First, Fab is just that: fabulous. I called late in the day after just getting four (4) new tires. The wear on the old ones made me suspect the alignment was WAY out of spec. Their tech, Albert, did the whole job in about 30 minutes. He was also fabulous. A mechanic who just looked at the bolt and knew the exact wrench to use. Advertise they do alignment for semi trucks. Waited an hour to get in. Then waited 2 hours for them to hook up equipment to start alignment. Screwed around for over an hour then said they couldn't do the alignment. To close to closing time. They didn't have the time to do it. Wasted 4 hours for nothing. Called four local brake shops for quotes on identical brake repair and got four results; $330, $350, $600 and $800. Universal was the $330. I took my F250 in at 8am for free brake inspection. My truck was shuddering when I braked. They found a "cracked" front brake pad. They resurfaced both front rotors and put on premium front pads as I tow a fifth wheel trailer. Final cost out the door $234. They said the rear brakes were fine. I did not id myself as the person who called prior nor tell them any of the quotes. What they told me over the phone and in person were consistent. I talked to a taxi cab driver while I waited who traveled over 20 miles to bring his cab for service because he said he only trusts Universal. Tip: If you come in the early afternoon, they can probably service you while you wait faster. They were very busy the morning I was there. It took them over two hours to do a simple brake job, but in fairness I arrived without an appointment. read more

I haven't had much done here, but I gave it five stars because I believe they are honest! I had two mechanics tell me that I needed front end work done that would be very expensive... Mind you, my truck drives great and isn't off or shakes. When my dad came into town he said, "no way!" that I needed to do all that. I brought it in to Universal and asked them to check the front end without telling what was previously recommended. (I made that mistake with the second mechanic.) They told me everything was great just needed a slight alignment which was very reasonable. I told him my story and he said not to worry. Six months later, my truck is doing great! Super pissed off!!!! That explains how I feel about Universal alignment. I brought in my lifted Jeep Cherokee to have them align 4 Link rear end. I also wanted them change out the steering arm, put two new shocks on and get my windows tinted needless to say two days later going to pick it up on Friday, nothing has happened told them I needed it for the weekend. They ordered the wrong shocks, the mechanic was trying to change out the track bar for the steering arm. The rear end is still shifted out of alignment and I don't know what the hell happened to my tinted windows I was suppose to get. Looking at everybody else's reviews I figured they would do a good job unfortunately must be my luck they sure didn't do a good job for me by the way thanks for ruining my weekend Universal alignment. "2 days later" : in addition just found both rear lug nuts on back tires were HAND TIGHT!!!! and my link locking nuts were also loose. You have got to be kidding me. I can't believe this. HOW FREAKING DANGEROUS IS THAT!!!!!!! When I got it back home in my driveway with out a car lift I was able to fix the alignment of my rear axle in 40 minutes and these guys said they couldn't figure it out RIDICULOUS! read more

Used to use them regularly but stopped recently. Went and dropped over $2000 to have an engine rebuild. Probably spend that trying to get it fixed right ever since then. Visiting Indio from out of state, iI was very worried about finding a reputable car shop. I picked Universal because of its rating and I am very pleased with their work.. First, My brakes were squealing every time I used them. I assumed I needed a complete brake job, but Universal looked at them. Determined they were just dirty from the dusty and sand inthe area, cleaned them and told me I still had over 50% of their life yet. I also had a leak in the pipe tube leading to my rear air conditioning unit on my town and country which allowed the cooling gas to escape. This had already been confirmed by a Chrysler dealer. Universal took the leaking tube, had it welded and back in place within 3 hours. All of this on a Friday and at a reasonable cost. This company went beyond good service and really saved the day. read more

The guys are great. Even after the sixth time back when they gave up and gave me back half the labor costs for a brake job they just couldn't get right. I know they honestly did their best and kept great attitudes. Their suggestion was to take it to Toyota. I took it over to Ramona tire. After redoing the work and using the same parts it's fine. Unfortunately Universal turned my rear drums too many times so there was only one remaining turn but it stops fine now. They also charged me for unneeded parts. In their defense at the time I could see where they thought that could be the problem. When I called to let them know the results of the additional work they were very nice and said at least I had it fixed now. That's true. I paid Universal $225 for labor plus $46 for parts. They gave me back $112.50 when they gave up. To redo the labor was $225 plus the other $112.50 plus $46 for useless parts. Essentially I'm out $168.50 plus lost time for the six return visits. If there had been a mystery why they couldn't fix them I would understand however all that was needed was proper installment. I wish there were another explanation. They've taken care of an A/C issue and a brake problem for me so far. I was impressed with their level of competence and the prices they charged. When a problem came up on the A/C job that really wasn't their fault, they took care of it and didn't charge me anything although I would have gladly paid. I took my car for 2 things; oil change and breaks, the oil change indicate came on literally that same day at night. My breaks were squeaking worse than when I took it in. I took my car to be inspected to 2 local mechanics and they both told me that the oil change needed to be done. I took my car to this place and the "Owner" Abel told me that the breaks were bad and that he forgot to reset the oil change indicator. I asked him (A) how do breaks go bad after 6 weeks and how is it that you say that you forgot to reset the oil change indicator when it was off after the service and came back on after the service?.... I took my car to jiffy lube to get the oil change done and I asked able to fix my breaks and refund me for the oil change. He refused to refund me for the oil change. 2 things I asked to get done and 2 things were not done right. I'm sure this review is gonna cost them more than the refund I requested for their horrible service. Don't trust this scammers!!!!!! read more

We pulled into Universal without an appointment Saturday morning and inquired about the cost of new brakes on our 2008 Honda CRV. Abel greeted us at our car, gave us a quote and told us they could have it ready in two hours. We left the car with them and 2 hours later it was finished. Price was as quoted. I brought my Jeep in to install quick disconnect sway bar end links from R/C the first time and got there early but they half-ass installed them and said that they didn't have the tools that day to mount the mounting bracket. On they same trip too they "replaced my track bar" for $500 and I found out later it didn't need to be replaced. On a second trip (I called a few days before and had them order bushings for my rear shocks) I come in a few days later because they never called and claimed to have lost my contact info and they've had the parts for a few days, I got there about an hour after they opened and they didn't get my vehicle in till an hour before they closed and they claimed again that they didn't have the correct tools to do the job. The next day I go for a trip out to ocotillo wells and I have to ZIPTIE my endlinks up so I could go Offroad, and on my way back and after reconnecting the links (only going 65mph) they fly off as I'm driving. I highly don't recommend this place because they do shitty work and charge way to much. read more

Went in for an alignment. They were done with the job in 15 minutes, which is record time for a front end alignment. So I paid $60.00 and i was given the work order with the alignment readings. I looked at it and the numbers were the same from before and after, meaning that they had not adjusted anything or even turned a wrench on it. No wonder they were so quick. Anyhow i told the manager why i was being charged the full amount if the car was not aligned. And the white boy said he was sorry. I told him dont be sorry be reasonable. You should charge me for inspecting it not a full alignment. He again said sorry about that. Alright never again will i take my cars to your shop for an alignment. This was the second time i got an alignment there and it was not done right, so keep on ripping ignorant people off. By the way you should hang the consumer affairs posters up on the walls, per guidelines, so that people know where to call when they get screwed. Went to i10 Toyota that was trying to charge me $3500 after I already paid a couple hundred for a tune up, but they couldn't diagnose the problem on my 4Runner, so they said it needed a head gasket seal repair. Took it to universal and within 10 min they knew what the issue was. One of the fuel injectors was not working properly. They fixed the issue for less than $400. The problem was solved. You would think Toyota would understand their vehicles. Quick, excellent professional service at a fair price. I recommend them to anyone especially for brake service. read more

Extremely bad customer service, rude mechanics not even technicians. Tell you a certain time and it ends up taking 4 times the amount of time stated. The prices are not reasonable whatsoever. They tell you go ahead and leave and when you come back your vehicle is finished yet you return and they haven't even started working in the vehicle. I would not recommend this place to anyone, the prices are high as is might as well go somewhere with a guarantee and experienced technicians! read more
