This place is a gem. Very casual atmosphere to hang with friends and a hearty brunch of quality. The wait is much shorter during weekdays than during weekends. During weekends, the wait can last as long as 30 minutes, depending on the time of the day. I have tried Napoleon Hash, Chicken and Waffles, and Eggs Benedict with Chipotle sauce. I loved all of them, and they're all so good! Napoleon Hash is beef hash with cube-like fries and toasts on the side. There is an egg on top of the beef hash, and it blends really well with the beef hash. There is so much food that it is difficult to finish the dish. Chicken and waffle is literally what it sounds like. Fried chicken on top of fried dough that is waffle. It is drizzled with sauce, there is butter on top of the fried chicken. Chicken is so crispy and juicy it's amazing. The chicken meat complements the carbs in the batter and in the waffle really well. Benedict with Chipotle sauce was also very good and is my favorite. It is regular eggs benedict on an English muffin, but the spiciness from Chipotle sauce counter balances the buttery, greasy taste from the rest of the dish. @Union has had some growing pains, but it has a solid menu of addictive breakfast items, a painfully courteous staff, free wifi, numerous wall outlets for computers, Illy coffee, and almost any kind of nonalcoholic beverage you might want. I enjoyed the Lox Benedict (I left off the hollandaise) and the Potato Benedict (poached eggs on potato pancakes with hollandaise and fresh fruit). Pancakes are also a good choice - my favorite combination is blueberry and banana, but feel free to mix and match. The Hash & Eggs are also really good. I have had so many poor attempts at corned beef hash, so @Union is now my "go to" place if I have that specific craving. Of course, I order a side of healthy and colorful fruit so that I can feel like I'm eating "healthy" while devouring the corned beef hash. As far as omelettes go, I can recommend the Union Omelette (white rice, beef, sautéed onions and peppers, plus cheese) and the Western Omelette. Yes, the service may be slower than at other places, but the wait to order is never that long, it's a relaxing environment, and there is always a comfortable table open or a plug available, so it's a perfect place to sit down and stay awhile. read more

It was pretty busy when we got there about 10:30 but we only had to wait about 10 minutes or so for a table for two. There were so many different items on the menu that I wanted to try but I finally decided upon the Egg Bomb sandwich. It was a bagel with tomato, avocado, cheddar cheese, two fried eggs, and bacon and sausage. Since I'm a vegetarian, I got it without the bacon and sausage. I had heard great things about the home fries so I decided to order a side of those as well. The sandwich came out and it was huge! It was very tasty and the perfect breakfast sandwich for what I was looking for. The avocado was fresh, as where the tomatoes. The two fried eggs were cooked perfectly and the cheddar cheese just melted it all together. I wasn't very impressed with the home fries, perhaps because mine were cold. Their coffee is phenomenal and I drank about 4 cups. Overall, a nice brunch spot but I know there's a lot of competition in the area. read more

Came here on a Sunday afternoon for brunch with a big group of my friends. We waited quite some time since we had a big party. The place is very open and is very spacious and parts of the walls were very hipster like because of the grey wood. Anyways, we were seated and we ordered our drinks. Our drinks came out relatively fast. A few of my friends got the orange juice and that looked really fresh. I got the iced vanilla latte and it was perfectly sweetened with the right amount of ice. Afterwards we placed in our orders. It didn't take that much time for our food to come out. I ordered the meat lover's omelette with hash browns and white toast. Union is probably one of the few places in Boston that has hash browns rather than home fries, which I love. The hash browns were perfectly crispy and you still got the potato texture on the bottom. Pair that up with ketchup and it's bomb. The white toast was nicely toasted and it had a little bit of butter on it to give it some flavor. The omelette was cooked to my expectations. It had ham, sausage, and bacon in it, but I opted out the cheddar cheese for American cheese. It was very soft and it was cooked nicely. My favorite breakfast place! Ate a buffalo chicken sandwich for dinner one night and was not impressed, but I do love their breakfast. My husband and I usually go there for breakfast anyway, which is why they get 4 stars. I ALWAYS get over easy eggs (it comes with the BEST potatoes in town) with an English muffin and bacon. I'm never disappointed. I don't like that their tea is expensive (and you only get one tea bag!), but I'm otherwise satisfied. The dining area looks GREAT and the waitstaff is very friendly, although VERY inexperienced. I hope this place gets better. It has a tough act to follow. i really miss the Grecian Yearning Diner. It took a few times asking for them to bring syrup (it wasn't brought out with the pancakes) and water refills. The food was okay, but some of my potatoes were undercooked or overcooked. Came here for a Halloween treat with my good friend, M. We both had hankerings for lattes, and Union DELIVERED. Not only is the outdoor seating immaculate (a beautiful after snow blue sky day -- and we got to watch a man in a top hat tap dancing not four feet away from us!) but also the lattes were to die for (just a little halloween pun...) So you'd think that nothing can top all this, right? WRONG. We were served by the most angelic, blond haired waitress with blue eyes you could SWIM in. Best customer service in all of Allston. Hands down my favorite breakfast place in the area. It is a dirty pleasure of mine to make it here on a weekday morning and have a philly omelette and a latte as I sit by myself. Honestly, the only thing I've ever had here is the philly omelette and it was SO DANG GOOD the first time I haven't bothered trying anything else since. They do always have seasonal menu items, including seasonal flavorings for lattes/coffee. My friends always get the sweet things such as pancakes and waffles and RAVE over them. If you come on a weekend you will def have to wait a bit but it's worth it for the philly omelette! My favorite breakfast spot to take friends and family visiting from out of town. Pancakes are amazing, and my sister fell in love with their Wine Rosemary Raspberry French Toast. Their espresso drinks are decent, and are a good value. Hot black coffee is flavorful but not too strong. Staff are extremely friendly and kind; service is prompt. I only took off one star because my savory breakfast last time (corned beef hash with over easy eggs and homefries) was a little burnt. If it's the middle of the day and I want a clean, mostly quiet and friendly place to go for a snack and/or some coffee - 9 times out of 10 I venture over to @Union! I'd been living and working in the neighborhood for years before I finally stepped in - I was so surprised by the atmosphere in this cafe! The wood paneling, open concept space with large front windows that open up when it's warm create the perfect vibe. The wait staff are extremely attentive and kind - full of smiles! I find the prices here to be right too - I can get a full plate of breakfast food for around $8 and the home fries are DELICIOUS. They have a bottomless cup of coffee too! But here's why I took off one star - the coffee isn't super great - not my favorite. I have pretty high standards for coffee, so part of this is subjective to me, of course. But the coffee/espresso isn't made with care and probably doesn't use the best beans...in comparison to a place like Pavement around the corner, for example. However, I'm 100% sure the majority of coffee drinkers would find it comparable if not better than the average cup they make for themselves at home. So to each their own. It doesn't stop me from ordering a cup once in a while, but there are other places that do coffee better. On the other hand - there tea is awesome! I love the cherry green tea iced. Yum! Oh, and the also do mimosa buckets, beer, wine etc! All in all - great, kinda hidden spot in Allston Village! Love that I can come here and do work on my laptop while eating potatoes and taking in some sunshine. I've heard the weekend mornings gets very busy because of hangover brunch, but check it out during a lull period and I doubt you'll be disappointed. read more

I have only went there for breakfast on weekdays during their less busy hours. I don't have to wait for seating, but they seemed to be understaffed both times, especially during my second visit: only a lady was attending to the entire cafe plus coffee bar. Quite surprising. But she was very nice and sweet, no complaints about her service. Standard breakfast is okay, I love how they have different sauces (hp, cholula, buffalo hot sauce) available at the counter. Their coffee is to kill for. The coffee. So good. I usually take coffee with cream and sugar, but their coffee is good enough to be enjoyed black. Oh, goodness. This place made me feel embarrassed for the waitstaff (...all two of them). I don't like feeling meek when I eat my greasy Sunday breakfasts! Basically, they took a while to take/bring our order, besides getting mine wrong...and they are uneducated as to what an iced coffee is (it should not come brimming with cream and sugar!)...and when I obliged them by letting them put sweetener in themselves they got it wrong. All of this was topped off by them acting very awkward and apologetic the whole time, which makes me UNCOMFORTABLE! I spent most of my time correcting my order, which I hate doing. Instead of salvaging their reputation with me, they lost a customer. The first incident that I had with @Union, I brought 3 friends there Sunday morning for brunch. After ordering our food, we waited over 45 minutes to get our meal...and one of the orders wasn't correct. Nothing was done about the meal and we were pretty much left to take what we were given and be happy with it. I really wanted to believe that @Union had just got up on the wrong side of the bed that morning and that it was a one time incident.....I was wrong. This morning, my girlfriend and I got to @Union at 10:20, and were seated in about 10 minutes. Our receipt was stamped at 10:36, meaning this is when our order was placed. Before telling you how long we waited, let me tell you what we ordered: -The Prosciutto Asparagus Benedict -One Blueberry Pancake -The Lox & Bagel (which is literally a toasted bagel with the salmon and toppings on the side) -2 over easy eggs We did not get our food until after 11:20! We sat there for almost an hour! The waitress stopped by once during this whole time to fill up our water glasses and did not say a word. But let me tell you the real kicker. After we had been seated, a family of four was seated about 5 to 10 minutes after us. Not only did they get all of their food before my girlfriend and I, they were nearly finished and leaving as our food was brought to us. THEY WERE BEING SERVED BY THE SAME WAITRESS. Then, to top it off, after finally receiving our check, we waited about another 10-15 minutes to have the waitress pick up the credit card. She never showed up and instead a different waitress had to take care of it for us. This is the most disappointed I've been with an Allston restaurant. I really hope @Union does some self-evaluation and fixes whatever issues they have going on. However, I won't be going there again to find out. read more

Came here on a Sunday around 12pm and we were seated within 5 minutes. The natural lighting in the restaurant is nice and the place is quite cute with wooden tables. They also sell coffee at the front of the restaurant too if you wanted to just grab a cup. I had the Smoked Salmon Benedict and it was nothing special. It came on half of a bagel with a strip on smoked salmon on each and a poached egg on top. The salmon tasted a bit weird and the overall dish was bland because there wasn't much flavor to it. Had to put tapatio sauce on it to flavor it better. The home fries that came with it was good though and had just the right amount of crisp. Overall, your standard brunch place, nothing really stood out to me. Not sure if I would be back. read more

I wanted to like this place a lot. I've heard so many good things from friends, and I saw a fair amount of recent great reviews. It comes with two poached eggs. Now, I know, poached eggs are tricky. But they're literally on EVERY breakfast dish so I figured this place has to have gotten it down by now. They were raw. Not even just runny. Straight up RAW. I bit (and I use that term loosely) into the egg white and it was all liquid. I didn't know what to do. I don't even know how it made it to my plate without spilling it was so raw. This is what was going through my head: "Do I swallow it? Do I spit it out? Where's my napkin? Is that rude? I can't spit it out, there are too many people here, that's so embarrassing! I'm going to puke. Oh god, I'm going to puke in front of all these people". My fear had to have been palpable. Ultimately, I got through it. I ate around the eggs for the most part, but by then I had already lost my appetite, so I just kind of finished the toast and left. Literally, just thinking about it while I'm writing this is making me want to throw up. My advice? Skip ANYTHING with the poached eggs. Save yourself the trauma. read more
