Had a pretty negative experience with sales. Gave them all info beforehand, made an appointment to come in, when I arrived they didn't have someone assigned to meet with me and did nothing upfront to prepare for our appointment. They had me working with the newest employee (less than 2 weeks), which I'm fine with, besides it was clear he had 0 training, and no one experienced was helping him. Every single question I had needed to be brought back to someone else which made what should have been a 30 minute appointment a 1.5 hour appointment. Sometimes leaving me alone at the desk for 15-20 minutes. The second the clock hit 5:30 the managers walked out of their office and shut off all of the lights in the building, including where I was still trying to work on figuring out their calculations on the vehicle. Repeatedly I was told "this is just the number in the system, me and my manager don't know why it's that price or how it got to that price" at one point all of the numbers changed and there was also no explanation. All in all, it was not welcoming, felt like they did not value my business, did not take my business seriously, and just didn't care if they made the sale or not. I walked in ready to sign a deal, and they completely lost my business. I was easily reminded why people hate going into dealerships. read more

I had occasion to need to rent a vehicle for a trip. I had called around to all the vehicle rental places I could find. Each one of the places had vehicles that were extremely high in rental prices. I thought I had found the perfect place. The price was good. So I sent a copy of my license and insurance card to reserve the vehicle. Went to pick it up today and was informed the vehicle had been given to a customer that had an emergency problem. The employee was very apologetic and tried calling around to other dealerships to find another vehicle that was available with no success. I was told that no one in the dealership had access to the program for the rentals so they didn't check to see if the vehicle was reserved. I will never attempt to do any type of business with them again. Since the mistake was made by the employee, I was extremely upset. She tried to give me smaller vehicles - even though I requested an SUV that would accommodate six persons. Needless to say, I left without a vehicle. My advice is, if you want to rent a car from this business, be prepared to pick it up immediately - otherwise you may not get one. Just as a second part to this review, I was told that she could not offer a vehicle from the lot because the manager said no because they would not be able to be secondary on the insurance. read more

3 months to repair a deer collision then wrong color part installed I needed my truck so I took it.then I find out the service people broke my windshield repairing the fender? Did not replace my inspection sticker when they replaced said windshield which was not done very well.i found this out from a cop who was nice enough not to ticket me. I called LARRY WELSH the sales director the next morning and he said no problem the paperwork has already been turned in and we still have a deal. Long Long story short Larry saw the trade in that Friday and then COMPLETLY CHANGED HIS TUNE. He wanted verification of this, that, and the other making me jump through hoop after hoop after hoop CHANGING HIS TUNE EVERY TIME.. But he kept guaranteeing me we still had a deal. I had the trade towed to another body shop because of LARRY WELSH'S new requirements for my trade-in damage to be verified. Then the owner jumped in and wanted the trade towed back to their shop. Then the next day the owner jumped in and he CHANGED THE TUNE EVEN MORE. Now he wants to cancel the deal because I did not pick up my new vehicle within 72 hours of it arriving on their lot even though LARRY WELSH, (WHO KEPT CHANGING HIS TUNE), was not permitting me to do so. I was told the works on an oil change would take one hour. I waited almost 3 hours in the waiting room. They kept mixing me up with someone else's vehicle. I'm hoping my vehicle was worked on properly and that someone else didn't get the service I went in for. I remember the last time I had an oil change here, I left my vehicle, and they had it all day. Curious as to why it takes so long to service. To get other services like brake pads and rotars, it is pricy. I had to call my mechanic where I used to live and see if certain services were absolutely necessary and let him know the price. I went in for oil change and tire rotation on 4Runner. TWO HOURS LATER they finished and as we started checking out, the tech realized they hadn't rotated the tires. Another THIRTY MINUTES LATER I left. Never ever ever going back. I. Get free oil changes from a Toyota for three years but I prefer to pay The Ranch Quick Lube instead. I have bought my last three vehicles along with my wife's 4Runner at University Toyota. On the sales side, we have always been treated fairly and never had one problem with overbearing or inattentive sales staff. On the service side, we have been getting our oil changed and other repairs for over 15 years. I can't remember encountering ANY problems with the condition of our cars after a service or with the service staff. They make sure service performs what you want done, explain any problems they've encountered and if it's going to be a long wait, the service staff periodically comes to the waiting room and will explain what's going. That said, expect a moderate wait. U. Toyota has a lot of vehicles going through service. However, the mechanics make sure everything is taken care of, so that's a trade off I'm willing to take. Most times, it's good to bring a book or a computer tablet. Also, there can be sticker shock if major problems arise. University's prices are probably around the same as other new car dealerships, but I know the work is being done correctly and guaranteed They have good coupon deals...USE THEM & save $$$. One last thing...I have never been cheated by the staff saying, "This or that is bad. It needs replaced." when I knew it didn't. In the last 15 years, they have always been straight up with me. So, I purchased a new vehicle from this dealership back in 2019. I didn't particularly like the salesman that I dealt with, but at this point, it's besides the point. I recently had extreme hail damage to the car. Not only this vehicle but to another Nissan Altima that we own. For this kind of service, you are not able to schedule these appointments online. You need to call them. I did that. SIX TIMES! I have left six messages for their service department. None of my calls have ever been returned! A couple of weeks ago, I was on their website. One of those virtual assistants popped up. I told them what the problems were. I have no choice but to go to the Toyota dealership for my Toyota, since there have been several recalls. I explained all of this to them and I was told that someone would get back to me. No one ever has. I called there yet again on Tuesday. I asked to speak with the manager of the service department and was transferred to him. Left my SIXTH MESSAGE! Today is Friday. I have yet to receive a return call from him. I'm not sure what the problem is. I have two vehicles with major hail damage. My insurance company has already spoken to these people, but I still can't seem to get anyone to return my calls! I spoke with another virtual assistant this evening. I don't have a whole Lotta faith that anyone will ever call me back about this matter. If you deal with this dealership? Be prepared! There will never be service for your vehicle if you need to CALL to schedule an appointment! YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN! I got much better service at the Nissan dealership. I should probably rate this a 2 or below, but here I am. Giving them more credit than I should. I bought a new car a few weeks ago, I love it. The customer service and financing service- this is what ruined it for me. Let me start by telling you that I was on the lot for a full 15-20 minutes without anyone coming to meet me or help me. We had to call from the lot. Afterwards, a salesman helped me and was friendly enough, but that's about it. After several offers were ran, they came down on the price of the car and gave me the car on the lot when I was willing to downgrade to get something slightly more affordable. Now let's go to financing. I spoke to my salesman several times about not wanting an extended 6 year warranty. During the financing part- I was given a piece of paper with 4 different options of warranties- at this point I was there several hours and didn't realize that I was supposedly purchasing a warranty that I did not want. I was never told "you don't have to get this" I was told to pick one. Obviously being the first time I've purchased a new car on my own, I picked one, not realizing that I was purchasing a warranty that I already said no to several times. Fast forward to opening my Mail a few days ago and SURPRISE!! I have a 6 year 75,000 mile warranty that I purchased unknowingly. From my point of view, this is shady and kind of dirty. I spoke to several others who have purchased their cars there and the same thing happened! Thankfully, after a lot of emails back and forth with financing, it's getting "taken care of" and while I'm not getting any money back, it's going towards my overall principle. I have had an abysmal experience dealing with the body shop at University Toyota and if you can avoid bringing your car here, I would certainly recommend you do so. It took them approximately 3 months to even acknowledge that they had the appropriate paperwork from my insurance company, after telling me that they were waiting on USAA to update the claim over and over and over. Then, I called USAA while in the parking lot of U Motors and when assured me that they had sent the necessary info to the shop and I explained what they said, the guy came out and told me that he was looking in the wrong place in the system and that he had had what he needed all along. Now my car is finally in for repairs after waiting far too long to get started. Admittedly, I had a LOT of damage to my car and I was expecting repairs to take a fair amount of time. They estimated that it would take about a week and a half. Last week on Monday I called and they said they may have it done Wednesday or Thursday (Wednesday would have been the exact day they originally quoted, a week and a half after April 28th, the day I took my car in for repairs to begin). On Thursday I called in, they told me to check back Friday. Friday came, and I called again and to be told "should be done a couple of days into next week" - seemingly a purposefully vague answer. It is Tuesday night the 13th as I write this, which is a "couple of days into next week," and I've heard nothing from them, not even a call explaining why it is taking more than a week longer than they expected. Each time I call and ask when it will be done the guy just gives me the same excuse "there was a lot of damage on the thing." I know that and I understand that it will take a long time, and that is ok because I want quality repair work done. However, there are one of two things going on here, either this is the result of incompetence on the part of the body shop with poor estimation of time and resources, or I am being lied to just to appease me and get me off your back. If it's going to take three or four weeks to fix, that's FINE. Just tell me the truth so that I can make appropriate arrangements. If I'd have known it was going to take more than a week longer than I was quoted I might have rented a car. I am getting very tired of walking from Mountain Valley to Buffalo Wild wings to work and frankly I feel like my car is being held hostage. As a side note, the body shop manager, Jeff, has a very poor attitude when addressing customers. He seems like he hates his job or just hates the public and speaks in a very condescending manner. Like most of the customers that bring their car to a body shop, I don't know much about cars or the insurance process that one must go through to get repairs done. Instead of helping me through the issue, I was made to feel very stupid and like I was being a burden on him for not knowing specific terminology or the exact steps of the process. With that being said, the ladies (and one particularly friendly gentleman I spoke to that mentioned he was from Philadelphia) that work at the front desk were more than adequate. All were very warm, inviting, and helpful when they could be and I commend them for their work, but unfortunately it did not make up for my dismal overall experience. In general I am very unsatisfied with my experience with University Toyota and I will certainly not be coming back to this shop should I need work done to a vehicle in the future. ******EDIT******* After writing this I read what one another review had to say about this place, and she had a similar problem. In short my experience: -our time was not valued -we felt disrespected -the salesmen were not honest and straightforward -I will forward my documentation of this experience to corporate though I highly doubt anything retraining will come of it. Details: I went to sell my 2005 Toyota and was made a verbal offer which I accepted. The saleman, Mike, told me he just had to get the offer approved and would call me back. I checked with him at that time to see if the following Wednesday would be good to do the sell and he replied yes. For the next 5 days I called, left messages, texted, and received no reply. Then Wednesday I called the dealership only to find out Mike was not working that day. Another salesman would see if he could get the offer approved. Mike then eventually called me back that day saying the same thing. By the end of the day the offer I was made nearly a week before had not been approved. The next day both my husband and I called back, left several messages none of which have been returned to this day. We obviously took our business elsewhere. I'm not sure if he made us an offer he couldn't give us or what but if he would have re-negotiated, we would have listened or if he just let us know he couldn't buy the car we could have moved on a lot sooner. It was a terrible experience that left us in a time crunch and a lurch. read more

My experiences here are fine. I've had my oil changed and had some minor repairs done to my car and things were just fine. The car came back with the work done and I can't remember it ever being so late or delayed that I remember it. Some time back I got an electric car to use for the day and that was something new. I've had some bodywork done on my car and the body shop did a good job. They were backed up during the winter and so it was a bit of a wait. The price was on the high side, but then again when last did you hear of any young person wanted to be a body shop mechanic. It is probably hard to find workers without paying a high hourly wage. That being said, this is a car repair place and so I'm not going to give it a wonderful rating like I would do for a nice restaurant or a nice hotel. I found it interesting in reading the "bottom of the page" reviews that in June, 2012, within five days of each other, three separate (first time) reviewers each gave University Toyota 5 stars. I guess that around that time they must have ratcheted up their service and products to something hitherto unheard of. read more

I take my 2006 Sienna and my 2008 RAV4 for service at U Motors. I made this appointment via the internet and I got a confirmation and then two email reminders. The Works was done on schedule and I decided to drop it and not wait. The service was completed at the time that I selected. They called and I picked up the vehicle which was serviced, washed and ready. There is a lot of construction going on at the site and I would of liked to have some signage around the ongoing construction. read more

The ignition switch on my 2000 Avalon finally gave up the ghost and would NOT turn at all. That problem would pop up from time to time over the last couple of years but it finally would NOT turn anymore. The car had to be towed to University Toyota and I was originally informed that several parts would need to be replaced. Once they got into the repair, they discovered that they didn't need to replace one of the items and were able to reduce the cost. I think any other dealer would have either replaced the "good" part anyway or NOT replaced the part and still charged me as though they did. I've had pretty much nothing but a positive experience working with University Toyota. I purchased a Highlander there a couple of years ago, and have gone back frequently for service. About a year ago somebody backed into the car, but fortunately left a note and offered to pay for the repair. I went to a number of places for estimates and University Toyota had the lowest one. They fixed the car perfectly. The only issue I ever had was after some brake work I could occasionally hear a rattling noise. I took it back the next morning, and they found and fixed the issue immediately. They also gave me a coupon for a free oil change for having to bring it back, which was an unexpected bonus. My experience has been overwhelmingly positive and I'm continuing to take my car there. read more

After waiting for about 45 minutes (nice comfy waiting area, for what it's worth) I was told that they are really booked up, and made to feel like fixing my car was something they did not want to do, but at the same time they did not come right out and say No. I went across the river to a little shop called Denzel's, and they took care of me immediately. I was in the area from Pennsylvania. Decided to take care of a 50,000 mile check up rather than drive home with the maintenance light on. I took it in for a "5000 mile interval check". When I picked it up, my new 08/17 PA inspection sticker had been scraped off and I was given a new West Virginia 08/17 inspection sticker "for free". When I pointed out that I didn't ask for that and the car is registered in PENNSYLVANIA, there was just an "Oh. Well, we'll fix this." The fix was that the pieces of my scraped off PA sticker were taken out of the trash, put in an envelope, with a hastily written note that they would pay for its replacement. And a recommendation that I go over the border to a PA inspection location to have it taken care of. (One representative tried to tell me he thought I could get one on line!) Not how I planned to spend more time of my vacation. The final insult was that when I finally got in the car to drive away, the "Maintenance required" light was still on. After he took it back to have it turned off (did they really complete all the checks they were supposed to?), I was told, "You can just do this yourself, you know." with a brief many-stepped instruction in how. Not the point, friends. If the work was done, the "maintenance required" light should be turned off and RE-SET! Never again. read more

Evidently University Toyota does not inspect their used vehicles before they put them on the lot. I purchased a used Tundra and one of the shocks were missing three of the bolts holding it onto the strut mount and the fourth was half way off. If you hit a big enough pothole the shock can bounce out of the assembly and collapse the front end of the truck possibly causing serious injury or DEATH. read more
