Excellent fresh bread selection. And excellent meat is what I generally shop for at United.

This morning we planned a shop early, eager for breakfast, too. My wife, a Novato Native and Mom, had to go pee. She asked directions to the bathroom and, IM NOT KIDDING, I HEARD SOME AHOLE SAY IT, "Got a receipt?" was the Customer Service this Sunday Morning May 3rd. Let's just LOSE CUSTOMERS DAY today, apparently. She said "They make the world a WORSE PLACE". WHOLE FOODS hot food bar mmmm delicious. I prefer their BALSAMIC VINAIGRETTE GLAZE anyway and she wanted the aromatherapy items we were looking at last time. Forget United. read more

I was a loyal United customer for 12 years. The store was recently bought by Molly Stone. I went there yesterday to buy an avocado only to find out the new price for their avocados is $5.98 per avocado. That's crazy! I found out that Molly Stone doesn't want to use the same produce company that United used. They would rather go with their own warehouse which charges much more for produce. They would rather pay more for their produce and just pass it along to the customer rather than stick with what was working for United. Can't they do what's best for the customers? It's a pity that I won't be going there anymore. read more

I don't buy from the meat department anymore, after getting ground pork that smelled bad when I got it home and another time, pork chops that were good the first time but bad the second. The produce section often has fabulous prices on quality produce, but they sneakily overcharge for items that should be on sale. If I pick onions from the bin with the sale price, how is it that I'm charged a higher price for a different type of onion? Most people aren't watching the prices as they're rung up, so the store gets away with it. This happens all the time! Are the produce people negligent about putting the correct item with the sale price? Or do they just post a sign so people think they're getting a good price? read more

If you are wanting a good birthday cake for someone get it here I suggest the fruit basket tres leche it was the best I got it for my boss for his retirement the cakes are so good the bakery is off the hook. May I also suggest the black and white cookie I love it the oatmeal is really good too and the chocolate cherry cookie the best but when it comes to cakes all of their cakes are wonderful very fresh. Good service good environment great people management is awesome and that's very important in a grocery store congratulations you guys!! Very close to our son's home, so we regularly have been customers at this local Marin County market. Parking is perfect and more than adequate for convenience. Easy to get in and out. Nice bakery when you enter, along with a coffee sipping area so you can enjoy your pastry before of after your shopping. Also facing you as you enter is a very nice selection of deli cheeses and meats. A full meat department through which you can order custom cuts of meats. As far as grocery stores go, United has just about everything you can think of. Lots of stuff, including fresh produce, wines, dairy, international goodies and plenty of cashiers so you do not have to wait toooo long to check out. Employees are receptive to your questions and will help you fine something you could not find on your own. read more

I like United Markets. They stock a solid selection of stuff you can't find in other markets. This review is on the deli, specifically the last two times I visited. Is it me or are the MEN in the deli super agro and annoyed. The last two times I went I got serious attitude like I was inconveniencing them as I waited patiently to order. I even said "I'm ok waiting, I see your busy". Not a good experience, I'm going to look elsewhere for my turkey sandwich from now on. read more

After reading Phil D's review of United Market, I'm compelled to come to the aid of the people in the deli. I live in San Rafael and only go there for the deli or to pick something up at the last minute. The deli is terrific, they have a wide variety of meat, and the people are very experienced, pleasant and know how to slice meat, even bresaola. United in San Rafael has always seemed like an uncared-for stepsibling to the San Anselmo store. They are understaffed in the meat and fish department, and they need to clean the store and the carts. read more

Overall, this is a good store to shop at. They have a great seatfood and meat section and most of the food is reasomsbaly priced. Not sure why but sometimes things are very expensive so you need to make sure to check the price on what you are buying. Alcohol seems to be expensive here. read more

Great quality produce for the same price as nearby grocery stores. I remember going grocery shopping here with my mom when I was younger and their quality hasn't changed. I am tired of spending a lot of money on produce that tastes horrible or gets bad within a couple days. Recently I bought red grapes, fuji apples, peaches, tomatoes, baby carrots, and oranges. They were all delicious! Everything is well stocked and organized. There are no long lines at check out like Whole Foods and Safeway. The checker was very friendly. I will be doing all my produce shopping here from now on. read more

Be sure to check the dates on every single item that you buy, they are not good about removing expired items. Especially things like yogurt and fruit. Their deli sandwiches are good, but their sandwich club is completely broken for years now and they don't do anything about it. Check out can be slow. read more

Amazing service and communication - need to find an uncut 2 lb wheel of Brie last minute and the "cheese guy" was amazing. Extremely helpful in special ordering it for me and found just what I needed. It was delivered to the store as promised and he followed up with a call to let me know it was in and where / how to find it if he was not there - great people and service ! Stopped shopping here after being treated rudely by staff. Its been a year now, I was in the neighborhood and thought Id pick up some of their delicious premade ribs. Also got a lavosh roll, not sure if theyre made on site but it was flavorless. no cream cheese and no flavor. hard to make a flavorless lavosh roll right? the ribs tasted like the meat was old. hesitant to eat it. I put it down after eating only one rib. The San Anselmo store used to be better, so Ill try that next time, if there is a next time. read more

(Customer experience during Covid-19 Pandemic) When we lived in Marin, United Markets was one of my favorite grocery stores I would frequent. They had a pretty good selection of hard to find items, prices were good, and the people who had been working there forever were genuinely happy to be there to help you. It's been almost 20 years since we moved and are no longer on my regular rotation of markets to shop at. I do pop in when I have business in Marin or passing through on the way home, and check the aisles to see if there is some obscure item I don't know I need. Staff is masked, the checkers and baggers appear to be wearing gloves for the most part. There is hand sanitizer available for your use. The person out front will hand you a clean and sanitized cart for your convenience. It's not terribly crowded either. Still a great place to shop and their prices won't sting your pocketbook. read more

I've shopped here for years. In the last year I've noticed that the fruits and vegetables have decreased in quality. Unripened fruit going bad before ripening. Tasteless produce. Yesterday I bought a pound of small shrimp. I opened the bag today and was shocked to smell ammonia! Ammonia. They tasted like chemicals and very bitter. Unusable. Let me say first of all, I love United. I have always had curteous, great service and fresh foods! Today I was charged for 2 turkeys whenI purchased only 1. It seems very suspicious to me that a clerk could ring up 2 $34.00 turkeys instead of 1. The entire contents of my order consisted of very few items, and only 1 meat item. I don't normally check my receipts that carefully, but when an expensive item stands out with 2 charges it caught my eye. Thank you so much to Willy O who corrected the error, even though he was not the team memberr who rung up my order. Customers need to be vigilent and cashiers need to be careful. After being under strict covid protocol, dealing with raging customers, going through all of the holidays, they are still smiling and honestly happy to help. It is a pleasure to go there even if some aisles aren't as stocked as pre-pandemic. They always try to order what you need if possible. It is a great, like family, market. Love the produce here but seems that the meat is not as fresh as it used to be. Prices are still decent but it's difficult to deal with people behind the counter, specifically the deli department. Their workers don't have a sense of customer service and are often rude. The restocking people at the produce department always seem to be in the way. I wish they will restock in hours where theres less customer traffic. read more

I appreciate this local grocery chain. Easy to park. All departments are well stocked with a selection of national brands & local purveyors. Their feta is delicious, customer service depends on which person you talk to but generally is terry good. Hard for me to be positive though when I just bought $15 worth of flowers which turned out to be covered in mold under the paper wrapping. DO NOT BUT BOUQUETS HERE. read more

This is a specific shout-out to United's espresso offerings. I'm here most mornings (7ish) and both Meraki and Filemon (I hope I got the spelling of their names right) are rock stars! It doesn't matter if there is one or 10 folks in line, they are on it.....from pouring plain joe to pulling espresso shots (double for me please!). They are friendly, professional and know both their coffee and the bakery.....so if you're in the mood for a special drink, sweet treat or a seedy loaf, ask them. Besides great service, good/strong coffee, and the general awesomeness comments below, the coffee can also be a dollar or so less expensive per cup than many other places in town. BEST produce of all of Marin, hands down. My family and I have been coming here for years, and nothing beats their produce section. The deli, meats and seafood counters are all very good as well. Some bakery items are a hit or miss. Their croissants are tasty and nice, and the lemon poppyseed muffin is a must PASS, don't get it. They decorate for each holiday. People working here are kind and helpful, and part of the community in San Rafael. read more
