We were very confused how everything works and how the class would play out - truly did not know what we signed up for. But overall, good experience! I think it would be more helpful if one of the staff explained to us what was needed because I would have to ask things like if we needed our shoes or socks on or if we needed to place a mat down, otherwise, there were no instructions on setup. Music was quite loud so it was a bit hard to hear instructions. I would have preferred having the instructor show us the move she wanted us to do and then do it with us because some exercises we could not remember what next steps were and we were kind of just standing there in pain not knowing how to undo the hammocks lol. The class was fun and the instructor was friendly though and I think it's a great place to try something new!

I'm beyond impressed by his ability to teach while seemingly-effortlessly demonstrating the moves himself. I struggle with dance technique (and basic coordination---eek), and feel like I'm slowly improving while consistently enjoying a killer workout. Matt's classes are such a warm, welcoming way to start (or end!) the day. Grateful for him, and for the communal safe space that he has built.

First of all, this studio is EXTREMELY hard to find. Obviously it is listed as "Groove Dance Fitness" online, however when I followed my navigation's instructions to the parking lot, I could not find any signage that advertised this business. I circled the block 3 times before parking somewhere random to pull up the website. I scoured the website to see if there was any specific instruction on where to find the studio to no avail. So, I figured I would call the number on Yelp. Once I opened Yelp, it stated that the studio was only open from 6pm to 8pm... I was signed up for a class that STARTED at 8pm. Confused, I called the phone number listed. After ringing for several minutes, it went to a voicemail that only stated a person's name as the outgoing message, nothing about it being associated with Groove Dance Fitness. Feeling defeated, I searched through the photos on Yelp and deduced that the studio was in a certain parking lot I had passed multiple times. I parked and watched someone walk into a door which was labeled under a different fitness studio name, but she was carrying a Burju bag, so I figured I would try it. Upon approaching the door, I saw in very small font to the left of the entrance "Groove Dance Fitness". I knew I was a couple minutes late when walking in due to the confusion of actually locating the studio. However, nobody greeted me. I joined the warm up on the floor which consisted of less than 10 minutes of stagnant stretching and a 60 second plank. Feeling zero percent warmed up, we were then asked to put on our knee pads and heels. I will say that the combination was fun, but I had some aches and pains since my muscles were effectively still cold. Towards the end of the class, the teacher paired us up as "watching buddies" to "amp each other up" during our run of the combination. My buddy did and said nothing as I danced. I decided to leave at 9pm since the class was listed as an hour and I do believe leaving a class early to be bad studio etiquette. This was also the time people were taking out their phones to record and I did not feel like being filmed. The cherry on top was that a fellow classmate saw me leaving and asked why I was leaving already. I just mentioned I have work in the morning. She then went on to ask if I have any dance experience, what my background is, and "who I train with". I stated that I've been dancing my whole life, but had to take a break due to personal reasons. I don't train with anyone as I am just getting back in the game. She then suggested to I try out a different studio that is more "beginner friendly". I politely smiled and took my leave. But not before the instructor noticed me, I told her "thank you for the class" and slipped out. Safe to say, I will not be returning. Personally, I did not feel welcomed at this studio. Hopefully, other people have a better experience than I did.

Dance arts of OC is a great studio for adult ballet. First off, it's a great value class with…read moreclasses spanning 1.5 hours. The 9am (schedule may change) beginning ballet is best for those with prior ballet experience with adults of all ages and skill levels. For those with little to no experience, the Intro to ballet class is ideal. I have taken the classes of many teachers here and they are all fantastic. Joan especially is passionate and helps guide technique and has great attention to detail. I'm also grateful for Sara and Janessa. Hair and clothing is quite flexible. I choose to wear workout leggings and a form fitting top, and ballet class shoes (canvas or leather). Many wear classic tights and leotard, so it is a great place if you want to lean in to ballet wear (though not necessary). If you want a great ballet style bar workout class, called Ballet Barre Conditioning, Joan teaches a great one, ballet experience not needed, though some dancers take this class for strength. I believe socks are worn in this class. If you are visiting for the first time, arrive 10-15 minutes early to fill out the introduction form/waiver, pay, and to potentially speak to a teacher to ask questions or introduce yourself. It is quite easy to drop in and sign yourself in by the studio door.

She takes the intermediate/advanced ballet, pointe and pilates classes whenever she can, and the training is great. Even though she doesn't love zoom classes, my daughter has taken them from Gina to help keep her "on her toes" during the pandemic, and even on zoom, the classes are challenging. She seems to cater to serious dance students, retired and current professional dancers, and anyone looking for a great class. Overall, very positive experiences for us with this studio.

They'll often show different versions of the same movement so you can find what works for your skill level, while still giving you something to work toward. The class sizes are smaller and homey, so you never feel lost in the crowd. The instructors will notice when you're struggling and will come over to help, spot you, or break something down. I started back in April barely able to do anything, and now I'm here every week. It's been really cool seeing the progress over time, and aerial has honestly brought out a confidence in me that I was definitely struggling with before. Another thing I love is how many different apparatuses there are to try. Hammock, lyra, and silks are the main ones, but they also bring out more unique apparatuses depending on the season--spiral, coffin, pentagram, moon, chains, and more. There's always something new or slightly unhinged to try, which keeps things really fun. The vibes are immaculate. The mood lighting makes everything look so good on video, and they even have selfie stick stands so you can record yourself and watch it back later. It's genuinely helpful for seeing your progress, figuring out what to improve, and of course getting a good video when you finally nail something.

Yes, of course I know there are a lot of thicc aerial baddies, but the worries were still there for me. I found this to be a very inclusive space! While I've seen a wide range of skill level- from very beginner to professionals, there is always a feeling of nonjudgment and meeting people were there at here. It feels like everyone is encouraged to show up as themselves. I felt comfortable not knowing and making mistakes. Because of that I was able to relax , let go, and have fun! During the session itself, she was attentive to our forms and adjusted us as needed (great for beginners like me, I noticed some other studios have instructors that just scroll on their phone during sets ). Since there is a max of 5 people per session, it felt more personal and I think everyone in my class got the help they needed. The equipment and studio is very clean and pretty. I was surprised that the equipment was so high quality. The only con I can think of is that there are 3 separate mirrors so one or two reformers would be facing like a third of one mirror, a chunk of wall, and a third of the adjacent mirror.

I was in search of a similar setting, but also aimed to save money. Through group on I had bought passes and tried several classes with various Social Salsa and Bachata groups with out the quality that i was looking for, they all taught combos and broke down the steps primarily focused on the leads role. I felt as a fallow we were there just as learning tools for the leads which was very disappointing. There is so much more to being a follow, and so much more to dancing then just learning the steps. RF was next on my list, I had been following them and a friend invited me to a social dance at the studio. I met Mike for the first time, was a great host, extremely welcoming and friendly. He invited me back to the studio with a complimentary pass for a fee trial class. My first day I arrived to observe a class so i could watch and get a feel for the studios tone. What caught my eye was Mike's attention to detail! His perfectionism during a fundamentals class, in addition to his explanation of body mechanics, body alignment, posture, turn out, hip rotation etc. He saw his students as individual dancers! During group class The combos were broken down for the leads as well as the follows! The spoke about tension, connection.... where is the lead taking you you and how to follow the lead properly. The emphasis and importance of a follow keeping her frame. Finally, my search was over! An affordable studio that upheld quality and professionalism starting with the owner and transcending throughout all the instructors. I have met great people and amazing dancers at all levels. Such great vibes here that my 13 and 15 yr old started taking classes drawn in by Kike's cumbia class, branching out to Geraldo's bachata shines class... and now venturing into salsa. My daughter is super excited to try Amelia's Salsa on2 heals class, which I love! Thank you RF Dance and instructor's I could not have found a better studio to grow as a dancer, while sharing my love of dance with my children.
