Oh snapp it's not even my Birthday! But it's my 100th review so I'll Party like it's my birthday! Commute Connection is so WORTHY of having the privilege to be placed as my 100th review. If you have been living in a cave, you probably have not heard that gas prices are ripping us a new hole in the back and that stimulas checks were a crock of shit and they shorted some of us. I have been commuting by myself for quite some time from San Joaquin County to Alameda County. My commute cost just to get to my job has been raping me and has caused me to neglect other needs in my life. Because I have numerous speeding tickets and other traffic violations, I CAN'T AFFORD one more f-in ticket. I have MAXXED out Traffic School. I had a serious revelation one day after I had to change my battery and reprogram my radio on the freeway. I realized that what I would listen to on the radio would send a brain wave to my foot and I would just go INSANE IN THE MEMBRANE. Hip-Hop had me Hoppin in and out of lanes like I was running from 5-0. Some R&B songs had me Pushing my foot down harder and Flashing back down memory lane and I would damm near be about to RAM someone from the back from going back into some scenes that happened when that song was out. But Jazz and Classical music eased my mind to the speed limit and to drive carefully leaving the appropriate amount of car space and not being in a rush! One day as I was listening to classical music I heard Commute connection's commercial. I called in for more information and the next day I created an account and found my matches. After reviewing my few matches and making some calls I had 3 potential options. A.) Join a vanpool and pay $220 a month, which was very much what I was already paying to drive myself. B.) Join a carpool that was already formed but be willing to sacrifice more time, because they got off an hour after I did. C.) Contact more matches's and form a new carpool or rideshare. So I choose option C. So I contacted other matches and left the door open. It took a good 2 weeks of phone tag, but I have found my COMMUTECONNECTION! Both of us were already leaving at the same time in the morning that made the match work. We meet at a central location in the morning and trade the driving duties every week. We have had a successfully commute for 3 weeks. We drive our own cars on our week to drive and we pay the cost ourselves, so there is no exchange of money for this or that. My costs have been cut in HALF and I am loving it. It is helping me to be more disciplined overall! I am on time to work now and beating everyone to work, which I was driving like a demon out of hell trying to get here and always late. There is not that much of a sacrifice in order to save some cost. It is about 30 min on both of us when it is our turn to drive. We work less than 3 miles from each other so not that much of sacrifice. The best thing is that we were willing to try it out and if it didn't work, it just didn't work and we would not be obligated in continuing the rideshare. Commute Connection links you with people who have registered on the site and work close to your job and live close to you. I took a small group of youth to the Ceres Center to have a global village experience. We stayed 2 nights in the village with a reduced diet meant to approximate the quantity and type sof food available to migrant workers. We slept in the dirt. We were not allowed showers. We were hungry. We learned so much! We came away with the most amazing sense of gratitude and responsibility. It's a great way to re-evealuate yoru relationshipw ith food.

I worked along with Heifer's Sandy Groll to plan a board member retreat for the African Well Fund. Sandy and her team went out of their way to make us feel welcome and special. The Ceres Center has two meeting spaces available - cost is by donation only - no fees. We used the smaller interior space, which was well air conditioned and well suited for our purposes. In addition, they served us snacks and lunch - much of the food served was grown onsite. DELICIOUS! We toured the facility and learned so many things about housing, shelters, animal husbandry and farming. The docents are very knowledgable and friendly. The Ceres facility also has a children's garden - which is absolutely fabulous. Tip #1 - If you are traveling there from Southern California - don't take the 5 freeway all the way . I learned this the hard way - it is much longer than taking the 5 to the 99. It was great to see so much of the California Acqueduct, but it made for a very long drive. Tip #2 - Do not stay at the Red Lion Inn in nearby, Modesto. There are other lodgings that are better and closer to the Ceres center. Myself and a group of pilots I fly with were invited to Oakdale Airport this past Saturday…read more(3-16-13) to participate in a Spot Landing contest. The contest, which was hosted by EAA Chapter 90 included a breakfast, the contest and a BBQ lunch. Because of a delay, I didn't make the breakfast but, I heard it was one for the books. I did participate in the landing contest and afterward, enjoyed BBQ'ed hamburgers, hotdogs, chips and sodas while talking with friends and other aviation enthusiast. I had never flown into the Oakdale Airport before but, the folks treated us first class. Leaving me to wonder on my trip home why I have never stopped in when it's only a 20 minute flight away. The airport runway is well maintained. They have a park just off the runway which would play host nicely to a day trip and a planned picnic. As for food outside of the airfield, I couldn't tell you. But being so close to Modesto, I would think there are plenty of places to grub once you've landed.
