Had a haircut given by Thi Chuong. This was an abysmal experience across the board. 1. She was upset that I canceled past appointments. Well I use the vagaro app to book my appointments and they request that I cancel at least 1 hour before. I cancel in fact 6 hours before or a day before. I have never kept the appointment and haven't shown up. She mentioned this at the beginning of my service and throughout the appointment that I have canceled appointments. I don't know what the deal is when I respect their time and cancel well in advance when my schedule is challenging. 2. She offers no advice or suggestions for the haircut. I tell her the way I want it and when I asked her if that would look good, she says "it's up to you". As a professional if she can't offer any basic advice, I wonder what the point of her is. 3. The name of the game is rush. She is in a rush to work on your hair and be done with you. I had very little to assess and see if I like things. She had done a poor job of blending the sides to the top in one spot. Instead of just fixing that and keeping the taper that I wanted on the sides, she just trimmed the sides with one number all over and the taper was gone. The result of this was that I got one of the worst haircuts of my life. No exaggeration here. I am a tech professional with tons of business meetings and I hate the way my hair looks. I tried this place based on her reviews on vagaro but I think she doctored those reviews. This is not a person I would trust your hair with. Avoid Thi Chuong at Unique Haircuts at all costs. I used to go to another place that I loved but they raised their rates by 10 bucks. I learned my lesson. You get what you pay for. read more

Once I had enough hair to worry about, I took a stab in the dark and found this place (just around the corner from my house). Thi took a look at my hair and offered suggestions for initial cut and style. Over the last few months she's continued to keep my haircut clean while offering suggestions for what to do as it continues to grow longer. Today was my first time here. I usually end up going to this cheap place near my apartment. Not coz it's cheap but, because I'm lazy. This time, I made an effort and went to Unique. I must say. This is the best haircut I have had in a while. They recommend styles to you and wait patiently while you decide. They also take enough time to make sure that the haircut looks good. I also got a beard trim and at most salons, they run a trimmer, then another trimmer to shape but, these guys used a shaver to make sure that even the smallest beard hair was gone. Thi cut my hair and it was horrible. The forehead line wasn't done even. She went over my hair so fast and left spots that I had to fix myself at home. How do you mess a haircut that's almost bold with a basic fade? Also she didn't clean well after she finished. I noticed lots of hair in my ear and around my neck. I tried my best to like this place for the past few months since it's close by, but they didn't seem care mush since they get customer anyway. I'm a positive person and I don't normally complain about simple things but this time I had to point out a few issues so they hopefully notice and provide a better service. This place knows how to cut a fade and knows what looks great on men. I had intended to get a buzz cut (I was frustrated with my long hair) and Thi was more than willing but she suggested leaving a little on the top for her to style. If I didn't like it, she would proceed with the buzz cut. Well she won me over with a great looking fade and short stylish top. Will come here again. read more

This is where I come to get my hair cut when I wanna look my sharpest. Thy is an amazing stylist, she'll cut your hair exactly how you want it, and even improve they way you want it to look with her expertise. Her customer service and fellow staff are also very talented and friendly, I've gotten my hair cut by Angel as well and she's great. I definitely recommend this place to all the males out there (as this hair salon markets themselves as a men's salon) but I do see female customers as well. Reducing rating from last time due to customer service experience. My appt was scheduled for the late afternoon and maybe Thi had a long day. I feel this is a good place to go if you know exactly the cut you want. If you are experimental and want to trying a new style, it throws them off. Also, I got a lecture in a condescending tone about washing hair every day and why men should not use coconut oil. Everybody is unique and making general statements like this is unprofessional. Thi cut my hair today. Second time. First time was okay, though not great. For the record, I don't ever post negative reviews but today I'm really not happy. Today, she was cutting so fast (faster than I've ever experienced with prior hair stylists) and completely messed up the back of my hair. It truly is the worst haircut I've had in many many years. I'm not trying to exaggerate -- it really looks bad and my family actually agrees too. I should have asked for a refund but felt bad doing so. I hope they reach out to me and offer that. My mistake. I was terrified of coming to the Bay and finding a new hairdresser. But when Thi first cut my hair, I knew I had gotten the best cut of my life. I tried another Bay Area stop and had my hair awfully butchered. I came to Thi looking for (1) a big turn around from my last cut and (2) someone who could give me a super fresh cut at a reasonable price. She delivered beyond my imagination. I swear, her hands have some insane laser precision. She's super quick, but does an overly thorough job, constantly checking my hair to make sure everything is even. The stylists are very rude and rush through to get more customers, when they first opened they were very different, but now their quality have dropped significantly.
