were kept full, as well as another round of banchan ( those little garnishes they served with your food, we love them !). Hands down the best Korean restaurant in Oxnard/Ventura! It is not a problem at all that this is not ayce kbbq because the food is so good. We ordered the mixed greens, vegetable jap chae, spicy pork, and spicy tofu soup. My favorite item here is the spicy pork. It is super flavorful and super good with their kimchi. Their banchan items are also very good. The fish cakes are very tasty. The service was very nice. Alright listen there aren't a lot of Korean spots in this area and Sura being one of them does not disappoint at all. I had the beef bibimbap and it was delicious and it was a huge portion. My friend had the ribs and they were delicious, nicely seasoned, and tender. The calamari was decent just needed a bit more seasoning for me. The banchan was very tasty too. We paired it with a bottle of soju! Service was great and efficient as well. This place is definitely on the pricier side as any Korean restaurant but I will say the portions are big. With so few Korean restaurants in the area I'm so happy that this restaurant did not disappoint. Service was excellent from beginning to end, our waitress was very attentive. The seafood pancake was delicious! The tangy dipping sauce really enhanced the flavor. The spicy pork was very tasty and not too spicy, a mild/medium spicy level. The soft tofu soup was also very good but too spicy even though I ordered mild, it was even more spicy than the pork, so I don't know if they accidentally put too much of the spicy paste, but the waitress helped remedied it by bringing me extra bowls of broth to help tone it down. So if you cannot eat spicy then I recommend getting the "0" level just in case. The BBQ ribs were perfectly marinated and very tender. The mandu soup was very yummy, the dumplings were quite big and came with the glass noodles too. Considering that it was part of the combo the portion was actually pretty big so you're actually your moneys worth. The Beef Bibim Bob was also very tasty, each mouthful had the blended flavors of the meat, veggies and rice. Everything was amazing and the flavors were authentic. Sura is serving up some delicious Korean food in the 805! Korean restaurants and food unfortunately is still limited in Ventura county but happy that they continue to grow with a few new restaurants here and there. Sura being located at the harbor is awesome as you get lovely views and have a nice place to walk after a meal. I'll start with the pluses: The food here is absolutely amazing and super tasty! There wasn't a bite we had that we didn't like, honestly I devoured my dishes. The food is beautifully seasoned and great flavors and sauces on the mains. The menu is impressively large and I feel confident in saying the majority of their dishes are likely a win. Always happy to find a restaurant that serves up consistent and delicious food. My favorite dish of the night was their version of an orange chicken. Crispy white meat and a tasty orange sauce with a mild kick. Their beef bulgogi is also a classic. The tempura appetizer was light and well executed. Even just the sides with pickled veggies and their light broth soup as a starter was delicious. Food here A+. Your taste buds won't be disappointed. Service was also friendly and very good. Staff were all very nice and attentive. They made us feel welcome and checked up on us throughly throughout the meal. Our server told us it was his first week and he was honestly a pro - go new guy! You did great :). The other seasoned staff were equally as helpful and I'm happy to report service is also 5/5. Ambiance was very cosy and casual. I like the layout of the restaurant as it's bigger than it appears from the front but it's also spacious in the back so the tables didn't feel on top of one another. This definitely gives authentic Korean restaurant vibes with the decor and metal spoons/cups. Room for improvement: Little quirks I noticed that I wasn't super pleased about. My friend and I were very disappointed that they won't split a check. We put down two credit cards and were immediately told no splitting, even though we were making it easy and just attempting to split right down the middle using two cards. In this day and age 98% of businesses will split the check for you and want to accommodate the customer, it's really a bummer they won't do that here. So if you're coming with a group definitely bring cash. Also it seemed silly with the gorgeous harbor views they put the shades down in the back blocking the windows. I think this was requested by a customer but can't say for certain. I don't get why individual customers make a call that impacts every other customer, but again I'm assuming. Like who doesn't want to see the pretty views and feel a little sunshine? We were a little bummed about this too as we got a table close to the back door for the views and within the first 10 minutes of sitting the shades went down. Lastly critique is just that the food is pretty darn pricey. While we can say we both absolutely loved our meals and the food overall, this spot brakes the bank a little. We didn't order anything Uber fancy or pricey cuts of meat/protein yet this spot was comparable to a more higher end meal. For one appetizer and two main dishes (no alcohol) the bill was a few bucks shy of $90. That seemed pretty steep in my opinion as the food was casual Korean food with humble vibes and appearance. We both agreed that while this spot is definitely tasty, at this price point we couldn't see ourselves coming back soon as it's just a little too much for me knowing the food was good but not like an upper scale 5 star restaurant. I have been here before a Long time ago maybe over 6 yrs ago and at the time I loved the soft tofu soup. So in craving this I decided to order the chicken , salad and bbq ribs. The ribs and soup was about $40, the salad about $12 and the chicken bowl about $25. With taxes and so on all came out to $88. The worst thing i have ever seen was the cost of this chicken bowl for $25!!!!!. This is not even worth $10. This is criminal. It's embarrassing. Im not one to make the effort to review places but I had to this is completely unacceptable. I also called the restaurant in effort to give them a chance, not to refund me or remake it, but to EXPLAIN. I would have actually been happy had they said "oh we are sorry that was a mistake" but they did not. I just want to be clear why they were given this rating and this was not done lightly. If you still eat here either dine in where they have to give you quality or check before you leave this is not ok to serve somebody this. read more

WOW! Sura was the best home style korean food i've had in a while. To start, we were easily seated and the indoor decor nice. The utensils were individually wrapped. Despite not having Cass on the menu, they luckily were able to bring us out a bottle of our beer. My boyfriend and I each ordered kimchi jjigae and an order of black bean noodles with pork. The black bean noodles were savory and delicious. There was plenty of onion and zucchini which is my favorite. Also I was very impressed with the kimchi jjigae, as it was spicy, well seasoned and they did not skimp on any vegetables/meat or tofu. As of the banchan, the radish was my favorite followed closely by the homemade kimchi. (don't know for sure if it was homemade but you can just tell!) Lastly, our server was kind. I was honestly wary because of previous reviews mentioning small serving size + high prices however we had generous portions and the price was typical coming from LA county. I'm really picky about meat and their japchae has extra tender and tasty beef (vegetarian and combo available as well). Seasoning is perfect! Hubby gets the bulgogi dinner (also very lean and tasty) and it comes with all the yummy sides (kimchi, sprouts, potatoes, and more). He says the tempura is the best he's ever had.
