Had a series of mishaps at the Chicago O'Hare Airport today and needed a the help of several different United Airlines employees to solve the issues. Connecting flight was cancelled due to weather. Talked to both Robin and Sameneh from the FiveOut team As well as two lovely ladies at the United Baggage office. Everyone went out of their way to help get my baggage located and back in my hands, and then get my flight booked later in the evening. While it was a long day at the airport, each of these folks put Customer Service FIRST and I so appreciated that! WAY TO GO UNITED!!! read more

I guess have have to give United 1 Star - Un deserved. My frustration on this airline has not been good. I travel almost every week and about 15 years ago I tried to use some point on United and was not a peak season - Seats were available to buy and could not use point - Unless I flew out 5 days prior to my cruise. Southwest - "No Problem" after many years if I flew United 2 Trip's - Might be a stretch. They never missed me leaving - So I Provide my loyalty to Southwest - A-Preferred Companion for many years now. Today I needed to go to SPRINGFIELD MO. And Southwest does not serve and I made the mistake to Try United again. After 3 delays and 2 gate changes - It cancelled - Line Over 100 people at Customer no Service. I have been using United Airlines for years. I have, like others, had a few problems over this time, but never a really bad experience. Recently, I bought a ticket for my disabled cousin to visit me during Thanksgiving - a short flight from Houston, TX to Lafayette, LA. A comedy of errors had occurred and the place where he stayed did not receive my confirmation reservations. My cousin was not on the flight and it was a non-refundable roundtrip ticket. I contacted United anyway to try and receive a partial refund. To my delight, I received a full refund even though I did not ask for it. Just for a credit for one leg. My preferred airline has been United for a number of years now for just this type of friendly service. I do a lot of shopping around for best airfares and it seems United is always one of those carriers. read more

I never check in luggage. Ever. I have never abused the carry-on policy of any airline I have flown. However, United thinks I deserve to be penalized for that. Why should I be inconvenienced to check-in _only_ at the airport counter as a result of buying a Basic Economy ticket? That is a step back in human evolution. read more

How is United still in business is beyond me. I get the weather related delays. There is nothing one can do about weather. Got on a flight in Indianapolis over Chicago to Milwaukee. In Indy they were like we are going to be late but no explanation why. They ended up being on time. Get to Chicago and the times changed 4 times. Yes ladies and gentlemen 4 times. Explanation: something wrong with the plane. Ok understandable but no one was fixing anything. Got on the plane just to be kicked off and told to wait for an update. Finally hours later: canceled flight I ask the lady what is one to do now. She advised me to go to the customer service desk. I got there and there is over 100 people in line. Update: while at the United desk I was given a paper that provided other travel options. I followed the instructions and I got a rental car with Hertz that was $209.00. I came home and then filed out out a request for a refund. Today i received an email that they will credit me $59.00. I then went online and checked a one way flight to Chicago and cheapest with United was about $140. United will not get a penny of my money ever again. Only United can sell you something and not deliver and get away with it. read more

Flying first class and power outlets in and around my seat are inoperable. Other seem to be working but the staff will not reseat me, even in coach, so that I can access a working power outlet. Worst airline ever. They pushed me aside and said they were too "busy" because we had a full flight. I was flying to Oahu and needed to get my bags put on the carousel in Oahu because I wasn't going to make it to my connecting flight. The agent told me that my bags would go straight to the final destination on my itinerary. I kept asking if there was any help I can get to have my bags pulled when we land in Oahu, but the agent rolls her eyes and acted like she was so busy when she literally JUST got to the desk. I was also traveling with my military gear and needed my bags off of the flight when I got to Oahu, but she was no help to me at all and made me feel like I was a burden to her. Thankfully the agents in HAWAII helped me and were very kind because it was literally just a simple fix. Idk why the agent in Chicago couldn't at least attempt to help but she really ruined my whole experience with United airline, along with the agent that checked me in at RICHMOND AIRPORT. (They all work with UNITED AIRLINE). Never again traveling with this airline. If I could give 0 stars I would. read more

I have flown with United a few times for leisure and for business without any hassle. However, I recently returned from a business trip to discover that my new carry on suitcase appeared as if it had been punted across a field. Understandably, I would expect a scratch or two throughout the loading process. However, my brand new case had a combination of five major dents and 20 scratches all over. Something that was five days old looked five years used up. I was not pleased that my $300 case was in such observed condition. I approached a United Airlines Agent to explain my situation. Upon looking at my suitcase, she questioned the existence of such damage. After I showed her the numerous spots, she continued to explain that it was normal for luggage to exhibit this quality and that this wear and tear was not covered under their warranty. If this was normal, how can I trust that my belongings with their airline? I expressed my dismay and she suggested that I call their support. I took the hint that I was not going to get any assistance from her. I decided to call their baggage help line in the attempt to explore more options. To my shock, the customer care representative had informed me that notice had been filed with my information and that my claim for damage had been denied. I further explained my reason for concern and the customer rep promised that he would call me in two hours or the following morning. Needless to say, no such call was ever placed and a hallow promise was made to drop my call. As a customer, its extremely disheartening to receive my belongings damaged and then be led through a purposeless gauntlet. My time and money were wasted. As the saying goes, get woke go broke. I cannot in good faith recommend that anyone fly United. read more

Terrible customer service at LGA airport! The ground staff was rude and impatient as much as the passengers. The flight attendants are much better but unfortunately that doesn't really help make up for another point. The seat selection online is hideous and if you are lucky you get roomier seat but if you are out of luck, you get stuck in a tiny seat in the middle. I hope I don't ever need to fly UA again! read more

Because I must be a glutton for punishment, I've flown United three (four?) times since the one-star review below. (Actually, my employer paid for a couple of work trips, but at least one trip was completely voluntary.) But I have to give credit where credit is due: These subsequent experiences indicate that United is slowly but surely turning things around. Getting rid of that Smizek character has to have helped. On these recent trips, there have been only a couple of late flights, and no missed connections. There was one two-hour delay at O'Hare, for which gate agents offered no explanation. That was pretty annoying. More importantly, no lost bags. But except for the O'Hare delay,United ticketing and gate agents have been very friendly, which seems like a big change. Flight attendants have been great, too--one even refused to let me pay for a Buffalo Trace. FWIW--and there is no accounting for airline pricing--United has been frequently been offering the best fares out of Cincinnati, at least among the non-discount airlines and at least on the routes I've been flying. United's got a lot of bad service to live down, but they're definitely making up for it in my book. So far. Consider this the most enthusiastic two-star Yelp review ever. read more

United Airlines new corporate goal seems to be "scam the customer by deleting options on the website, so your customer will be forced to upgrade their ticket or pay excessive fees at the airport counter. Insane that an Economy customer is unable to add a carry on or checked bag prior to check in and is forced to check in at the gate (check out) and get fleeced. I hope others will follow my recommendation and have their travel departments immediately stop using United Airlines for any travel needs. read more

We flew SAS from Stockholm. Layover at ORD with a United connecting flight back to SFO. Our boarding pass doesnt't show TSA pre check as we were on an international flight back to the States. We went through the regular TSA line. Later, an United station agent looked busy but I asked him if he could answer my question re: priority boarding. He said we could show our United Mileage Visa credit card. I said thanks. As we had four hours to wait around, hubby went into his United app. There it was - our TSA pre check boarding pass for our connecting flight home. And our priority boarding. The lesson for us - check our United app once back in the States. On another note - we had a young flight crew based out of LAX fying us from ORD to SFO. We can't recall the last time we were served by a young flight attendant crew on United. Refreshing. read more

As a frequent traveler United is the only airlines I fly. This is due to status and not because they are the best airline. Once you gain status with an airlines it is hard to fly on another airline and get the normal travel experience. The new regional planes are more about making money than for passenger comforts. Even when upgraded it is not the same as it was 20 years ago. The food in all classes is survival food and nothing you would go to a restaurant and pay for. The one positive is the new inflight entertainment on most of their flights. Being able to watch either movies or a selected TV show on you own device is a giant leap forward. I hated the old way watching some silly movie on the minutes screens on the seats or the fold down screens from the past. Customer service on United is always a problem. Despite being extra nice I have definelty encountered the grumpy employees which can ruin a good flight. It is a common problem which corporate has yet to solve. Sadly I doubt it ever gets better. Flying is a thing I have to do for business. If given the choice I drive as flying is just not the fun experience it should be. read more

This is more a review of O Hare Concourse C rather than the airline itself. I travel a lot on business, this is one concourse where you would be better off reading a book or drinking rather than getting some work done. First of all there are no work or desk stations, you're best bet is to go into a restaurant like Berghoff's, buying a sandwich and then working on one of their tables. The concourse itself is crowded, it can be a challenge finding a seat. I was at gate C-22 waiting for a flight to Houston. This plane was a 737-800W but yet there couldn't be more than 30 seats in the concourse, and this was 90 minutes before boarding. Other than Berghoff's, food choices are pretty much grab and go. Crowded, dirty and limited seating. It takes a bit of effort to go with the flow in this concourse. I spoke too soon, my flight to Houston was delayed at least 4 hours 45 minutes due to maintenance issues. read more

I feel bad about all of the negativity that this airline gets, as I haven't experienced anyone of a rude or negative nature in any of my travels with them. I wanted to just be sure and give some kudos for the attendants on my flight from Chicago to Boston on the morning of 3/20/2018. I believe it was flight #992 ORD-BOS We departed on time, and arrived to our destination a few minutes early, and without any turbulence that I can recall. Anytime there was some sort of complication, I always had a staff member try to help and/or resolve my issue. I am forced to fly United because they are pretty much the only option for a direct flight to Chicago. Yeah, there are other airlines but the times don't match or there are layovers. I fly United on average once a month and every time I feel like cattle. The employees seem miserable too, which is not a good sign. Don't love United. It seems like 20% of the time I fly on United I end up with a broken seat, or a TV that doesn't work. Today I flew on an old 757 with a sticky seat. I had to ask for a wet towel to clean it up. I have Gold Mileage Plus status. So I get lots of perks. Many of the Crews on flights I frequent know me by name. I almost exclusively fly this airline for work. I have flown many airlines, and the Major Airlines are equally crappy. Try a Discount airline, you're going to see the difference. read more

This was great. Perfect international trip, although they keep doing bad things to their customers at times so I've read.... I'm very lucky nothing happened to me and my cat. 2 bags in the belly and 2 small bags up front plus I had my cat with me and it was under $500. Amazing! We made it out alive even with such small leg room, but that's what happens when hurricane harvey hits and makes the airline give you only one flight option change and its 14hrs long.... it was still great because I got too see the SF airport and wow, was it beautiful. I am extremely disappointed with United. Last week I traveled from Sacramento, Ca to Charlotte, NC. I called ahead of time to inform them that I would be traveling with a service dog. The lady on the phone was awesome and moved us to bulk head seating and made a note that we would be traveling with the service dog. She assured me that the information would be on our ticket for the flight there and back. Our flight there was relatively uneventful but the flight back was horrible. We were scheduled to leave on August 2nd. We arrived at the airport and were loaded on the plane. After about 30 minutes they had everyone depart the plane and cancelled the flight due to poor weather conditions. When at the ticket counter, we asked for our bags to be pulled since our next flight wasn't leaving until the next day. We were assured that our bags would be in baggage claim for us. Well we showed up to baggage claim and nothing. We decided to give it until the next morning as we knew everyone was busy with all flights being cancelled. We came back the next morning to find out that our bags had continued on the journey to Sacramento. This meant we had no clothes or toiletries, forcing us to go out and spend money we don't have, just so we could have clean clothes. On Friday August 3rd, our flight was scheduled to leave at 4pm. The weather was not any better so I called United to check on the status of the flight. According to my United app, our flight was scheduled on time. When talking with United on the phone, the agent informed me that the flight was over 2 hours delayed coming into Charlotte which meant we would miss our connecting flight. Instead she agreed to move us to a flight leaving at 5pm which was on time. No problem because she said the boarding passes would be emailed to us. On the way to the airport several hours later, I realized that I never received the boarding passes. When I checked, we didn't have a flight booked at all! Luckily I was able to book the tickets last minute. When we arrived at the gate, we found out that my boyfriend and I were separated and I was in a normal seat. I talked to the agent and asked if there was anyway for us to sit together, or at the very least, sit in the bulkhead seating so I had more room for my service dog. The agent said that the service dog was not listed on my ticket at all and that bulk head seating was only for "disabled" people. I informed him that I am disabled, hence the need for a service dog. He said they could not accommodate me because everyone sitting in bulk head seating was in a wheelchair. This was irritating but I was willing to give those seats to people in wheelchairs. But surprisingly, when we boarded the plane, there wasn't a single person in a wheelchair. In fact the people in bulkhead seating agreed to move so that my boyfriend and I could sit together AND my dog would have more room. I am disgraced at how I was treated. I can't believe the audacity of your agent to look me in the face and lie, plus accuse me of not being disabled. Or maybe I don't "look" disabled enough for him? I was all set to write a positive review of United after my first flight, but now I could never recommend you to anyone. I am a service dog trainer and very involved in the service dog world. I WILL NOT be recommending you to my worst enemy. You would think with all the negative media on United in regards to animals that you guys might try to fix things and do things the right way. This large terminal was designed by architect Helmut Jahn, who also designed the O'Hare "L" station and many other buildings in Chicago. I've only flown with United once, but after this terrible experience I can say with confidence I will never fly United again. For starters, they don't allow a carry-on item without paying an outrageous fee. every other airline I've ever flown allows a personal item and an overhead carry-on. Not United. On top of this, the flight attendants were rude bums and I became sick because the refreshments I paid for were past expiration. There was also a strange black goo on the rear end of the seat in front of me, which with the minuscule amount of leg room was getting all over my knee. I will never fly United again. read more

The two-star average is exactly right, imo. You're going to have an awful time getting through security, but that's okay, you won't miss your flight because that will be delayed. And you won't be able to just get to the airport later because they won't be considerate and give you a timely heads up about your delay. Instead, they'll make the call a bit after you've have to leave home to avoid missing the cutoff to check a bag. then they'll push your flight back a few more times, making sure to send you infuriating spam about it--spam because it's useless e-mail, since you'll already be at your gate, and the news will just be rubbing in your face the long wait you have. It's literally the worst security setup I think I've ever been in, trips to central America notwithstanding. The line is insane, they only have a few lanes, and it's this crazy shifting maze of lines that twists around, so you don't know which route you'll take and you can't see how long it'll be until you're basically there. For United apologists, I do think it's appropriate to blame United rather than TSA. It's solely United's terminal and they control the physical layout, as well as flight scheduling, lack of signage, etc. I've been in lots of airports and terminals, the security is always TSA, so the only thing that's different here is United, and they bear the blame. Terminal 1 is theirs and only theirs, as far as I saw, so no shirking or shifting responsibility. Once you're there, if you need to get to concourse c give yourself plenty of time because it takes for.ever. Two stars because I eventually get where I'm going, they don't generally crash as far as I know, you can get a free checked bag if you sign up for their lousy credit card, it can be pretty cheap if you buy on one of their main routes well in advance, and I don't have to lug myself out to midway. Also, I know there's supposed to be a tortas frontera in terminal 1 somewhere, but I sure didn't see it. Give me American out of terminal 3 any day, where the walks to all gates go by tortas. Update, my flight kept getting pushed so I decided to make the mile walk back to tortas, hands down best part of my trip. Again, to United apologists, United controls the terminal and could spring for a sign after security telling people where different food options are. It's called customer service. Good thing I did get food because we sat on the plane for over 90 minutes waiting for them to get their [omitted due to indelicacy] before we finally took off. Getting inn the plane was the hottest mess of a boarding I've ever seen. You'd think they could get it right having had the extra two hours to prepare for this totally routine procedure, and also, oh yeah, because they do it ALL DAY EVERY DAY. I got on the plane and used the bathroom, but they hadn't turned on the water yet so I had to spend five minutes with the flight attendant prostrating myself and begging Great Expectations style for a bit of water to wash my hands. I should have kept the bottle he have me because during the 90-minute wait they most certainly did not offer us water or anything else other than silence and occasional false placations. read more

Dear Lord, where to start this review? Let's just say I have flown United quite a few times in the past four years, and the only constant about this airline is their abysmal quality, complete lack of customer service, and flat-out lying to consumers regarding luggage fees. Abysmal quality: boarding the planes is a game of skill as well as chance, since you may need to wait a while before boarding, regardless if you were there and waiting for hours on a connecting international flight, or just flying for the S+Gs of it to see a friend in Illinois. Either way, they handle people like they handle luggage. Complete lack of customer service: the latest trip I took required me to fly into ORD to then connect to Istanbul. Guess what? Had to wait one extra hour to board a plane from PHX to ORD, which made me late for my Istanbul flight... They had my whole itinerary and even confirmed it with me at the desk. That won't mean a thing, as nobody is responsible for anything at any time. Period! Wanna complain? Good luck, because there is nobody who can actually remedy anything regarding any complaint. Reserved seating? I don't think so. Broken media center or power plug? Too bad! Lost luggage on an international flight? Sucks to be you! Apologies for a lost international flight and the subsequent screw-ups apparently mandatory for a 'lost flight?' Don't hold your breath! Flat out lying about luggage fees: I will give only one example, although this is applicable to at least three international flights I took. I chose to fly with Turkish Airlines (bad idea and big mistake, but that's another review) BECAUSE they don't charge for a second piece of checked luggage, as long as it weighs less than 50 lbs. I was flying TA from ORD to IST and from IST to BUH. Meaning, about 88% of my trip was with TA, NOT with United. Guess what? TA may not charge, and they may be the primary provider, but United sure does, even though TA says they can't do that and the travel agency I used to purchase the flight said that this was considered a TA flight as far as luggage is concerned, since the final destination was delivered by TA, NOT United. So... got charged by United when I flew into Warsaw, TWICE on TWO separate occasions. Also got charged by United when I flew in and back from Istanbul. What kinda crap company is this? Seriously, give up this hassle and go into selling insurance, because you suck at transportation, customer service, and fall short of any decent expectation of honesty! read more
