Always swift service (food and beverage), Union has a casual, laid back vibe and rather unpretentious aesthetic while offering up both classic brunch options as well as unique specials. The coffee/tea is generically decent, but the fresh squeezed juices put the mimosas well above average. Chicken and waffles are the best I have had outside of the south, though I recommend springing for the real maple syrup. Cajun hash, benedicts, and salads are all worth writing home about. We take all of our visiting friends here.
After walking by this place for the past two years, we finally tried it out for breakfast. The outside is not much to look at, but the inside was pleasantly nice and spacious. It's not huge, but there's definitely more room than I had originally guessed. The food was yummy. Typical breakfast food with some specials. I love when restaurants have specials. Keeps things interesting and not boring. Although the food was yummy, I do feel like it was slightly overpriced. $4 for a side of bacon that only came with TWO measly pieces?! Not cool. They also didn't have a children's menu which was a little disappointing. Despite these two "negatives", I'd still recommend this place and definitely come back. The service was also good. We weren't there on a week end, so not much was happening. Would like to see if the service quantity is maintained when the restaurant has more than 10 people in it.
A solid spot for some fun renditions of classic breakfast dishes. Inside is a casual modern ambiance. We had one of the specials - a matcha tiramisu french toast. It was an interesting flavor, the matcha was certainly strong but I'm not sure it was my favorite combination with the sour ricotta (?) cheese. Still good, maybe just not my personal favorite. We also ordered the bulgogi eggs benedict, which was delicious. The bulgogi had a great flavor and paired well with the hollandaise. The side of potatoes was delicious i just wish there was more. Overall it is a bit on the pricey side for the portions but I still think a solid breakfast spot option. our server was also fantastic! Super sweet and attentive.
Tasty spot for breakfast, nothing too special. Some interesting menu items but unfortunately not outstanding preparation. We tried the Bulgogi Benedict and the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes, which were each tasty, though there was a hair in my pancake that was distinctly not mine. Inside is loud and crowded. The server was not too friendly and was also a severe mumbler so we really had no idea what she was saying. Probably wouldn't go back given the bounty of options in the area.
Pretty good brunch place with the classics as well as a few re-imagined items. Our table shared the bulgogi benedict, cajun hash, and the wine rosemary french toast. I was pleased with all of our choices and the portions were quite good. Their french toasts are probably their most pretty and interesting options - the wine rosemary one had brie in between the toast! I also got the pistachio match a latte which didn't have any detectable pistachio flavor at all, but was still good matcha. The food did come out a bit slow. Decor/ambience inside is nothing amazing.
The atmosphere is underwhelming and not particularly welcoming. Several of the chairs are wobbly and felt like they would break if we leaned back. The staff was friendly and there weren't too many patrons in the restaurant on a Monday around lunchtime, but food service was pretty slow. The drinks were made quickly though and they were fine. It was odd that the cafe drinks were made without sweetener. Usually a London Fog has at least a little simple syrup in it. Not this one. The matcha was similarly unsweetened. Overall the bulgogi Benedict was the best thing on the table. The kimchi bulgogi quesadilla was mid. Needed more bulgogi and kimchi and less pico, especially since the pico was served on the side. The rosemary French toast was also very good. The sweet fruit and the Brie went well together, but it needed way more of the special syrup. I didn't care for it as much with regular (not pure maple) syrup. The meal was like $78 for 3 of us for three entrees and 3 beverages. Outrageously expensive for what we got. The food was good, but it wasn't $95 good.
Spacious seating area & nice service. The food does take a little longer than average to come out. But order a drink & bring a friend to stay entertained. Everything we had was good. We got hashbrowns, and they did not disappoint; very crispy. The bulgogi marinade was just good enough to be considered bulgogi. Better than the trader joes bulgogi marinade. The chorizo can be a little spicy if you can't handle a little heat.
Union is a classic brunch spot in Allston. They have a wide variety of savory and sweet brunch foods, and several delicious sandwich options. Today a friend and I walked in at 1:30pm and got seated immediately. We ordered the hash napoleon and the berries and ricotta French toast. The hash napoleon was pretty standard, the and hash was not too remarkable. The berries and ricotta French toast though, was DELICIOUS! I loved the whipped ricotta topping and the layer of berry ricotta cream in the middle. I would order that again. Service was okay, I know we did not dine during peak hours, but the waiter forgot to give us our check at the end of our meal. It seemed like other folks were getting their checks / water filled but the waiter didn't seem to get to where we were sitting. Otherwise a great experience
I just had to write an updated review for @Union because I found myself visiting it again recently and I feel like the food has gotten so much better. Maybe it was the special menu item or that specific day, but I remember why I used to always visit @Union and enjoyed the food. That day we ordered fluffy pancakes and bulgogi benedict with freshly squeezed orange juice. The fluffy pancakes were indeed very fluffy, I love the mascarpone cream that came with it. The bulgogi benedict was delicious, it came with a good amount of meat, eggs were runny when cut into, flavors were all there. Both dishes were 10/10. The only bad part about this meal, or any time visiting @Union would be the very long wait for our food. We waited over 35 minutes for our food after placing the order with our server. We devoured the entire thing within minutes though.
Mask are required Cocktails are served at this location for breakfast. The chicken and waffles were so good, the chicken was well seasoned and could've been eaten alone. It was perfect with the waffle and syrup. The banana and cinnamon French toast was perfect also. It was crunchy around the edges and a combo of soft and a bit of crunch towards the middle. This was really good. The hast brown didn't taste like it had any seasoning and it was very crunchy, a bit too much for my liking and I should've asked for onions and peppers to be cooked with it. Otherwise, this place was really good, parking wasn't an issue, staff was great and drinks were good as well.
Cute brunch spot. I've been here several times. The food is reasonably priced for Boston. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. There is hand sanitizer available at the front and all staff is wearing masks. They have a specials menu that changes throughout the year. I've always enjoyed trying the fun new items on the specials menu! The food sometimes takes a bit to come out but the staff is always very nice. The food is good with generous portion sizes as well.

TLDR; decent brunch place in busy Allston. Generally have to wait so plan in advance. I've been here a few times out of convenience of location at this point. I usually get some form of a Benedict and a coffee of some sort. The waitresses really vary. Some are quite good at tending to your table while it may be forever before one returns or getting someone's attention even if they just tender to the table right next to you. I wanted a refill on water once and took over 10 minutes to get the attention of someone. They also seem to be low on glassware and someone in my party had to wait for their coffee because of that. The food is decent here. They usually have specials and I enjoy trying new dishes so I got this chorizo Benedict once. The meat did not particularly taste like chorizo but was edible. I picked this for the spice, but it was pretty neutral in that sense but the hollandaise was tasty. To their credit, the eggs are usually well done where the eggs do run. read more

A good place for a casual weekend brunch. The southern style Benedict egg is good. Perfectly cooked, rich gravy and great biscuits. I substituted the fries with fruit and portion was just generous! The hazelnut latte was average level, neither amazon nor disappointing. Service definitely needs some improvement. read more
Nice breakfast/brunch with a diner feel. I arrived around 10am on a Saturday with my sister and was seated right away. Nothing like bottomless coffee to start off your day for the price of $2! The waitresses here are always nice and the menu hits all the bases with foods you would like to see for brunch. Pancakes, waffles, eggs benedict, your salty meats... I always like to come here with at least one other person so we can share something both salty and sweet. The crunchy french toast was delicious and lives up to its name with its coating of corn flakes. If you're feeling up to ice-cream for your very first meal of the day, then by all means go for it because I hear it goes great with the toast. I always fall for the eggs benedict trap, but I've noticed that chicken and waffles has made its way to the menu here. Next time I'll be sure to give that a try :3. Brunch places tend to be overpriced, but this place is reasonable especially for college students within the area! read more

On a sunny spring day, I can't see any other way of starting the day except with brunch and Union was a great way to accomplish that. Came in with a group of friends and only got to eat through a part of their menu which had a solid range of food choices- from your everyday breakfast items to real fancy brunch items. Me and a friend split the spicy chorizo Benedict and lobster Benedict (yes we both wanted both so we swapped half and definitely treated ourselves). For the price, it was absolutely fantastic. The chorizo was spicy but not in an overwhelming way, paired with the avocado, spinach, and perfectly poached egg I could not ask for more. It was really a perfect bite. The lobster was slightly disappointing though. The Hollandaise sauce was a little to heavy to be paired with the lobster and with the overall bite, it was hard to really get the lobster taste. The dishes were kind of heavy especially with the home fries but so so good. Ordered the honey lavender latte, currently one of their seasonal drinks. It was good but a little too flowery with the lavender. If you like that then this is the drink for you. The overall service was great. Despite the place being packed, we were served fairly quickly and kept happy throughout the meal. Which in a group of 8 can be hard sometimes, so props to them. Would totally come again! read more

This place has the best food and their mimosa bucket is only $30! You really can't beat that price in Boston. It comes with champagne and two juices of your choice. It can get really busy especially on Sunday's...I've waited more than an hour one Sunday but it's worth it. Sometimes, the service can be slow depending on who your waiter is. The atmosphere is the typical brunch spot, nothing cozy or cute about it. Street parking only but I haven't had any trouble finding parking near by anytime I go. read more
Was a cute place! Came on a Saturday around 10:40AM for brunch with my friend and it wasn't busy yet. We were seated right away. The staff was really nice and it didn't feel too crowded when we sat down. Took us a while to decide on what to eat; I ordered a Farmer's Eggs with Sausages while my friend got an egg white omelette. The prices were pretty decent, so I was surprised! since I moved to Boston everything's been really overpriced... but then the food came 15 minutes after we ordered and I realized why it wasn't that expensive. The portions were kinda small. Maybe it's just because I'm from Toronto, but the plates just seemed kind of sad - the omelette was especially barren and just sad to look at. Service was good, our server was pretty friendly. My friend ate her omelette really quickly because she was so hungry and I guess it seemed like we were going to leave soon because our waitress just handed us the bill 10-15 minutes after our food arrived . Made me feel kind of rushed but maybe she didn't realize that we hadn't had our food for that long. Might come back if I'm in the area, but there's a lot of other stuff to try too! read more

First time at Union this weekend and it was great. The food and atmosphere was great. It's rare to find a good breakfast/brunch spot. The service was great. Definitely social distancing tables. The orange juice is real, freshly squeezed! It's not a big restaurant but it was just right for us. Waited about 20 minutes for a table. read more

Dropped in for a quick brunch on Saturday morning. Tried the lobster omelette and wolfed it down in about 2 minutes. The baked potatoes and fries were amazingly good too! Fries were really really crispy and everyone in our group just loved it read more

I'm not the type of person who goes around giving negative reviews willy nilly. That being said, I need to go in about my experience here. The price to portion ratio is a joke. The waffle is soggy. The coffee is watery. The home fries are a really bad flavor. The eggs are tiny. Easily the worst part was the coffee. The orange juice was really good, but not enough to bring it up to 2 stars. You could get a better breakfast anywhere around the Commonwealth Allston area. The servers were very nice too! It's just that the food is really bad and not worth what they charge for it. read more

Absolutely crazy place in Allston - love their food especially steak and - customers service is great even at rush hour Everyone is smile and so pleasant (talking about waitresses) Eggs they made like in heaven especially if you like them sunny can't tell more about that place you have to try steak and egg unless you are vegetarian Highly recommend This is my favorite breakfast place ever Going here everyday for breakfast since I discovered till now ! read more

Really good breakfast. My favorite dish is their Sunrise - 2 over easy eggs over spinach and slightly spicy home fries and toast. Breakfast sandwiches are cheap and loaded with bacon/sausage. Avocado toast Is very tasty and fulfilling. Watch out for the Eggs Benedict with spicy chorizo- it's really spicy!!! Latte is always good but you must try their hot Dirty Chai; iced green mint tea is also very refreshing. read more

The best breakfast place ever Love this place, love their kitchen, people who work there. Food is always delicious, I can't even choose my favorite dish Servers are always nice and friendly, you feel like you are the part of their family. Even in the rash time, when place is super busy and line goes outside, waitresses are smiling and I wouldn't say that they are stressed out. I've had better brunch food. I would say my overall experience was okay. The exceptional part was the service! Our waitress was the sweetest and was super easy to talk to. I've never been here and decided to come with a friend visiting from California on a Tuesday morning. First off, I love the setup. There's a great homey, modern feel about the interior of the restaurant that I personally enjoyed. We started off with the wedding Benedict (poached eggs, hollandaise, Canadian bacon, spinach, and tomato on English muffins) served with fruit. It wasn't too bad, but I felt like it needed more flavor or salt. It was missing something. I doused it in Tapatio haha. We also ordered hash browns and they're pretty much like the ones you can buy frozen from the supermarket and cook at home. Meh, nothing special. We also got the wine rosemary french toast. It came with slices of Brie in between thick slices of brioche with a wine syrup. Sounds tasty right? Meh. I didn't know if the Brie worked stuck just in between the bread. I wish they had made the Brie into a custard and added more elements of sweetness. The Brie overpowered any other taste in my opinion. I love Brie normally but it just didn't work here. I want to try the crunchy French toast next time because it sounds a lot better. On top of all that, we also got two mimosas. They were both tasty and sweet! Just what I wanted. I wish my experience here was more outstanding. The one thing outstanding was the service! I hope to be wowed next time I decide to stop by. read more

@Union is located just off the Harvard Ave stop on the B line. I went around 10 a.m. on a Sunday, and there was a 30 minute wait. While our wait ended up being closer to 20 minutes (not complaining about that), we received our food after several parties seated after us had gotten their food. I would understand if the other parties were smaller than us as there would be less dishes to prepare and they want the food to come out all at once, but there were only three of us dining in my party. People tend to crowd on the ramp leading into the restaurant, making it unclear who has had their name already taken down, who is waiting for their name to be taken down, and who is waiting for other members of their parties to arrive. I wish that there were either a dedicated staff member in charge of seating, or that we could sign in on the waiting list ourselves. Besides the waiting process, I find that the food is affordable and tasty. My favorite things to order are the crunchy french toast (see photo below), followed by the Texas Hash (I'm a spicy fan, so jalapeños are always welcome). I've frequented @Union five times, and plan on returning when I find myself in the area. read more

My go to whenever I'm craving for American brunch. Service is great and food is amazing! My boyfriend cannot get enough of their chicken & waffles. I love their espresso martini pancakes, though it can get you full instantly. Highly recommend lobster Benedict or omelet if you're a seafood person. Also, they have freshly squeezed OJ! read more
@Union was a great find on the part of my roommate (YAY go her). Although the wait was pretty long, as the line was out the door by the time we got there (~11am on a Sunday), it was totally worth it. We finally found the hidden gem of Allston. The help was super attentive, although I wish they had come around with coffee more often than they did, especially since it was "bottomless." Food was excellent and both of us left super stuffed. Recommended: lemon raspberry pancakes and the homestyle hash. Note: only hot coffee is bottomless, iced coffee is not. read more

This place is quite busy on Sunday mornings, so plan accordingly! I had a solo brunch since my partner was out of town, and didn't mind waiting for a table by myself. When I initially got there I noticed they have a waitlist you sign-in on, and they text you when your table is ready. I waited for 20-30 minutes, which gave me enough time to browse their menu. I ordered the Napoleon Hash with wheat bread after I was seated, and subbed the sunny side up eggs with egg whites. Later on I ordered an iced caramel coffee (not pictured) after I realized I hadn't had any coffee yet! The dish had a generous amount of hash browns and corned beef, so I personally think I got my money's worth. I know my order for next time! read more

When I visited Boston last weekend, we ate brunch here on Friday morning and it was excellent! When I looked at the photos and reviews before getting to Union, I immediately knew I was in for a treat. I absolutely love any type of eggs benedict, so I was thrilled when I saw that the restaurant had a Lobster Eggs Benedict. I didn't even need to look at the menu to know what I wanted as I am a huge seafood lover...smoked salmon and lobster benedicts are what I live for. The Lobster Benedict certainly lived up to my expectations. I would highly recommend trying it, and definitely order it with avocado and hashbrowns! The hashbrowns were unreal...perfectly crispy! My friend got the Southern Benedict which had the eggs smothered in gravy, and she raved about it. My other friends got a Ham & Cheese Omelette and a make-your-own omelette with cheddar, tomato, mushroom, onion, and sauteed spinach. To drink, we all ordered different coffee drinks. I had a soy latte and it was great! I am so delighted we chose to try Union for a delicious brunch in Boston, and I hope I am able to visit again soon and try more of the dishes (especially the benedicts)! Service was quick as it was not very busy at the time we ordered. All of the server were very friendly and accommodating as well with the additions and customizations we made when we ordered. read more
The wait can be pretty intimidating during weekend brunch, but it moves by quickly. Tip: If you see a line forming to the door, make sure you step up to the front by the "bar" and ask for the hostess to take down your name. It isn't a first come, first serve line basis. FOOD Cajun hash - This was a good dish.. I just didn't think there was anything particularly special or amazing about it. I could've made this at home, probably. The hash browns were cooked well and had a nice crunch to it without being soggy. Scrambled eggs with cheddar cheese, bread, and home fries - My friend's dish also looked like something you could make at home. The cheddar cheese was still in square form slapped on top of her eggs. It didn't look like much effort went into either of our plates. Although these dishes were not anything special, this place is reasonably cheap for breakfast/brunch around the area. For both entrees and two iced coffees, the total came out to $20! The iced coffee we got with our entrees were also good, in that they did not taste burnt or watered down. read more
It hurts my little heart -- the food is pretty darn good and the service was so crummy, making me push @Union's 4-5 star review down to a meager 3 :( Let's begin the short story: Waking up, slightly hungover, I was craving some good breakfast. My friend had recommended Union on Harvard Ave and said that the crepes were to die for. Of course, excited, we decided to head on over. When we got there, the line appeared long and reached the door. Because there were only the two of us, we actually didn't have to wait long at all. It isn't quite a first come first serve basis - whatever table is open first, they'll fill it according to the number of seats available. Everything was going great, we had sufficient time to decide what we wanted, and our waitress took our orders. That was the last we saw of her. 45 minutes later and observing 3 tables that had been seated after us receive their meals before we had, I was getting very impatient. The original waitress that took our order was no where to be found ; I believe eventually we saw her in the back making drinks. We had to grab ahold of another waitress, who later apologized for the slow service and said that ours should be coming right up; according to her, 2 of the chefs called out sick, which was why the food was taking so long. Deep down, I think our order got misplaced amongst the bunch, but 10 further minutes after we had spoken to this last waitress, we had finally gotten our food: I customized an Egg White Omelette with sauteed spinach, feta, ham, and avacados with an english muffin and a side of home fries. Hands down, probably one of the best omelettes I've had in a while. Definitely hit the spot after a long drunken night. The Strawberry Smoothie I ordered was also good. I snuck a taste of my friend's caramel marshmallow latte and died a little in heaven. I don't usually drink coffee and this was amazing. They also brought out a plate of fresh fruit for us on the house to try to compensate for the lateness of the meal. Overall the service sucked butt , but the food was good enough to leave me wanting to come back and give @Union another shot. read more

Food looks amazing, took 3 tries for them to finally get the order right. Especially after repeating my order multiple times back to me. Brought out an omelette knowing that it was the wrong order and still tried to ask me if I wanted it? Instead of what I ordered... sides of sausage link and onion rings also took very long to come out. My friends orders were also very cold and they took it back to "heat it up" and didn't. Came back cold. read more
