Review Date: 04-25-09 "Don't get robbed by these gangsters!" My friends and I are frequent visitors to Chicago and crime history buffs, so we decided to take the Untouchable Gangster Tour on Saturday. What a mistake! It was raining and our tour guide "Louie" refused to allow anyone (there were 40 of us) onto the bus before signing off on our credit card receipts (we were all pre-paid). This could have been easily accomplished INSIDE the bus. Needless to say we were drenched, cold and miserable at the beginning of our tour. There went any hope of a tip right from the start. The bus they use is an old converted school bus; cold, damp and uncomfortable with constant foggy windows. The tour guides' dialog was too campy and overly punctuated with machine gun fire. No one really seemed to know much about underworld history and one guide continually had to look at his crib notes to tell us anything more than "Ahhhh. Ahhhh." There was too much driving and not enough interesting history to suit anyone. The tour could have easily been made more interesting by discussing more about the characters of the various killers, thugs, henchmen and wiseguys and their molls. Even some information about the many gangster movies made in Chicago would have been welcome. In short, we all felt that we got "highjacked and stuck up" by the Gangster Tour mob. Our advice is that if you want a quality tour, spend less money and take the River Tour instead. They know more about gangster history in Chicago than these wiseguys! Suuuuuper cheesy, but very fun and informative! We got a great tour of Chicago, learned a lot about the gangster history and I even won an Al Capone shot glass! I just wish we were able to get out and take a few pictures. Definitely a cute tour if your in Chicago! read more

Loved the tour, hated the bus. I went on this tour on the hottest day this year. The air made a noise, but that was it. Everyone was uncomfortable and it was hard to fully get in to the tour. The hosts were so funny. I'm from Chicago and I hadn't seen some of the areas that we went to. If they fixed the air on the bus and maybe the shocks (it was bumpy) I would recommend it. If you are looking for a air conditioned break from the weather, do not do this tour. I would love to take my family on this tour, but I won't until they fix the air. My friend rented the whole bus for a pre-wedding out-of-town-guests activity. Everyone seemed to really enjoy it! I thought it was cute, fun and informative! Playing tourists in the fun city I Chicago my wife booked our family on this tour. It was a fun time. Great way to see the city of Chicago. The guys giving the tour were very comical. It was pretty cheesy as one reviewer stated but that added to the fun. They were also very knowledgeable of their history. When visiting the city this tour is a must. read more

As a kid, I spent a fair amount of Saturday afternoons watching Al Capone documentaries with my dad which cultivated a mild obsession with all things mafia. Normal? Was a great tour -- our group of 10 loved it. Nice ride (though some of us were in the very back of the bus and the shocks were not great there... if you have back problems, I'd avoid the very back). The tour itself was very entertaining, the two "gangsters" were awesome, had great stories to tell and really knew their stuff. My husband and I had fun on this tour. Our guides were a blast, lots of humor (even when dealing with a very talkative passenger up front) and history...although I wished they would have shared even more history. There were times when they just drove with music playing...more stories would have made this tour even better. Value for the cost...well...knowing what we know now, we wouldn't pay the price again. While we enjoyed it, we didn't feel as though we got our money's worth. To get our money's worth we would have needed more history, less music. read more

Yesterday in Chicago was quite hot. I received a phone call a couple hours before the tour letting me know to look for a different bus than their usual bus, since the replacement had a better A/C. We were a party of three, and when we got on the bus, we could only sit together in the back. However, the PA system they were using was not tapped in to the rows of speakers going to the back of the bus. The guide had a microphone, but only a speaker in the front was working. When the bus was stopped, we could sort of hear what he was saying. But when it was moving, the noise from the engine, road, and A/C (which we did appreciate!) drowned out his voice completely. The last 3 rows of the bus could not hear most of the tour at all. Throughout the tour, the bus was usually not stopped. However, we did get to hear some interesting tidbits when we were. But I know we missed lots of other stuff based on the reactions of the people up front. I did this tour once many years ago, and it was great! I was really looking forward to taking some newbies on it, but it is hard to get much out of it when we can't hear the guide's voice. Maybe avoid it on hot days when they need to use an alternate bus. Given how hot it was yesterday, I don't think I would have wanted to do the tour in a bus without A/C, but a perfect PA system, either. read more

I loved this tour...it was entertaining and informative. I loved that our guides were in costume and stayed in character. I learned things I had not known about the crime scene and crime bosses in Chicago so that was super fun to me. This is a great way to spend a couple hours. My family and I took this tour on Saturday August 24. We were extremely disappointed with the narrator and bus driver. The narrator couldn't maintain his train of thought and rambled on and on. We were unable to see very much from the bus. Most of the buildings are no longer standing. The narrator had to continually stop to give the driver directions. We got off the bus at one location and the driver was supposed to return in 10 minutes. He was gone for about 25 minutes-not sure if he got lost or what's? This tour was a complete waste of time and money. Find a book, CD, or movie - save your money! read more

I really wanted to love this tour. After reading all of the awesome reviews i was excited to bring my parents who were visiting from out of state for Father's Day weekend. We went last Saturday afternoon and as the other reviewer mentioned, the air conditioning was broken on our bus and the tour guide didn't seem to be enjoying himself. He was a very nice guy but not engaging or super entertaining as the other reviews described the guides on precious tours. He was kind of all over the place with the stories and it was hard to follow along. We did learn a few neat tidbits but if i had to do the weekend over, i would have chosen something different for us to do that afternoon. Sounds like maybe it was just an off day so we're super bummed. read more

Great way to spend an afternoon! "Shoulders" and "Jimmy Three-Knives" were entertaining and informative. Really take you back to the gangster times. It's a shame that all the buildings they talk about on the tour are not really there anymore for us to see, but we still enjoyed it. read more

We took this tour yesterday (09.18.18) with Johnny 3 knives & Biggy Blue Eyes. They were hilarious and knowledgeable about the "mob"! Two hours went by so fast and we were laughing the whole time. Johnny was a good driver and AC was good as it was hot yesterday. Everyone's on our bus was having a good time.. So, 5 stars is appropriate!! read more

The bus showed up late, which is OK except they said be there 15 minutes earlier. We went by a lot of places like where Capone's distillery warehouse was, but no longer is and we drove the the area where the St. Valentine's Day massacre happened only that place is not there and the view is blocked by a lot of other buildings. We did a lot of driving through Chinatown and Little Italy, but no significant landmarks were identified. Then there is the hotel that Capone stayed at. It that has been replaced with another building. We did get to see the theatre where Dillinger was caught and the alley where he was shot down. I was also not enthusiastic about the recording of gun fire and they wanted the customers to "duck" once OK, twice maybe but really. read more

Three years ago I took my mom and sister on a Chicago tour. It was great, we had a blast- that's where we found out about this Gangster Tour. My family lives out of state so we finally decided we'd go since we've been talking about it for years. I think I might have built it up in my head all this time because it definitely did not live up to my expectation. The tour was very dry, couple jokes that made us chuckle. A handful of interesting facts, and a lot of dead air. Our main tour guide seemed to bumble his way through the tour with a lot of 'uhh' and 'umm's and we listened to a lot of songs in between the facts. The majority of the buildings they talk about are no longer there so you'll have to imagine a lot through the tour, but it is interesting to think about the olden days where these gangsters did business. The bus itself was very impressive, cushy seats, big windows and a comfortable temperature. Overall it was an good tour...if it was $10 cheaper. read more

I bet the tour is pretty cool but the company running everything is not. We booked a tour for my parents as part of a weekend in Chicago and got an abundance of texts and e-mails confirming all the details. The night before, I get an e-mail saying the tour might be cancelled due to low attendance. Shortly thereafter, I get another text saying everything was confirmed and good to go. The morning of the tour, I get another text confirming the tour but also receive a phone call saying it was cancelled. What a mess! I called back but only got voice mail. I e-mailed back and received no response. My parents went to the meeting spot for the tour and no one was there. So now my parents are out of luck and I'm out the money spent on the tickets. Cancelling the tour for no real reason was disappointing. The lack of communication and not refunding my money in a timely fashion (If I ever get the refund at all!) is what really compelled me to write this review. I think it's important everyone know they should not book a tour with this company. read more

On our last day in Chicago we took the untouchables tour. The bus arrived on time and away we went. Our 2 tour guys were great, Johnny 3 knives and Johnny Rocco. They were funny and kept the tour interesting. We were only in Chicago for the weekend so this was a nice opportunity to drive through a lot of the city. It is tough to see a lot of it on foot so that was good. The tour is around 2 hours so it doesn't take up a whole day. You do stay on the bus the whole time, but there are other tours that you can get off and check things out. Overall a good time. read more
