There's a post office here? Despite being on a busy corner (Clairmont and Briarcliff) near an interstate (I-85), this United States Postal Service [USPS] branch is certainly squirreled away. The shopping center that this branch is in has to be home to the worst, most decrepit parking lot in all of Atlanta. Not saying this is the post office's fault, but it certainly doesn't help. Please drive slowly for your car's sake and for others because the layout is also confusing. I'm talking to you, Mr. Jerk-in-a-Mercedes-SUV. Anyway, the USPS is right behind Desta, to give you a reference point. In general, look for the corner with Popeyes and Bench Warmers. When I went in (masks required), I really lucked out since there was only one customer in front of me but she was super confused about delivery confirmation. Kudos to the sole clerk for remaining patient with her. Paris was cool and knowledgeable, but they seriously need more associates on the front lines. When I left, there were five people waiting to be helped, ugh. I felt bad for them. Besides feeling sympathetic, I was simultaneously annoyed since they were out of non-religious holiday stamps, and I had to make do with the most generic general option. Hmm, "Celebrate" stamps or "Thank You" stamps? Epilogue: I voiced these concerns in the survey linked on the receipt. Probably won't do anything but I tried. read more

Time for a refreshed review...and sadly nothing has changed...maybe worse. I get notified my package has been delivered, and no package. Seems like someone checks the box to make a number and then delivers when convenient for them. Second time in a month. First time I filed a claim. Woman called with an attitude, insinuated I was trying to make a fraudulent claim and then I received an email from her the next day apologizing. The carrier still had my package and would deliver next day. This is unacceptable. read more

Let me start by saying that I have super low expectations for government services, but this place is off the charts. How they have an average rating over 1 Star is incomprehensible. I signed up online for a PO Box earlier this week at the Briarcliff PO and paid for it, as well. I was immediately emailed with instructions on completing a form and bringing two forms of ID to the location to take ownership of the PO Box. I arrived at around 2:30 today and the only person in the location besides two employees behind the counter. I asked for the form and the lady handed me one. I went to the counter by the line and she immediately tells me that I have to complete the form on the other side of that counter. Again, I'm the only person in here. All that considered, I haven't got to the good part yet. I'm still chipper and content with the service thus far. Then!!! I take the completed form to the counter and present my drivers license (yes, with my address verified on it) and a US government employee ID (yes, I too work for the federal government, so again I understand how stupid things can get.) anyways, both have photos... but the instructions on the form say you must have two forms of ID one of which must have a photo. The woman then stated that only one of the IDs could have a photo and the other had to be a non-photo ID because that's how she interpreted the form. Needless to say, I still do not have my PO Box assigned that I paid for. I had to return home to find some non-photo ID. My health insurance card and my YMCA card didn't count because it has a photo. Came on a Monday and the man at the counter said we cannot ship anything today because he has no one helping him and that the postal office is closed. My question is what is he doing there? I thought that's his job , but I guess people are getting lazier and lazier. What a joke! Went in at 11:00 am and they were closed. At least 20 people came and left after realizing they weren't going to be able to handle their business. I had been waiting on a package for three days. I checked everyday for tracking, but there was zero information available. The first notice that showed up delivery was attempted at 4:40pm. The second notice came the following day showing a "guaranteed" delivery before noon, THE PREVIOUS DAY! USPS has always been a joke but Atlanta's offices take the cake. read more

My local post office in Baldwin, New York is a gem. I have used them for over 30 years. The personnel is pleasant and efficient. I recent had the displeasure of having to use the Briarcliff branch. Are they kidding? The lot is dilapidated with potholes and the building would insult a homeless shelter. Understandably the staff attitudes reflected their environment. Everybody hates their local post office, but is it really worse than the one in the next neighborhood? I am hereby proclaiming the beginning of "The Worst Post Office in Atlanta" contest. Let me start the nominations with the Druid Hills branch in Sage Hill. Indeed, a very low bar right out of the gate! I think this branch only has one employee because they are often closed when they're supposed to be open. The only reason I go in now is to periodically check on its level of crapulence. Several times I have checked to see who is last in line, popped in the Sage Hill barber shop next door, received a haircut, and then while leaving, checked to see if that person was still in line. This review comes after about 20 trips to this local Post Office, so it's not like I was just turned off by one bad egg. Anyway, today the US Post Office (in general) reported record losses, double the amount last year, despite hikes in rates and cuts from all places possible. This post office possesses all the qualities that exemplify why the USPS will die and become part of the private sector. People who work there hate their jobs. Every time I go there, I'm reminded why I shouldn't; they speak to the customer like s/he is an idiot, they are unfriendly and inflexible, they will take their full lunch during the highest traffic time every single day, and if you see 2 people in line you can expect a twenty minute wait. Expect eye-rolling, slow walking, sarcastic and rote-repetitive speaking, unthinking, bare-minimum-effort employees here. Save them the hassle of having to do their jobs and print your own postage at https://shop.usps.com (there is no additional cost). Send you packages at UPS for better service, quicker lines, and cheaper rates. Assuming they get paid more than $35K, they get paid too much considering their hours and days off. Since it's a gov't job they probably get paid a lot more -- they could trim the fat right there, rather than doing things like refusing to let the customer tape a package upon arrival without purchasing a full roll for $5. If you have a choice, use a different post office or an alternative like UPS/FedEx. There ARE decent Post Offices out there (Pharr Road in Buckhead, downtown Decatur, for example)...just avoid 12-2pm for any of them. read more

AVOID THIS LOCATION AT ALL COST! Amazed that any of the people at this location have jobs still. The worst customer service in the history of the workforce. They need to clean house from top to bottom. Rude, condescending, ignorant etc. I saw the ratings for this particular USPS location and decided to go anyway because it was convenient. Big mistake on my part (never again). The young lady with the top review wrote, "Ok! It's a post office." I don't find this US Postal Service location much different than any of the other in the ATL. I believe one of the reasons most of the USPS locations get a bad rating is because they always seem to be understaffed and ultimately the employees have lackluster performance and poor demeanor. It is especially frustrating when going between 12-2pm and only one employee is assisting customers. I've been to numerous locations throughout the ATL and this is not an anomaly. One last word of advise, if you need to get a passport, call ahead; otherwise you will have to wait and inordinate amount of time or even be asked to come back the next business day. read more

I had a pre-printed label I needed to affix to a shipping envelope, but had no tape, and USPS tape is opaque. The man at the counter looked around and found a couple rolls of clear tape people had left partially used and gave them to me. Otherwise I would've had to buy a whole roll for $3.49. read more

Everyone is so right about this post office. I've been twice now with packages with preprinted labels; I just wanted to drop them off because there is nowhere else to do that in the area. There is no drop bin at the front, so the first time I went to put one on the counter. The only woman who works there now--yes, only one person at an entire official post office location--yelled at me for doing so. Okay . . . I've done it a bunch of other places, but the next time I got in line with it. Big mistake! She first insisted that I had the wrong postage; when she rang it up, I had actually overpaid!. She then insisted that I should pay for it all over again--basically refusing to accept a USPS label. When I pointed out that I had in fact overpaid, she did it *twice more,* each time coming up with a different amount! Finally she managed to come up with an amount that was more than I paid by falsifying the amount. It was just malicious--the only point I could see to it was to discourage anyone from using the post office. I'll have to drive half an hour from now on to go to downtown Decatur to the post office. When the Decatur post office looks good, you know you have a bad one to compare it to! Even worse, perhaps, there is no help from the so-called complaint board. No one monitors postal employee performance; no one at any level cares. What a sad demise for a once-great institution. read more

An update of incompetence and illegal activities: Yet again, someone working at this post office stole my mail. This time, they pretended they delivered a package. When looking up the tracking number, it showed as "delivered". It wasn't. However, ONE MONTH LATER it actually arrived. Opened. And badly taped closed again. The book that was sent to me was inside but the $50 gift card was not. This has been going on for 5 years now. No amount of complaints, theft reports or anything else has helped. They have stolen Christmas gifts, netflix movies and gift cards from me over the years. I am going to have to rent a PO box in another area just to avoid having any of my packages sent through this particular post office. It's beyond infuriating. read more

Can't use their special tape unless you're using their special box and even then the tape barely holds on. You're expected to do EVERYTHING beforehand. Opened a PO Box online. Went to this post office to get the paperwork completed and get keys. The man "helping" me refused to allow me to get a key and begin to use the PO Box because "I did not have correct paperwork". I had my drivers license and a current 2019 tag renewal bill. He said over and over everything I had was not current. Last time I checked it was still 2019. I told that fool I would just give up and make a claim for a refund. read more

Can't believe all the hate here! I mean come on, this is the post office! I recently stopped in to mail a package. In addition to the workers behind the counter, they had a nice lady helping customers on the floor. She helped me fold the box (small Priority Mail box) and pack the item, and she had a handheld card reader for my credit card. I got my receipt with tracking number and I was out the door in exactly 4 minutes. I wish I had gotten her name because she was super helpful, and very professional! Yes it's not like the lobby of a 5-star hotel or anything, but get real. Exactly what I needed. Thanks USPS! read more

If I could give zero stars I would. We have a PO Box there which we've had for years for business. SO many of our clients payments to us get lost or returned as undeliverable even thought the address is correct. When you go into the post office there is tons of peoples mail all over the place because it's been put in the wrong P.O. Box including social security checks and bank statements. They are just there for the taking. At least 3 or 4 times a week we have other people's mail in our box. This is the most inept post office ever!!! read more

Lost all of my mail including tax information, checks, etc. Now I am having financial problems because of this and they do not care. Messed up my PO Box and did not have keys ready when I went although I applied online. I had to make a THIRD trip just to get my keys and they still said they did not have them! Although this post office does fine with regular correspondence, they are unable to manage insurance claims for broken items. In fact, as directed by the postal office, I brought in a valuable antique porcelain lamp that was damaged by the USPS. The post office representative took photos and took all the information down regarding the broken item. During the process of taking my information, the representative blamed me for the breakage. I reminded her that her job was to document the breakage and take down the required information to be shared with USPS. The Post ofice denied my claim because they said I never took the item to the post office for their review. Despite sharing photos of the items in the USPS office with photos of the representative in the background, they still denied I had taken the item in. So much for postal insurance. I argued the case with customer service and they still denied everything despite my photos of the items at the post office in front of the customer service representative. Typical of many insurance companies, their job is to deny claims. Don't every mail anything of value through USPS as they are not responsible and don't honor the insurance that one purchases. Really poor and dishonest service. Stick to letters and correspondence! read more
