Fantastic addition to the Eagan area. Located in the former home of Time Out and BlueStone, I hope this Union 32 Crafthouse breaks the curse of this particular retail spot. Its contemporary and "of the moment" proposition should resonate with working professionals in the area looking for a new happy hour location and local residents searching for a fun new watering-hole alike. As others have pointed out, there is a "wall of beer" self serve option and that is what I would recommend for anyone's first visit. I particularly liked the sour bomb and blonde ale options. It's a fun user experience and engaging way to explore new beers. Everyone in my party created their own flights of beer. It appears the "indoor" food truck options rotate since most of the food mentioned in other reviews were not on the menu today. I had the bacon ranch sandwich with fries. I'm surprised to see that Union 32 doesn't have more positive reviews. It's a great brewery with a large selections of beer. You can order at the bar or do self-serve, there's food, games, free popcorn, patio seating....what more could you need? We ventured out to Eagan to drink some beer on a Saturday and we had a lot of fun. We ordered beers from the bar and did self-serve. They have a large selection that is constantly rotating and the variety was great. I had an apricot ale and a sangria that were both really good. We ordered some food, prices were a little high, but you get good quality food. We had a burger and fries. Fries were fresh/hand cut. The burger had a lot of flavor and overall we were both satisfied. The free popcorn is a nice addition for snacking and the patio was really nice. The service here was absolutely amazing from explaining how everything worked, getting us menus, making beer recommendations, and letting us sample beers before purchase. There are large TVs if your wanting to watch a game and they offer happy hour special throughout the week. If you haven't tried Urban 32 I would definitely recommend it, especially for the beer selection. read more

Fun new concept in a tap room! (Kind of a tap room plus). It's a big space with plenty of seating - bar, high tops and a large patio. You can choose to sit at the bar and be served or serve yourself when sitting elsewhere. The bar serves all MN made beverages, from beer to spirits to wine. If you're there for the beer, the best bet is to get a card from the bar that allows you to pour your own from the beer wall. You give them a credit card to connect to the beer card and off you go. "Beer Ambassadors" are waiting to show you how to properly pour a beer and to give you tops on which of the 32 options you're likely to enjoy based on your tastes. You can choose a 16 oz. or 8 oz. glass or pour yourself a flight of 4 small glasses. The Beer Ambassador will show you how to use the card to get the beer. When you're done for the night, go back to the bar where they'll run your beer card to see how many ounces you consumed and charge your credit card. The only reason I have it 4 instead of 5 stars is that they just have some kinks to work out with the beer card system. There is one station to pick up the card and and to pay. That resulted in a long line the night we were there - and it wasn't very busy. Part of the reason for the slowness is that they have to explain the system to every new person who walks up. I'm sure they'll work this out. We did t try any of the food they have onsite (an indoor food truck!) so can't comment. It's a great spot, fun concept and the staff is really friendly! Came here with a group of friends which is a great spot to hang out for hours and casually eat/drink at your own pace. All the beer is self serve and you are charged by the oz. You can fill a full pint or make yourself a flight from a selection of about 40 beers that rotate weekly/monthly. Ordering food is somewhat like a food truck in the corner of the brewery. You order when you want and they bring the food out when it's ready. I tried a couple flights of beers to sample as many as possible and actually found an IPA I really enjoyed. Guavatron by Big Axe. It's not too hoppy but very strong and sweet. For food we ordered a huge assortment: and I'll rank them here from best to worst: cheeseburger sliders, cheese curds, chicken strips, fried pickles, chipotle chicken pizza and fish tacos. Went on Friday night for the first time, and was a little put off by all of the kids there for the Eagan football game. I know Union 32 serves food too, and that it's somewhere you can take your kids, which is great. But on a Friday night it wasn't what I wanted to be surrounded by, and I could tell that a lot of other patrons felt the same. The wait was long, but wasn't a big deal because there was space to stand around or sit and talk. I loved the free popcorn! It was a great addition to the beers I tried. Union 32's concept is cool, and the beer cards are convenient. It was also nice to play bartender and pull my own beer, even though I was horrible at it. The bartender by the tap wall was really nice and helped me out, without making me feel dumb or uneducated. The elevated bar food menu was interesting - I had the Marky Mark, and it's definitely something I would order again. read more

The concept of picking and pouring your own beer sounds great in practice, but isn't great on execution. That combined with having to go up to a window to order food (which was mediocre at best), seems to cut out the service experience, which takes away from making this a great place and makes it harder to base what to tip for. read more

This is such a cool concept that I wish every city had a place like union 32! A great outdoor patio and indoor seating with tons of tables, TVs..which is such a great place for a family/friends gathering. If you've never been here before it's kind of confusing, but you go to the bar counter and get a scan card and that's what you use to pour your own draft beers. They have tons of different beers that changes often and you can also get it in flights, 5 oz, 16 oz, whatever you prefer. For food, they have an area where you walk up to order and they bring you out your food. I had the pork tacos which was very good, I added the hot sauce that was on the table caddy (very spicy) but so good. The cheese curds weren't my favorite, but the side of chips were delicious. They only have local MN made beer and wine. Very open and minimal industrial feel. They have a food truck I had a brat for 5.00 it was nothing special but I did enjoy the toasted bun they used. I ate it all too so it kept me from getting hangry. I would not choose to go here by myself or with a group of lady friends but in a mixed crowd I would not object to finding myself here once again for a drink or two if the majority wanted to go. I like the idea behind this place but feel like I need to go back and experience it again. Clearly people come for the beer, or at least that is why we picked it. We met up with family anticipating to eat dinner however they'd had a late lunch so we just had appetizers. I was not really impressed with the apps. We had loaded fries that had a cheese sauce including onions and peppers. it was hardly hot when we got them and so eating this type of thing cold, not so good and not very appealing. We also got the pretzel sticks and cheese curds. Cheese curds were pretty typical but the pretzel sticks were weird. The place is pretty much a self-serve kind of deal, which is obviously the point but I had to seek out plates from a random employee just standing around. It might have been because we had a table outside, but we didn't have any silverware or napkins, none of which was brought to us after our food was delivered. But the beer - so we stopped at the bar on our way into the restaurant and in exchange for giving them your credit card they put your information into the system and apply it towards a Union 32 card then you're able to place this card above the tap you want and pour as much or as little as you'd like. They have different sized glasses and if you go for the sample sizes there are boxes to write your beers of choice on (in chalk) and of course carry your beers. The cool thing is you know exactly how much ounces your pour is and how much it is costing you each time and the bill is even itemized this way. There are lots of Minnesota beers to sample and they have a board above the taps that lists them out, as well as an attendant nearby to help answer questions. read more

Brewery meets food truck in an airy, open setting. With 32 self-pour taps offering Minnesota beers, the experience is more about the beer than the food. Food is available at the counter inside but the options are limited to about 12 different items from sides like cheese curds and fries to sandwiches and a burger. The wings were the only thing tried on the first visit. They were ok. The main question we had was how do we tip? We sat at the bar and ordered our food, but we poured all our beers. Do we tip on food only? And, if you sit at a table, order your own food, and pour your own beer, should you tip at all? How does it work? 1. Open a tab at the bar or with one of the beer ambassador using your state ID and a credit card in exchange for a pour card. 2. Choose your drink size, taster, 12 oz. or pints. 3. At the wall of taps, put your card on handle slot to pour - Information about every drink is available on the screen below the pour handle and the card registers the ounces poured. Good to Know: 1. The pour card is set to deactivate after pouring 32 oz. for each person on the card and you can have up to 7 people on the card and you'll have to have it reactivated by an employee. 2. Interesting concept. 32 self-pour taps on the wall and a decent number of taps (including Union 32s own) behind the bar. You can do either option. Going with the wall requires putting up a credit card in exchange for a beer card that you use to fill up your glasses using the wall taps. We weren't there at a particularly busy time, but I could envision this turning into a zoo on really busy nights (picture nights during future Viking training camps). This night it worked pretty well. The food is all done thru the food truck like entity that is set up in the far back corner with a menu that encompasses the standard burgers, taco, sandwiches and the like plus a tempting appetizer section. We just ordered from that section given the time of day and went with the Final Final Fries, Pretzel Sticks, and Cheese Curds. Those are pretty standard bar fare. The curds came with a strawberry chipotle jam that is definitely different than the typical ketchup accompaniment. A nice change up. The fries were loaded up with cheese sauce, peppers and onions, and shredded cheese heaped on top. Pretzel sticks were too far on the other end of the table so I didn't get to try those (I was focused on the fries anyway, they were really good). Its a large building in at least the third iteration of establishments in that spot. Previous attempts had failed there due to the lack of surrounding population and development. That is changing now with the Vikings coming into the area across the road so they have gotten in at the right time in my opinion. Big indoor spot with plenty of space and a large patio. Its directly in the flightpath of MSP so if you are outside you will be fighting the planes on approach to hear your companions speak. Its not that bad though. Given the beer options you won't have a problem finding something to your liking and the food options are enough to guarantee that you won't leave hungry. There is room for improvement but they have a good baseline established. Once the immediate area undergoes the expected development it will be a gold mine. read more

The whole "pour your own beer" concept is really cool unless you're like me (and most of the people around me) and waste most of your pour on foam. We had gone there to attempt to catch the last bit of sun on a 70 degree day but the patio was unfortunately shaded over by the time we got there so we ended up inside. The place was really busy on a Friday night but they still had a few tables left and they have some games available to play (we grabbed checkers) while we waited for our food! My table got the BBQ burger and a chipotle chicken wrap and they were good but i will note - don't expect to fill up on the side of fries. It was a really skimpy handful! Overall, I'd probably go again for the atmosphere but might ask someone else to do my pouring for me ;) read more

I was leery of Union 32. I had read some less than stellar reviews. So I dismissed it as an option until it came on my husband's radar. And it was, "yeah, I've heard of that place. We can try it it out." It was a trick to find, it was tucked in a business park. It was a Friday and I really needed some adult recreation! I couldn't get there quick enough! When we walked in I was a bit confused as to how it operated, but quickly figured it out. We picked our high top table in front of the food truck/finger food counter and strolled over to the beer wall. Oh my gosh! It was as if a light shone down from the barley and hops heavens! I get giddy thinking of it as I type! A wall of beer, 32 taps, AT MY FINGERTIPS! All with numbers and corresponding descriptions of the beers on big screens above the taps. You can sample by the ounce, create a flight and once you find your favorite you can pour a pint! And to top it off, there were a great many that were local brews that I'd heard about on social media. I love it! We sampled a few of their appetizers including chicken fingers, curds and pretzel bites. They were all good and delicious with the many beers we sampled. To top it off, it was busy and another couple asked to share our table. Turns out our kids all go to the same school and we are from the same community. This place had a lot of hype so I was excited to try it. The positive is the novelty of using a card and helping your self to 32 different taps. The reality soon follows. You pay for foam. If you don't know all your Minnesota beers you're wondering around kind of feeling like your in the way of others doing the same. However they are very helpful too assist you. The food wasn't anything special. Very average standard bar food. All in all it was ok but not a place where I felt I'd let me to go back or recommend to a friend. I was there with a group from work . We had the smothered Fries, wings, chips & Guac, cheese curds, tacos. The wings were the only thing that I thought had some flavor. Everything was bland. If IPAs and hoppy beers are your style, you might get better enjoyment out of this place. I wanted to like it because of a larger selection of beer, but I tried 7 or 8 beers in styles I normally like and didn't care for any of them. The setup here is a little chaotic and the food is definitely overpriced for the portion size and quality. I don't know that I would try it again. We came on a Friday night around 5:00 and it was definitely crowded. They told us a little bit about the setup and sat us at a table. Basically, you get a card to use that they charge you based on how much you pour. The food is a separate area and you have to order food there (you don't have to pay there if you have an open tab), but we just paid at the window. We build a flight from multiple beers, but I didn't find any of them that I loved. Most of the beers were overly hoppy for my palate. I had a stout that was just too bitter as well, which was disappointing. Our food actually came out fairly quickly, but I was really disappointed with the size of them. We ordered the wings with the cajun dry rub, but for $13 it was only 8 small wings. The dry rub was pretty decent but they were a little dry and overcooked. The cheese in the curds was good, but for $10 it was a pretty small portion and the batter was a little soggy and bland. It came with a strawberry sauce, which was surprisingly tasty and complemented the cheese. Unfortunately, with the two of us sharing, we left there pretty hungry. Service isn't much here. They will bring your food and occasionally clear your glasses if you have time, but I wouldn't say they have real service. You have to go to the bar to get your card and to pay when you finish. It's a little strange how it's set up. I wish they had better food and better beers. I might come back again if they rotated the beer selection, but I would definitely pass on the food. read more

Who would have thought a micro brewery in Eagan? Stumbled across this when killing for some a mutual location across many country- workers, and was more than pleasantly surprised. We enjoyed a great patio (awesome for aviation buffs with flights in MSP Approach), food quick-food, and amazing tap selection. I finally asked another table what the situation was & informed that during happy hour if you order a Union 32 beer at the bar it's $2 cheaper than if you were to get a card to pour your own from the wall. Opted to try a home brewed beer from the bar. It was decent. Ordered a couple of appetizers. Bourbon Sriracha Brussels sprouts which was great & cheese curds that had a strawberry jam type sauce. The strawberry dipping dauce was a complete fail as it did not pair well with the cheese curd flavor. Asked the food runners if we could swap out the strawberry for ranch & they said there was a charge for more sauces. We didn't even use a teaspoon of the strawberry sauce - really crappy they wouldn't just swap it out. I went to the food counter myself & asked a different person & she agreed the sauce was gross on the cheese curds & graciously swapped it out for us. Never had a bad experience here. There is plenty selection of beer to choose from (32 taps), ranging from Pilsner to IPA to stout to sour beers. You pay by the ounce so you can choose whatever size you like and there are flights available to sample different beers and chalk to mark down what beer each slot corresponds to. Besides the free popcorn, the food here is pretty tasty and has always come out relatively quick. The environment is suitable for social gatherings of any kind and the patio is large. I have been here more than once and will continue to keep coming here! read more

Resounding meh. Expensive. Food from their "food truck" is not really a truck and the food is a bummer. What's great about real food trucks at tap rooms is that actual food trucks almost always serve good food (or they don't last) so this set up is sub-optimal. My kids didn't finish the cheese curds which is as resounding of a commentary as there is. The self-pour thing is neat, but the beer selection is weird. Totally local, which I appreciate, but some fun out of state ones would be fun. Also, they had almost one style between blondes, lagers, alts, and kolsches. Only two IPAs? Whatevs. It was a fun place to try, I'd go back I guess, but I'd hope for more diversity from 30 taps and better food. read more

Ordered a large takeout order tonight from Union 32. Pick up was fast, easy and the food was even better. Each meal was labeled (huge plus), sealed and tamper proof and the food was excellent! Employees were friendly and everyone was safely spaced at tables. Great place to support during these times. Will be ordering again soon! read more

i love that you can sample many rotating craft beers from around the state! Love the concept of beers on the wall to try. union 32 has a full bar for my non-beer drinking friends. They also have at least a half dozen of their own beers. Cryo Pop IPA is a favorite. I sweet dream about a beer they made around Halloween called Rosemary's Baby with 6.66% alcohol. So clever and an amazing rosemary IPA. Cannot go wrong with their scratch kitchen that really elevates bar food, great indoor space and large patio. It's near the Viking training facility. My friend has seen players there, but I haven't yet. read more

The poor your own beer concept is a little gimmicky for me and doesn't add anything. If I could give it 3.5 stars I would because I don't like the food truck concept where I have to go to the window to order. And the food was good but not great bar fair.
