Was told to come here from the people I bought my car from because my check engine light came on 3 days after buying my car. The very moment I stepping this place I was ignored until the male tow truck driver came with my car. They had my car for a month and now 2 months later after "fixing" the problem my check engine light is right back on. Come to find out nothing was fixed. They only made it for the car check engine light to go off. I came to Universal Auto Repair today as I was getting estimates for my vehicle damage. They were not very welcoming to me, not friendly, the customer service was not there. I was very warm and friendly and they were not very inviting or open to me. I smiled at each of the three men that I encountered they each looked angry. The vibe that I received was almost like I was inconveniencing them. They asked me to come back when a certain individual comes back. Adam and his coworkers read the codes and called it as a secondary air pump failure (I never heard of this but I am not a mechanic). New pump was installed and the check engine light reset. The best part about this place is Alex knows diesel ... like Bo knows football .... EVERYTHING ! Have a 1984 190D that had a bad glow plug ... I could tell .... hard starting. Drive to 10th Street in Old Pittsburg ... go into this dark dank repair shop, right out of the 50's, .... parts n'cars n'fenders n'engines scattered around the shop .... was waiting for James Dean to walk out of the back room .... and I head for what looks like the office .... papers, manuals, office equipment piled on desks .... and there you find Alex. So I introduce myself, we talk for moment about the potential problem, and without saying another word, he roots thru the set of drawers at his desk pulling out handfuls of whatever and finally after going thru three drawers worth reaches way in back of a drawer and finds a glow plug.Great inventory system! He doesn't say a word, walks out to the ca with a test lightr, motions me to lift the hood, I do so, he opens up a relay that sends signal to the glow plugs, test all four of them, finds the dead plug, calls his mechanic who pulls out the old one and puts in the new one takes me back to the office, makes out an invoice ... $20 bucks for labor $15 for the glow plug .... and we're done! Then I get the tour of the "yard" in back, full of old Mercedes diesels and BMW's just waiting to be brought back to life. Classics from the 70's and 80's. .... After talking for a good part of a half hour I can assure you .... this guy knows diesels like nobody I'ver ever run into around here. It may be funky .... but this guy knows his stuff and you don't pay and arm and a leg to get you diesel diagnosed and fixed. I'll be back ..... read more

I went by and bought what we're supposed to be 4 new tires and 4 brand new rims and spent $1500 on them. Within 2 days of driving one of my tires blows on the freeway at 65 mph. I bought the warranty through them for my tires and figured it would be all taken care of but boy was I wrong. The minute I brought my tire inside to show them the blow out all they did was say that oh it got cut that's going to be your fault. We can send it in but it was drove on a flat and got cut so that's not going to be covered but we will turn it in. After telling them what do you expect to happen when your tire blows on the freeway of course there will be some driving. You need to pull over and get safe. You can't just dead stop in the middle of the road. Except they didn't care at all and kept saying it was my fault trying to find any way out of the situation. At this point he turned to a random customer and said see what I told you clearly indicating he had been talking about me to a random customer that I was going to be a problem before he even talked to me and treated me with his preconceived idea that no matter what I said or showed it was my fault and that was his belief no matter what. At this point I told him this is some sucker shit and you have tried to find any way to get out the warranty they sold me as well as the disrespect from talking about a customer behind their back to a random customer with what ever belief they had determined before having all the facts. At this point one of their fellow managers came out and said we have been here for 10 years and have family all in the neighborhood and we can go handle this outside if that's the way you feel. Threatening to fight a customer and threatening to have their "family" jump me because of their bad business practices. They will sell you a warranty and explain it covers everything and then go back on that when you have an issue. Then once you call them out on their bad business practices threaten to jump you and fight you. Unless you want to have the worst experience ever I would stay away from this shop like the plague. read more

I took my car there after having a bad and costly experience elsewhere. I had called Universal and explained the problem and they said I could bring it right in. Their technician looked at the car and discovered a major problem with my electrical system. I left the car there and Angela called me with my repair options. During the repair I was informed of each step and the car was returned to me on budget along with the faulty part so I could see the damage caused by the use of inferior parts.
