Came here for a date night with my husband a couple of years ago, and being back again made me realize I've been missing out by not returning sooner. I loved the DJ on the second floor, and I'm still impressed that they have two bars--we didn't even make it upstairs the first time we came. I'm definitely coming back to check out the rooftop next time, especially since it was pretty cold during this event and I didn't get the full experience. Up-Down is one of my favorite spots in East Nashville for a unique date night or casual hang with friends. I recently brought a friend from out of town, and we had such a great time. You pay for tokens (not expensive) and get to choose from 80+ nostalgic arcade games like Pac-Man, Street Fighter, Galaga...all the classics. They also have Mario Kart on Nintendo 64 (no tokens needed!), plus skee-ball, basketball hoops, pinball, and more. The staff makes Up-Down even better. Everyone greeted us with smiles, and the bar staff and bouncer went above and beyond to help me track down my lost phone (thanks again!!). There are two levels (each with its own bar), and the upstairs, dog-friendly patio has cabanas with fireplaces. It's also in the perfect spot for hopping to other great bars nearby. I like that this place sells pizza by the slice. The slices are sizable and can fill up most people with 1 slice. The restaurant itself is also an arcade. Lots of arcades available to play. Mood: Adult only funnnnnn! I've always driven by this place and finally stopped on a Sunday! Best day ever. They have $30 deal with 80 tokens, 6 beers, and a fanny pack to keep. BEST DEAL EVER. The girl at the bar was not having a good day when we were there. She didn't even attempt to talk to us, just stared at us while we tried to figure out how the 10 cent token day worked. We hadn't ever been there before - we didn't know. Anyway, they have a lot of games to choose from and the 10 cent token night made it easy to play pretty much anything we wanted. It quickly got too warm inside even at night though with how hot and humid the day was and the amount of people inside. We had to leave early because of that. I've been to a few arcade bars, but this one has it all. It's the perfect spot for a date or group while enjoying some drinks. I have to say that their drink menu is filled with drinks from college days, which were way too sweet. I ordered the Melon Ball ($13) and could not manage to finish it. I'd stick to beer or a mixed drink instead. They also have a spot selling pizza by the slice or pie too, which was nice. We had a slice of Pepperoni ($6), which was thick. It kind of reminded me of cafeteria pizza, but it is what it is if you want some food here. Aside from the lackluster food and drinks, I liked everything else here which was filled with entertainment. There's plenty of old school arcade games from street fighter to a 4-player pac man game. There's also basketball hoops, racing games, pinball, skeeball, and more. When you go upstairs, you also find a giant jenga and connect 4 to play with. There's something for everyone. We love going to up down. Unfortunately I always forget to bring my tokens and then I buy more. Needless to say, I have a million tokens to use. The first time I had their pizza I loved it. This time was not as good. Im not sure if it was undercooked or if it had jsut been sitting out for a while. One of my favorite little gems in Nashville. Perfect location for pregaming with some brews and pizza before attending a concert down the street. Especially on a Friday when you get $2 pizza slices until 8pm. The bar staff is truly amazing with each visit. The pizza is some of the best you'll find in town. The indoor space is jam packed with the right balance of games spread throughout. The outdoor deck with the picnic tables offers a respite from the indoor noise. I'm a big fan of the up-down! I think it's a fun place to bring friends when you're in the area, especially on Sundays as they have a deal where you can get 6 drinks (beers/seltzers) and a pound of tokens for $30. This is great for 2 or 3 people to split or even up to 6 if you're just stopping in. The game selection is pretty good and they also have Nintendo games (N64 maybe?) that you can play for free. read more

Manager was extremely rude. For context, we had an under 21 member of our party. We were curious if he would be allowed in to play the arcade games, not to drink. To be explicitly clear, we were not trying to break any rules. We explained our situation to the security guard at the door around 3:30pm. He said he couldn't let us in, but to come back at 5 when his manager was in to see if there was anything he could do. We said it's no worries if not. Again, we weren't trying to violate their policy. We came back at 5 (as instructed). The manager came out of the building waving his hand and saying "byyyyeeee". Never greeted us, didn't say no politely. He stopped this after a second and then said "Which one of you is under 21? You? Byyyyeeeeeeeee" and then went back to waving his hand. I think he had a crazy authority complex. Would not recommend this place. The vibes are bad, manager is rude to customers who wanted to (legally) patronize his business. If you can't allow under 21 year olds in, (just to play the arcade games) that's fine! Just say so nicely so that people will come back. read more

Great place for groups of any size! I have been here with a small group of 4 and with a huge party of 20. The games require tokens which can be purchased at the bar. On certain nights they have specials where you can buy a bucket of beers/seltzer and get a cup of tokens with it. They have pinball, skeeball, and every classic arcade game you can think of. The pizza is pretty good, and one slice will fill you up, they are massive! If you have a big group, you can save money and buy a whole pie. They have discounts on slices on certain days of the week. The bartenders and staff are amazing and helpful. We had an issue with the skeeball machine and the staff came to fix it immediately and gave us a handful of tokens for the inconvenience. The best game in the whole place is Killer Queen, you can have up to 10 players (5 roles on each machine). It's a competitive game since the teams of 5 compete to win. There's several ways to win each game, it's so much fun. Check it out if you're there with a group.L but it can be fun to play with strangers too. Great way to meet people. The best time to come is on a weekday since it can get pretty packed on the weekend. Parking can be limited, but after working hours there a parking lots down the road from partnering businesses that allow Up/Down parking. read more

It's an easy place to be comfortable, enjoy friends, and have a couple drinks. It's still fun even if you don't drink, which I love. The games are also cheap- most being only a quarter. Came here on a Thursday to cash in on the 10c game night. You can pretty much play whatever you want for hours for about $5. They have some really great spots to hangout with friends on the rooftop as well. This reminds me of Pins Mechanical, but more affordable, and not as overly crowded to the point where you have to wait to play / use anything. Next time we come we will definitely be trying the pizza which looked and smelled heavenly. My friend was in town and we were wanting to take to her to a place she hasn't been. We were greeted by the bouncer who checked our IDs and told us about the Sunday special they had going on. For $30, you can get a 6 pack of beer/high noons with a pound of tokens in a fanny pack. We were IN. The bar staff were great and let us mix and match the six cans which made for a very happy friend group. We had a few Ultras and the rest were High Noons. Mango was our favorite hands down. We started looking for games that we could play together. Skee ball was a blast and then they had a 4 person pac man. We could also play the X- men game. We tried one game and it was just above our heads. I can't even remember the name but it had bees I believe. Then we played a deer hunting game with guns that just didn't keep our attention. One of the basketball hoops was malfunctioning and some games didn't work but overall, it was a great experience for us because we explored and found a few fun games we each wanted to try ourselves. We didn't eat the pizza by the slice but we saw several people ordering it. They have a rooftop as well with cabana where groups can hang. The pizza parlor serves a few types, but the flavor was no good. However, it will suffice if you are super hungry and can't leave the games behind.
