I've gone into this post office before to pick up packages that we've had delivered there but we haven't gone here to ship packages or anything like that. Since we were in the area, we decided to go to this post office thinking it would be fine. Unfortunately it wasn't. The clerk we worked with was very rude and condescending to us and to others that we saw coming in for passport appointments. All we wanted to do was mail some papers and have tracking and then have a return tracking envelope enclosed. Somehow this probably took at least 20 minutes and we ultimately walked out with some expressenvelopes and the clerk telling us to "do it at home ourselves". Needless to say, I went straight to another post office. I went into the other post office thinking I could *only* do express and that the weight mattered and that they weren't going to help me if they don't know what the return weight will be. I quickly discovered that that was all BS and that I didn't need to pay $30 for each envelope for express and could just do priority for $10 and some change. (Because we didn't care when the papers arrived we were only worried about tracking... but this Orinda clerk didn't even ask us about when we want it to arrive, go figure). Also discovered that the weight doesn't matter because it's all flat rate. So that particular employee at the Orinda post office either had no idea what she was talking about and didn't know how to do her job... or she just didn't want to do her job. read more

United States Postal Service - Latonya saved the day!! - Post Offices Near Me - Orinda, California

My Family of 5 had an appointment at Moraga Post Office for a passport. The post office was closed because of a power outage and we were told that nearby Orinda could honor our appointment. When to the Orinda Post Office, 4 people were in line in the lobby for passport appointments, so we waited there with them. After about 30 minutes, one of the clerks noticed us in line and said we had to "check in." So we went into the service area and stood in line. Apparently we were not supposed to do that, and she told to go back to waiting in the lobby. My wife asked if we were officially checked in, and the clerk (Shawnee I believe) inexcplicably snapped "We're doing you a favor, if you don't like it you can go home." I replied, "Excuse Me?' but decided to go back to the lobby as we needed to get our passports completed. We waited another 2 HOURS!, watching people with Orinda passport appointments file in and get service. We understood that they may get priority, but when there was nobody left in line, they still didn't offer us service. I finally went back in to ask her what the situation was, and Shawnee went off on a tangent saying we were rude for expecting service right away and that she could no longer help us. As we were leaving, some people who witnessed the exchange spoke to us and were shocked by her behavior. I have no idea what Shawnee's problem was, but my wife and I ended up taking the day off from work, pulling our 3 kids from school to wait in the lobby for 2 1/2 hourse for no other reason than to fulfill this woman's power trip. To cap it all off there was a mouse on the loose. While we were waiting in the lobby, a mouse was running around, and then got into the service area. A couple of male warehouse employees tried to get the mouse (one female clerk refused to work and went to the break room). After about 15 minutes, the male workers gave up trying to get the mouse as it was hiding behind a cabinet. Finally the mouse ran back into the lobby, and I was able to scuddle the mouse outside with my feet. When the warehouse employee came back out looking for the mouse again, instead of thanking me for getting rid of the mouse, he got mad at me for not allowing him the opportunity to kill the mouse. You can't make this stuff up. This post office is an absolute joke. And Shawnee has no business as a public servent. read more

I sent a registered mail from this post office to the State Department in Missouri on December 8th, 2020. The mail was not delivered as of today January 7th, 2021. So I went to this post office to ask for help. The first Spanish woman who was behind the counter told me "you need to wait for another month. I can do nothing about it". I was not satisfied and asked for a solution. Then she pointed me to the corner of the office and told me to wait for her supervisor. While I was waiting, I saw her receiving gifts from another customer (three bags. the customer said, one for you. one for xx. one for xx. No gift for xx as she is not good)!!!!! People, what is this??? I was thinking is this how it works here? Should I come with a gift next time so that she could help me? Then the second Spanish woman (as the supervisor of the first woman) came out, asked me for the tracking number, then went back to her computer. She came out with a phone number and told me "your mail is in Michigan right now. here is the phone number of that post office. you could call them"!!! I thought I paid you money to deliver the package. Maybe you are supposed to call them and help me out. She refused to call and went back to talk to someone else. Then Julie came out and talked with me. Firstly she apologized. Then she asked for my name and phone number and told me that she will call the post office in Michigan to figure things out, and she will give me a callback tomorrow. This ONLY STAR is for JULIE. The other two Spanish women are the worst staff I ever met. People, if you are in the same situation as I was today, please insist that they need to do their job. Please don't go away until they do their job to help you. For the woman who receives the gifts from the customer, I hope she understands "behind the counter means you need to do your job!!!". read more

I was in line at post office 2/14/2023 when I heard an older Asian woman ask to speak to postmaster. 1.She was holding what appeared to be a paper from post office. 2. She was struggling to communicate with young AA clerk. 3. The clerk told her "If you can't tell me why you need to speak to postmaster then you can just come back tomorrow." 4. The senior Asian patron was told to "...just come back tomorrow". I am African American, and I was appalled at the way this senior was treated. It was not clear to me if this was a language issue. or some other reason. But to tell a patron "If you can't explain your reason to me then you need to come back tomorrow" is beyond rude. I have often given my place away in line just to speak to Julie. These new AA clerks need training: to be friendly, to not snap at patrons, and not be rude. They all need additional training. I work in Oakland. My office is across the street from Oakland post office and this manner appears to be pervasive in Oakland postal staff. This is not how patrons are treated in Orinda. read more

Review #007 - 2019 I've lived in Orinda for a little over a decade and we've always enjoyed the small town feel. Back when I had to use the mail service at this USPS location, it was usually just to drop off a package or buy some stamps. I never had any great or terrible experience to write about so I never bothered to write a review. We did rent a PO Box here for a few years, but decided to move our box to the UPS Store since it's more convenient. I was here in July of 2017 to get my daughter's passport processed and the person who helped me was actually very nice & friendly; hence, I am leaving 2-star review rather than a 1-star. I came back on Friday, January 18th, hoping to get mine done, but was told that they don't accept walk ins nor do they take appointments in person. I have no idea who the lady was that rudely told me this, but the lady who helped me process my daughter's passport was busy assisting another family finish up their paperwork. Since everyone else on here was complaining about Mia's rudeness, I'm going to assume it was her. read more

However the Orinda Post Office will always have five stars from me as long as Julie is employed there. She always is impressively energetic, helpful, knowledgable, friendly, and no nonsense. I've seen her patiently entertain long lines, keeping everyone happy. I hope to continue to see her, she always brightens my day. Please give her a raise. read more

Small staff, tiny, clean and well run post office. The employees are always helpful, patient and hardworking. They do their best under difficult working conditions, often made worse by nasty customers' rude and demanding behaviors. Many of our local customers are very elderly, some are disabled, and some are not computer literate. In addition, many local customers do a lot of online shopping and expect the post office to be their personal concierge service handling and delivering large boxes and processing multiple returns. Others travel frequently, and expect the Post Office to promptly store their mail and packages, then retrieve them on demand. There are a lot of International and gift Packages sent from this location, as well as many passports and other somewhat complicated transactions - which take "extra" time for the employees to process. Sadly, I have heard customers at this post office behave rudely and act as if they are very "entitled". Some seem to expect to be "served" as if they are in a fine restaurant..... and then become hostile when they have to wait in line or when the mail system doesn't work they way they want it to. They take out their frustrations on the staff, and I have seen some customers be outright abusive. But the staff is very tolerant. I have been a customer here for the past 35 years, and have found the staff to be professional, courteous, and consistently patient. They work hard to meet the needs of their customers and try to keep them calm and happy, as well as performing the other normal services of a post office. I came back again a few times. I despise Mia. She's rude and condescending. I asked to borrow a pen and she made a snark remark about how I don't come prepared, etc. Honey, your post office doesn't have pens at the counter. Not even those pens that are attached to the counter to prevent stealing. So, yes, I WILL borrow that pen. Needless to say, avoid Mia if you can. P.S. I've never complained about a postal service until This one. The only good thing I can say about it is it's never really packed. Now for the bad. There's a woman named Mia who works there. It's baffling that she is still employed. Her attitude is downright rude. She is condescending, makes demands, and is not in any way helpful. This is how she is all the time and this is how she is to everyone. She is the last person that needs to be helping people. She needs to get an attitude adjustment and she needs to get fired- she is that bad. Aside, from her- this post office isn't ever too packed and there are other nice workers there. I was stressed that it was going to be bureaucratic and demoralizing, but I actually had a very pleasant experience renewing my kids' passports at this post office. The woman who helped us was super nice & patient, and got all my paperwork sorted efficiently. The other staff was doing her best to help the other customers coming in, even though a few of them were being curt and acting super-entitled. (I wonder if some of the bad reviews are from those types of customers that just like to talk down to people working retail.) Also was well set up for COVID - mask compliant and socially distanced. I think the folks in Orinda should feel lucky to have a post office with staff as good as this one! read more

Actually the staff at the post office has always been polite. However, the mail delivery service is terrible for years. Four days out of seven we receive the wrong mail and our mail ends up somewhere else. Many complaints about this problem to the post master have been non- productive and was blamed on difficulty filling the positions. ??? I can't believe that !! The City of Martinez has had similar complaints and has taken the complaints to city hall many times. read more

The Orinda post office employees are extremely discriminatory. I waited and held the door open for an elderly woman trying to make it into the post office before 12:30pm closing on a Saturday. She had clear mobility difficulty and would not have easily been able to get the door for herself, though I stood with the door open for nearly 5 minutes just waiting as she made her way to the first set of doors. When she finally got through the doors, the post office employee exclaimed "she's our last customer, you have to leave". I was only trying to grab a flat rate box to take home to pack to send to a friend recovering from a hysterectomy a care package. When I explained this, the male postal worker simply re-stated "she's the last customer" although it was going to take her another 5 minutes for her to even get to the desk for him to help her. Incredibly rude man, only (probably pretending to be) understanding of elderly and ignorant of serious women's health complications. read more

They delivered my mails including letters, a small package, and an extra large envelop that was marked DO NOT BEND in red into a small mailbox. The large envelop contained art materials in and it had a hard supporting paper to protect the damage especially from being bent. Envelop was pretty hard with supporting paper. However, this delivery man bent the envelop so hard and pushed it in with other mails. Anyone who has common sense has an idea what could happen, or any delivery man who has professionalism could see the red sticker said DO NOT BEND. Is this a violence? Is this a hate crime? Is this an innocent mistake? But who could do such a stupid mistake??? I have never seen any delivery man who did such a job. It was by Orinda Post Office Delivery man. And when I reported to the post office, they didn't take any responsibility for their act. I am so disappointed their service. read more

Recently my family moved homes. As a result we ordered several items from Amazon. After what seemed like a loooong time, I got curious as to where my packages were. I checked the Amazon app first and the note was that "USPS didn't want to leave the package unattended." Well at the time of the attempted delivery, I was in the home along with no fewer than 15 other people. Once in the Post Office, Mia was rude and dismissive. She informed me that I'd have to speak with the Supervisor, Michael. When I requested to speak with him, Mia indicated that he was not present, she didn't know when he would be present and she wouldn't leave a message. Sadly failure to deliver packages and Mia's rudeness is a feature of this Post Office. read more

Minus one for living perfectly up to my expectations of having a complete lack of compassion when I, who checked the posted hours before bothering to arrive at 5:07pm only to discover they are inaccurate, knocked on the glass door holding up a package slip, to see if maybe, just maybe I could catch a break, and getting a nasty glare along with "WE'RE CLOSED". As a matter of fact, minus one more for that last item. Unnecessarily rude. I've encountered friendly post office employees at former neighborhood stations (North Beach, Montclair Village), which is usually noticeable because of that expectation we have of a trip to the post office being a miserable pain in the ass. The ladies who worked her in June 6 at 4:30pm were SO RUDE. I had to get in line twice for various reasons and is I got to experience their treatment of customers on 2 occasions the same day. Although I had no issue with them myself, I watched as one belittled a poor handicapped man in a wheelchair because he couldn't put a box together, and the other one talk with such attitude to a customer because she wasn't sure how to mail a specific package. They treated everyone like the customers were bothering them. I hate poor public service. Working in public service myself, I know that it takes minimal effort to treat people politely. These women today were on a power trip and don't deserve their jobs. Go work in a hole if you're gonna treat people like that! read more

There is a bush just outside the post office between the Rite Aid and the post office with a family of birds that will attack you if you get too close. This was tough. For the walk in post office, I would give them a 4. The service is always prompt and friendly, has for the past 12 years I've lived in O. Our Orinda P.O. mail carrier who delivers to us on Ivy Drive? He is below a one-star. The most awful, rude and vindictive carrier. He drives on the sidewalk - even though there is a school next to us. He leaves nasty notes if we park OUR cars in front of OUR mailbox and then he refuses to deliver our mail. Lately we have video-taped him and his actions (driving on the sidewalk). Spoke with his manager, sent the video tapes in, and nothing. Sent a letter last year. Nothing. They don't care. Our mail comes late, skips a day, is delivered to another address etc. Most troubling is that my Amazon packages are never delivered on time despite getting emails from the post office saying they have been. There are a lot of passports and other somewhat complicated transactions - which take "extra" time for the employees to process. Passport processing is assigned by appointments made in advance. There are some walk in rude customers demanding preferential treatment above people with appointments waiting in line to get passports processed. They get upset when they are told that there are customers ahead of them with scheduled appointment times and they can take a seat to be fitted in if possible; or try to locate another post office that can accommodate them right on the spot. Each post office schedules their own appointments and do not take walk in schedule appointments made at or with a different post office. It doesn't make employees look bad because they are following procedures. read more

I've been coming to this post office for years without issue. The other day I had a priority package that needed to get to Sacramento in 2 days. I used regular postage to pay for this package and handed it over the counter. The postal worker handed me a receipt and I thought everything was groovy! Three weeks later the package was returned to sender because it was over 13oz and not post marked correctly. I won't be using USPS for anything time sensitive. Also, they need to train their employees better. This wouldn't have happened if this new employee had been trained correctly. At one point she asked her co-worker for help and they spent 10mins bickering with each other while a line of 6 people waited. You want my money USPS? Step up to the plate and stop acting like a lame duck! read more

This is the best post office! The people that work there are actually nice!!! No glass btwn you and the worker, trying to act like a damn bank, what the hell people gonna rob stamps?? No glass spiny thingy that you got to try to fit your package in. Really nice and clean. I love how they have pens set up you think it is a bunch of fake flowers in a pot but its not, they are fake flowers that are taped on pens so you can use it when you sign your credit slip and you wont commit a felony and steal it from the government! They have a postal machine in the lobby that is really cool it weight it and everything, they also have a stamp machine so you don't have to wait in line. I have never really had to wait a long time at this post office. I think the longest i ever waited was 7 minutes, yes, i counted! Don't get my started on how long i have waited at other post offices!! ha ha this is truly a great place to go if you want peace of mind and are not far from Orinda! read more

I have written a review before about the Orinda Post Office in Orinda, Ca. especially about Mia, one of the postal ladies who is always so helpful, efficient, and kind. She always makes me laugh when I come in and I enjoy my time at the post office because of her. Well, someone who does the hiring there is "right on track" because the entire staff is wonderful. I have had occasion to be served by Julie and lately by Jeannie, both of whom are wonderful, kind, gracious and helpful ladies. It is a pleasure to use the Orinda Post Office as I never leave without feeling uplifted and always with a smile on my face! This is for the Orinda PO. Like others have said, there is one woman in particular, Mia, who is very snarky and aggressive and likes to mix it up with the customers. She makes the experience of dealing with this branch particularly distasteful. My daughter also had a problem with the same person the previous week. She is not helpful, "No" is her middle name. She is rude and interrupts you, does not listen or care about a problem with your mail or package and you walk out of there frustrated and without your problem resolved. I prefer to use UPS or FedEx Ground now. Never a problem or attitude and always professional. I can see why this branch has received such a low rating because of this individual. read more
