As a facilitator for the front line workers of one of Californias top hospitals I always start my classes asking the group for examples of "bad customer service". Arms shoot up and everyone is always eager to share a story. Example after example people remember more stories or similar stories, laughing starts and I always have to end this part of the group. My service received on May 22/23 & 29th from the phone agents, desk agents and flight attendants will now be used as examples for my classes. It all started with an unapproved charge on my credit card made 2days prior to my vacation starting. Yes, when I saw the charge I instantly closed my account and contacted United. I spoke to Harvey. I was told he couldn't do anything but he said he would put a note to other United agents on my account, alerting them that my credit card was compromised and to not make any changes to my reservation. He told me to speak to the ticketing agent at the airport to get a refund and put back in my original seat assignment. Sue at United front desk couldnt help me get my original seats either and offered me no help at all other than to tell me "I can move you back but it's going to cost you more". So, because I technically paid for it, I had 1st class seats for a 2hr flight Roanoke Virginia. First Class, basically a bigger seat and that's it. We got asked half way through our flight if we wanted a drink and snack. I also wasn't asked if I minded, or was allergic, to the huge dog and owner they moved into the empty seats behind me. Did the lady and her dog pay for those two empty seats? I don't think so, but I was made to pay for mine. Now, it's time for my flights home. Day before my flights I go to the app to check-in and the app is showing No Flights Scheduled. I call and speak to a service rep and she says that she had no idea why my flights were cancelled but she was able to reinstated all my seat assignments without any problems or up charge. Fast forward, we check in for our flights to Richmond/ Chicago/Sacramento and get to to our gate and see the flight is 5hs delayed because they "have no crew". We were automatically redirected on another flight and seats randomly given to me. I saw I was separated from my husband and scanned a QR code by the gate, spoke to an agent who huffs & puffs to change our seats and put them together. When we arrive in Denver we rush over to our new gate and with a few minutes to spare we pre check with the agent confirming we didn't neef new bording passes for this flight to Sacrament. He doesn't even look at us and says "if it says Sacramento on it you're fine" and brushes us off. Well what do you think happens? We go to get on our flight, boarding passes don't work, and this POS starts acting like it's our fault we're holding up the line. Not only was his demeanor rude he separated my husband and my seats. Seriously crash landed in Sacramento which caused the crew to be unable to open the cargo door and remove our luggage. We only found this out after we were standing around 30-40mins with the other passengers in baggage claim. Finally luggage starts moving through and an hour later my husband and I are staring at an empty luggage conveyor belt. Our luggage was missing. Reported my luggage missing in that little room everyone hopes to never be in. The woman says your luggage is in Chicago, we'll text you along the way to keep you updated on where your luggage is. She even sent me a practice text. That was the first and last text I received regarding my bags. Before we left she said we'll deliver your bags probably by morning. By 9am and receiving no text and nothing on the app, I called the Baggage Recovery Center, gave my last name and confirmation number and he instantly told me my luggage was on its way to California and would probably be out to me by noon/1. By 2:30 and no word about my luggage I call the Baggage Recovery Center again and told the woman, Pria, that I wanted an update on my bags. She said "what's wrong with your bags". Conversation ended with her saying my bags will arrive in 6-8hrs. Which we all know is another way of saying "I don't know". In the end, my husband and I got home alive and our luggage did arrive a day later. But it's still unfortunate that the horrible feeling United has given me is trumping the joy I had on vacation. But that's how bad service goes, it stays longer and travels farther than good. read more

Where do we begin? Flew into Washington DC for a connection to Norfolk VA. 3 planes loading from the SAME gate at the SAME time...due to that delay, we sat in our plane on the tarmac for over an hour until a thunderstorm forced us back into the terminal. We got updates for the next 5 hours until they finally cancelled the flight. The terminal shut down and we spent a cold night in the terminal after rebooking the flight ourselves for 8am the next morning. Unfortunately, our first class ticket wasn't honored and we were shoved into economy , but at least we got there I guess! Coming home, the first leg was late, the food was cold but we made our connection. Flew into Sacramento on time, and then sat for over 30 minutes while the ground crew moved first one plane and then another while we waited for the empty plane to be moved from our gate. Four-hour United flight. Paid for in-flight Wi-Fi expecting basic internet access and had a terrible experience. The Wi-Fi didn't become usable until more than an hour after takeoff due to technical issues. After finally connecting, the Wi-fi still didn't work. apps like Instagram and TikTok barely worked, downloads wouldn't complete, and the service was not wjag i expected after paying for Wi-fi. If a service is sold as internet access, it should be functional for more than basic text messaging. At a minimum, passengers should be informed when there are major connectivity issues and offered automatic refunds when the service is unavailable for a significant portion of the flight. Very disappointing experience will not be flying united again. read more

Can't blame United Airlines for an ATC-related construction issue affecting flights into SFO. One passenger was being extremely rude, cutting in front of people who had already been waiting in line, acting as if she was the only person affected. Latoya, on the other hand, was incredibly professional and patient while explaining the situation, something that was completely outside the airline staff's control. Even though my wife's and my connecting flights to SFO and Zurich were delayed, the team was clearly working hard to help everyone. People really need to understand the difference between what employees can control and what they can't. We had the worst experience with United Airlines and will NEVER recommend this airline to family or friends. We were flying to our son's wedding in Italy. We purchased our tickets way in advance and at 4 AM the day of our flight part of it was canceled by United Airlines. They rescheduled our flight, but again they messed up by giving us something that wasn't physically possible. So we had to call customer service and got downgraded because they had nothing else along with unacceptable long layovers. The refund and compensation was totally unacceptable due to the stress and inconvenience caused. Flyers be ware they don't care!!! read more

Flight from Chicago to Sacramento. It was an uneventful flight, which is what you want. The flight left on time and arrived early. Boarding went smoothly. We were in boarding group 4 and there was still room for roller bags. On flight they came with full drink service twice and water service once. The snacks they gave out were good. Fruit bars, something, and a chocolate snack. We didn't purchase any snacks on board. They had free movies if you used your smartphone, I forgot earbuds so I couldn't listen. No turbulences so it was a great flight. read more

NEVER, EVER, EVER will I book a package trip with United Packages or Booking.com again. This trip turned into a nightmare thanks to the complete incompetence of United Airlines Packages and Booking.com. I'm a single mom of three. I saved and worked hard to plan a special trip for my son's 16th birthday -- something he'd remember forever. Instead, it turned into chaos, stress, and heartbreak -- and ended up costing me thousands of dollars more, all because of their miscommunication, negligence, and complete lack of accountability. I booked and paid in full for flights and hotels for four people to Japan. Everything was confirmed. But the moment we arrived, the entire trip unraveled. At our first hotel in Tokyo, I was told the reservation was only for 2 people, not 4. I had to pay extra out of pocket just to stay the night. I assumed it was a one-time glitch. I was wrong. At the second hotel, it got even worse -- Booking.com hadn't paid the hotel at all. I had to pay for the entire stay again, or we would've been out on the street. No help, no apologies, no accountability. At the third hotel, again, our reservation was only for 2 people. They wanted to charge me for a second room just so my kids would have a place to sleep. I was done. I had no choice but to cut our trip short and fly home early, devastated and drained. Since coming home, I've been begging for help -- providing all the receipts, screenshots, proof of payments, and charges. But all I've gotten is the runaround. ZERO REVIEW-UNITED INTERESTED IN PROFIT NOT PEOPLE PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE will someone call me back? Shortly after a door flew off a Boeing 737 in January last year, my wife and I were delayed 3 days in Newark, NJ. I have spent over 30 HOURS talking with United Airlines Baggage Specialist departments, and emailing with customer service representatives over the last several months. I cannot even receive reimbursement for our food, clothing, and hygiene products we had to buy ($569). I have emailed the receipts to customer care. Customer care continues to say United baggage department will care for these receipts. Then United baggage says something entirely different. Tonight in my (3hours and 7 minute) phone conversation, I did receive a new reference number for my wife to be compensated. Jerry, a baggage specialist, gave me the number Xxxyyyzzztttyyy When I was transferred (by Jerry) to the department that he stated was going to handle my wife's compensation, the next specialist stated she only dealt with "POST BAGGAGE COMPENSATION" and that I needed to speak to someone in "MID-TRAVEL" baggage compensation. I asked to be transferred to said department, and the United rep said, "that they do not have a phone number for mid-travel baggage department as it is just like United Customer Care and does not have a phone number ". My wife and I are disabled retired missionaries. I have been treated so poorly by United Airlines that I have asked a local news station in Sacramento to help me look into this matter. United Baggage compensated me $250 in the form of a travel voucher. Tonight I was told that my wife would be compensated the same $250, that's it. When I was transferred again with the new reference number mentioned above with absolutely no resolution. I was told that Customer Care would need to pay for our dining receipts and a division of United Baggage would pay for our clothing and hygiene products. An attachment for the $250 compensation to me said that by accepting it United was released in any further interest in the matter. But I had no way of not accepting it as it was credited directly to my miles account. So, to recap. We checked in at Newark airport on January 10, 2024. We turned our bags in at the check in. The flight was initially delayed 8 hours. We did not have access to our clothing or travel items until we finally arrived in Sacramento on January 12. United did give us a small amount of food vouchers for the 2 nights and 3 days we were stuck in the greater New York area. The vouchers almost paid for each of us to have one meal a day. Can someone from United Airlines call me and make this right, please? All I am getting is a complete run around. I just don't understand how a company with such a good reputation as United could completely care less about our flight delay of 3 days? Flight from Sacramento to Chicago was okay. The plane had those seat screens to watch movies for such a long flight. They provided snacks which weren't that great. The good thing about their beverages were that they gave you the whole can or bottle. The flight back to Sacramento however was different. We got an older plane. There were no seat screens and the seat chargers didn't work. Which resulted in a kid behind me throwing a tantrum due to boredom the majority of the flight. They used a third party airline, air Canada for the leg from Reykjavik to Toronto, and Toronto to Washington DC. We were trying to determine our seat assignments for the Canada segments because they weren't reflected. After much time chatting with UA their response was call Air Canada there's nothing they can do to help me. Here's a news flash, I didn't make my reservation, you did. Corona response plan: Fill plane to capacity Yep! The plane was filled to capacity. We flew from SMF to DEN for a change of planes then on to SGF. We took a smaller plane to Branson MO. We have a WorldMark resort there so that will be our home for 4 nights during the Labor Day weekend. We had such a bad experience on our first time flying United that we were hoping for a much better experience this time and, guess what? It was actually better this time. Traveling changes during COVID-19: Boarding fewer customers at a time. After preboarding, the rest of us boarded from the back of the plane to the front. We were given a packet of a sanitizing wipe as we boarded. Snacks and water were provided during the two hour flight. We were also given a choice of soda or juice. When we deplaned we were in groups of five rows at a time so less crowding. We were required to wear masks throughout the entire flight. Last month we flew from New Jersey to Sacramento. We paid $2500 for two first class tickets. The entertainment system on the plane was down and all the power outlets were not working at the seats. The service and food were well below average. On top of that, when we arrived in Sacramento, one of our bags had the wheel ripped off and my golf travel bag had several rips in the material. Our third bag ended up in Cleveland. I repeatedly complained to United and they extended a $100 flight credit which was a joke. We will never fly United again. Crazy Trip From Sacramento To Houston On Cramped Jet SITREP I really miss the 90s when jet-travel meant better customer service, more in-flight amenities, not getting nickeled-&-dimed for every aspect of the flight, etc. etc. etc. THE SETUP If you haven't traveled on United Airlines ("United") recently, not only is: * The extra 2nd carry-on bag monetized; but, * So is the FIRST bag of luggage; and, * So is your boarding group to get onto the jet; AND, * So is your seat position in the jet aircraft itself. Wherever there is a category aspect to air travel (boarding, luggage, seating, aisle vs. windows, etc.), there is now a separate $ dollar-amount attached to it. DOMINO EFFECT This is where traveling United really requires you to cross-reference your entire itinerary. On this specific flight, I had LESS than 45 minutes in a layover to catch my flight - ON United no less - from Houston to Savannah. If the layover had been 2-4 HRS, I could care less about my placement in the boarding group, or where I sat on the plane. Literally, the worst experience. I had a flight with a layover. The first part of the flight was canceled the week of departure. You have to rebook that portion.. There was some verbiage that they or you will rebook.. The flights available to make it to my layover to my connecting flight weren't feasible. I tried calling. The wait was typically over hours. To chat with an agent-- hours. I could open a chat at 11am and not get an agent until 730pm. When I finally spoke to someone and I explained my first leg of my trip was canceled.. the agent did not have that information. I said I received a text. The info on my app shows it canceled. I was never rebooked or told other than it was canceled. How does their agent not know this information? Further investigating on the agent's part, I am correct. I bought a non refundable ticket so I cannot be refunded. Even if they canceled the first leg of the flight? It's non refundable. If I did not hold my ground on this issue, I'd be assed out. If there is no reasonable flights to make a connecting flight to replace the one that was canceled on the company's side, why would you tell me I am not eligible for a refund? It doesn't feel good to have to complain. I would purchase a refundable ticket if it was possible to cancel on my part but when they cancel on you.. that's a different story. If they cancel, I should be able to get refunded. Ultimately, I got it.. but it took quite some time trying to speak with anyone and then convince that person I deserve a refund. read more

The check-in counter was easy to check in except for once you follow the computer screen prompts to check in it tells you to wait for it and send it, no one showed up. How are you to 10 or 15 minutes and still no one showed up so I just walked up to the counter and they did it there. Flying on United last week, headed to continue more fireman training in Texas. Discovered my seat like this. Flight attendants didn't want to give me anything to wipe this mess up with. Made me wait for 20 minutes to get a wet paper towel. One I cleaned it up, it took another 20 minutes to take the dirty towel. Then when she had gloves on, she wouldn't take the towel from me. I was in the window seat and unable to get out, so I threw the towel in the aisle where it remained for another hour. I reported this inside the to United's website and have had very little contact. You guys are amazing and have always gone above and beyond for our family. When Crowdstrike had its avoidable disaster and a family member was stuck in Denver because all systems were not go, United stepped in and helped them get a hotel room. And when a family member purchased economy plus seating for another family member because even though they were a 1K member, they didn't know if you as a 1K member are flying with family members, those family members are able to receive economy plus seating without paying for the upgrade from economy seating, you informed us and you refunded us!! So I am a United 1K who was used to flying out of a United Hub. I moved here from SF a few years back and I was not looking forward to flying out of a smaller non-hub airport. I should have written this review earlier, but I can tell you that I have not had a bad experience with United here at SMF. The staff are always friendly and very attentive. I have come to know many of the staff members who often greet me and remember me because of my constant travels. I typically get to the airport for the first morning flight. I tend to get to the airport around 3-3:30. The ticketing counter does not open up until about 3:45 - 4:00 AM. The lines to the ticketing counter are well laid out. There is a 1K/Polaris line, a Premier line, and a general line. When they open up in the morning, the lines seem to move pretty quickly. Not once, have I had a bad experience at the ticket counter. Moving through the airport after check-in, you go upstairs to the TSA security area. As is standard, there is the general TSA line, a pre-check line, a line for known crew members and airport employees, and a premium/first class line. After getting to the United gates, they have the lines laid out with the different boarding groups 1-5. As is customary, they call out the pre-board groups which consists of people who require assistance or extra time with boarding, active military personnel, Global Services, family with children 2 and under and then the boarding groups. It's a very smooth boarding process in my opinion. This week however, United instituted a new boarding process with the typical pre-boards and now 1K members are part of the pre-boarding. Group 1 includes Premier Platinum, Gold, and those seated in premium cabins. Group 2 includes Premier silver, United branded card members, and those who have purchased Premier Access or Priority Boarding. I flew out before the changes were instituted so I boarded with the old United process. I'll update the experience at SMF when I take my next business trip. The gate agents are the same agents that I often encounter at the ticketing counter so I always get the same level of friendliness and attention that I am accustomed to. Whenever I return, I usually check bags so I have to go to baggage claim. I'm sure most will agree that it can be a frustrating experience. It's kind of a hit or miss in terms of TTCB, Times to Claim Bags. If I fly in at a time when there are no other arrivals, I have gotten my bags in as fast as 10 minutes. Whenever my flight arrives with other flights, then it can become a lengthy wait. That is more a component of the airport infrastructure and not United itself. The only thing that I could ask for from United is a better notification system of which baggage claim my bags will be sent to. Often times, I wait at baggage claim 1 and then I have to pay attention to which carousel starts up and then I have to look at the monitor on top of the carousel. I wish that United would announce on the PA or even show on the arrivals board. I honestly have nothing bad to say about the United team and experience here at SMF. I have to say that the team here seems to be a lot friendlier and pay more attention to you as a customer than at a larger hub airport where you can get lost in the multitude of travelers. I love to fly out of SMF now and I am grateful for the positive experience every time I fly into and out of SMF. read more

We booked our honeymoon trip 4 months in advance & had our seats together but when we got to the airport, they moved us. Its not our fault that families didn't select their seats as they purchased their tickets or that families bought tickets knowing they didn't have seats together, I understand that families with small children need to stay together but why did you punish us? They family sitting next to me didn't even have small children, they had 3 teenage boys, you could have moved them but instead my new husband & I had to sit on 2 separate sides of the plane...ON OUR HONEYMOON!! To add insult to injury, we we're on a 5 1/2 hour flight & all they served was a wafer cookie the size of a quarter & a small drink. Really?? Fast forward to our arrival, like I said earlier, you sat my husband & me on separate sides of the plane so we had to exit 2 different sides of it so we started our honeymoon at our destination actually looking for each other in a strange airport. Last time ever flying United. Fare was purchased thru work, no way to do anything other than basic economy. Then try to check in and it says I have to check in at a kiosk because I have no bag. Get to airport and attendant says I have to check my tiny carry on for $35. Pay the $35, get thru security, sit down, check boarding and find I'm in the middle when I reserved an aisle. If I could give no stars I would. Do better United. No wonder you will never ever take the top spot, ever again... read more

I have an accommodation and flown several times with it so I knew I couldn't check in at the self checkout and explained my situation to her. she still insisted I check in at the self checkout and told me she would help me. after attempting for a while she still couldn't check me in at the self checkout like I told her so she told me to check in at the check in desk like I tried to in the first place. so she wasted a lot of my time holding me back for no reason. also after I checked in, I was told i had to wait around the check in area for awhile and couldn't go thru to my gate yet until they confirm my luggage read more

Horrible customer service at the kiosks. I choose not to check in any bags and thought my check-in experience at the kiosk would quick since all I needed was my ticket. Wrong! I put in all my information and the kiosk asks for a United Rep to scan their ID in order to verify that I have no carry-on bags. I waited five minutes, saw the United Reps help out many folks who did have luggage. When I saw no one was coming, I asked one of these Reps to help. She right away says "Go check in on a kiosk, then I can help". I told I was at kiosk. She said "Go to a kiosk where everyone else with check-in luggage is using". I told her I don't have any check-in or carry-on luggage; I only had my personal item. She ignored me at that point and helped out someone with their luggage. If you're checking in luggage, then maybe you'll get a better experience than me. After a few more minutes, I found another Rep. She basically gave me an attitude as if I was inconveniencing her. I was the easiest guest to help - I only needed my boarding pass **face palm** I haven't used United in decades and now I'm seeing that I haven't been missing out on anything. read more

WORST AIRLINES AND CUSTOMER SERVICE.!!!! My wife bought two emergency tickets, I had sworn never to fly United again. United Airlines - Waiting. - Airlines Near Me - Sacramento, California

On my way back to Sacramento, I pressed the button for assistant. After 10 minutes, the assistant comes over and inquires who pressed the button. I kindly requested for water. because the airplane was super hot and I was getting headache. The flight attendant stated she'll give water when it's my turn. Anyways, that took additional 15 minutes. When it was my turn, then I requested water and juice which they served warm. I requested for ice and additional glass of water since I was dehydrated. The attended looked at me and said I just gave you water and juice. I showed him empty cups. He was shocked that I dranked both in less than a minute. Everyone in the plane were complaining it was utterly hot. And the attendant were serving everyone room temperature drinks. Recommendations: Please turn on AC in the plane and give water upon requests. Customers can die with dehydration up in the air. read more

Terrible airline, terrible customer support. You better hope there are ZERO complications to your planned flights or you will be dropped like a hot potato and ignored like a panhandler. Waited 2 hours for a customer service representative only to have them sit on the line, unresponsive, for 15 minutes before I hung up. Cross your fingers you only need to book the tickets and all goes as planned or you're in for the worst airline of your life. read more

Great job, United! There are some places in the nation where it just makes sense to fly United. Some of the smaller airports in the Northern United States only have 2-3 airlines to choose from. In my recent travels I picked United and hoped for the best. I was blown away by the amount exceptional service! I came home ready to make United my airline. Let me point out a few WOWs. My first flight from Sacramento to Denver. It was very easy to get in and off the plane. I had multiple choices for in flight entertainment (including a screen in front of me with Bluetooth capability). United is partners with TMOBILE which meant free WiFi for me. Denver to Bismarck was a smaller plane with great service. On my way home, United was able to put me on an earlier flight with no price increase. It was super easy to change my flight from the use of their app. Along the way they texted me gate changes and had great communication. Thank you United Airlines! read more

Update to prior review for United. Magically after my post they "found" the missing luggage. It was tagged to a non-existent Alaska Air flight. But they wouldn't give a delivery date or time. To be sure of getting the luggage they make you drive from Sacramento to SFO before midnight to have a chance of getting it before they put it in their delivery queue to be delivered at some future , unspecified date--with no guarantee it wouldn't be mysteriously lost again. But this experience is what I've come to expect from United. read more

I am so tired of being nickel and dimed. I recently had a flight and my bag handle was busted on arrival. I didn't notice until after I picked up the bag from their bag claim office in Sacramento. I was sick, exhausted, and then had to dig out of a mountain of work. By the time I was able to call it was beyond their arbitrary 24 hour rule by a few days and they wouldn't give me any compensation at all for the broken bag. This, combined with constant delayed flights, I think I am just not going to fly United. I hope their company crashes or that maybe the workers take it over. These businesses ran to the ground by accountants and lawyers are so frustrating. My bag was on Flight 2468 to Denver and then Denver to Sacramento. I however was put on Flight 1870 to SF and then Sacramento because the original flight to Denver was delayed due to not having pilots.... But you already know United is not the best. read more

Ah United Airlines. How nice is it to write reviews on our favorite airlines. For a good moment I actually stayed away from United because of the scandals that happened a few years back. Recently the airline has made great strides in improving customer service and passenger first attitudes. I fly in and out of the bay to visit family and normally fly from SFO or SMF. (San Francisco, Sacramento International) I love the connecting flights, especially the ones to SFO and LAX since I'm able to enjoy the United Club lounges there. I remember flying with Pan Am back in the day. There was that excitement with the jet age and flying was fun. Now since I fly with United, I feel that same excitement experience I felt back in the early 80's. Majority of the time the airline is on time and is located in terminal A with the other legacy carriers of the US. I can definitely say, I love the Star Alliance! read more

Horrible airline. Specifically took a simple flight from Sacramento to Los Angeles and let's see, flight was delayed, attendants were rude and arrogant, plane was dirty and smelled like feet. Actually scary that over head doors kept popping open and no baggage was even in them but the attendants could not get them fixed, what else is malfunctioning? Asked for bottled water got a cup of half way filled no ice Luke warm water. Bathroom literally had dried fecies and urine on toilet. Mirror looked like someone spit on it and no one cleaned it. I couldn't help but think this is the greyhound of air travel. Took luggage over an hour to get off loaded. Horrible airline I will NEVER use again. read more
