The burger was one of the best I have had in years. I could barely finish it. My wife got chicken quesadillas and so could not finish them. The drinks and craft beer was excellent. The standouts were: cheese curds, green beans that tasted like they were cooked on a wood fire, and the warm toffee Bundt cake (BY FAR THE BEST). Food is very good, And service is friendly, But in the winter, You cannot take your coat off. They don't have heat on. . It is 35 degrees out and all the heat is a electric fireplace heater. Covid-19 restrictions were Stage 2 and outdoor restaurant seating was just initiated. We visited the Padre Pio Shrine in Barto and we were looking for some place to eat. Initially my idea was to order the food and eat in the car. But I noticed that other diners were eating outdoors. Despite a torrential downpour, my husband asked the server if we could enjoy our food outside under the umbrella tables. The server graciously wiped the wet tables and chairs. The food was very delicious. So fresh and delicious burgers were ordered by my daughter and husband. My rueben was delicious. My son ordered a delicious Italian dip. This was our first and LAST time visiting this restaurant. First off, the wings are great but that's about all they had going this evening. As we were eating our appetizer of wings, our main course came out. We had to put the main course aside so we could finish our wings. Let's move onto one the main dishes, Fish and Chips. The battered fish looked like it was fried in the oil twice and was so dark and dry it just wasn't really edible. Be ready to pay .50 extra for the tarter sauce with the fish (nice addition when the check came). The second main dish, BMO Bacon Burger (asked for medium cook). The burger was so well done that it had no juices and no taste. Plus, the cheese wasn't even melted. The homemade fries were so burnt, they weren't edible either. Since my last review, I've eaten here a few more times. There are many vegetarian options, usually at least one soup, a burger, and more. I thought there bean burger had good flavor but I wish it had a firmer texture. I'm itching to try the cheese curds, but whenever I'm in they aren't. Olde Congo Hotel is a lost gem outside of Boyertown. This small bar & restaurant would appear to be a normal watering hole, but the outside appearance is deceiving. Olde Congo Hotel has a unigue menu or the typical bar-style options such as burgers, sandwiches, and wings. The food, however, is above par and rival that of some national chains. Wings - the best in the area. The wings are 10-fold better than Quaker Steak & Lube. The wings are large, meaty, and full of flavor. The flavor options are the normal hot, hotter, and such, but also include unique and special flavorings such as raspberry habanero or spicy jerk chicken. I can go on and on about the wings. I could go on about all the food, really. Nothing is bad and the portions are great for the money. The Olde Congo Hotel has nightly specials for wings, burgers, and tacos. Beer? Oh yes, they have that too. I am not sure how many taps they really have, but there is enough to have a few known favorites plus another 6-10 craft beers; all on tap! If it's not on tap, then it's probably in a bottle; both local, national, and craft beers. If they ever have McKinney's Black-cherry Cider on tap - order it! The bottom line - my wife and I end end regretting not going to Olde Congo Hotel after we've eating at other restaurants in the Pottstown area. read more
