I've done several tours in Chicago and this was one of my favorites. Our guide was very knowledgeable and stayed in character, which was fun. We were on the tour during the lighted holiday parade, but it didn't really hamper the tour at all, just a little more traffic. Having the little printed guide of photos and information was so helpful because it helped you to imagine the people and places even more. I had a great time and would recommend it for anyone interested in Prohibition and Chicago history. read more

This was a fun tour, especially if you're into old gangster movies and shows like The Godfather and Boardwalk Empire. They basically drive you around the city in a comfortable bus and give you the history of Chicago during prohibition times. The tour guide is full of jokes and makes it entertaining, but it is sad that many of the original buildings are no longer there and you have to imagine much of it on your own. Still, it was interesting to see where things occurred and how gangsters once ruled the city. read more

My friend and I took this tour in August. When the sun is bright and the temperate is high n humid. Everything was well until the tour started. The air conditioner of the bus was not working. The workers tried their best to create ventilation in the bus. But the bus' windows were unable to open and the emergency exit on the roof was not enough. We were sweating like pigs n it was sufficating. I lost my breath a few time and All I wanted to do is run out of the bus for most of the tour. It's was just Unbelievable, I don't understand why the company didn't have the care or was diligent enough to make sure their bus was working 100%. It was a great tour but I would not take this tour again unless I'm guarantee their bus will be up to regular standards (air condition on all your buses is not a lot to ask, it's common sense especially during the summer). read more

Was a good tour and worth the time and money. Our tour guide was Biggie Blue Eyes and he was very entertaining. I would like to have had the opportunity to get off the bus and walk around some of the spots where these events happened and get better pictures, even though, as others have stated, not all of the original buildings are around any more. We took the opportunity to walk back to the Holy Name Church to get a better look and even go inside. It was well worth the time. A beautiful church. read more

My mom and my boss`s mom made the mistake of taking this tour lat week. They had nothing better to do I guess. The tour is for those who like to make a ridicule of themselves. The tour guide insulted them by asking if they were married long, because they had lost the joy of life...............needless to say, he's a poor tour guide on a senseless tour themed bus. He felt ignored because they didn't want to participate in the absurd staged drill of avoiding the shots from the gangsters. See, they are int heir 60's, from Venezuela and Spain respectively and their taste in fun is less childish, but you don't need to imply that they are senile because of such. Not everyone wants to be clichè and sing the traditional Italian songs that now seem to be relating to the mob. They were in it for the ride, and if someone doesn't want to participate and be part of the crowd, let them be. Besides, they know a lot more about Italy than the fool doing the tour guiding, at least they've been there many times. SKIP this and take the boat on the architectural tour, much more exciting and less fake. read more

Friends from, home strongly advised me that this tour was a must do while visiting the Windy City. A big thank you goes out to those same friends as they were right on the money with this place. Far and away one fo the most fun tours I have ever been on! Right from the get go I knew this would be a great experience with the cornucopia of gangster information, local Chicago trivia, factoids about all things mob and non-mob alike paired with our tour guides hilarious back and forth, This tour was tops! What I really enjoyed is how they filled in all the downtime during the "boring driving" with festive music to match the tour. i felt like I was back in prohibition era doing rum runs for Big Al Capone himself. Architecture and film tours I'm sure have their merit but for my money this is an experience I highly recommend and would actually do again with different guides just to get a different experience. The folks who run this tour seem to be pretty enthusiastic, friendly, and knowledgable about Chicago's gangland history, but I must sadly say that this was one of the LAMEST big-city tours that I've ever done. First of all, the tour bus is not a modern coach with wide windows or a top deck where you can enjoy the sun & breeze in nice weather. It's just an old school bus with tiny, sealed windows & uncomfortable old-fashioned bench seats. The tour route passes city streets and sites which had some past importance in the Chicago's crime scene of the roaring 20s. However, most of the "historical" sites we passed were loooong gone, and it was hard to appreciate what had happened in the South Loop/Near South Side 80-90 years ago when all you see around you is new construction. A well-illustrated handout with good photos & history of what used to be on each site & street would have helped a lot. Lastly, the entire tour takes nearly an hour, but not once are you given a chance to get out, take a better look at anything, stretch your legs, etc. The whole experience comes off like the most tiresome CTA bus rides that I've ever taken. I almost fell asleep twice. There are better ways to tour our city. Can't recommend this one. read more

I can't believe I forgot to review this! I'm a fool. This review is from a couple of years ago, so there may have been a different President at that time. Take that into consideration when reading my review. (Wayne's World ditilly-do! ditilly-do! ditilly do! ditilly-do!) It was hot has Hades but my wife and I thought it looked fun. WHo doesn't want to ride around in a black schoolbus? They had AC, so the seats were not Untouchable...(sigh) The driver and the guide are both decked out in the costume de jour and throw a lot of "Sonny" ,"Toots" and "Fella" out at you and it's funny. The tour goes from River North, down to the South Side and even pass where the Chicago Fire presumably started. Then back up to Lincoln Park. It's a long tour with lots of info. Bring along a bottle of water and a snack if you can. It's fun, informative and we learned a bunch about our own neighborhood! read more

ok, so i took this tour today. I just moved to chicago about two months and have not really done anything. This sounded interesting and different. I mean, come'on. mobster tour alone just sounds fun. So the tour began with two guys trying to relive the 20s with there accents. It was funny but cheesy. pros: great story telling..awesome knowledge of mob history. they put alot of energy into it. Impressive. cons: alot. let's see. We didn't get off the bus for any photographs and most of the time we were parked on a side while they told us the story. Most of the sites don't exist anymore, which isn't there fault. Only real highlight were the bullets in the church. And lastly, a bit overpriced in what your getting. Thank goodness it was a relatively cool and breezy day because that bus is not prepared for the brutal summer heat. So, in conclusion, if you have time/money to spare and your really really really are into mob history, then go for it. read more

2 hours well spent! Our guides Johnny Six Knives and his trusty driving sidekick Winky made the tour really fun. I am not sure if they are the only guides so try to find out if they will be on your bus. This tour has potential to really suck if the guide is a dud. Anyway, as a fan of mob history I had an idea of the main mobsters on the tour. The guides went in depth about the history of the Chicago mob and drove around the city pointing out the "scene of the crime" and other notable locations and landmarks. People on the bus with no idea about mob life also seemed to really enjoy the ride, if not because of the energy and story telling of Johnny. My only complaint is that they do not sell or allow adult beverages on the bus unlike the boat tours. Oh well, go early then head out for a bite or a drink after the tour. read more

My friend highly recommended this tour for my visit to Chicago. It sounded pretty interesting to me, so why not?! I called and reserved a seat for 10AM on a Thursday. Got to the pick up location at the Rock and Roll McDonald's and waited. It was raining that morning too. It's 10AM and no bus showed up. There was 6 other people waiting around for it too. It was about 10:20 when I called the company and asked what was going on. There seemed to be some sort of confusion with the the bus or something. 10:30AM came around and FINALLY we saw the bus. There was only 6 of us in a big school bus, which was kind of awkward. He apologized for being late. Cracked a few jokes, but the other older people weren't too into in, and I think partly they're pissed because the bus arrived 30 minutes late. I enjoyed the tour very much. They started talking about the time of Prohibition in Chicago. It was very informative, and I learned where the term "boot-leg" came from. Haha. We literally drove all over Chicago which was awesome because I got to see stuff that I otherwise wouldn't have known about or gotten the chance to see on my own. We drove pass Magnificent Mile shopping area, Marilyn Monroe statue, Harpo Studios, and etc. I thought it was a great way to start my first full day in Chicago. The tour ended 1.5hrs later, and I thought it was suppose to be 2 hours. The guide said they say 2 hours just in case there was traffic, but we saw everything. Because of the 30minutes delay, all 6 of us got a free book ($15 value). Cool stuff! read more

****DANGEROUS!!!!**** ********DO NOT BOOK******* Recently we had the misfortune of taking the Untouchables tour in Chicago. It started by them picking us up on the corner of W. Ohio and N Clark St. in front of the McDonalds. Being that it's September in Chicago, it was 89° and pretty muggy, we were looking forward to getting on to an air conditioned bus. Once we boarded the bus it was stuffy and hot, we noticed the big AC in the back, so we decided to sit in the back row, big mistake! There was only hot air being pushed around so once all the other 42 bodies + the tour guides got on it only got worse. We thought that maybe when the bus started to drive it would get better, it did not. We sat on that bus for two hours and didn't hear a damn word of the tour because we were about to pass out from heat exhaustion! There were no windows, no AC and 45 + bodies shoved in a bus on an 89° muggy and hot Chicago day, NOT COOL! There were a few times that I went into a panic feeling like I couldn't breathe and almost had them stop the bus so that my party could get off and take an Uber back to our car. But the worst of it was my poor husband who was sweating so profusely that he had to purchase a new shirt from the Walgreens across the street so that we could finish our day in town with our guest. He was soaked all the way down to his underwear! Once the god awful tour finished and as he was getting off the bus, one of the tour guides commented on how terrible he looked dripping in sweat, with a concerned look on his face he stated, "OH GOD!". Anyone who looked at him could tell he was in a lot of discomfort, it looked like he poured a bucket of water over his head that soaked down to his shorts. Myself and the rest of our party were also covered in sweat, our backs were drenched and our armpits were soaked. There was a group of 4 ladies who sat next to us, also fanning themselves the entire time and complaining about how extremely hot it was and how ridiculous it was to have no AC or windows. I paid 40$ a person to be tortured for 2 hours. It's inhumane to shove people on a bus with air conditioning that hardly works! As we were getting off the bus, we noticed there was a tiny vent that was blowing semi cool air out, that is NOT AIR CONDITIONING! That is not a sufficient amount of AC for a tour, it may satisfy the cities requirements (if that!), it's not okay and it's DANGEROUS! At 40$ a ticket, 45 seats on the bus, 3 tours a day, 30 days in a month, that's 162,000 a month! You can afford to put REAL WORKING AC on a bus! They don't even have a building to go into, I can't imagine the rent in Chicago is 150k a month.... What would happen if you had an elderly person or someone who couldn't handle that type of heat?? Shame on The Untouchables for taking money and giving something so half ass in return. We will not be returning and we will be making sure that everyone knows our experience. I'll be reporting them to the City and sharing my review on every site I can. read more

"Now I'm going to play the Italian national anthem"... and on comes the theme song from the Godfather. The tour was so much fun, I took my parents and husband and we all had a blast. The history was great, we had two tour guides and they went back and forth throughout the tour. Other reviewers said the history part was light but I thought it was facinating and that they had alot of information. It was a good mix between history and light talk (or singing). The two hours went by super fast and we went all over the city. The meeting place was a little odd, but it works, we had a coffee at the rock n'roll McDonalds why we waited for the bus. I will say it was a little cheesy, the tour guys acted out a few gangster shoot episodes that were very corny. However the two hour tour was very informative and historically valid. They take you around town while telling you about historical events, the gangsters involved and the actual location that these situations occurred. The tour is a bit pricey but all four of us felt that it was worth our time and money. We would recommend the tour to friends and family. read more

Dimples and Three Knife Johnny (I might be wrong in that) are great. I went on this tour solo with a group of social studies teachers for a conference. I have always been a huge Al Capone fan...ok that sounds weird...the tour took us through every site I would want to see from south side to China Town, little Italy (Sicily). Dimples knew what he was talking about and was super funny. I wish my son had been with me because he would have loved it. Really cool to see the Valentine's Day Massacre site, where Dillinger was "killed", and even Hull House on the way (not gangster but super cool). It is awesome to see what I have read about so much. read more

I really enjoyed myself, although I wish the driver went a little slower driving. There were spots I wanted to take pictures of, but couldn't! :-\ The tour guides were funny guys and knew their stuff. Very informative tour. I love gangstas, esp. from the 1920's-1940's from Chicago and New York. Even if you're not really into all that mob/gangsta stuff, you still might end up having a good time. I did this tour while in Chicago. My wife was looking for a tour that was unique to the city. What better then a tour of the OG Mr Scarface? I'm not sure why this tour received some bad reviews. Was it a bit cheesey yes. But it was a good cheesy. I felt that the price was reasonable for a 2 hour tour. I think the name of our wheel man was Nails, and the MC was Rocco. The tour was informative and kept my interest for the two hours. We had some gangster gambling and my wife won a gangster coffee mug. So she was happy. Not sure why there is a comment on here about no mention of Dillinger. Not only did they talk about him, the tour goes by the theater and alley that he was shot at. The theater is still the original building used as a theater today. I thought that was cool. Finally, if you are a vet, they gave my friend and I a small break for our service. So I think that was nice. Overall I recommend the tour if you are in the city. Thought it was a good tour. read more

This and the Chicago Film Tour are heads above the rest of the tours I've taken in Chicago. On this tour I learned way more about gangsters than I ever thought of. There was also a lot of Chicago history, some architecture, and other nice tidbits thrown in. I now know what a 'sicilian necktie' is. Unfortunately the city tore down most of the actual buildings where stuff took place, but the guides were so entertaining and smooth with their delivery that I wasn't bothered by it. The tour was recommended several times over by denizens and travelers and I was not disappointed. I loved everything from the bus to the tour guides. Not only was it great for the actual informative tour about gangster life in Chicago in the prohibition era, but it was also a great introduction to the physical city itself. Although I'm not much a fan of having to get on and off the buss multiple times as in most tours, I do wish we had at least a couple chances to get off, stretch our legs and snap some photos....at least for a bladder stop. About 30 minutes into the tour, I was checking the clock and testing the sheer power of my bladder and sphincter. I'm happy to say... sphincter wins. Would do it again with some prep research and an empty bladder and maybe do it when it's warmer. Just be warned for those of you with bladders the size of walnuts...it's 2 hours on a bus with no exit til the end. Take heed and good times ahead. read more

I would not waste your time with this tour. We were excited to get the background of the Chicago mobsters but left the tour wanting more. Sadly the guide left a lot of the tour quiet. I understand that while driving around not all locations were mob related but some better story telling would have made it more entertaining while driving from one spot to another. I was looking forward to this tour after getting a recommendation from a Chicago native, but I would not recommend this tour, especially for the cost. The day I went was hot & humid and the back seat was unbearably hot. My father even reported breathing a gas smell, and after the tour we all agreed we should have just hopped off once we realized how uncomfortable the ride would be. I tend to be the cold one in my family, but even I perspired all through this tour. Definitely get there early to get a spot in the front of the bus. Additionally, while the tour guide was great there wasn't much to actually see since the city has renovated over a lot of the locations. We mostly saw parking lots where something happened in the 30s. The few unique things (church bullet hole, alley near theatre) we had already learned about on other tours in Chicago. Most of the information could've been gained just as wholly via a book or movie. read more

Tourist trap. Sure it will take you through the city, the guys sing and joke around with the customers, but most of the stuff on this tour are pretty basic. They take you through the history of prohibition. To echo an earlier point, most of the buildings are gone now, and there are just "sites" of where stuff happened. Most of which you could pull out a map for, and hop on CTA to go out to see if you really wanted to. I would head for an architecture tour before watching these guys try to engage a half-asleep bus full of geriatrics to sing the Italian national anthem. read more

Loved the tour, hated the bus. I went on this tour on the hottest day this year. The air made a noise, but that was it. Everyone was uncomfortable and it was hard to fully get in to the tour. The hosts were so funny. I'm from Chicago and I hadn't seen some of the areas that we went to. If they fixed the air on the bus and maybe the shocks (it was bumpy) I would recommend it. If you are looking for a air conditioned break from the weather, do not do this tour. I would love to take my family on this tour, but I won't until they fix the air. After reading the reviews on here, I was nervous as I had bought tix for my boyfriend's Birthday. But either people on here are way harsh or the tour guides have really fixed things up. It WAS silly and goofy but in a fun way. It was informative and humorous. Unfortunately, most of the locations related to their tour topic are no longer there. But it's still interesting enough to hear about while in the general area where the building(s) stood. The guides were charming, funny and intelligent and the raffle prizes were really nice, as well as the merchandise they offered. The only complaint we had was that it was chilly on the tour bus (but it IS January)... The boyfriend loved it - he said he thought it was going to be really stupid when the bus first pulled up (it was a surprise up until that point) but that he ended up having a really good time, as did I. If they could make it more interactive, or somehow incorporate stopping on Taylor in Little Italy for Italian Ice or a drink or just do something to liven it up I would have given it more stars. Johnny Six Knives and Winky were awesome! I bought tickets to this tour for my mom. She'd seen the bus the last time she came to town to visit and she couldn't stop talking about going on the tour the next time she was in town. I thought the tour was great. Our MC was hilarious, even if the jokes were a bit cheesy. That just made the experience all that more enjoyable. As a historian, I found the tour to be informative and captivating. They took us to some of the most infamous spots around town and explained in depth the story behind Torrio, Capone, Weiss, McGurn, and even Dillinger. They showed us their hideouts, where they kept up their businesses, and naturally where and how they each died. I can't say enough nice things about The Untouchables Tour. They even honored our tickets despite missing our original tour time because of a delayed plane. These guys are awesome! I will definitely be taking other visitors on this tour when they come to town. Lastly, I agree with others that state the price is reasonable. 30 bucks for a two hour tour that doesn't even feel like a two hour tour because it keeps you engaged is amazing. Was a great tour -- our group of 10 loved it. Nice ride (though some of us were in the very back of the bus and the shocks were not great there... if you have back problems, I'd avoid the very back). The tour itself was very entertaining, the two "gangsters" were awesome, had great stories to tell and really knew their stuff. Not only did we learn about gangsters, they threw in some general history about the city as well. Would definitely recommend it! read more
