If you go to this trucking school make sure to deal with Mario. Mario is a great worker and instructor. Mario is the only reason I think this place is still open. The other trainer is no good at all and does things his way not the right way. My first day at this schools was a total wast. The day I went to take my test at the DMV the person that was supposed to be at the DMV to use the truck and trailer was very rude and very lazy. The truck had a few issues. The truck felt way different then the ones you get trained in at the school. The two girls that work at the facility are nice when you don't complain or point out the issues you notice during your time with them. Where can I start? I came to this school In March, they gave me tips to pass my write test which I did on the first try. Then I was schedule to start my driving in April- May. Class was a Total of 4 weeks. The instructors are Nice, Mario was my instructor for all my classes (thank you so much Mario) 1 weekend I had Oscar, he was nice too and very informative. After my 4 weeks I had my driving test on May 6, which I passed at the first time as well. With this being said I recommend this truck driving school 100 percent. This school was not worth it. Old ass trucks and the girls in the office are a bunch of idiots. My instructor was cool but barely spoke English and I don't speak Spanish. It didn't make sense why I'd have an instructor that mostly spoke Spanish ESPECIALLY since you can only do your test in English. Zero help with getting my permit/endorsements. Sucky school if you ask me and it's obvious their #1 goal is money. If I could go back I'd go to SPCDL. Even though I was not a student there and never paid them a penny they were exponentially more helpful especially when it came to getting info about the text/dmv processes. First of all. I want to thank Julio my instructor who showed me and taught me everything I needed to know. From start to finish showed me the basics. Straight line backing. Offsets right lane and left lane. Parallel parking. Alley docking. Air break inspection . Pre trip inspection. He shows you 2-3 times n then ur on ur own. Any mistakes u make he's there for u to correct them. Correct your mistakes. Do it right. I signed up in September. And passed on my first try at the dmv in november. Take advantage on ur practice time and get it down as quick as you can. It's not hard. It gets easy if you really put your effort in it. I knew nothing about driving a tractor trailer and now I have a CDL A with doubles and triples and tankers. Really study the air brakes inspection. You cannot get any errors at the dmv or you will fail . Know the in cab inspection. Study the pre trip inspections around the tractor and trailer. It's not hard. Don't wait to the last minute and practice practice practice. You don't want to fail at the dmv and then wait another 3-4 weeks to retake the test. Best part of this was when we were driving on the road . Jumping on the freeway and really testing your skills handling a commercial vehicle. Practice your turns and for the trailer not to hit or scrape the curve. It's an automatic fail at the dmv The ladies in the office were great. Had all the answers to my questions and very knowledgeable. Prices are reasonable and if u want I think you can make monthly payments. Overall my experience with this school. Universal Truck Driving school is a pretty awesome little gem in Upland Ca. Since my first phone call to Patricia and her Sister Veronica I felt welcomed and part of the family. These ladies welcomed me with open arms and truly care about helping to obtain your CDL. Upon my fist day and meeting Mario the schools down to earth cool instructor I just knew I was in good hands. These three individuals I can not thank enough they each provided me with information for me to be successful to get licensed. Providing insight and making sure I knew everything I needed to know to pass the DMV test. Universal gives you all the info to pass your written test, but it is up to you to do your part and study study study with the tools they provide you which are plentiful. Once you have gotten your permit they make sure to keep you on track to know the exact terminology the DMV is looking for to pass in cab air brakes and walk around tests. Mario was super helpful teaching me yard maneuvers and on the road test drive to make sure I was successful to pass my road test. He provided good feed back that I was able to take and put it to use and pass my DMV exam. Besides knowing how to drive a manual, I didn't know a damn thing about driving a tractor trailer prior to attending the classes. So, before stepping foot in this place, I went ahead and called their office to get an idea of the process. I spoke to Patricia and she did a very good job at making sure that all of my questions and concerns were answered. She made the entire process easy from the beginning and was definitely a pleasure to speak to. Their flexibility with my schedule was second to none as I've had to make a few changes throughout my time there. The instructor, Julio, is very knowledgeable and more than willing to assist in any maneuver or technical aspect of the classes you are having a problem grasping. He's pretty laid back and straight to the point which is something I appreciated. Unless you're about to crash into something, you don't have to worry about getting yelled at while constantly making mistakes. Just follow the instructions and make sure to STUDY THE HANDOUT. Long story short: I PASSED. They do provide the tools you need to pass the test, the rest is up to you. You really have to work at it if you are having any trouble or any brushing up you need to do. There is a disconnect between the office staff to the trainer to the guy who you meet at the dmv. Follow the instructions given and allow yourself to make mistakes so you can correct them. But on February 11th 2021 I am happy to say that I passed my CDL Class A driving text all the exams they gave me at the DMV on my 1st try. And its a great feeling... I want to start of by thanking Julio/Oscar my 1st Teachers for starting me off helping me do all my maneuvers, learning all the right angles , when to stop turning the wheel, helping learn all the air breaks and components.. Having the patience to teach not only me 2-4 hours a day but also having time for the other students. They always had time for me never left any question unanswered they had all the knowledge to answer any question I had.. Finally I would like to thank so much my last teacher Mario, such a great guy and excellent teacher, Mario showed me all the key points of the air break exam, the components from the air break there names what they do, how to check if they are working correctly or not... He showed me how to break down the truck by sections, he showed me what signs to look for when there is a problem with the truck.. He had so much patience when we went on the road, if I made a mistake he didn't yell at me or made me feel bad in anyway, he just pointed out how to correct my mistake.
