The best Mexican in a while!!! The spouts we platter was a meal in itself! I'll be going back!

Only ordered Togo 1 time it wasn't good. Please explain to me how a restaurant gets to stay open after scoring 40 on health inspection?

Came here on a Friday night with a party of 7 and we were seated right away. They brought two baskets of chips and 5 containers of salsa almost immediately after we sat down (thank u). We all ordered the same thing LOL the Pollo Loco bowl (I think?) which has rice, steak, and queso all thrown on a huge plate. The portion is ginormous and could easily serve 2 or even 3 people, it was $18 after tax which isn't too bad if you were to split it. All the dishes here are pretty pricey but portions are big. Over priced and mediocre to poor food. I had chorizo street tacos and rice for $17. You only get 2 (which is overpriced robbery). Taco protein was good but tacos were missing cilantro & onion and the rice was tasty but ice cold. $9 Steak quesadilla looked awesome in pictures but came to me looking lousy and unappetizing. Sparse cheese, chopped up scattered few steak chunks, and no onion or pico like in pictures. The place was clearly busy and looked a little understaffed. Currently one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in town. Love the choose your own combo. My favorites are Cheese Enchilada, Tostada, and a very solid homemade Tamale. They also really do a great job with their refried beans and Cheese Dip. My daughter ordered their Chicken Wings last time and I was not expecting them to be so good. They were huge, crisp, and had a super spicy house-made sauce and a custom Ranch dip with cilantro. Love this place because the owner always serves me and takes pride in everything. read more

Second time in Birmingham and was looking for some different places. We decided on Mexican and Pablo's was down from the hotel. The outside was lively with patrons, but inside wasn't so much, bland decor. We got sat without too much greetings. Came back and took a drink order. Cheap beer is a good thing. Chips and salsa came, too and the salsa wasn't too bad. Once we ordered the food arrived pretty quickly. Unfortunately, it was pretty bland. Not knowing Pablo's, we assumed it was a chain. Found it and it said it's a Tex-Mex restaurant. Man it wasn't bad but for the money I'd go some place that had more taste and ambiance. I'll skip this place next time. read more

I enjoyed my grilled steak and broccoli more than I imagined I would. This wasn't like a traditional Mexican dish by no means .... The steak was tender and the broccoli was the perfect texture. My friend had chicken fajita lettuce wraps which was different also. She enjoyed them and the serving size was huge! Neither one of us could finish our meals. The frozen margs were good but not strong. The mango and guava flavors were indeed quite refreshing on the patio. Our food came out pretty fast. I've had better chips and salsa but I really enjoyed the cheese dip! Overall this was a cool time for my first time at Pablos. This place just keeps getting better and better! Service is excellent! They keep the drinks, chips, salsa, and dips coming. What more could you want? I've been back to try the Riunite-rita which is super pretty, and the Texas margarita which is great if you like your drinks strong. They have added burria tacos to their menu, but my new favorite menu item and probably go to will be the steak, rice, and queso. The steak is cooked so perfectly. read more

My experience at Pablo's was phenomenal. Not only do they have great staff/service, the food is delicious every time. I got the steak quesadilla with rice and beans for lunch. The portion size was perfect for the cost of the plate, and it came out fresh and well flavored. The chips and salsa were complimentary, and I really enjoyed the chips with their queso dip as well. Maybe one of my favorite things was their house margarita. It had a really fresh lime flavor. I noticed that the prices went up a little at Pablo's recently, but I'll be honest, this place is worth every penny. 5/5 read more

50/50 experience. For every good thing, there was an equally bad thing. The Good: Pollo Loco and Fajita burrito are very good. Good portions and fair pricing for the area. I had the pick 2 combo with beef burrito and Chile Relleno. The burrito was good but the Relleno was undercooked just a little, not bad tho. They also had $12 Modelo beer pitchers The bad: My daughter (7) said, this rice tastes like our school rice... fyi, that's not good, and she's right. The bathroom were rough with toilets leaking. My wife ordered the chorizo fundido. It was swimming in grease? Butter? Not sure but some type of liquid (see pics). The chips were basic tortilla bag chips that had been sitting out way too long, not the cantina style that most Mexican food restaurants have. We've been to 6 Mexican food restaurants right here on 280, CASA FIESTA is the one we keep going back to. #1 in service, cleanliness, and best bang for the buck imo. read more

This is one of my fave spots to get some Mexican food in Bham. Laid back atmosphere and they have live music. I normally get steak fajitas. Came out fresh and hot! I would give 5 star normally, but noticed that the steak seems to be cut thinner and thinner each time I come. Still really good but I do miss the slightly thicker cut of meat. They give you two different salsas. One is mild and one is spicy. The spicy one is definitely hot! lol read more

We visited this restaurant because it was very close to Grandview hospital. My parents just moved to Birmingham and my mom was in the hospital. We got there around 3:30 pm and there were many people eating outside but we were all alone inside. I saw the menu and started thinking we might have made a mistake but we noticed the chips, salsa and queso were very good and were tired and not wanting to go find something else and so we ordered. Let me tell you, this place is awesome. The menu does not do this place justice. The service was great, margaritas were so good and our food was amazing. Used to be better. Food quality has really gone down in the past few years. The food is bland. If you like thick cheese dip, you'll love this. First time at Pablo's in many years. Heard some not so great reviews in the past, but recently a co-worker was talking about how good it was. Took the opportunity to go there for a recent lunch meeting & had a great experience. Although it looked pretty dead from the outside (on a cold January day), there was a good lunch crowd inside when I arrived, which I took as a good sign. My party was seated promptly & the waiter was attentive and took orders & brought food quickly. Had the Avocado Salad with shrimp based on a recommendation & it was fresh, delicious, and ample sized. Beautiful Autumn day. Lunch with my beautiful daughter. We chose to sit outside and that was a fabulous decision. Chips were served with a red salsa and a green salsa. Red was excellent. Chunks of onion and enough cilantro to taste (not too much). Green salsa was a surprise. A bit sweet but ok. Nothing noteworthy. I ordered the pick your own combination plate with beef taco and chicken enchilada. My meal came with refried beans and rice. Mexican rice is usually blah to me and this was no exception. The beans were ok. The chicken enchilada was good. Not great. The taco was a disappointment to me. The ground beef was so heavily seasoned that it made it unpleasant. And it had red grease dripping from it. Just my opinion. Service was very good. We arrived right at noon. I would say I would give this place a second try, as I usually do with a new for me restaurant, but here in the Ham, we are overwhelmed with TexMex. So many better joints to choose from. My bill, meal and sweet tea was above $15.00. Will not return. read more

Pablos in the Colonnade off Hwy 280 is a staple for great mexican food! The southwest eggrolls are crispy and flavorful. The cheese sauce is a nice touch but you can ask for the off the menu mole sauce for a real treat. They seem to update their menu twice a year to add limited/temporary items (unsure if they are permanent, but will be if they do well probably). The new Barria Tacos are great. Very flavorful and not greasy. The sauce is perfect as well. The fajita burrito is a staple 5 star! Its like an entire fajita meal rolled up with miles of flavor! The service is always top notch, fast and friendly. Have not found a mediocre or bad thing yet at this place over at least 7 years since finding it and frequent it twice monthly. Enjoy! read more

First time visiting this restaurant and unfortunately will be the last. Due to Covid, they made sure tables were spaced out which made me comfortable. We sat outside to enjoy the sunny day. The chips were stale and the watermelon margaritas (pitcher) were mediocre and had an odd flavor; not watermelon. Our table ordered the ground beef chimichanga, carne asada and enchiladas (2 beef and 1 cheese). Food presentation was appealing but the taste wasnt. General concensus from the party was that the beef was DRY and flavorless. I drowned my chimichanga with salsa to help it out. The rice and beans were bland as well, which was disappointing since the prices were reasonable. Lastly, our server was very nice but was very SLOW in coming back to check on us. This became frustrating as he was very attentative to his other tables that we could observe. Taco Bell would've been a better choice. I will not return. read more

Pablo's is a local, Mexican restaurant chain. There are three Pablo locations in Birmingham, and I have tried the one on Highway 150 and this location at The Colonade. This restaurant is fairly large, and our party of eight was seated immediately (Friday night around 5:00). By the time we left, the restaurant was full. It is kid friendly, and I noticed many families with young children. The chips and salsa were okay. The chips were a bit thicker than the style I prefer. The salsa was also just okay, but I did like the fresh cilantro that was chopped up in it. I ordered the Buffalo Wing appetizer as my dinner entree. Obviously not a Mexican dish, but the desciption of "fried wings in a special sauce" caught my attention. The wings were straight-from-the-fryer hot, and the sauce was spicy and unique. The eight wings were huge. They are served with a small lettuce salad that is topped with chopped tomatoes. Buffalo wings seem a little out of place on the menu, but I would recommend them. The service was fast. A guy with his guitar provided live music. At first it sounded like a seal at the zoo. But, after we realized that it was live music and he had a chance to warm up it was much better. Overall, pretty average experience. read more

Stopped in here about a week or so ago with a few friends who were craving some Mexican food. Didn't really have super high expectations and just thought we'd grab a quick bite to eat. We arrived during the last hour before closing and were promptly seated and had our drink orders taken just as efficiently as you could ask for. I'd seen a review or two where others had issues with the service, but this was not my experience. The place has lots of options for seating, either inside or on the patio. We chose the patio since the weather was nice. The server came and took our orders and the food didn't take very long at all to arrive. The food...not bad at all. Definitely good for the price point. You can expect to get full or maybe even take a to-go box home for prices that are more than reasonable. They aren't doing high-end, fancy stuff here, just serving good portions of well prepared dishes that you would expect from a Mexican restaurant. Everyone was pleased with their meals and we all left completely stuffed. I'll probably go back the next time I'm craving Mexican. Not a bad spot at all. read more

Our Margaritas (in plastic cups) were watered down, and the two of them with tip (20% because I don't blame the server) was more than $20 dollars.
