Sadly the service I requested was not what I paid for. I will first and foremost say that my stylist has honestly been awesome, no complaints whatsoever, until this point and I think that's why I'm so disappointed. I've spent $513 in the last 5 weeks to achieve what I hoped for and I ended up with my biggest fear - red hair. My grays had been showing since my appointment so within four weeks of my last color, which I have never historically had to do, I made an appointment to get my hair done again with my stylist Jessica and sent images of the color to ensure (and verify) they could match (so the grays wouldn't be as much of a contrast to the dark brown color I had). They let me know they would get my color and tone lighter and work with this image but couldn't guarantee an exact match to the color I requested, which I was okay with. I was sad when my hair was not only not lighter (as requested) but also had turned red from the color chosen. I should preface, when I first came into the salon I was worried about red tones in my hair, but I was assured by Jessica that would not be a problem and that's why I was so comfortable moving forward. Jess assured me (was very confident) that she knew what to do/ would mix the color with ash when I told her my hair tended toward red tones. I walked away from my appointment that was set to fix the problem in tears (again - red/auburn hair) and was told to use blue shampoo to try and fix it and when I asked to purchase some blue shampoo they said they didn't have any in-stock. I'm honestly just sad and so disappointed because I really like this stylist but there is no plan for remediation other than to use my own product (fortunately I happen to have blue shampoo), wait, and "not stress too much" (yes I was told this after my appointment and before I left the salon). So now before my family photos, and my son's first birthday there is no plan for remediation other than for me to wash my hair and wait. read more

Today I took a chance on this salon and THANK GOD I wasn't disappointed! I went to see Samantha for hair cut. I asked for a Lob and she delivered. I wouldn't notice this salon if it weren't for Yelp. Its location is on San pedro is hard to notice if you weren't looking or from the area. Samantha was kind, sweet, and friendly. She never made me uncomfortable and force her opinion on me. She took her time with the whole process and was so professional. My review is solely on this particular service. I will be coming back for hair color and more. I recently came to this salon for a curly perm. I ended up paying $125 for barely wavy hair after asking for tight curls. A couple of hours after leaving the salon, my hair went back to being completely straight. I ended up calling Uniquely Elegant Salon Spa to ask if I could get a refund or if they could redo it. They did not apologize, and they only hesitantly offered me a "free" deep conditioning, which costs $20. They did not make an effort to make up for the $125 I wasted and they refused to give me my money back. I'm sad that I chose this salon to get my perm because now I don't have the money to fix my hair. All this salon did, was expose my hair to harmful chemicals. If you can't afford to waste $125 at a salon, I wouldn't come here. I was also told that the salon would call me back and have a stylist "explain" to me why my $125 perm did not work and they never called me back. Total rip off. read more

After going to another "salon," I went home with butchered hair... I did some research and found Uniquely Elegant. I made an appointment easily for the same day and had Marisa as my stylist. She was amazing! She listened to what I wanted done, suggested what she thought would be good as well, and also gave tips on how to style it at home to get the best results. I went in here for a Brazilian blowout. I saw Dan. I thought they would be stuck up and snotty here due to the side of town and the building. However the front desk girl was very nice. My hairdresser was very down to earth and was very nice. She ask appropriate questions on the history of my hair before she went on. And was nice and gentle. Then I was dreading checking out as I thought they/she was going to pressure me into buying their products, but no. I've seen Lenne for a few years now. Every time I see her she ups the price and tries to sell me a new product. Her work is satisfactory, but nothing I'm wowed over. She is also rather rough on my scalp. Before my last appointment she tried to contact me to see if I could come in early and called one of my relatives when I didn't answer who also sees her, which was weird. Then she acted mad when I arrived for my appointment because I could not come in earlier. My hair is also yellow and orange this time which is not the look I'm going for. read more

I moved to Albuquerque and initially struggled to find a salon to perform a proper Brazilian blowout. I tried the internet to search, I tried Groupon, but the results were underwhelming to be kind. Coming from the east coast, with friends in Miami, and being Brazilian myself, I was overwhelmingly pleased to find Lene, the salon owner, who I am pleased to say gives the best quality of service and a treatment that feels better and lasts longer than any other Brazilian blowout I have received. After my experience, and looking to find a better quality salon for my nails, having been disillusioned with my prior salon, I gave this a shot with Danette. This review is for Greg Miranda at Uniquely Elegant Salon Spa. I walked in two days before I needed an appointment and the receptionist was very friendly and accommodating. Called the salon stating that I was interested in the Brazilian Blowout special that they have going on for the month of August. But that I wanted someone who has experience with ethnic/curly hair. Receptionist stated they had someone who could do my hair the next day at 10:00 am. After researching I saw that the average time you spend at the salon for this service is roughly 90 minutes. Because I have Ethnic/curly hair I figured it would take 2 hrs maybe a bit more. I was in the salon for 4 1/2 hours and at one point had TWO people working on my hair pulling in 2 different directions .I have shoulder length FYI. The lady doing my hair, although pleasant it was obvious she had little to no experience with ethnic hair. Also making the statement that once I'm done getting the treatment I will be "Becky with the good hair", which I find deeply offensive, as if my curly/ethnic hair isn't "good hair" I gritted my teeth and smiled just wanting to get through the awful experience. After finishing the service, I was very underwhelmed by my hair. It felt lighter but that was it. My hair Looked almost identical to when I walked in but now very dry. I ended up paying not the 99$ special but 160 I'm assuming because of my hair type and how they struggled to do my hair. I did leave a tip because I'm courteous and do recognize that she "attempted" to do my hair and make small talk. I have never left a salon unhappy until today. I will not be returning and I recommend going somewhere else if you don't have what they might consider "good hair". I have a lot of friends in the area and will not be sending them to this place. I went to this salon months ago on a whim for a haircut. Stylist was in a bad mood short with me, and even though I wanted a small trim far more was cut off (sometimes happens) but one side was a half inch too short lop sided. I had one of my friends who usually cuts my hair fix it. I purchased their Moroccan hair package that I stopped using because it made my hair fall out. I finally grew my hair back out from the last visit. So today I called hoping I'd get a different stylist and was asked 6 times who cut my hair last time even though I told them I couldn't remember insinuating I'm not a loyal customer. Gave me to the manager who was less than friendly told me it'd still be $50 for a dry haircut after wasting my time hmmmmn' about it. Go to aveda skip the attitudes and lop sided cuts. The lack of professionalism and quality of services and products not worth it. read more

I had a second Brazilian blowout done on 3/23/19. I will say that although I love the blowout and what it does to smooth my both straight and frizzy wavy hair on the same head, I don't like the way I got treated. The first blowout lasted about six weeks, and the color faded early too. I called the salon to ask why, and spoke with the manager. We had a pleasant conversation, and she seems like a nice person. She offered me a discount for the second appointment (I didn't ask for one, and thought that was kind). I booked the second appointment, thinking that things happen and I will try one more time. (The stylist and receptionist didn't appear to like that I was receiving a discount but that was from the manager.) The stylist was defensive when I brought up my concerns. At first, she said the blowout was still there (it wasn't; I was back to flat ironing frizzy waves and the color was all gone). Then she blamed me for it coming out early. I was accused of not following directions (I have their written directions and follow them because blowouts are expensive!) of using the wrong products to take care of it (they sold me the official products, and I laid out a fortune for those), said I had too much buildup of product (I sometimes sleep with the intense treatment in my hair as recommended, and I didn't rinse it because of the morning appointment), and also said it came out because I refused and refuse to allow them to trim my hair, that the ends are 'dry and split' (I didn't want further arguments but I do get trims - only from one stylist I trust, and I don't want other stylists upset about it. A few years ago, a bad incident happened to me and my trusted stylist is compassionate about this. If she did Brazilian blowouts, she would be my only stylist to the grave). I was told that cutting my hair will 'make it grow faster' (scientifically false - all human head hair grows out of the scalp at an average rate of 5 inches a year and cutting does not change this set human pattern). The blowout and color came out from roots to tip, all over my head, and if I was 'doing things wrong' a cut would not have saved it. I wanted brunette hair color. The hair stylist said it would look bad and she didn't want to do it. She finally did color it a dark brown but not brunette. It is my hair! I went to a party that afternoon and my friends raved about how darker hair really suits me and the shine and feel was incredible. The stylist didn't protect my forehead, neck or ears from color staining with cotton batting or Vaseline, and got coloring in my earring area and over and in my ears, halfway down my forehead, and other areas where coloring shouldn't touch. She scrubbed some of it off rather harshly (my skin is still red) but it is still very noticeable. I took photos after I left, and had to use extra makeup for the party. There was color far below the hair line and in areas color shouldn't get to. The stylist had me sign a paper basically stating what is listed above, which was due to her defensiveness and trying to blame me (trust me, even with a discount this is pricey and I want to take care of it). After a lifetime of bad hair, the Brazilian blowout is amazing (while it lasts). The service was the opposite. read more

I have a very busy schedule and as a result haven't been to a salon in a year. I found great reviews for this salon on yelp. I must say, this was a great experience. I wasn't sure what needed to be done to my hair. However, Lene walked me through what she thought would be best based on my face, hair type, my busy schedule, etc. She was a true professional who clearly knows her trade well! I was fortunate to get a last minute appointment on a Saturday. Especially at a place that has someone that is willing to work with African American hair. My stylist gave some good tips, maybe told me some things about my hair that I didn't want to hear, but maybe needed to. She came across knowledgeable and comfortable and that means a lot. Was glad she didn't stick me under a dryer and actually blow dried my hair. The only thing was the somewhat rough blow dry. She really gets in there and has your head and neck pulled in all kinds of ways. I took it as she wanted to straighten it out as much as possible before the flat iron. read more

Love this place. Veronica has done my updo for my wedding, and gave me the cut I wanted but helped me to understand what would look the best with my type of hair as well. The ladies are personable and help each other out with their collective experience. They really know hair, so that's great. If you have a hair issue/problem they'll try to fix it without pressing products on you to purchase. Veronica did an amazing job on my long wavy and super dry hair. Its probably the prettiest cut I've ever had! I really felt like she listened to me and offered advice about my hair problems. She did an amazing deep conditioner that really made a difference in the shine and softness. She also did a split end treatment that I plan on getting regularly. My usual hair stylist who does not work at this location had gone out of town for the month and I needed to redo my Brazilian Blow Out. I purchased a Groupon and decided to try out Uniquely Elegant. The stylist, as nice as she was, failed. The real bummer was that she had stripped out what little Blow Out I had left before I went in so my hair was actually less manageable when I walked out! I contacted the manager the next day to tell her that I thought it was not done correctly, mistakenly or not, and she got very defensive proceeded to tell me that her stylists knew what they were doing. Two days later the Blow Out was tested by rather humid conditions that my other blowouts would've survived. My hair was frizzy and wavy just like it had been before my first Blow Out. I left a message for the owner that evening. The next morning someone else from the salon called me and asked very reluctantly when I wanted to come back in. Thanks but no thanks. Dirty, disorganized, overpriced. Do not wear nice clothes when going into this salon, there is always hair on the seat from a previous client. Do not plan on going anywhere after you get your hair colored because they leave hair color along your hairline that is visible and highly embarrassing. Their prices are never consistent, it goes up, up, up every time you go in. Not worth your money. read more
