Despite a few mishaps during our visit, I'm still giving it a full rack of stars. I used to stop here for the occasional lunch trip with co-workers, and this was my first time back since relocating back to the Triad. It was a busy lunch hour when we pulled in, but still able to find parking without difficulty. Several copies of the menu are taped along the booth partitions that create the order line walkway. Lots of options, and I went with the TJ's Club Special. Order taken and paid for at the front counter, and we selected a table near the front window. The place was definitely busy with both takeout and dine-in orders. Restaurant was well-lit, comfortable, and clean. Mishap #1, we noticed a lot of other order numbers being called besides ours so my wife went up to inquire and it somehow got labeled with a different patron's name and put off to the side. Hey, mistakes happen and the order contents itself were accurate. My wife got the half-sandwich and soup and made the comment that the soup was nice and hot. My Club sandwich was PACKED with meat like you'd expect if your grandma had made it. I got my sandwich with their pasta salad and it was delicious. Mishap #2, we were hoping to use the restroom before leaving but it was labelled "out of order". For all I know, a plumber might have been dispatched, but this is one of those things I would think you need to take care of ASAP when offering a dine-in option. TJ's is definitely a must-try for a great deli sandwich. read more

Stopped in at TJ's again for lunch. I ordered something I've never tried before- The Grilled Chicken Wrap. It was hot and delicious although I felt the tortilla wrap was a little stiff like maybe they didn't warm it before adding the ingredients. My husband got an Italian Hoagie. He had them take off the 1000 Island and add mayo instead. He enjoyed it a lot. We also got a side of Onion Rings to share. The first thing we noticed was how dark in color they were and also the abundance of seasoning. My husband took a bite of one and immediately started coughing because of the super salty flavor of them. Having a long history in the restaurant business, we could tell they were re-fried and obviously re-seasoned. He returned them to the counter where they gave us a fresh batch without a problem. The new ones were visibly much better however, as long time customers of TJ's we noticed how much thicker the breading was than it used to be. I was disappointed the batter was so prominent I couldn't really taste the onion. I think they either changed their breading or changed the way they bread them. I wasn't a fan though so I will hesitate to order any breaded items from now on. The dining room, as always was bright and clean bustling with customers eating lunch. The service is nothing but friendly there every time we visit as well. I will continue to frequent TJ's Deli. read more

TJ's Deli has two doors: one for the deli and another for the ice cream parlor. Both are usually long in the afternoon. Both are worth the wait. Ice cream date! This is one of the only homemade ice cream spots in Winston Salem. It truly tastes delicious. The ice cream here is made from local cow's milk and sometimes local flavors. It is so creamy. It's also affordable. A single scoop on a cone is $3.74. Only $0.50 for a waffle cone and $0.25 for sprinkles. The scoops are also very generous! Yummy ice cream for me and two kids for less than $20 is a steal. They also make Italian ice. There's a small table inside the parlor that can get pretty cramped. Luckily there's another table and benches directly outside the ice cream door. An additional enclosed patio seating area is a short walk down the sidewalk. Apparently you can buy fresh farm eggs and local coffee here too! read more

This visit was made as much due to the weather as a real desire to eat here. It was cold, with a slight wintery mix from time to time, and since this spot was the closest to me, I stopped here. Now they have taken the fast, casual concept to an even higher level - you not only have to go pickup up your order when your number is yelled out, now you are ask to electronically put your order in. I'm sure that works well for this restaurant since they do even less, while the customer is ask to do even more. I ask for a glass of water, and was told they do not offer water to diners, but would be glad to sell me a bottle of water! When I looked at my bill, I saw that they had added a 4% charge for using a credit card! No company gets charged 4% for credit card charges processed, most are usually no more than half that %. TJ's never disappointed me until today I ordered to BLT and when I picked it up it just crumbled into the plate it was so overcooked it was ridiculous for somebody to put that out to a customer. High time for an update to my review here. I think my around 30 check-ins (even though I don't work nearby anymore) are a testament to the fact that I still really like this place. The ownership has changed, but an experienced restaurateur in our area took it over, and I think they realized that this is DEFINITELY not a place to try to change. It's not at all broke. Don't try to fix it. My go-to orders continue to be the TJ's club (get the horseradish sauce to dip), the chicken salad salad or chef salad in a tortilla bowl, or the CHAM, now with a new hot honey version. One thing is for sure, with a sandwich or with a companion, I am ALWAYS getting a basket of onion rings. These continue to be my pick for the best onion rings in the area, both in terms of flavor, crispiness, and portion. The best, and I have tried a lion's share. Get them with the spicy ranch and/or horseradish sauce, and you will be addicted. I even have leftovers for the air fryer, big order! I will say, I think (though am not certain), the cold cut supplier has been changed. The club sandwich is still really good, but it isn't my clear cut favorite club in the area anymore. Regardless, with the horseradish sauce added to it, I still love it, and thanks to the excellent sides here I would typically always opt for it. I have tried the hot dog here, it's quite good, but I prefer elsewhere. Same could be said of the burger, quite good, I just have other places around I like it better. This place is great. Buffalo Cham! There's no better place to get a chicken sandwich in the entirety of Winston-Salem. I'll die on that hill. It's got a great family-friendly atmosphere, and an ice-cream section of the restaurant next door. Charging credit card fees, without telling your customers first, is not okay. Online menu does not show that there is a side with wraps, but when you order at the register, it says "no side" under the wrap item and it takes off .75c - At least ask us if we want a side or not. Another issue; no water at a sit down restaurant! Only option is to purchase bottled water! At least have clear water cups, or this would be another expense? It does feel like a stingy place! My wife and I decided to stop in for our weekly Friday lunch date. We walked in and it was very busy! Customers wait in line to place their orders at the counter. It took just a few minutes which allowed us to look at their menu. My wife decided on the Thai Crunch salad (shredded lettuce, red cabbage, broccoli, bell peppers, carrots, tomatoes, cucumbers, cranberries, pecans, crunchy chow mein noodles and grilled chicken served with oriental dressing and in a fried flour tortilla bowl. She ordered it without mandarin oranges. I chose the Cham sandwich (chicken breast deep fried, ham, provolone cheese served on a hamburger bun with lettuce, tomato and mayo. I ordered mine without the tomato and mayo with a cup of Italian vegetable soup. We then took a seat. The orders are then called by order number, ours took about 10-15 minutes. Everything looked yummy. My wife quickly decided she really liked the salad and said she would definetely order it again. I also thought the soup was yummy but felt the Cham sandwich was just okay. They also have a counter on the far end of the restaurant specifically for their homemade ice cream. We were far too full to try it but will stop in the future! I really want to rate TJs higher. I like the small town feel but their prices for a small burger and onion rings was $15. I asked for a cup so I could get some water but they only sell bottled water even though they have water to dispense at the soda fountain. This is an obviously bad business decision. I don't know what took me so long to come here, but it's a new favorite for sure! I love that when you go in you can walk right up, place your order and sit down. The menu has a great variety of options including a long list of sides to choose from. We got a grilled cheese for my daughter which she scarfed down (I tried a piece too of course and it was very good!). I had the Buffalo chicken wrap but got grilled chicken instead of fried and I was most surprised about the portion of chicken. There was easily 3-4 ounces of chicken in that wrap and it was cooked perfectly. Most places fill wraps up with lettuce but here it was mostly chicken! My husband had the pastrami sandwich which he loved. For sides we got fries, pasta salad and potato salad. The potato salad was more on the mustardy side which isn't my favorite but my husband loved it. The pasta salad though was SO good! I will definitely be getting it again next time. Fries were really good too but I did see someone got the onion rings and they looked even better (made a mental note to get those next time). On our way out we stopped by their little ice cream shop and I got the chocolate Reese's and my husband tried the cherry Garcia and coffee oreo. All were SO good! We had a super lunch on our way out of town. One of the only small, local places open on the day after Christmas. They were slammed but handled the crowd well and efficiently. Yes, the deli's further sister restaurant on Silas Creek feels a little less crowded. And getting back out onto Country Club Road after a visit here can sometimes be frustrating. But I can manage those discomforts in exchange for quick service and good food at a reasonable price. read more

I got the Buffalo super Cham with fries, my husband got the double burger and our kids both got the hot dog kids meal. I thought the hot food was really great! The condiments are really good, and free of charge. The Buffalo super Cham was ridiculously huge and really delicious. I split it in half and gave my husband some, the remaining half was still bigger than most chicken sandwiches. My husbands burger was good too! Piled with cheese, it was well cooked and even the kids hot dogs had nice sear on them and buttered toasted buns. The fries were crispy and really good, it seems everything is really made with care. On the other hand, the ice cream was disappointing. The hot fudge was like black spackle or glue. The ice cream itself was okay but overpriced and not worth it in my opinion. Because we were unfamiliar with their menu we tested the waters with something small. Cream of chicken soup w wild rice( I'm a soup lover) was horrible. It was thick as paste and Luke warm I can't comment on the taste because the textures turned me off. The hot dog chili dog ( how wrong can you go?) was all slaw little chili. Wow, where to start. My wife used to eat here when she was younger, it's been years since shes been, it was my first time. I had the double kraut dog, my wife went for the Carolina burger. Both were awesome. The portions are huge and come with sides. I told my wife I was in the mood for a good old school, drip down your arms, mess on yourself, southern burger, that's how we ended up here, they did not disappoint. The place was really busy as can be expected on a Friday night but it moved quickly and the guys behind the line are on top of it. You queue at the line to place your order. They do dine in and take out, you queue at the same place for both. Outside and inside seating, a nice family place and very reasonably priced. Make sure you stop at the ice cream counter for their old school milkshakes and cones. I think this will be a repeat this coming weekend. read more

As far as fried chicken goes, TJ's is actually some of the best I've had in the area. The super Cham is an impressive sandwich which you can get in regular or Buffalo style, and they've got a nice selection of sauces as well. But really the best way to go here is actually to skip the sandwich and get the kids tendies meal! The batter on the chicken is so nice. They've also got excellent onion rings! It's setup as counter service, but you can also call ahead. Either way, we've experienced fast service from ordering to pickup time. The ice cream doesn't blow me away, but it's a solid sweet component to wash down a sandwich with a shake. Of course, the kids are always excited to go, and we are too! read more

I had the chicken salad bowl. Homemade Chicken salad served on a huge bed of salad with feta, sunflower seeds, crasins, mandarin oranges, and inside a taco shell. A very unique combo and I was really unsure about what dressing to order with it. I ended up eating the chicken salad by itself, the salad with balsamic, and the tortilla shell on the side.
