My kids and I have weekly donut dates (it's our one treat in the week and they choose where). Retro is the place they choose the most. The ease of drive through is a plus for me; and I always have a pleasant experience with the team there, they're all kind, efficient and friendly. Donuts are bigger than what you would get elsewhere (trust me, we've been almost everywhere at this point in the North and Central Spokane area). Retro has great quality, they're not overly greasy, they're generous in portion and the taste can't be beat. We usually order the maple bar, Boston cream and some variation of rings with sprinkles. Donuts are good. Coffee is eh. And the Gigi they are so proud of is one of the worst things Ive ever put in my mouth. Tastes like salt and mold. Really gross. We bought 4 and they all went in the trash. Took quite a while and other foods to get the horrible taste out of our mouths. Maybe it isn't always moldy cuz I see some good reviews. But wow. We have really enjoyed these donuts. They are well made and definitely hit the spot. Over the last year I've picked up 2-3 dozen once a month for a meeting at work. I went today to pick up two dozen and the price had gone up significantly. When I went in December I got two dozen donuts and the price before tip was $57.60. Today when I went the total before tip was $71. The price of two dozen donuts had increased by over $13 in one month. I questioned the price and was told the owners raised the prices. On top of that they gave me donuts I had requested not to have. Look, I get it - inflation is hitting everyone, but $71 for two dozen donuts is bonkers. I absolutely cannot justify that. I am sad to say we will no longer be getting our donuts from here. There are other places in town that did not raise their prices, like donut parade, that are just as delicious. Maybe they should consider saving money by making their donuts a little smaller instead of hiking up the prices. I'm sure they think that's the appeal of their donuts, but honestly most people don't even finish a donut that size and would probably be okay getting a smaller donut for cheaper. read more

Holy crap this place is so good!!! This is a family favorite and so every time we're in Spokane our family goes! The donuts are phenomenal and I wish I could've tried more!! Their dough is so light and fluffy and the flavor choices are so cool!! I loved the maple coconut crunch and sugar! We also got the fresh pressed apple juice and it was amazing!! Do I have visited now both during Covid-19 and before... I absolutely love the owner who has been there every time I have gone. He is so nice and obviously cares about the quality of his donuts. I have ordered a dozen getting the 13th free 2 times... So many choices... but all top quality.... During Covid-19 we went through the drive thru... They had pictures of the donuts available... still so many choices... We also tried the cold brew coffee was amazing... They use coffee ice cubes to make sure you don't get a water downed iced coffee. The only reason I didn't give them a five stars is because the price is on the higher side... I was considering not posting this however my customer convinced me this more info to do so. Earlier today I was here to pick up a gift delivery for door dash. Now normally all the stores I've been to use the gift recipients name for the order not the senders when we are picking up deliveries as to not spoil any potential surprises and to keep things anonymous. I went into the store as soon as I got the notification on the app that my order was ready, went up to the front counter and gave them the receivers name for the order. The older larger Gentleman who I assume is an owner or manger proceeded to chew me out because they didn't have the order ready (he felt the need to repeat this 3 times as if I was a child or some peasant unworthy of his time. While he's making a jerk of himself, I hear another gal who was manning the other side of the counter say she has a door dash order ready under the senders name. The guy tried to tell me it wasn't my order (it was not a common first name last initial, instead of thinking Alex jones, think Wanda Martinez ). I took the order anyways and left. My customer messaged me as soon as I got in my car (the sender) asking why their gift had taken over an hour to be delivered, I told him I didn't know for sure but mentioned that one of the people at the restaurant had put their name on the box instead of the recipient's and that may be why the order had been delayed. my customer told me that 3 drivers before me had driven to the restaurant and then canceled the pick up. This is by far the worst experience I've had with a restaurant, behaving this way not only negatively impacts drivers but customers. My hopes for this review is that either the store retrains that employee, if he was a manger he will take some time to reflect on how he approaches delivery drivers in the future, or worst case customers are forewarned that there is a problem with this location in terms of professionalism and choose to avoid it if possible. read more

Amazing bakery items here. Come for a classic donut with all your favorites (old fashion, glazed, maple bar, jelly filled, apple fritter...) or try a new creation (Ono bite, bacon maple bar, donut breakfast sandwich). They have a drive through and sit-down area. During COVID they sometimes ran out of donuts and had to close early to stay afloat, but since then they are getting back to full capacity. The atmosphere is of a retro dinner and the service is great. I even like their coffee from their pour-over station. read more

I went to Retro donuts yesterday, 12/24/19 at 1030a and they were out of donuts. Their hours say 6a-3p. I got home and wanted to talk to the manger and when I called the owner answered the phone. I let the owner know what had happened and to let him know of my disappointment. He the said to me, "you snooze you lose, I do not care if I lose you as a customer and I do not want to listen to your complaining." He the hung up the phone on me. For an owner to talk to a customer this way is rude and beyond unprofessional. I was shocked at his lack of hospitality and total disregard for my patronage. Great donut place in North Spokane. There are quite a few choices, I recommend the Tuxedo, a chocolate cake donut with white chocolate frosting and chocolate chips on top. Retro Donuts is now open on the north side off Newport Highway behind Franks Diner. They offer fresh, gourmet donuts from 6am-3pm Tuesday-Saturday and 7am-1pm on Sunday. (Closed Monday) They have a drive thru for convenience and those that don't want to do the walk of shame with all their donuts. The girls behind the counter are happy and friendly even after a busy Saturday morning shift. They are especially patient with those of us overwhelmed with the selection who can hardly narrow their choices down to 1 dozen. When you see the maple bacon jalapeño donut, just give it a chance. It's different but the sweet and savory and spicy is a flavor blast you should experience at least once in your life. My favorites were the Boston Creme Pie and Pineapple Fritter. Their real specialty is their "Gigi". It is a savory donut biscuit filled with egg and cheese. Their donuts are dense and very rich so be prepared. Make sure you get there early or they will sell out of the best flavors. Their blue berry cake donut is very popular as well. If you are looking for your typical glazed or chocolate donut, go to Donuts To Go, but if you want something unique and different you won't be disappointed. I've been in a couple times now. The first was with my daughter. She had a maple bar and chocolate milk (the milk was cold and fresh tasting). I had a couple coconut cream ono donuts and a black pour-over coffee. So good! Last week I went in with my girlfriend's and we chatted for an hour as we noshed on our donuts. I tried a maple bar with pepper bacon... It was bigger than the basket it was served in! And the coffee was perfect again. My friend tried the raspberry filled and said the filling tasted fresh, she ended up buying a dozen before we left to take home to her family. DO NOT GO HERE!! If you're anything like me (I'm on a diet, but I have the self control of a monkey). This place is great. I came here once a couple weeks ago to pick up donuts for someone else, so I didn't give it much thought. Then last week at work I drew the short straw and had to pick up donuts on the way to work the next day. I stopped here only because it's on my way to work. I picked up a few donuts and remembered that the job site I'm working at doesn't allow food inside, so I had to find a way to disguise the donuts. I explained my predicament to them and they produced a box that didn't say donuts on it. Yes!! I took my donuts to work with the intention of eating only one. 3 donuts later I figured out how addicting these things are. So much better than anything else I could have brought. The taste was incredible. The texture was amazing. My coworker exclaimed "These are the bomb!". He's much younger than I am. Back to the donuts. I came in today and purchased another dozen and got 6 free. Holy wow!! These donuts were just as good as last week's. Between the great service and the amazing donuts they've earned another customer. Ok, now for the rest. The building is easy to get to with plenty of parking. They have a drive thru, but I wasn't able to use it so I can't say much about it. The pricing is a tiny bit higher than I like for donuts. But then again there's a reason Mercedes cost more than Hyundai. Treat yourself to some donuts.
