Booked a two hour bike rental on Classpass with Unlimited Biking and had an awesome bike ride across the Golden Gate bridge! I biked from Ghirardelli square to the bridge and back in 1.5 hours. It's normally $20 for a 2 hour rental. Check in was fast and seamless. Make sure you bring your ID/passport (kept during rental for lability) and a credit card (payment for the waiver, $1.99). Option to purchase the $5 insurance policy but not mandatory. The bikes appeared fairly new; the ride smooth and gears shifted seamlessly. I don't bike often so wouldn't know the difference. The quality of the bikes was perfectly fine for a novice like me! They also have other locations in the city - Golden Gate Park & downtown. Not the friendliest encounter with the individual who checked us in. He was not at all informative or really helpful in answering questions which is disappointing when you work for a business that serves tourists. While this worker was checking in my friend and having her sign the waiver he had me scan the QR code on the wall because "it be faster for me to have you do that" which made me download an app, create an account, and by no means any faster. We opted for an all-day rental for $5 more than a 4 hr rental. The bikes worked well, helmets fit, we were given locks and told to "take a photo" of the lock combo which would be our only way to know the lock combo. I wish these bikes had a mount for a phone or even provide us with a map of the biking trails. I've noticed bikes from other rentals had these options. We had a lovely bike ride, returning the bikes were quick and easy and the workers were more pleasant towards the end of the shift. read more

I rented a bike from Unlimited Bicycles in San Francisco and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. During my ride, the bike was stolen even though I locked it using the lock they provided. The shop did not give any guidance on safe areas to ride or park, and when I reported the theft (with a police report filed immediately), I was shocked to be charged $1,000 -- even though the bike was worth around $400 and I had purchased their insurance coverage at the time of rental. I've tried to resolve this with the business, but so far they've been unwilling to reconsider or explain why the insurance didn't apply. I understand thefts can happen, but the lack of clear communication, limited support afterward, and excessive charge left me feeling taken advantage of. If you rent here, be very cautious -- ask detailed questions about their "insurance," what it actually covers, and where it's safe to ride or lock the bike. My bike broke down on our tour of San Francisco... the chain and derailleur broke and fell off the bike. There were four of us in our group and we had to walk back to the rental center. We called hoping we could be picked up but there was not a van available. We were on our own. I have requested a refund of our bike rental fees but Unlimited Biking has refused. I am going to see if I can get the charge reversed through my credit card company. I definitely recommend against renting bicycles from this company. They treat their customers like dirt. read more

Booked three bikes online and everything was so smooth and easy when we got there. Maggie helped us set it up and Alex got our bikes, locks and helmets situated! We ended up biking all the way to the bridge when one of our bikes broke. We called and Alex was great with us. Unfortunately we did not add in the insurance, so we had to pay extra for the bike that broke but Alex drove all the way to where we were and got us a replacement bike so quick and we were able to enjoy riding the bikes for the rest of the day around San Francisco. I had an extremely disappointing experience with Unlimited Biking in San Francisco. Despite providing our height during the advance online reservation, they didn't have the right bike sizes for us. This led to a dangerous situation during trial where my wife almost fell and got injured. While they took back the bikes, their billing department informed me they couldn't provide a full refund. Moreover, the e-bikes were poorly managed, not fully charged, lacked locks, and some didn't even have stands. Although the service associates were polite, they weren't very helpful. It's frustrating to encounter such unsupportive behavior and a refusal to issue a full refund. I would caution others to consider these issues before renting from Unlimited Biking. Previously, I have rented from Blazing Saddles a couple of times and was very happy with their better quality bikes and level of service. During one point when one of the bikes got damaged, Blazing saddles came down to our location (almost 10 miles away) and issued a replacement bikes, accommodated for the time lost, and did not charge us for any. Despite having a pretty good biking experience, my family and I were disappointed in the service at Unlimited Biking. The guy who got us our bikes was rude and unhelpful. When I asked him the route to go across the Golden Gate Bridge, he had no idea how to answer. Regarding a broken bike halfway through our rental in Central Park. Unfortunately my bike broke at the north end of the park and I called for assistance, because I was falsely told I could get assistance if something went wrong with the bike. When I called I was told they couldn't help us and my husband was forced to walk the bike back via subway. The chain wasn't working either so he had to carry the bike most of the way. My sister was visiting a week ago and we, of course, decided to rent bikes to cross the Golden Gate Bridge what everyone should do when visiting San Francisco. The to-go rental place would obviously be Blazing Saddles Bike Rental since they are dominating the market with a lot of locations across the city. However nothing has changed since 2011 and the bikes are old, expensive, heavy outdated. I found Unlimited Biking online. Their website is very updated, modern and straight forward. They only have one but the perfect location right at the Ghiradelli Square Plaza where you would start anyways when you're heading towards the Golden Gate Bridge THE PRICE OF $20 ALL DAY is by far the best! The bikes are black or bright orange, super light (how it should be in 2019), super clean and modern. These are really the best bikes you can get, trust me! Basheir one of the employees helped us out and we had a great experience. I will definitely use their service from now on whenever friends are visiting. read more

I took a month off after using Unlimited Biking quite a bit in July. I decided to return today using ClassPass. It was a good activity and I decided to try a different route by going out to Crissy Field and along Bay Street to Crissy Field closer to the Golden Gate Bridge. It was a good adventure. I trust the bikes and the equipment so that makes it better to get out than taking your bike across town and trying to fix it up for yourself in SF. I have seen San Francisco through a new lens by biking with this company off of ClassPass. It's been a fun opportunity to get around the Embarcadero and then Crissy Field. Awful experience today.. we hired 4 bikes, including one of the larger e.bikes, unfortunately we got a flat en route to the Golden Gate Bridge and the 'customer service' provided no assistance whatsoever. If anything they made it worse by ignoring us and giving us conflicting information... they wouldn't speak to us directly (only via WhatsApp) directing us to an alternative cycle shop 37min walk away (which couldn't help anyway) and then expecting it to be pushed back to the location over a 1.5 hr walk away... This was a 40kg bike, and very difficult to push, without the SF hills! It ruined our day and cost us over $240... We cycle a lot, we aren't new to bike hire, flats are a common occurrence when cycling and it's insane that they don't have a contingency plan in place for when this happens. I dread to think how bad this could have been for someone alone, smaller, or older in the hot San Francisco sun! I can't believe a cycle hire company would operate in this way, it is irresponsible. We'd have been much better off hiring the bikes available to hire via the on street racks and that just isn't right... I would never ever hire from this place again and would recommend against doing so if you're even considering it! read more

During my recent trip to SF I wanted to rent a bike to ride across the Golden Gate Bridge. It can be a little overwhelming with how many places there are, various tours (self and guided) places to ride, etc. I did some searching like most people would and ended up booking a bike for a couple hours with Unlimited Biking. I had called my reservation in and once confirmed I left my hotel to head straight to their location. Their shop is right on Beach, easy access. Friendly staff. Got me checked in and provided a map and helpful info. The bikes were in great condition, and they offer men's, women's, kids, and e-bikes. I had a great time, it's a nice ride from their location over to the Golden Gate Bridge. I'm not exactly in the best shape or go riding my own bike at home much, so it wasn't that tough to do. It can be pretty windy as you are riding across the bridge and gets chilly. I didn't ride any further, just crossed the bridge, rested for a few min then turned around and rode back. I was done within 2 hours, having stopped to take photos here and there. read more

We had one of our best days EVER today renting e-bikes at Unlimited Biking. Hoping to book a tour, we were told that tours are not running right now, due to covid. Alex explained the different biking options and as well described routes we could follow. We decided on the e-bikes, and he was very detailed in explaining how to use them, as well as took time to map out our routes. He even gave some GREAT recommendations, all of which we followed and were amazing. We did the trip over the Golden Gate, through Sausalito, and back on the ferry. I think this is my top pick for things to do in San Fran. The e-bike makes the hills easy peasy and this is one of the most beautiful, scenic and fun bike rides I have ever taken. I was with my 10 year old daughter and it was no problem for her to ride the steep hills, across the bridge, etc. I can't wait to bring my whole family back to do this ride again. As a note, October is a beautiful time of year to do the ride. It was cool but sunny and I couldn't have asked for a better day. Our Ferry left the doc in Sausalito at 5:15 and Alex assured us he would wait for us even though the office closed at 6. Thankfully we got back pretty close to 6. Also, I HIGHLY recommend the e-bike. It still rides like a bike but it gives you a little (or a lot) of help, especially on the hills. They are awesome bikes and now I really want to save up and buy one.
