When work started, they put up plastic to isolate the problem room and cover furniture that couldn't be moved, took out all effected materials, and Daniel's guys even went to source some floor boards they had to remove due to damage which was something we were having a hard time doing ourselves. It was so appreciated on our part because he went out of his way. Real stand up guy! They patched everything up and it looks good as new and no moldy smell even a month later! When we first got a quote we balked at the price... everything is so expensive now and we weren't sure what to do, but it had to be repaired... so it was worth the price to have the convenience of the team who took out our walls and floors and such to be the ones who put it back. So overall, it made sense to go with Daniel and is team just for the consistency of the care. And they did a great job on both ends!

They didn't provide a clear order of services and multiple people seemed to be coordinating the clean up but all insufficiently. We had to repeated call the office to get updates and know when people were coming into the house. The cleaning crew did a good job on the attic insulation and vent cleaning. But we had to call the powers washers back because they missed a few spots outside. They had the main interior cleaners come before all the other work was done so we had to ask them to reclean the house (we found a lot of dirt and footprints in the house). There was mismanagement of the workers by the company. Our main agent couldn't make it and the replacement they sent to pick up our check straight up lied and ghosted us. All in all, the job was complete and they were open to redoing work when it wasn't done. So we appreciated that.

Upon further investigation, I also discovered from looking underneath my bathroom that the subfloor was completely wet. The diagnosis was that I had a faulty toilet wax ring that had been leaking, for years apparently. Trying to figure out next steps, I wondered whether I would have to demo my bathroom floor tiles and then replace my subfloor. Luckily, a plumber I trust very much recommended I call One of a Kind Restoration first before I started taking a sledgehammer to my bathroom. Stefan, their wonderful supervisor, came to assess my situation. And boy, was I glad to meet him because instead of tearing out my bathroom floor, he recommended their company's procedure of "drying out" the bathroom by attacking the issue from inside and underneath. That did the trick! I didn't have to tear out my tiles and I didn't have to replace the subfloor. Stefan had an amazing crew. Their work was extremely clean and thorough. They were so careful with the removal of the affected areas. No tiles were damaged in the process. Throughout the entire procedure, which took a couple of weeks, Ethan, their equally wonderful project manager, checked in with regularity. And everybody was so communicative. I'm so glad I was introduced to One of a Kind Restoration. I don't wish water damage on anybody and their homes. I made the mistake of going with this company, recommended by my plumber so I thought they would be good, instead of using someone contracted with my insurance. Initially I was pleased, as the owner of the company took time out of his weekend to help me file the insurance claim over the phone. However, from that point, I was mostly dissatisfied with this company's work and business practices. First, their workers attempted to remove the desk in my mom's bedroom that is literally built into the wall because they claimed they needed to put fans behind it. While I understand that they detected moisture around the desk, I was not happy with the fact that their workers started removing all of the items from the desk and trying to detach it without discussing with me first. I had to tell the owner on the phone to leave the desk alone. Second, they ended up putting too many fans and tripping my circuit breakers several times. A minor complaint, but seems they should have known that beforehand. Finally, and most egregiously, they kept (and still have not returned) my $1k deposit even after getting paid by my insurance company. Every other contractor I've dealt with has rolled the deposit into the final bill, and since the final bill was paid by insurance, I would have expected One of a Kind to return my deposit but they never did, even after I sent multiple emails requesting it back. Overall, while One of a Kind is initially responsive and helpful, their actual work is subpar, and their billing practices are shady in my opinion. If you have a leak situation like the one I did, I would just go through your insurance. Wish I had done that instead of being out $1k for something that should have been entirely covered by insurance.

It was also discovered that our home (built in the early '70s) had lead and asbestos present as well. Tommy and his team did an excellent job with the lead and asbestos abatement and mold remediation. I was concerned about the potential spreading of lead dust during the deconstruction, as well as mold contamination spreading. However, Tommy and his crew were very professional and sealed off the bathrooms top to bottom with plastic, to ensure that no hazardous material got spread. Their work was quick and thorough. After all the contaminated drywall was removed, they left the bathrooms sealed off and left a fan running to ensure that the mold was completely removed. After the work was finished, the rooms were tested for airborne mold microbes, which passed on the first test. Pure Restoration has been highly communicative, and answered all my questions.
