Over the years of living in New Orleans and returning here for work, this has consistently been my favorite US Post Office. Everyone at this post office is efficient, knowledgeable and helpful. went to this post office to send a package registered mail for 10,000.00. i have done this before several times even for a greater amount. the first lady to assist was helpful BUT new and asked for assistance from someone in the back. the lady who came out claimed i could only insure items up to 5,000.00. i pulled it up on ;line to show them that the internet for USPS says it will insure up to 50,000.00... no help.. had to leave and go to the office on carrolton ave. which was able to help me and get it shipped within 5 minutes of being there. read more

Incredibly poor service. The woman at the front desk was on her phone via headphones the entire time. Having personal conversations while also doing her job is so unprofessional and it showed with her poor communication skills and lack of customer service skills. She was blunt, unfriendly, unhelpful and does not look out for the customer. Making it so much harder for people to get in and get out. read more

I have had multiple times when a package is marked as delivered and the actual package was delivered the next day or two. I then had a situation where I had a package marked as delivered and when I called they said they don't do photos for confirmation and they are going to side with the confirmation made by the delivery person. They also said if I wanted any kind of compensation I would have to make a police report. read more

Smaller than most USPS, but it gets the job done. A small percentage of the time, it's kind of crowded & I'm more than sure that's basically because of the size; but these ladies move at lightening speed WITH accuracy to process transactions so one can get in and out. Hello, I always pull a STICK & MOVE CAPER; in and out just as fast. This place is like a well kept secret. And rightfully so. Ample parking for it's size. And the view of the Bayou is simply magnificent. read more

Ahh as long as you respect the workers and don't walk up on them until called, they are nice. I'd say they are also very efficient. What I'm not a fan of is them locking the door at 12:45 and saying they're closed when they are open til 1. I know there's a survey you can fill out but im not trying to get anyone fired here, so maybe they will see this review and stick to their posted hours ;) read more

I have never been truly impressed with any post office in New Orleans and frankly this one is no different. With few exceptions, every time I go to a post office, I am made to feel like they (USPS) are doing me a huge favor by waiting on me. As I am greeted in the most unenthusiastic way, I think to myself, "I'm not here to borrow money people. I'm not asking for a kidney. I'm trying to pay for a service. So let's please drop the sour puss face". The nice thing about this location is I pass it up twice every day as I go to and from work. Therefore it is extremely convenient for me. Most of the time, I merely drop off mail in the outside mailbox. The nice thing about that is there are 2 drive-thru mailboxes to accommodate cars. There is ample parking in their lot. However, once you walk inside, the interior footprint is very small. I still cannot understand why they do not have a machine in which to purchase stamps. It's very irritating to have to stand in a line that is usually long and slow moving just to buy stamps. Heck, there are stamp machines that are the size of a large office copy machine. They need to look at their space and get one ASAP. Aside from the convenience factor, there is a great view of Bayou St. John, especially if you are there when the sun is rising or setting over the water. All in all, this is your typical post office run by your typical government workers. They get the job done, but don't expect anything stellar. read more

So it's a post office with all the usual stuff and employees who range from surly to friendly. So why that 4th star? Because it's location is so pretty... No not the semi-abandoned hospital behind it but the bayou in front. If I was a postal worker, I would love working here just to watch the bayou out front during lunches and down time. read more

This is my neighborhood postal office! They have not one but two drive through post office boxes which is convenient. I moved into Mid-City at the end of July. All I know is that after Hurricane Isaac, this post office was still operating with a little trailer and a friendly post office lady. I was so impressed and kind of stunned. It was kind of comforting to know that even though my apartment didn't have power that there was a friendly face in my neighborhood and that at least my mail could be mailed. The post office folks are friendly at this joint! Love it! I already bought all my holiday stamps at the post office across from Lakeside mall (gotta represent all my ethnically and religiously diverse friends so bought $80 worth of stamps had my christian religious ones, Hannukah, Kwanzaa, Celebrate, Authors, Love stamps). read more

How can I NOT be a fan of the Post Office in my neighborhood? Like I have a choice? Luckily, this is a great post office. It's conviently located on Bayou St. John just off Orleans Ave. The line usually moves pretty swiftly. The counter folks are pretty nice. Oy Vey, unfortunately I had dealings with this particular government institution. I guess this place is a necessary evil but I don't have to like it. The problem first started when I got note saying that they had tried to deliver a package. So I took off of work a little early to go and get it. As soon as I get there the man behind the counter informed me they had sent it out on the truck to be delivered again and I would have to come pick it up the next day. That kind of pissed me off but I figured it wasn't the end of the world. The next day I went down there bright and early to go and pick up my package. The same guy informs that it went back out on the truck. Wow, really!?!?! You would think that if I wasn't able to pick it up the first few times that they would stop sending it out on the truck. I looked at him and said,"thanks for nothing". On the 26th of December I received a second note telling me I had another package waiting on me. I decided to wait until today to go and pick it up. This time the encounter was much different I dealt with 2 ladies. The ladies were actually very nice and helpful. They brought me my packages and also informed that they it had NEVER went back out on the truck. Yes that's right the man I had mentioned earlier in my review totally lied to me about my parcel going out on the truck again. The real reason he made up that excuse is because he didn't want to get up off of his dead ass and go get my parcel. It just sucks that one lazy standoffish person can ruin your experience here. I just wish they would fire him, but I know that would never happen. In short if you have to go to this post office make sure you talk to the ladies. Because the older man is a real jerk! read more

I just moved here from Los Ángeles and this Post Office and its staff are a blessing. Short lines, good products, easy parking, down-to-earth efficient staff. I'm grateful and have had no problems. Some of the women that work here are super nice. But sometimes they act like they don't wanna be there and it shows.

Post offices aren't on the top of my places to review but efficiency makes me happy. Very happy. There is an employee there that has consistently been awesome the last three times I've been in there, regardless if there was a long line or not. The building is also very clean, and there is a TV you can watch if you do have to wait for a hot second. My only minor complaint is that there is no readily available tape dispenser if you bring your own box or use one of their boxes that doesn't have the self-adhesive tape, though said employee mentioned earlier will absolutely let you borrow tape. read more

So I've finally giving up shipping with these guys. They still think they are special snowflakes when it comes to scanning in ebay prepaid shipping packages and the clerks are still surly. I was still going there to pick up priority mail boxes from time to time but now... Yesterday I was informed they will only be stocking the flat rate priority boxes. (Flat rate is a waste of money unless you are shipping something heavy.) So thats that. If you do a lot of shipping skip these guys and go directly to the main post office on Loyola. They'll have your supplies and they'll be nicer. Notes: Only flate rate priority mail boxes, priority mail boxes are not available at night, no after hours package shipping kiosk, high counters, expect a line. read more

Worst post office... Have lost my packages in the past and refused to do anything about it. These days they only leave delivery slips and expect you to "deliver" your own packages from their office. I am standing here now. There is at least 20 people in line. 1 of the 2 cashiers just left for lunch 5 til 12. 30 minutes to pick up a package they didn't even try to deliver in the first place.., read more

I think it would be really hard to rate any Post Office better than 2 stars, honestly. This is likely the most convenient PO in New Orleans though, which is probably why it's always slammed. I've never been able to walk in and right out...always a line. The employees are fairly surly and if you give them a funny look or take too much time, they don't hesitate to let you know you're inconveniencing them. That said, there must be some kind of training manual that determines this behavior because I've never met an overly friendly Postal Worker. (I guess there's a reason there's a saying "Going Postal"? hehe.) It's clean enough and there are recycle and trash cans around the PO BOX areas. You do get a great view of the bayou while sorting your mail, so it's not all bad! read more

Both of my parents have worked for the US Post Office for about 20 years, so I know a thing or two about the post office. The first thing I know is that the post office sucks if you work there. The second thing I know is that the post office sucks if you are a customer there. Either way, stepping foot into the post office is not really an enjoyable experience for anyone. The job of the employee and customer is thus: how can I possibly make a trip to the post office tolerable? With my few trips to the N. Jefferson Davis Prkwy USPS, they seem to have the answer: Saturday mornings, short to no lines, not too friendly service, but not too nasty, generally helpful, mail your package and go. This specific location is right near the Bayou. It has two mail boxes where you can drive up and drop off your mail, and a medium sized parking lot that never seems too busy-- but I only have experiences going to this location on Saturdays. read more

All of the reviews stating that the employees here are friendly are from 3+ years ago. In that time it seems that they've been replaced with rude and/or angry employees. And that makes a big difference! The review saying that they will let you borrow their tape dispenser is also outdated. They absolutely will NOT go out of their way to help or be friendly or even polite. I was told I would have to purchase a full roll of tape to further secure my box. And all of this service is accompanied with a scowl that says, "You're the biggest idiot I've seen all day." I just wanted to mail mom her Mother's Day gift! So all in all I'd say their service is average. I'll probably go back to the post office on Louisiana because those folks actually are friendly and don't make me feel like crap after waiting in line for 45 minutes. I bicycle to this post office. One hot and humid New Orleans summer, I entered the post office with my bike helmet in tow. The postal service officer offered me a cold bottle of water. I didn't ask, she just saw that I was hot and brought water to me. What a wonderful gesture! The postal service workers in my neighborhood are kind and thoughtful. Even my dogs are happy to see the mailman. He carries treats for the dogs on his route. read more

If you need your postal needs quickly met, this is not the optimal location for you. The postal workers do their best to keep up with demand and are mostly pleasant. This location is small and conveniently located to mid city and bayou St. John area. They do carry a variety of postal supplies, that's a nice feature when you need to grab a box for mailing or maybe a last minute card you forgot for someone. I have a lot of trouble accessing this post office, in part because I am disabled. The lines are almost always extremely long (usually at least reaching the door). There is nowhere to rest or sit as you wait. If you need to mail a package you cannot be in a hurry-- it can take up to an hour to reach the counter. The line forms before the office is open. There is no self-service of any kind. There is no drive-through. On one occasion, a package delivery was "attempted" at my house (I don't think it was actually ever attempted, and there was no slip) and returned to the post office. To pick up my package, I would have had to wait in line for up to an hour, since they would not hand me my package unless I waited in line, even though I needed nothing else and no postage was due. I had to leave, and the postal workers declined my request to have the package redelivered. The package was returned to sender. This post office would benefit from (1) a self-service kiosk, (2) a drive-through, and (3) A few benches in the waiting area, or even a ticketing system. read more

Refused to service me, left the wrong tape out and then and then proceeded to tell me I couldn't mail my package because I'd used the wrong tape which was the only one they had out. Wasted $30, didn't get my issue resolved and the ladies refused to help me. Won't be back to this location. read more

This post office services my apartment building located on Ulloa St between Cortez and S Scott St. We are lucky if we get our mail delivered two to three times a week. This week I believe it was twice. We didn't get any of our out going mail picked up. Yesterday when the female carrier was here she stated she would pick it up on Monday. That she had a funeral to attend. We have had our rent checks in that out going mail box since the first. Now there are residents who are going to be fined a $100 late fee/have eviction proceedings started all because of her laziness. This is outrageous! read more

So I gave the Mid-City Post Office 2 stars because cards with checks in them often did not make it. This year I decided to pay for tracking at the rate of over $6. When even the tracked mail did not get there due to a crazy excuse of not having access to delivery (there was a mail slot in the door and my son-in-law was watching a ballgame at the time) I filed a complaint. Well, it did get delivered the following afternoon. Then on Saturday, a really nice lady, Mrs. Freeman I believe, called to see if everything was ok now. And it was. So I am so pleased that this nice lady understood the anguish of a mother wanting to send something to her baby (she will always be my baby) and took the time to follow up with me. I hope she sees how happy her thoughtfulness made me and renewed my faith in USPS. Our PO's here in San Diego are pretty good. And I get great service from our carrier! And, if you folks have not seen the selection of greeting cards at the PO, you should take a look. read more
