I recently had service done at Marlboro Tire and Automotive twice. My first experience was good…read more During the last week of April they replaced the starter on my 2021 Kia Telluride, and everything seemed fine at the time. However, when I picked the vehicle up, I noticed an issue with my parking sensor that had never happened prior to the service. I made another appointment to have that checked out along with several other issues I already knew needed attention -- a wheel bearing, a check engine light, and a transmission issue. I dropped the car off on Sunday, May 17th. They called me Monday and explained that the parking sensor issue was unrelated to the starter replacement, which I accepted. They also said the transmission issue would need to be handled by the dealership. The check engine light turned out to be caused by the evap vent valve being disconnected from the evap canister, and they reconnected it. Total cost was $160. I stopped by a little after 3 PM to pay and pick up the keys, but told them I would return later that evening to actually take the vehicle home. When I came back at 9:55 PM, the first thing I noticed was that the vehicle was unlocked because the mirrors were folded out. On my Telluride, the mirrors automatically fold in when the car is locked. When I opened the door, the dashboard was lit up and the radio was on. Once I sat down, I realized the vehicle was actually still running. My car's drive information automatically resets if the vehicle has been off for four hours. The dash showed the vehicle had been running for 9 hours and 30 minutes, had been driven 16.7 miles, and was averaging 4.5 MPG. I took a picture at 9:58 PM. Honestly, I wasn't even angry at first -- I was more shocked than anything and was actually laughing about it when I told my wife. Mistakes happen. The problem came the next morning when I returned to let them know what happened and showed them the picture. Instead of acknowledging the mistake, they immediately denied it and insisted there must have been some kind of malfunction because they "could not have made that mistake." I initially spoke with the two women behind the counter, but then a man came out from the office and asked what I wanted. I told him I felt they should at least refund the $160 service charge or compensate me for the gas burned while my car sat idling all day. He refused both. We went back and forth for several minutes. I explained that up until that moment I had actually been happy with their service and thought I had found a repair shop I could continue using. I told him the issue wasn't the mistake itself -- it was the refusal to take responsibility for it. I also explained that if he had simply apologized and made some effort to make it right, I probably would have laughed about it later and continued bringing my vehicle there. Instead, I was treated as if I was making the whole thing up despite having photographic evidence. When I told him that my only remaining option was to leave an honest review online about my experience, he accused me of threatening him. I told him it wasn't a threat -- I simply intended to describe exactly what happened. To make matters even more frustrating, when I later attempted to leave a review on their website, I was required to enter my invoice number, last name, first name, invoice total, and service date to verify my visit. After entering all of the correct information directly from my invoice, I received an error message saying the information did not match their system records. I can't say for certain what caused that, but it certainly gave the impression that I was being prevented from leaving a review through their website. Again, mistakes happen. What matters is how a business responds when they do. Unfortunately, their response completely changed my opinion of this shop.

Great service and quality at Marlboro Tire and Automotive!…read more I needed to get my tires repaired/replaced and found this that this shop was just a few minutes from my house. It was after hours, so I filled out an online drop off form and left my car and key outside the facility. Really convenient to be able to drop the car off during non business hours so that service can begin bright and early the next day. The next day, the staff called me with more information about my issue and a recommended set of repairs. I appreciate the honest advice and information that Christine provided, she helped me make a couple of decisions about the work to be completed to the car. The shop was able to order the parts I needed and install them within 2 days - appreciate the pretty quick service. The prices are fair and the staff was really friendly and helpful - would definitely bring my car here again for a service if needed. No wonder they've been in business for 30+ years.

I brought my truck to Dad's Garage in Owings for three relatively straightforward items:…read more * TPMS sensor programming * Tire balancing * Diagnosing an emergency brake-related clunking noise under load I had an 8:00 AM appointment scheduled well in advance, yet after TWO full days, the truck sat untouched until around 2:00 PM on the second day. This was a job that realistically should have taken a couple of hours. The TPMS issue was never resolved. Initially, I was told the sensors had been programmed correctly and that the warning lights were caused by incorrect tire pressure -- one of the most ignorant explanations I've ever heard from a mechanic. The reality was simple: the inner rear TPMS sensors were never programmed at all, which was the entire reason the truck was brought in. They eventually admitted that after the fact. Next was the wheel balancing. My truck has custom powder-coated wheels. Instead of using stick-on weights like the factory setup already had, they installed hammer-on steel weights on the OUTER edge of the rims, damaging the powder coating in the process. Any competent shop should have immediately recognized the proper balancing method after removing the existing stick-on weights. As for the emergency brake concern, they never properly diagnosed it. I specifically brought the truck in for a loud noise under load -- not the normal sound of the electronic parking brake actuator engaging. They dismissed the issue without ever meaningfully reproducing or testing the concern. To top it all off, they broke a wheel stud using an impact gun on the lug nuts rather than properly torquing them as a qualified mechanic should. Because of the excessive use of the impact gun, I now have concerns about stretching or cracking of the remaining wheel studs and will likely be replacing all of them as a precautionary safety measure. Between the damaged powder coating on the wheels and the wheel stud issue, I am now facing well over $1,000 in damages to either have the wheels professionally re-powder coated or replaced, along with replacing the studs they improperly handled. What made the experience even worse was my conversation with Mike, the owner. From the beginning of the call, he was defensive and adamant that everything had been performed correctly -- until several of those claims were proven untrue. Once confronted with the facts, the conversation quickly became unprofessional, including yelling on the phone rather than attempting to resolve the situation appropriately. Two days wasted, damage to my wheels, unresolved issues, poor communication, and additional damage caused while the vehicle was in their possession. This experience was frustrating from start to finish. Steer clear of Dad's Garage unless you want your vehicle returned with more issues than it had when you dropped it off.

At the last minute, the price was changed, which was already disappointing. Even worse, my vehicle was returned to me with damage that was not there before I brought it in. When I called to address the issue, the owner, Henry, was extremely dismissive and unhelpful. Instead of trying to resolve the situation, he told me my only alternative was to call the police. He refused to exchange insurance information and would not allow me to review any camera footage from the time my car was in the shop. Overall, the lack of accountability and professionalism is unacceptable. Use at your own risk I would not recommend this shop.

I had to take the owner to court due to his mishap on a car I brought in. I thought it would be easy and done with since he messed up on the car. But I was sadly mistaken he didn't even bother to show up to court which obviously lead me to win. Here I am STILL waiting for payment on a case that was decided in JULY of this year. I will be taking a lien against the business to get payment. The shop is messy and poorly run by him and one other employee who is as equally unprofessional as he is. Maybe if you focused more on your business and paid attention to your customers INSTEAD of your friends and the women that hang all over you at the shop, you MIGHT be able to focus on the most important things of running a business. If this is how you run a "professional" business I couldn't imagine what your personal life looks like....

Richard is the guy that owns the business, he has no knowledge at all of auto mechanics. I took my vehicle back because he kept lying to me about ordering a proportional valve for my brakes. It was never ordered nor did it ever come in, each day that I called him. He will not answer your phone call and he is not there for questions most of the time. He agrees to what you say, but the customer service is very lacking. This is a warning for anyone to who doesn't want to have to go go go to court regarding their vehicles later. His work ethic and customer service get a F Grade. If you need an auto repair, take it to the dealership, you get what you pay for. Richard has one mechanic on duty, I don't know if he is a certified mechanic or not. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE.
