I had an appointment at 10:30 for an inspection and cleaning, John showed up 15 minutes early. He let us know that our chimney looked great, and didn't need a cleaning and gave us some recommendations in regard to the problem that we were having (bon fire smell when not burning anything, or smoking filling the house mid burn). We bought a new house that has a wood burning stove in the living room in lieu of a fireplace. John came out and inspected our chimney and was surprisingly honest and said our chimney was good for the rest of the season and next season before it would need to be cleaned. John could have just went through the motions of cleaning it even though it didn't need it and charge us the full price for the cleaning but he was honest and only charged for the inspection. We are so happy we found this incredible company. From first contact, through the completion of the installation of our wood burning stove, Up in Smoke provided wonderful service, top-notch expertise, and an overall outstanding experience. After contacting them through Yelp, they followed up with us and got us an installation appointment for the following week. John was on time and completely prepared for the job because he and his wife took the time to find out all the details about our chimney and stove ahead. Before John installed the chimney liner, he thoroughly cleaned our chimney and removed the damper and a gas starter that was in the way. John is also a firefighter, and he is meticulous about safety. He capped the gas line that was used for the starter, to make sure even if someone turned it on, it would stay off. Cleaning a chimney is a very messy job, but they covered our rugs and flooring, and left the area spotless. After John completed the chimney liner and wood insert installation, he walked us through all the the features and operation of our stove. Their bill was the same as we were quoted in our estimate, and the total was very affordable and fair. When John and his wife left, we saw that they had completely broken down all the boxing and materials from the stove we'd ordered, and even left the outside tidy and organized. Due to schedule conflict, we hoped that John could come sooner and he did. They did research ahead of time, knowing the exact model and parts. John squeezed us in at end of the day, and turns out we just did not operate the fireplace correctly. He taught us how to use it, very patient, and didn't charge us because there was nothing wrong.
