I feel compelled to write another great review for Ron and his team at Unique Auto. I have an old car (2012 Kia Optima hybrid), and yet again, Ron came through for me in ways that other car shops just didn't. My car started having very dramatic issues around acceleration, that included a couple of terrifying drives. Thinking it was most likely the transmission, I took it to a transmission shop. Basically, after driving it for like a minute or two, they just handed my keys and told me there was nothing wrong and basically that there was nothing they could do to help me. I was stunned to hear this, as I had barely gotten home in the car the day before. I came to learn that the car has to replicate the problem in order for them to capture the codes, and they basically didn't want to put in more than a minute or two trying to help me. So, I went back to Unique Auto. Ron and his team were patient enough to drive the car around until it replicated the issue and they were able to formally capture that the problem was the transmission. Then, they turned the car quickly for me, replacing the transmission for a full $2K less than my dealership had quoted me. On top of that, they had the car cleaned and beautiful when I went to pick it up (I can't imagine they do this for every car that comes in, but mine had been there a few days :) ). Car is working just great, which is amazing to me, because the problem had been so dramatic that I really thought it would never drive again. As someone who doesn't know much about cars, it has been such a help to me to have a trustworthy and skilled place like Unique Auto. It seems to me their first priority is to be helpful, not to just jack up the price so they can make as much money as they can off of you. I've had this experience with them now, multiple times. Cannot recommend Unique Auto more. They are a skilled, helpful, and very ethical shop. Thank you, Ron! read more

I want to make a big pitch for these guys. We just moved to the neighborhood and I'm genuinely so glad I found them. They are fast, reasonably-priced and very good at what they do. On two occasions I had to get my headlight replaced -- they were able to do it day-of at a good price. After that, my air conditioning died and I needed new tires. They were able to get me in immediately and they did an absolutely fantastic job. It can be hard to find a place to trust in this day and age. Jose (Shop Foreman) is very knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. I brought my car in just to have my tire pressures evened out (my tire pressure light kept going on) and he did it free of charge. A week later the light went off again, I took it back and Jose found a nail in the tire. He fixed the tire for a nominal amount and even cleaned the dust from all of my brake pads for free. He went above and beyond for me, I would recommend going there if you need your car serviced or repaired. read more

We met Ron and Jose through a friend earlier this year and have taken our cars there for service several times. They instilled total confidence with their work ethic, attention to detail, and honesty. They asked me to come in to see the suspension parts that needed to be replaced as well as which ones DIDN'T need to be replaced. On a second visit with another car, they let me know that I had about 25% left on my rear brakes. The dealer had had provided a work order to replace the breaks as they claimed we were at 5%. When the times comes to replace my brakes, I will choose Unique Auto, as they have earned my trust and my business. Another reason I like taking my car to Unique is that Ron and Jose are both very good with communication. They proactively provide updates on their progress. I always know where I stand and when the car will be ready for pick-up. read more

Until about a year ago, I was a long-time (over 10 years!) and satisfied customer of Unique Auto Center, taking my 1997 Mustang GT convertible for regular maintenance and the occasional mechanical repair. Then I started having a persistent electrical problem: my battery would die for no apparent reason. When this continued after replacing the older (but still under warranty) battery with a new one from AAA (~$100), I took the car into Unique. Over the next few months, Unique tested and tested, and replaced a few small things here and there (e.g., the battery terminals, etc.), charging me for the work each time (~$50). The problem persisted. I even had AAA replace the second battery with a third one under their warranty, but the problem continued. Then the bass range of my audio system went out. People familiar with Unique will know that one half of the office is dedicated to auto engine and other mechanical repair, while the other half is dedicated to auto audio repair. So I thought, Perfect!, Unique will be the place to handle this problem, too. And as it turned out, the two problems -- a dying battery and audio with no bass -- were related. As Unique eventually discovered, the soft top of the convertible had leaked near the rear window and into the well behind the back seat, shorting out the two audio bass amplifiers that Ford so foolishly engineered to be located there. One or both of the amplifiers first shorted enough to drain the battery, and finally enough to fail completely, knocking out the bass. Unique, who should have been especially qualified to identify and fix the two problems (well, really only ONE problem, right?) took many, many months to do so. But, hey, that sort of thing can happen, especially with electrical problems, right? So that's NOT the reason I can give Unique only one star; that's just the background. Here's why Unique deserves only one star: Ron, Unique's owner, claims to be an auto audio expert, and he performed all of the audio work himself. But first he said that he couldn't find replacement amplifiers at a reasonable price. I quickly found them available online from quite a few salvage companies, and had a pair (~$100) delivered to me, which I took to Ron. He couldn't get them to work, and told me that they were both bad, so I returned them to the salvage company and had another pair sent to me, which again I took to Ron, and again he said that they were defective. I kept those. By this point, I was headed out of town for a week, so Ron and I made a deal: he would replace the stock amplifiers and tuner components (but not the stock speakers) with new, non-stock models comparable in performance to the stock system, and he wouldn't charge me more than $800 (I think that was the number) doing so. Further, he assured me that he would complete the job while I was gone and leave the Mustang in my driveway -- I live less than two miles away from Unique -- so that it would be there the following Saturday night when I returned. When I returned home on Saturday night, there was no car and Unique was closed. So, after staying in all Saturday night, on Sunday morning (when Unique was also closed), I took a cab (~$20) to rent a car (~$80) to get around. On Monday, I picked up the Mustang, which now had a new receiver in the dash that looked good (but a bit out of place in the Mustang) but sounded HORRIBLE. The new components provided no bass whatsoever, sounding even worse than with the stock blown amplifiers. And Ron had replaced the stock speakers without my permission. When I approached Ron with these issues, he refused to make good on the bottom line of our deal: that he would provide a system comparable in performance to the working stock system for our agreed price. Rather than fight any longer, I agreed with Ron that he would return the system to its pre-repair, blown amplifier state. But Ron would refund only $150 of the $800 that he had charged me. I now had about $1,000 into this situation, and nothing was yet fixed. Eventually, I finally did get everything fixed (for about $200 at American Upholstery; see my review there), and here's what else I learned in the process: (1) Ron had ripped out the stock speaker wiring, leaving in place wiring that was unusable with the stock equipment; (2) when Ron removed the stock speakers, he destroyed the cushioning/damping materials around each that, when absent, allow the speakers to rattle in the doors; and (3) not only did both of the salvage/replacement amplifiers work just fine, but one of the ORIGINAL amplifiers worked just fine, too (as, all along, only one of the two stock amplifiers was shorted out and blown). I feel sorry for José (the mechanical repair shop manager) and his employees, since they're good guys and I used to enjoy taking my car there. But as long as Ron owns Unique, I can't go back. And I hope that no one else does, either. read more

I used to go to the chain automotive shops to get my oil/filters changed, but I found out about this place & I've been coming here ever since. I've brought my car here countless times to have the oil changed, tires rotated & simply to keep up with the maintenance to ensure it runs well. They are highly reliable & very professional. I may not know a whole lot about the technical aspects of cars, but Ron, Juan,Jose & Frederick(who is no longer working there) always have a way of explaining it so I am fully aware of what the situation is & I'm not being misled or ripped off. Ron Shoaal is as honest as they come. He will work his hardest to solve your problem and help you out. I've been taking my cars to him for over 30 years. What he's done for my 11-year-old car is amazing . . . Nobody can believe it's that old because it drives so well. I've even had friends offer to buy my car at its age. Women, please be very careful...dealing with these people. They tried to rip me off with the price of fuel injectors for my car. Something told me to call the Buick dealer and get a quote and what unique auto was charging me was double and I brought that to their attention then they change the price to what the Buick dealer was charging and I told him that he was trying to rip me off. He charged $270.00 to install the fuel injector assembly. and I still had the same problem as I had when I took it to them. The price on everything that they said my car needed was way overpriced, fuel filter $16.99 they charge me $37.69 plus, PCV valve $3.49 they charged me $16.79, intake manifold gasket set $44.99 they charged me $68.79. I had to continue taking my vehicle back several times after I had paid them. I was charged $569.67 for parts that I don't even know if they even purchased the items, then I was charged $360.00 plus tax of $55.54 I was out of $985.21 and they stole my battery that I had paid $167.00 from AutoZone and they put in some battery that was not up to par, when I called them about it JOSE said that I couldn't prove that they stole it. I will NEVER do business with this place again. They ripped me off royally. From now on it's the DEALER that will work on my vehicle. BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THESE PEOPLE. read more
