After the events of the past two weeks, I need to reiterate the how great this practice is. We had two sphynx cats, one was almost 18 and the other was almost 17. Please note, I am using the past tense...... My almost 18 year old became very sick and we brought her to see Dr. Goldberg who said she more than likely had liver cancer and was dying. We took our beloved cat home for one more night and put her to sleep the following day. 12 days later our almost 17 year old cat became very ill, Dr. Moore said she was more than likely going into heart failure and wouldn't survive the day. We came back to the vet immediately (with COVID precautions we had to drop the cat off) and we ended her suffering. Dr. Moore was extremely knowledgeable and compassionate. She comforted us through an awful situation and expressed urgency at the same time. For both of our visits, the staff and the doctors were extremely compassionate and let me hold both my cats as they passed. I also very much appreciate when they acknowledge when something is outside their wheelhouse. At the end of last year, my almost 17 year old cat had a massive stroke. When I tearfully described her symptoms to Dr. Goldberg she advised that we take her to the Animal Medical Center because this was extremely serious. Thankfully, our cat survived. When she had a complication after her treatment at the Animal Medical Center, I had a tele-visit with Dr. Goldberg and she told us exactly what to do. Unfortunately this cat ended up dying of a broken heart when her partner passed several months later. When we are ready to let two new kitties into our lives, we will be bringing them to Upper East Side Veterinary! read more

AVOID this VET if you LOVE your PET! We have been loyal clients for 8 years and ever since they moved to this new "fancier" more expensive office recently - not only did our original Vet leave- but their service went down, attitude levels went high and this place has started to become run like a corporation. All they care about is MONEY (first and foremost) and your pet is secondary. This vet and the people are nice to you only if you have good things to say. If you are slightly UN-satisfied with any of their services- they turn their back on you and become extremely nasty. There are too many examples of how they have treated us and our dog in a rude and nasty manner (including from some of our friends who have also experienced the same) - but one recent incident that was truly UN-HEARD of in any professionally run establishment is when we took our old senior dog to get a follow through check up and she started feeling worse after the visit. We called 2 days later to ask for our records and the notes that the vet took for what she did to our senior dog. The secretary said that she needed to "get permission and sign off" from the vet in order to release the record of what was done to our dog. After an entire day of waiting- we called them back to say- what is taking the entire day to retrieve our dogs medical records? it turns out DR MORAZO had not even written down what she did to our dog in the notes and had to be chased down after working hours just to get an answer! On top of this- instead of providing us with our dogs medical records right away and giving us an HONEST answer about the treatment they gave to our dog behind closed doors- the secretary girl started raising her voice at us and said we should go to another vet if we are not happy with them. We told the owner DR GOLDBERG about what had happened and instead of calling us and being sensitive to our urgent senior dogs needs- she kicked us out over an email! I attach the email as evidence. Our dog was in critical condition in her old state and despite that these people had 0 heart to call us and give our records and truthful information in a quick manner before taking her to the hospital. They didn't even care to call back! Never MET SUCH COLD BLOODED PEOPLE. We will NEVER go back to this establishment again and if you love your pet dont go here! You will soon see that all they care is about Money and have poor quality customer service. On top of that Im started to get a feeling that this establishment needs to be reported - especially since a) our dog left more sick then she came in b)they wont release your records right away unless its pre-reviewed by the vet when it should be everyone's right to own their records at any point in time! read more

I called in, and they insisted I make an appointment because he had too fast to be under for the x-ray. The following day, at the appointment, Dr. Talia Goldberg told me she couldn't attend to my pet because three emergencies just walked in. After a condescending speech, she finally took my pet back for the imaging. I paid $750.00 for the x-ray results, and they didn't send them in for analysis. Be prepared to pay $5.15 for every needle they use; they call it a disposal fee, Five dollars each. And now the final straw: they are holding my 16-year-old dog's seizure medicine hostage until I go in for another appointment for blood work after only nine months. read more

So far, so good. I have visited this clinic several times with my two cats, and I have been very impressed. The facility is clean, updated, and had a lovely large waiting area, which I really appreciate. It's nice to be able to find a spot away from large leashed dogs, which scare my cats. The receptionists are always polite, too, creating a pleasant atmosphere in the lobby. My older cat sees Dr. Nunemacher, who did a great job of treating a persistent eye issue. She followed-up the next day after each visit to see how my cat was responding to his medication, something that stood out to me. My younger cat sees Dr.Goldberg, and she is also wonderful. Kind and patient--I never got the sense that she was in a rush, as I did at another vet office that he had gone to previously. Most importantly, both vets I've seen know their stuff. I made an appointment for my younger cat here after being extremely displeased with another vet office in the area, where he was given a vaccine he had already received. That vet had sent me a reminder to get him that vaccine yet again, which I had included in his notes when I made the appointment at UES Veterinary Center. Dr. Goldberg immediately caught that he wasn't due for that shot until late summer. We started taking our dog to Upper East Veterinary soon after the clinic opened in their first location. Our dog had had major surgery and pretty significant GI issues, so we were hesitant to leave the big vet hospital and go to a "regular vet". After a few visits with Dr. Goldberg, Dr. Nunemacher, and the other vets in the practice, we were convinced that this was the vet practice for us. We found the vets thorough, professional compassionate/caring, knowledgeable/experienced, and honest. The staff are also a pleasure to deal with and kind - like the time they helped me get cleaned up when our dog pooped all over me in 6-degree-Fahrenheit weather. Dr. Goldberg got us through years of dealing with our dog's numerous issues, and with various changes and flare-ups as he got older and more frail. We continued being happy clients of the practice until this past weekend. At almost 18 years old, his quality of life had declined, and Dr. Goldberg and Dr. Nunemacher helped us make the decision about the right time to end his suffering, and gave us the courage to come to terms with it. Dr. Goldberg offered to come to our home and euthanize our dog. It was such a blessing to be able to have our dog be able to pass peacefully at home. Apart from the annual visit, at nearly $300 a pop and the barrage of vaccinations they try to sell me on each time, their immediate response to a genuine non annual visit is to direct clients to Blue Pearl. They are not a full sevice vet unless you schedule at least a week in advance. What reason does one have to maintain this vet relationship if EVERY time the dog needs genuine help they are directed to a proper full sevice vet center? Recently went for the first time and here's what to expect: It's PRICEY!!! Like omg so pricey. The first visit was around $180 (2 shots and appointment) and the second appointment was $310 (blood work and appointment ). Total almost $500 for a yearly checkup. Making an appointment was easy and standard. They call you the day before to confirm and have a policy where if you're more than 15 minutes late you forfeit your visit. Pretty standard. We have a mature cat who is very fussy. She doesn't like new people, being out on a busy street, or going for a check up. The first time we went she meowed and hissed the whole time. Everyone was patient with her and got it. She's a cat. Not much we can do. The first visit she was too worked up so they were only able to give her two booster shots. No actual check up because was too angry. They gave us cat "xanax", some tips on food, and sent us on our way. We had to go back for the actual check up (heartbeat, teeth, etc.) and blood work. We gave her the Xanax and off she went. It worked to calm her down and she got the rest of the checkup. The really nice perks of this place: location is convenient, inside is nicer than most doctors office, and the staff was wonderful. We felt like the vet techs and vet really listened to us and provided good tips. After our first appointment they followed up with a phone call to make sure our cat was feeling better after her visit and even sent a card by mail to welcome us to the family. It's the little things! So why only four stars? It's PRICEY!!! Remember the $500 I mentioned at the start? And she has a tooth problem and that appointment starts at $700. There's a human society we will probably go to for dental work instead because wow so pricey! If you can afford it definitely go. We'll probably go again because they were so nice an attentive but we'll now be aware of the cost. read more

Absolutely adore this practice! We adopted two kittens from the ASPCA a year ago. One of them started developing a skin condition that had us scrambling all over the place (first to ASPCA vet, then another vet in the neighborhood). Thankfully, UES Vet is only a few blocks away from my apartment so my cats need only endure a jostling 10-minute walk. This is honestly one of the best if not the best Veterinary place I've ever gone to. I am so happy!!! Dr. Mohr is amazing. She is so kind, friendly, caring and knowledgeable. I took my cat here because he's been having allergies and she recommended a range of different options, some of which including ointment for his ears and hypoallergenic food. She's also followed up with me a few times after his appointment and so has the office. Moving to New York City with my anxious, antisocial senior dog was very daunting to say the least but finding this vets office has been just wonderful. Firstly it's a block from my home/work so the convenience is perfect. The reception staff are just so welcoming, patient and understanding which is lovely when you arrive with a stressed out dog! And finally the doctors..i have even recommended these ladies to my boss as i was so happy to have Simba in their expert care. All the doctors and staff are great but there's something about Dr. Nunemacher that makes her a favorite for my cat. She also always follows up with a call about results and sends an email if she doesn't reach you. She also remembers your fur baby - after mine had to be taken to the animal hospital (which they recognized right away and set up everything so all i had to do was show up and give them the name- such a huge help during such a stressful time!) - they were so nice and followed up to see how my cat was doing. When my cat was stable enough to see a regular vet again, Dr. Nunemacher made sure to follow up with the doctors at the animal hospital to get a direct update and double check that the new medications she was going to prescribe were cleared with the specialists. They will also be sensitive to your financial situation - they're not cheap but it's a very nice practice but I would say they are very fairly priced (highly competitive relative to other practices in Manhattan) - and they don't try to sell you on extra things like I've experienced with other places. I've been to about a dozen other practices in Manhattan before I found this place and I can attest that it is way better in terms of service and expertise, so you definitely get great value for what you pay for. Overall, really incredible vet practice - highly recommend. Tip: they can get very busy so definitely schedule in advance, especially to see Dr. Nunemacher (I've noticed that they do their best to fit you in for emergencies, however). read more

Not handling Covid well. Very sterile. I and my dog were treated as if we had Covid for sure and there is no semblance of warmth or service with the staff at this place. Shut down for a month and come up with a plan. Sitting on the street in 95 degree heat is unacceptable. Really disappointed. The folks at the front desk can't be bothered. They're not welcoming or particularly concerned about customer service even at the most basic level. The appointment was confused because our dog was getting shots which apparently means we can't even speak to a vet. When I said I had a question, I was told that would I would have to pay $97 and make a new appointment. Well, while that seems absolutely ridiculous; it would probably a good idea to say something about this sort of thing at the time of booking an appointment so that people are aware ahead of time. I have to say that the person who gave the shot was excellent. While not a vet, he was clearly a caring and compassionate guy. After my appointment I was further annoyed because after the tech give me back my dog and told me I could pay at the front desk. I walked up to the front desk and both people completely ignored me for an uncomfortable amount of time. Without being acknowledged, I asked if they needed more time and they said yes, so I sat down. A moment later they called me and as I pull myself together they called me again irritated that it took me a moment to get myself together. My dog is healthy. He just had a check up a few months ago. I came here for nothing more than a heart-worm script. Indicated he has always been on heart worm and would simply like the script as I have absolutely NO worry that he could possibly have them. BUT I was told that due to "legal concerns" he had to have a test and exam before the script could be filled. Was told that if he had heart worms and took the meds major life-ending events could occur. (Yet... I was given the script before the test results came back... hmmm, what's up with that?) I appreciate Vets who care, but it's clear to me that having to get a "check up" for a perfectly healthy pet just to have a script for heart worm medication is a bit of a way to generate profits. Bottom line: what should have cost $120 (meds and lab test) wound up with an "annual exam" and a total bill of almost $220. Since you treated us with more concern for profit that compassion, you get the two stars... The assistants were quite polite and nice, but just tired of being put through the $$ mill... read more

I would like to be complimentary but my one experience there assured that I will never return. The doctor I wanted was out so I saw the someone else who managed to insult me and make me out to be an inconsiderate and uninformed dog owner. That was a mistake and poor judgment on her part. Worse still, the vet missed an infection although my bill was over $200 for checking out bad breath in my four-year-old dog. I took her to Animal General on the West Side, where she was correctly diagnosed in minutes and where we were treated beautifully. Lesson: Don't bite the hand that feeds you. I have been a lowal customer for my very healthy Pomeranian dog for many years that is until today. a few weeks ago I get a call from them informing me that I had a balance for blood work that I had not done. then I asked them to send me an estimate to do a dental cleaning for my dog as she has some tartar and I get an e-mail back with an estimate of $1100. The vets are great, but the front desk staff is: 1. Rude. Have a question? Get ready for an eye roll. Have a question about a bunch of unexplained charges on your bill? Get ready for a ton of attitude and exasperation. 2. Uncommunicative and careless. They offered to refill my girl's flea prescription for me. I said "sure!". They went ahead and filled a prescription for a flea medicine that wasn't what my girl gets (they send prescriptions to Chewy every 6 months, why would the front desk staff fill something different for her?). They also quoted me a price and it ended up costing twice as much, and they were confused at why I didn't want to pay 2x what they had quoted me. It was like $60 more. 3. Sneaky... They'll slip in a ton of extra charges. I feel like every time I go in there are at least 2 charges on my bill that I didn't recognize, didn't ask for, and wasn't told to expect. Feels like I'm at Jiffy Lube where they tell me to flush my power steering fluid every 3 months. Except here they just do it without asking and then charge me for it. read more

Recently, one of my wonderful, dear, sweet, lovely kitties suffered a quick decline, and we made the agonizing decision to put him down three days ago so that he could avoid pain and suffering. (I won't include all the details just now, but I'll mention that his illness was pancreatic cancer. If anyone would like the full story or thinks it would be helpful for me to include the full story publicly, please send me a message and I'll consider posting an update.) When we first took our kitty to Upper East Vet after noticing that something might be going wrong, Dr. Keefe did some tests and recognized that we needed to bring him to a specialist; she recommended Blue Pearl, where experts did a great job diagnosing our boy. Even though the news was grim, we did want to know what was happening with him so that we could make informed decisions and not just hope we were doing the right thing and possibly regret our choices later. I'll skip over some of the interim details for now, but suffice it to say, Drs. Keefe, Nunemacher, and Goldberg all contributed to our kitty's treatment over the ensuing week, as we tried a couple last palliative options. I will never regret how we handled his illness or his passing, and I will always be grateful to Drs. Goldberg, Keefe, and Nunemacher at Upper East Vet for providing us with compassion, detailed advice, and patience. I also just received a condolence card in the mail from Upper East Vet, and I'll be picking up a clay paw print that Dr. Goldberg made right after my boy passed. I've been using this vet office since I got my dog over a year ago. Dr. Goldberg is super friendly and knowledgable. Dr. Neumacher did my dogs spay surgery and she is great too! Their prices are reasonable, especially for being in the city. My mom pays higher vet prices up in Westchester. The office is always clean. The staff is helpful and friendly. We had to call them once for an emergency and we were able to speak to a tech right away. It's always easy to get an appointment and They have weekend hours which is a plus! read more

This is my first Yelp review! I recently started using Upper East Veterinary and couldn't be more satisfied. I have 4 dogs and 2 cats. Over a couple of weeks I brought all for yearly check ups. I have been seeing Dr. Talia Goldberg and I couldn't be happier. She is kind, gentle and very thorough. The staff is friendly and welcoming. The facility is relatively new and sparkling clean. It had been a while since our dog, Coco, had a regular checkup (I know, that's bad). I was expecting chastisement, but never received any. Everyone was very friendly, helpful and understanding. My brother and I brought Coco in for our scheduled appointment on a Saturday afternoon. We rang the doorbell to be buzzed in and we were the only people there. We filled out a form for Coco's first visit and waited. The place is VERY clean and professional-looking (I didn't know why I was expecting otherwise). You can check out their office photos on their website. After filling out the forms, we waited a few minutes and were promptly called for Coco's checkup. We were escorted into the exam room. The nurse asked a few more questions about Coco and took a photo of her for their records. She also mentioned how next visit, they can display her photo in the digital photo frame in the waiting room, which I thought was a nice, cute touch. Our vet was Dr. Goldberg. She came in promptly after all of Coco's information was taken. She is super friendly and helpful and informative. She did a quick inspection and was very gentle with Coco. Coco was a little bit afraid in the beginning and being in new unfamiliar surrounding, but Dr. Goldberg was so gentle and welcoming that Coco felt comfortable enough to eat a couple of treats and warm up to the vet and her surroundings. Dr. Goldberg then gave us a brief overview of the vaccinations she'd be receiving and gave us helpful information on spaying, which we had requested. Not only that, she told us about more inexpensive spay options (from neuter/spay trucks in the area) in case that was of interest. Coco seemed to have a slight ear infection, so swabs were taken for examination. Then, Coco was taken into the back room area for the vaccinations and a quick inspection of her ear swabs and we were told to wait in the waiting room so that Coco wouldn't associate the shots with us. When Coco came back out, she seemed no worse for the wear and in good spirits. I gave her another treat from the jar in the waiting room. I had been afraid of how the vet visit would be for her, because Coco is very timid and gets nervous in new settings. However, she was very good and I know that the warm staff had to do with that. We received some drops for her ears and a sample collection cup for a stool sample (can be dropped off the next day, even if vet is closed) and we paid and that was our visit to Upper East Veterinary Center. We also received prompt results back when dropping off her stool sample the next day about testing negative for heartworm (phew) and another call about her good stool sample results. They also have an online website service to view Coco's medical history and results as well. Coco had a VERY pleasant experience here and I highly recommend Dr. Goldberg and Upper East Veterinary Center if you live in the area. I couldn't imagine a friendlier staff and great, clean facilities. read more
