The U.S. passport offices are located here and this is not a review of their operation, but the USPS desk at Loyola. As a former New Orleans City employee of many years I can review this at last from an objective position. Katrina was 20 years ago. The USPS office at Loyola has never recovered. This is the central post office in New Orleans and perhaps the most poorly managed in the city. It serves as a location that many tourists staying downtown are directed to, in order to send their New Orleans souvenirs home. It could be a New Orleans' promotionally welcoming experience instead of the glimpse of a major city in decline that it is. Entering, the first thing you will notice is the large, darkened, trash strewn and abandoned Sales and Services desk and kiosk area. This welcome alone is an indicator of the absence of managerial leadership among those here at the highest pay rates slumbering at their desks. Meanwhile, at the front service desk there are huge understaffing issues. With a bight few exceptions Staff is consistently slow moving, poorly trained, often ill tempered, and burdened with malfunctioning and poorly serviced printers and label equipment. Aside from being perpetually littered with debris and wasted postal supplies, the lobby seems unsafe because visible Security is often zero. Add to this the the proximity to the Bus and Train Station and it's pretty obvious security here is critically absent. This location is often frequented by the local homeless and forensic wanderers of New Orleans seeking warmth in the winter, AC in the summer, and possible handouts, or the possibility of finding forgotten packages or mail. Again zero security. Parking is fairly good, though I would have strong safety concerns regarding the Parking Lot at dusk. read more

I have no one to bring me there to try and get my supplies. I'm hoping a manager or someone will see this and make an attempt to contact me because I need those supplies. After ten years of patronizing this main post office branch, it's time to add my review. At times it's frustrating, like any government agency, but overall they do a decent job. I've always lucked out and found a parking spot in the 15-minute zone near the front entrance. My favorite feature is the self-service postage kiosk between the main entrance and full-service counter, which usually has at least a few people in line. It's rare to have to wait for the self-service terminal. It prints stamps, measures and weighs parcels/envelopes and prints the postage for them as well, with the address automatically filled in. Pay with a card, and you're outta there in minutes without any personal interaction. On the rare times I've had to visit the full-service counter, the staff has always been helpful and efficient. read more

10FEB24 ~ The primary reason behind my satisfaction rating was the woman working the counter. She was outstanding. I believe her name was Tasha, or something close to that. She was super nice, i.e. very personable, very helpful, sharper than most counter workers (???) I have encountered, & willing to go the extra mile. I needed to send a medium size King Cake. She helped me try to find one of your pre-sized boxes for King Cakes but none would accommodate my medium size King Cake from Antoine's. She was sharper than most. She could see things as possible options even when not necessarily made for that purpose. She saw a discarded Office Depot box top and suggested that I try it. It fit perfect! It was closing time & she helped me meet the deadline. Thank you. I wish you had more employees like her, her work ethic, helpfulness, and aptitude. read more

This place has its faults. I've had a lot of things delivered seriously late over the past year, but I'm starting to think that's the entire USPS system and not a problem with a particular branch. Anyway, this review is for the kind, patient employees who work at Loyola Ave and always make an aggravating experience a lot more painless once you reach the counter. The lines can get long, especially during the holidays, but they'll always greet you warmly and help with any questions you might have, no matter how strange. As the owner of an online shop, I mail A LOT of packages and this is my favorite local PO. It's open till 7 PM too, which this night owl appreciates, and they always have enough cash in their drawers for my money orders. read more

Top notch Post Office. This is a large post office. There were only three people in line and a man came out to assist in making the line go faster. I got up to the counter in less than 2 minutes. When I did the Clerk? Employee? Assisted me in a prompt, friendly and efficient manner. This could not be any better than it was. I love the post office and this post office was one of the most friendliest I've ever been to. Everybody was so nice and friendly there and the guy that waited on me, Jamall, he was just awesome he did a great job. And the supervisor, she was a sweetheart, she let me her pen even so I could fill out some stuff. And I talked to several of the clerks on the windows and they all said she was super nice which for the Postal Service is very rare especially nowadays so I was happy for them. Largest post office in the GREATER NOLA area and they tend to be a little on the slow side. This post office I KNOW is most frequented and they still only maintain about 3-4 open agents/tellers/cashiers (not sure what they're called now a days). The only advantage here is that they tend to have extended hours and have an on-site passport department. Parking is a plus as well. There's a big open lot and for temporary parking, less than 15 minutes, you can park right outside the front door. Staff are friendly, nothing to write home about, but still friendly. read more

Since I happen to work in the immediate vicinity of the main post office, I have the occasion of going here nearly every day. So for me, the location is totally convenient, as it should also be for anyone else who works downtown. This is definitely a huge post office, and it's by far the largest in the city. However, the counter is usually understaffed. I can say that the limited counter staff are very efficient in moving people expeditiously. (A major shout out to postal employee Ricky!) This office is conveniently open until 7pm on Monday through Friday and is also open on Saturday. There is also a U.S. Passport servicing center here as well. Parking is not an issue as the lot holds approximately 75 cars. Safety at night is not a real issue either as the Postal Police are on duty 24 hours a day. read more

This is the main post office for the City of New Orleans so it's usually crowded but it stays open later and usually has a bunch of windows open. I've mostly gotten cranky but helpful employees. (I think if you're too cheerful or pleasant that you get delegated to other tasks.) But I've also seen them go out of their way for an honestly befuddled senior. The vending machines for stamps and whatnot have always worked and there is plenty of parking. They have longer hours than most branches, so it's all good. read more

This is the main New Orleans Post Office. If you want to mail something in the city and you need it mailed quickly, this is the location for you. I believe all of the smaller post offices transport their mail here before shipping around the country. There are two boxes where you can drive up and drop off your mail. Mail is picked up each day at 6pm. I haven't been inside when it has been open in some time, but even late at night, there is a stamp machine that takes credit cards. There are also scales, etc. so you can do the majority of your mailing needs. Because this is the main post office, it can get extremely busy. There is a parking lot and garage, so parking shouldn't be a problem. If you need to mail your tax return on April 15, just drive up. There will be postal workers on the neutral ground just waiting for your returns. read more

The packages didn't arrive to their destination until December 23. There is still one floating around out there ( according to the tracking number ) and as of today it will be over one month and still ' in transit ' horrible ......there are many other carriers out there that is much more dependable . I just moved to town and have never been so disappointed in any post office. I will no longer be sending things to home. To date, my carrier has misplaced, not delivered, or delivered-late 5 separate packages( in the span of 5 weeks). Every time I attempt to call the office (or any number they provide) the phone rings endlessly - no one EVER answers. My carrier doesn't update tracking numbers or misrepresents where my packages are (labeling them delivered to the post office when they aren't there). When I have visited the appropriate post office the employees, though typically polite, have been completely unhelpful. They supposedly call carriers but never seem to be able to get a hold of them. Though they say they will call back when the carrier comes back they never do. They can never seem to do more than look up tracking numbers and tell me the same information I had before. There appears to be no accountability for carriers not delivering packages and no consistency in delivery. From now on I will be sending packages to my office because I can't count on the United States Postal Service doing their job. read more

Shockingly rude and unable to control temper! *JIM* was my customer service rep and he literally was huffing, complaining, and getting angry at his own scale. He was surprisingly rude and treated me as though I was forcing him to do his job and he was going to be sure I was to suffer. What's most shocking is, I didn't even have him do anything except SCAN my packages of which there were only 2! Literally, it's the easiest thing he could have done and he still was angry about it! What was the really sad part is his manager was standing almost next to him and ignored it. I can't say I blame her as I'm sure she is intimidated by his aggression and chooses not to engage him out of fear. Waiting around in line is not something that I look forward to, thus I usually dread going to the Post Office. This Post Office, for the most part, has been very effecient and prompt with their services. I waited in line for about 5 minutes to buy a money order, the clerk gave me the money order and asked me to confirm that it was correct. It was not, she apologized and fixed it immediately so no big deal. I was taking my daughter in this branch because she needed a passport. We were in and out of the office in 10 minutes! No joke. This included her passport paperwork that she filled out, ID verification, passport photo taken there, buying M.O., etc!! We were definitely impressed. This office appears organized and clean. Ineptitude seems to be a hallmark of my experiences at this location. For years now I've had a post office box there, a carryover from Katrina, and have maintained payment on it. Still, about a year ago, I received notice that my box fee hadn't been paid. Only I did, via an online check sent to them, one they apparently lost. After several communications via the USPS website, I hadn't heard any more of it, so I figured they found the check, and I continued to pick up whatever mail that still went to that location. Until about a month ago when I found the box locked and taped up. Upon inquiry, I learned that they apparently had never found my check, and had even rented it out to another entity, one that had since stopped renting it. So I paid the renewal fee to reopen it, and was given the same lock combination that I originally had (and apparently the subsequent renters also had. It was never changed). Note: Three weeks ago I asked them to change the combination. They haven't. UPDATE: They finally changed my combination, but only after I had to again ask them to do so. read more

You may not even believe that this is a real US Post Office, but it is. I must say, the entire New Orleans postal system is really in the dumps. In one of the most welcoming and warm cities in the world you can go to this post office and find some grumpy cranky workers. The line is always very long and people wait patiently, but it's cold in there in the summer so bring a sweater. Don't mess up or ask any questions either because you won't be treated nicely. Since living in New Orleans I have only had the same postal worker twice. TWICE. My mail arrives every day anytime between 10AM and 8PM. No consistency. My mail also arrives wet, ripped, damaged, and looking like someone jumped on it. I don't understand why. Today I was waiting for a package and met the postal worker when he arrived at my door. He said he was just doing his buddy a favor and didn't usually do my route. Then I asked where the package was- since I checked online and saw that it was at this USPS location at 8am today- and he said he didn't look for it. So, he went back and, of course, it was right there in his truck. So if I hadn't asked I wouldn't have gotten my package?! So, I realized I had to finally write this review. This is my favorite Post Office. They stay open later (7p on weekdays!), they have a e-shipping kiosk for middle of the night shipping, the stamp vending machine always works and they don't give me lip about scanning in e-bay shipping packages. The employees can be a little cold from time to time but they're never rude and usually helpful. Need priority mail shipping tape or boxes? This is the post office for you. They even carry the large regional rate box (largest of the priority shipping boxes) so you don't have to order it. You don't even have to talk to anyone. They're in the shipping center piled up in stacks. If for whatever reason you need help after hours go over by the passport office then take the hallway on your right. You'll see a window. Ring the bell and someone will come to it. read more

We are at a post office somewhere in the world every single day because we ship regular sized packages from our home store (calendars, small semi precious gifts etc...) without fail they have an issue and create a headache instead of just doing their, you know.... By far the most inferior service I have EVER encountered anywhere at any business or agency. They simply do not care. Simply do not have to care, there is no incentive to do their job and it shows. If someone bothers to answer the phone, never expect it to happen a second time. If you are told they will call you back with a followup, don't count on it. This is the Federal government at it's worse. Your tax dollars wasted on people who have a cushy job with great benefits and could care less about your mail servicel. In the future, I will ONLY use Federal Express or UPS, the price difference is worth the peace of mind. Do not allow USPS to disrupt and destroy your life with their ineptitude. So I had to mail a package overseas and was not sure how to go about doing so. I went in to my post office near my home and asked for help, the lady behind the counter says fill out this form so I do she takes package says I'm all set and then pay a little over 40 dollars and she says it should be there within 10-15 business days. I agree pay postage and 14 days later I get my package with a note stating that my full name wasn't on the package itself so I need to go resend, a set back but I go back in and explain that I walked in to send package because I had never done so overseas. They say write your full name on the box and pay 40 dollars again and we will resend it. So at this point I say "why should I have to pay for postage again when your employee helped me fill out the label and form on the package?" The arrogant supervisor says who helped you? What was her name? Can't you see from the time stamped receipt what was working that day? Again I went in and told the clerk when I originally sent package that I did not know what I had to do to send the package outside the US and that I needed help. I want to give this place zero stars. I refused to pay the postage again went to FedEx paid 90.00 to have it there in 2-3 days. The post office is pathetic, no wonder they are losing money. GOVERNMENT WASTE! read more

There isn't tape in the lobby if you're planning to wrap/box here, but you could purchase materials. Although they have lots of free parking, the crowd inside is too much. They have not seemed to make it a priority to add more staff during the high traffic periods. Plus, the overworked staff that is working the long lines tends to be a bit rude and impatient. At least they have a self-serve line, if paying by debit or credit card. There's always parking straight outside in their own private car park, the lines are short most the time, and if you know how to use the automatic machine, you don't have to wait at all.
