I was told some people think there is cedar in the chai, but that's not why it's called that. It's the name of the tea company. The chai was really rich and worth stopping in for a visit on its own. There is also plenty of parking just off Grand Boulevard.

In general they were good. I guess a more European take on a pastry. Not as sweet and probably better ingredients. They all ate a bit dry though. Not sure if this is by intent. It was good. But at $5-$6 a doughnut it should be dreamy I think. Would I go back. Maybe. I probably would prefer a maple bar from doughnut parade or fluffies or such. The proprietor was friendly, informative, and clearly passionate about the product. The donuts come with the premium pricing one would expect from a small artisan bakery, but unfortunately they did not live up to expectations. The flavours themselves were good, but the donuts were noticeably drier than expected even when fresh, and by the next day they were virtually inedible despite being stored properly. Usually small artisan shops justify the higher price point with a clearly superior product and experience. Unfortunately, Lantern Donuts did not quite achieve that for me and, regrettably, I found the mass-produced chain-store donuts more enjoyable overall. The custard filled donuts tasted like they were made in old oil and were not filled all the way. All of the old fashioned were under cooked with raw dough in the middle of the donut. The apple fritters were also under cooked in the middle, the edges were good but the middle was gross. We were told that their best baker had made the donuts which is unfortunate because they must have been having a really bad night. Would not recommend unfortunately.
